Jenyfur... I'm just getting back into it after some time off. I'm gonna stick with W3 until I feel like I can move on. At LEAST 3 more runs, probably 20+ more runs. :laugh:0
-
You do it on your own terms!! Let me know if you need motivation.. You help me so much!0
-
Tomorrow I start day 1 of week 4. I can't wait!0
-
Hey, completed two of my W4 runs... what was I worried about?.... I can not believe my increased stamina.... the second 5 minute run was slightly harder, but considering way back during W1 we found that difficult and now we are running for 5 minutes... I just can't stop smiling!
One more W4 and onto the major W5, now that is going to be more difficult... surely? 8 whole minute of running :-o
Soooooo glad I run with a friend who is not on here... she doesn't want to fall behind me and I certainly don't want to fall behind her..... just the sort of running pal you need... keeps those feets plodding!!!0 -
Ran W3D1 on Sunday. Can't believe how much I enjoy getting out and doing this!
It sounds like everyone is steadily moving forward - way to go! It's amazing how fast our bodies can strengthen, isn't it?
Jenyfur - Lillian was beautiful. I'm sure you miss her every day. I've always thought I would love to have a great dane. No little dogs for me!
Keep on running everybody!0 -

jmdoane... Have a great run!
carolah... That's great that you have a buddy that's about at the same level as you! It's great to hear you are moving along nicely!
Good run Bif! :happy:0 -
Great job everyone!
Bif, If you ever have a chance to get a Dane, Do it... They are the best couch potatos in the world. Good job on your running and keep it up... I can't believe that I like it too.
Carolah- Week 5 is not too bad. I was a little scared at first, but it is ok.
JM- Week four is good, I wanted to run a little extra during this week so I did. Keep it up!!!
Happy running and I will post Wed evening on W5D2.... 8 min runs.....0 -
Ok. W5D2 Done... Not too bad. I actually ran the last stint for 10 minutes instead of 8. I am trying to get ready for a 5 K in May... Very relaxing for me... NEVER thought I would sat that....:)0
-
I'm taking a little break from running for the time being. :blushing: It's too "all or nothing" for me, and I on some psychological level, I think it's affecting my other workouts (I'm not getting any of them in!). Keep on running! I'll still be supporting your runs on your profile feeds. :drinker:0

I just finished week4day3 yesterday. I'm glad to have made it through, though I admit that even though I did it years before I get paranoid about running for 20 minutes straight. It seems like a large jump from everything we've ever done. To those who have finished that week, did you just go for it and plow through or did you repeat one of the other days first? Thanks - you all make all the difference in the world!0
-
W5D3 done! Christmasbow, Absolutely go for it. It wasn't bad at all. I went slow at first and then sped things up a bit. It was fine! Good Luck!0

Just wanted to say Hi, I am on week 2, and it is hard lol. I can't wait until my endurance builds up.0

I did it last week. I just went for it. I had to take a ~60 second break about half way through the jogging interval, but I'm proof that it can be done. LOL  A lot of people say, and I truly believe, that it is all mental.
I did W6D2 today. The first minute of the jogging interval was TOUGH... ugh! I didn't think I would make it. But I kept telling myself, just finish this song, then the next song...Eventually, I made it to 10 minutes. The second 10 minute interval was a challenge too, but I just kept telling myself, you can make it through this song, you can make it to the next turn, etc. Little goals along the way kept me going to reach the end.
My first 5K (EVER!!) is two weeks from today. I'm really striving to keep pushing myself through this program. I won't be finished, but I'll be close. I'm sure I'll be super-slow, but my goal is to at least run most of it.
Glad to see this thread is still going. It's great to see everyone still plugging away! :drinker: :flowerforyou:0 -
Kath - your first 5K - that's awesome!! Be sure to post and let us know how it was. My first 5K is at the end of June.
Ran W3D2 in the rain on Friday after work. I had been looking forward to getting out to run all day at work, I get home and get ready, look out side and it's RAINING. Like raining hard. I wavered for a minute, said 'screw it', grabbed a visor to keep the rain out of my face, and out I went! I actually decided I kind of liked running in the rain. So don't let the rain stop you!
Jenyfuy - I'm going to get fitted for shoes on Saturday! Yay! I am soooo excited.
Heading out today after work for my last day of week 3!
Go run everybody! :drinker:0 -
Thank you for Kath and Jenyfur for the motivation to just go for it on week5day3! Today I did week5day1 and it wasn't too bad at all. I even noticed that my heart rate isn't quite as high as it used to be in the beginning! Oh, Kath good luck on your first 5K - you will do great and absolutely love it!0
-
@ Sav - welcome! Your endurance will build - it's amazing how fast we can change!
Ran W3D3 yesterday, so tomorrow or Wednesday I start Week 4! I"m a little scared of the 5 minutes :ohwell:
How's everybody doing??0 -
I just finished Wk6 D2... I ran late and got a little bored, but that's ok... I have a 30 min run on Friday,... It will be fine, put some good tunes on and away I will go..
How is everyone doing...Bif??0 -
I haven't posted in this thread for awhile, but I'm on the last week! I was doing the workouts by time, not distance, so I was all ready for my 30 min runs, but I decided to go for it and have done two 5K jogs so far this week My time today was 35:50 - not even close to competitive, but my main focus is keeping my HR under 180! The pace I was doing originally was too much once I got to the long runs and my HR was getting close to 190.0

wow this sounds great! i'll have to look at getting involved from week one. i'm new to all this so will have a search though....0

Just did week 5 day 2 tonight and it felt good. My legs didn't bother me at all! In a way it seems easier because I am doing this on a treadmill and with shorter run times, I have to keep looking down at the timer which only seems to frustrate me that time never goes by as fast as I had been hoping. Another crazy week at work, so it's been 6 days since I ran. How much time can you let pass in between runs before I should either repeat the week or go back a week? Any thoughts?0
-
Yesterday morning I did Wk6 D3. I actully did the 5 min Warm up and then ran for 35 min and then another 5 min cool down. I did 5K+ in that time. I feel powerful and relaxed when I run....Still can't believe that I can actually say that.... Enjoy. I have my first 5K on May 7th..:)0
-
Jenyfur - that is awesome!!! I'm almost there. My friend and I went to a park with a ~1 mile trail. We did over three laps in about 30 minutes - I couldn't believe it. I only took two walking breaks. Feeling great, too!!! :drinker: First 5K on Saturday, 4/23!! I think I'm ready! :drinker:  :drinker:0
-
WOW Kath! That is great! Good luck on your 5K! Let us know how you did.:bigsmile:0
-
Anybody still here????? *echo*
I got my new shoes..... *echo*0 -
Hey Bif! Congrats on your new shoes!!! I am still here... I am going to "practice" a 5K this weekend. I will let you know hpw it goes. I am getting ready to start Week 8.. Nothing but straight running now....It relaxes me...
I will check back in tomorrow.0 -
So I did it!!! I ran with a friend of mine this morning!! I am so excited. I feel like i have accomplished something. It was the first time that I have run outside since I started the program I really liked it. It was not nearly as boring as running on the treadmill. There are 2 more weeks until I run the real race and I know that I can do it now. I am so glad for this thread...
BIF!!! Where are you??!!!0 -
I'm here Jeny!
That's so awesome you ran 5K !! :drinker: *cheers* And you ran the entire thing? Have you signed up for any 5Ks yet? I'm doing one at the end of June.
I'm in week 4 - and on my SECOND pair of shoes! The first pair were awful to run in (felt great when NOT running) so I went back to get refitted and ran with that pair and it was great!
I have one more day of week 4 and I kept thinking I wouldn't be ready to move to week 5 (8 minute run) but Wednesday when I ran one of my 5 minute runs ended up lasting for 7.5 minutes (I find I do better if I don't look at my watch, but pick a mailbox, etc. in the distance to run to, and THEN I get to check my watch. By doing this I usually run longer than I'm supposed to). I'll be glad when I can just RUN instead of starting and stopping.
Anybody else find the first few minutes of running are the worst? That's when I'm thinking to myself "okay, WHY am I doing this??" But after the first five minutes or so, things are definitely better...0 -
Hey Bif!
Glad you traded your shoes... I have signed up for a local 5k that is 2 weeks away. The start has a HUGE hill. The course is up hill the first 1/2 then down hill a little then flat the rest. I am nervous about that. Fear not abbout running week 5. It is not too bad at all. I hope that your training goes well for your upcoming 5K. I will be running again on Monday. Chat at ya later!
Oh and yes.... The first 5 min are like that for me too!
Kath,
How was your race??? Been thinking about you.....0 -
It's official! # 336 out of 644. Chip time 35:49, gun time 36:02. Pace 11:33/M. whatever that means... lol
It was a miserable morning - steady rain, 50 degrees. I had no idea how it was all going to work. The energy at the race was definitely high, despite the rain. It was a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House, so it felt great to be there for a good cause. We all lined up in the starting lines. I had no idea there was a mat that you were supposed to run over at the starting line. Fortunately, there are two 'cause I missed the first one. As I said, I had no idea what I was doing! To top off my cluelessness, I forgot to start my HRM until about 2 minutes into the race! Ahhh!!! :noway: :grumble: But I just kept running... in the rain and wind. The weather was miserable, but the energy of the other runners and organizers truly kept me going. After a while, I got into a rhythm and really didn't notice the time. Then I realized that I had run a mile, then another mile. By the time I got past mile 2, I thought, "Why walk now? You're almost done!" I jogged, albeit a slow jog, THE WHOLE THING! I have never run so far or for so long ever before!! Then came the last stretch when I could see the digital timer. It was ticking away 35:55, 35:56, 35:57. I tried to give it a final push to get under 36:00, but didn't quite make it. SO close though!!
My friend was just ahead of me the whole time. I love running with her because it keeps me at a regular pace. Her time was 35 minutes. The other thing that helped us today was the course was flat, on city streets and sidewalks. I have not tackled any hills yet!! A little scared to. But today was awesome! I've been on cloud nine ever since this morning. You really do get such a sense of accomplishment! C25K is AWESOME!! Never in a million years would I have thought I'd be running a 5K.
Bif - that's EXACTLY how I feel!!! I often wondered if I was the only one. I do the same thing as you - set distance goals, or tell myself I will check my watch at the end of this song. It definitely keeps me going! You are doing great!!0 -
Congrats Kath!!! I am sorry that the weather was bad, but now you have something to really be proud of..... I am not sure that I would have been able to run in that....0
