It's so relieving to see other women struggling with the same thing (although it doesn't make it suck any less).
Has anyone been prescribed sprinolactone to reduce excess body hair? My doc says she will most likely prescribe it to me but I haven't heard much about it. I've heard a lot about metformin and my doc mentioned that to me as well, but says she's leaning more towards spirinolactone...
My main frustration with PCOS is the really low self-esteem I have as a result of it. Of course I'm the one who decided to let it effect my self-esteem, but it's hard not to. It's really difficult for me to be comfortable getting close to someone. I'm just ashamed.
I guess I did get lucky in the acne department though. I never had it too bad, and ortho tri cyclen has cleared up my face completely.0 -
I too have PCOS! And well, like the rest of you ladies, it pisses me off! Hehe.
Though in my younger days, I conceived, I have lost 6 pregnancies, and one baby... I haven't been able to conceive at all in the last 5 years. It's very straining on my heart emotionally.
Doctors keep telling me if I just lose weight. If I just lose weight. I've already lost over 50 lbs since I've started losing weight, though I've got about 60-100 lbs more to go to be comfortable... What the hell, I've seen big women get pregnant all the time.
Why not me?0 -
Dear PCOS,
Im not sure if I can even still claim to have you since you caused me to have a hysterectomy at the ripe ol age of 32!!! I much rather would have lost the extra 70 lbs or facial hair or any of your other nasty side effects! Please let me just thank you for intoducing me to hormone therapy....what a nasty relationship we have formed!!!
That felt great!! Thanks for starting this thread : )0 -

Just be strong and remember that it is YOUR body and you have got to be proud. Treat your body like a temple and kick PCOS's *kitten*!0 -

Btw pcos I am sick and tired of the perfect rounded belly that makes me look like I'm. 9 months pregnant!
To the peraon that post symptoms that were copy and pasted please research more, pcos can also cause heart disease, endrometrial cancer, premature birth, male pattern baldness, depression, skin tags amoungst a bunch of other issues inclusing diabetes. I know I'm missing more symptoms.
Northwestern university does studies monthly on pcos, you can google pcos study and it'll pop up. Since I don't have high levels of male hormones I didn't qualify For the last study.
I hate having pcos and it has affected my life in so many ways. I'm sick of being robbed of feeling like a woman! Its been 10 months since my last tom since that's when I quit taking provera. Even with weightloss and exercise I haven't been able to get that back.but I'm rambling on now lol. I am extremely sorry to all of you that suffer from pcos, maybe one day we will see better treatment options and they'll understand it better.0 -
The only thing I worry about with having PCOS is being able to conceive when it is time. I don't blame my weight on PCOS, although I'm sure it had a part in why I gained a lot of weight. In all honesty, I could have controlled it better if I had started eating healthy when it started happening and not put on 20lbs in a year so I truly blame myself for letting it get the best of me. But, I've taken control over my body now and not the PCOS and I'm becoming a lot healthier a person because of it.0

Mel I lose so much hair daily its unreal. I hate it. My hairs so thin as it is. I've also heard dandruff goes hand in hand with pcos as well.0

Dear PCOS,
You suck! You will no longer run my life. As each day goes on I get stronger at fighting you. I don't care what your plans are, I will lose weight and I will have a baby!0 -
Thank you for this one! I was diagnosed w/ PCOS a few months ago, and at first I was devastated. Since then, I've discovered how common the disease is, and it's helped me to cope with it. Today, I picked up a weight loss magazine that contains an article about PCOS, so the discouragement resurfaced. And now, I log on to this site for the first time after a long hiatus, and I see this thread...
It is nice to know that other women share this experience. I don't have all of the symptoms of PCOS, but just knowing that I have it worries me. I am getting married this December, and I want to have children! I also want to lose 30 lbs before the wedding and children.0 -
Ive had the dandruff (I use head and shoulders everyday) and when I was heavier I lost a lot of hair on top of my head...like right behind my bangs...
I had basically all of the symptoms mentioned here. Not as much facial hair, I kinda had sideburns and a little stache, but it wasn't too bad0 -
Great post!!!
I too have PCOS and hate it! I got diagnosed in 2006 after TTC for over a year. I had been on BCP for years, which kept my PCOS at bay. It wasnt till I went off to TTC that my body went CRAZY! I gained 20lbs in a few months despite working out like crazy!
After months of no period and not getting pregnant, my OB prescribed Clomid and referred my to a reproductive endocrinologist! It was this dr who diagnosed me and put me on Metformin. After getting through the GI issues, I finally felt normal again, although still could not conceive!
After multiple rounds of fertility drugs, my first IVF round I conceived twins. Sadly I lost my baby girl at 24 weeks gestation. I carried my son to term and delivered both babies at 37 weeks.
It wasnt till TTC our next child that I truly relaized how much PCOS sucks! After 6 more rounds of IVF, my RE basically told me there is a 99% chance there is something genetically wrong with all of my eggs, therefore causing me to lose my baby girl and not having luck conceiving any more children.
So PCOS....you can suck it! Im done TTC any more children, you have ruined it for me! But now Im taking control back of MY body!!!! You will no longer control me!!! I control you via diet and exercise and I feel great!!!!0 -

I live in a Tiny town and my Family DR. has no idea what PCOS is to this day....I have clearly explained it to him in full detail and he still thinks that I should be losing weight Faster. i totally agreeeeee...BUT EVERY TIME i SHOWS HIM my food diary and logs...He states thaT i AM DOINg the right thing and I am losing weight at a phenomenol level.0 -
Mel my last doc was also a moron. I asked for metformin to help with my pcos symtpoms and he looked at me like I was stupid and I had to explain to him what the benefits would be to someone with pcos! So glad I no longer see that doctor. I wish there was other treatment options for those of us who are not ttc.0

Dear PCOS, I use to be able to live without having my period all the time, but your really screwing up my plans for a family. I love how within the last 2 years all of my friends have gotten pregnant and here I sit still baren. I love the embarrasing question of when people ask you when your going to start trying for a baby, or why don't you have kids yet? Thanks for the embarrassment and lack of children!0

A combination of biotin and rogaine worked well for me before I got pregnant! I can't wait to be able to start them again...as long as I don't go completely bald in the meantime.0 -

Does anyone have an opinion of doing exercise/calorie counting including Phentermine while having PCOS at the same time? My weightloss is just SO SLOW! It's incredible how slow it is actually.I've tried virtually everything to kick it into gear....but man...I really feel like I need extra help and I was reading a Phentermine thread. Wondered if anyone had any input on it and PCOS?0
-
Elaine....... my thoughts EXACTLY....... and the waste of money on the tons of pregnancy tests, because you just never really know if you are or not because of the missing periods. I'd be satisfied with just half of that money back......0

Dear PCOS,
Thanks for making my weight loss journey last much longer than I intended. I just love working out 7 days a week, strictly counting calories, eating healthy, and only losing 13 pounds after 4 months of this!! You can try to stop me, but you'll lose. I love competition, and it's you and me, buddy! ...oh yes, I will beat you!
I just started a slow carb diet after lots of reading and research, so let's see how this goes! Anyone else tried a slow carb diet (not low carb or no carb, just choosing the right carbs)? Did you have success? Feel free to friend me. This is my second time losing the weight, so I know that it can be done, even with PCOS. I lost over 100 pounds the first time, so we can all do this!0 -
Dear PCOS,
I've really had enough of your little "gifts"; the dark patches on my neck, skin tags, weight issues (that actually make you worse), the never knowing when I'm going to get my period, having to spend $100's on meds to MAKE my period come and then ovulate, the inability to keep my pregnancies (just miscarried last week, again)....and the numerous other "annoyances".
Go suck an egg.
Regards,
Me0 -

i've never learned much about Slow carbing...I've always been told that Low Glycemic eating with tons of exercise is the way to go...I would love to learn more about this as well! WE WILL BEAT THIS PCOS!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

I am soooooo sorry you miscarried. I have done this multiple times (about 4 known times) and it devastates me each time....I feel like such a useless woman when those things happen to me....but every other instance of my life seems to be so good and on track....I know it's hard and it's difficult, but that is one of the reasons I started this thread. We have to be able to VENT OUR FRUSTRATIONS.....because it IS frustrating....No one that has been diagnosed with this ever asked for it voluntarily and I truly believe that we can beat it, but it is such a LONG journey for us that we almost need to stay together and support eachother in this battle. Good luck and you WILL get through this!!!!!!!!!!!!0
