Thanks! I actually tried them out today! I did W3D1. What a difference good shoes make... I hope that you get some too.. You will love them!

Hmmm... I might have to get shoes sooner than I thought. My sneakers I'm wearing to run are more than one year old !

Week 1 is in the bag and I realized that the first day I had been letting my dog set the pace, which was TOO FAST for me. So I 've been making her slow down and boy is everything easier  I have one part of me that hurts when running. The back of my leg between my calf and my ankle gets sooo tight that I stop once or twice to stretch it out during a walking segment.

I'm starting Week 2 after work and am really excited to get out there.

Get the Shoes Bif. I am so glad. I did Wk3 D2 today and was great! I am wondering if it is ok to do this almost everyday. I love this training. I just don't want to over do it.....
    Have Fun!

Week 2 day 1 was completed last night. And it was great and I'm actually looking forward to running tomorrow. This is sooooo unlike me!

Jenyfur1 - (love the name - and I see furry things in your ticker - what kind of dog do those feet belong to?) I think I'll go this weekend looking for shoes. Thanks for the advice and push :flowerforyou:

I still haven't done my W3 D2 run. I was thinking to do it today, but it's still -13 degrees out (8.6 F) and I refuse to run in it!! It's getting up to 5 (41 F) again in a couple days, so I will run then, and give my ankle a little more time to feel better.

Good luck!! :drinker: That's kind of funny that the dog was making you really run!

If you are running PERFECTLY with good form and you aren't feeling any pain, then I think everyday would be fine. Still, I've always heard that you shouldn't stick to just one form of exercise like that. Especially running, because it is a higher risk for injury. I personally wouldn't push it more that 3-4 days per week.
  • Started on a new project at work, so haven't been on. Even though I was tired after work, I managed to do w2d3 on Tuesday and it seemed to help with the stress of work!! Then last night I did W3D1. I've noticed since starting on Week 2 my legs hurt from right above my ankles in the front to mid-way up my calves, even though I stretch before and after. Does anyone have any specific stretches for that area? Could this be just because I've started back on the C25K program? It does not bother me when I am not on the treadmill though, so that is a good thing.

I've historically had problems with my shins, too. I'm just about to start week 6, and after each run, I have some tenderness right where you describe. however, it goes away in a day... so it's not still sore as I'm getting ready for my next run on the program.

My understanding is that a number of things happen in the process of strengthening your lower legs, so that you don't get hurt. Your muscles improve, and that takes care of some of the problem. But, your bones strengthen, too -- and supposedly, that takes a little while! So, hang in there, and stay confident -- your body is already starting the process of getting stronger from your workouts, and it should be able to handle this, too!

    Good luck!!!

Thanks Bif! The feet belong to my, recently passed Great Dane, Lillian , her sister, Fiona is clomplng her on her tail while she is trying to eat her dinner..

I ran W3D3 today and was really good. I ran for a few more minutes after the walk before the cool down because I felt really good and then cooled down... Week 6 looks scarey! Oh My... I hope I am ready for the long runs by then.
I hope you get your shoes Bif.
Steph, I can't blame you. Is there a Y or something like that you can pay for one day or a 2 week pass so that you can use a treadmill??

Jenyfur... I wouldn't pay for another gym pass. That turned out badly last time, and I'm not into public exercise. Besides, I have a treadmill, but it's in storage. The guy downstairs kept banging on the ceiling when I would run, because it's so clunky. I'll be find waiting a couple more days for the nice weather.

WOW! Wk 4 D 1.. It was a little harder than I thought it would be. I feel like I have accomplished something. I was just going to sit on the couch feeling sorry for myself that I went over my calories and pout... Then I thought I would just walk... So while walking, I thought, Hmmm , you are here so you can just do this... WOW! I am glad that I did... I feel much better now.... No more pouting.... I am no longer stuffed and over my calories!

Jeny - so sorry to hear about Lillian. As an absolute dog lover, I feel for you.
On a happier note - way to go on Week 4 ! I can only imagine how much better you felt, rather than staying on the couch...

I was supposed to run another "week2" yesterday but life got in the way. Got out late from work, had to hit the grocery store b/c I forgot one thing needed for dinner, made dinner and by then was absolutely wiped out. Went to bed realllly early. Hoping to get out running as soon as I get home from work tonight.

Steph - doesn't Canada know it's SPRING ?? We're 10-15 degrees below normal here, too. Come on spring - we've got running to do!

I probably won't get any exercise and I have a function after work, so I will be whiped out too.. (I can't spell) I hope that you get to run today. I was so glad that I did it yesterday....
It was 8 and my husband was watching something stupid on TV and crunching Ice, so I thought I would just walk a little... Then... Whudya know!

Just finished my first week!! Start on W2D1 on Thursday! It's been great! Day 2 was the worst. My chest hurt and I really had to push myself. Day 3 was a little difficult too but my chest didn't hurt anymore and i was so happy about it! I HATE running and would never have guessed that I would enjoy this program but I'm honestly excited about starting Week 2!

    YAY!

Hahaha ... Love it - the annoying husband work-out push. Sounds like something that might happen at my house

I did get out to run yesterday. Week 2 day 2. Enjoyed myself thoroughly (what's up with that??) and went 2 extra intervals. Looking forward to tomorrow and then on to week 3!

    How's it going, everybody??

Unfortunately, I still haven't run again since last Tuesday. My ankle is totally better, but I'm scared to hurt it again. It's also still unreasonable chilly outside. I don't wanna sound like I'm making excuses, but I know I am. I need to get back with it!!! I was thinking to fall back to W2 and continue with that (indefinitely), cause I'm not even sure I'll finish this anymore.

I am NOT a good runner. Like I said to Bif once: running is like math to me. I love it, but I can't do it well. I don't wanna keep pushing on week to week if it's just gonna keep hurting. I've never run outdoors before now, let alone for more than 1.5 mins at a time (on the treadmill). So, either I go back to W2, or I stick to W3, and keep going with it until (if ever) I feel like I can move to W4... :embarassed: PLEASE GIVE ME SOME HOPE!!

(I've clearly had too much down time to think about all this...)

    It clearly does NOT!! :grumble:

lisa_ace... You're making GREAT improvements! I love seeing how my body adjusts to the running, and pushing myself harder.

    Hey Steph!
Don't fret! You are always doing some kind of exercise. Take it slow and do what you can do.... We are here for you.... You are amazing!
    :drinker: :flowerforyou:
  • Larry thanks for the advice and peptalk. Tonight I just did W3D3 and it felt pretty good. I did get my orthotics on Tuesday and have been breaking them in, so don't know if that made a difference, but whatever it is - I'll take it. Looking forward to starting Week 4 over the week-end!

Thanks! I AM always doing something, but I wanna feel like I'm making progress on something.
  • I am on W4D1 today and dreading it..... really considering doing W3 again, just for reinforcement, but then I think to myself, grow some balls and get on with it... I can always keep on with W4 ..... keep looking forward..... perhaps if I repeat it enough, I will start believing it!!!

Just try it. If it's too much, you can always go back and do it again the next scheduled day!

I ran W3 D2 today. I didn't manage to finish the 3 min runs either time - most likely cause I've taken a nearly 2 week break. My ankles hurt now, but not that bad... I'm gonna ice them...

    carolah... Definitely! Keep on going!!
  • Just couldn't wait to tell you that I finished week 4 day 1! I kind of didn't want to, but my daughter went with me and did it beside me! My shins kind of hurt at the end tho. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

That's great to hear! Almost gives me a little consolation when thinking about W4...

Just finished Day one of week 5. Not bad at all. I ran 7 minutes the last stint and took a longer walk. I know the next day (Wed) will be 8 minutes. I can do this!!!!
I really like running now. it really helps the stress level...
    How are you doing Steph??
