Here is today's joke of the day:

    :)

Maurice an 82 year-old man went to the doctor for his physical.

A few days later the doctor saw Maurice walking down the street with a gorgeous young lady on his arm.

A couple of days later do doctor spoke to Maurice and said, “You’re really dong great, aren’t you?”

Maurice replied, “Just doing what you said, Doc: “Get a hot mamma and be cheerful.”

The doctor said, “I did not say that. I said, “You got a heart murmur. Be careful.”

    Hi all,
It is still cold. My front yard is a total northern exposure and see's no sun. I wanted to mow it one last time but it never thawed out enough. So I guess I stay with shaggy grass until spring.

I stayed home from work yesterday and had my therapy of choice. That is, I laid on the floor with Bodi and cuddled for about an hour and prior to that Ritter jumped on the bed with me right after DH left for work and cuddled up next to me. Nothing make me feel better fast than the loves and cuddles I get from my "boys".

I raked leaves this weekend and did other mundane things around the house but at least I felt somewhat normal. The scale is still holding with a slow slow but steady drop. Since I am not really working on weight loss right now it is a nice thing to see anyway.

I hope you are all hanging in there. Don't let the holidays panic you, and if they do, there is always Xanax.

Just popping in to say "hi" to everyone. I apologize, but it's been taking me hours to read and respond to everyone. I really want to be able to do that because I feel it's much more personal, and I wanted to get to know each of your better. Unfortunately, I cannot no longer afford the time.

Please know that I am keeping up with everyone's news and saying a prayer of thanksgiving for the successes and prayers that God will bless all those who are struggling with personal and family issues. You guys are absolutely wonderful and I have really grown to love this site.

Welcome to all those who are new. Looking forward to keeping up with you as well.

Hugs to all! Stay healthy and warm!

Quick Question: I am searching for an activity tracker that will count steps/activity, monitor heart rate without a chest strap, and monitor skin temp/perspiration. I haven't used one before. If you have any experience with any of the brands, can you please tell me from your experience which are the good ones and which ones to avoid?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Good eve from very cold Ohio.We had around 5" of snow ....high today was 11*. Will be close to 0 tonight.
Love comfort food this time of year,so made Zuppa Toscana soup, with enough for tomorrow. Then pumpkin pie for DH.I tasted, but will have my slice later. Just 50 cals under my limit ,but thats ok.

Like some other posters, would like to answer everyone, but just isn't possible.Someone mentioned it's hard to concentrate as we age. Such a true statement! Most of my hobbies have gone the way of the dodo for that very reason.Even reading,my longest lasting interest.Have been a heavy reader since grade school. Now,no matter how interesting the book is,often find myself staring at the wall. Grrrr, makes me wonder where my mind has gone!!

Enough complaining. Good luck to those trying to eat healthy & Congrats to the losers. Pat

I've been watching the "wearable tech" market with lots of interest. I got a fitbit about three years ago. Lots of trouble with them for me: I get a skin reaction from the armband one, both the armband and clip one burn through battery or charge, and then I lose them.

Great review here from CNet: http://www.cnet.com/topics/wearable-tech/

And for a very in-depth review of one you think you might want, check with the man himself, DC Rainmaker. He provides the best reviews out there on sports tech items of all kinds. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/

"There are so many wonderful tools out there. But how does the person implement a tool in the moment when they don't want to implement the tool, when they want to eat? And that's where most people get tripped up, because they go into the moment of want, and they can't use the tools."

Yup! This is what I am working on. :)

    Good evening, everybody!
It was a cold day today but we're supposed to warm up to the upper 60's on Sunday. This weather is crazy. I sympathize with all of you who are battling the snow. In TN they close school at the first flurry. As a retired teacher, I can say I enjoyed some of those days even though it seemed ridiculous to be at home. We have not had a decent snow in years. Most of my students had never had a really good snow to play in. Maybe this winter we'll see some.

Beth - my mother was born near Buffalo in 1916. I've always wanted to visit the area, but I'll be sure it isn't in the winter time if I ever get to go.

Jen -I am a newbie here and am already feeling very welcome. Congrats on your weight loss!

Carol - I love the phrase "lurking around". It sounds a little sinister but in this case it is a great way to keep up with friends and gain encouragement! I'm sure I will go through times of just "lurking" and not posting.

Sylvia - I know where you are now. I remember it as much hillier than central KS. I was born in Wichita - raised in Hutch. As a Kansas state graduate I am very familiar with the flint hills They are strange, bare, but beautiful. Sorry about the new shoes.

Thank you all for helping me feel welcome.
Prayers for those of you in pain or facing personal challenges.

Dropping by for a whine...Came home to no heat! It had evidently worked all day until the thermostat told it to go warmer at 5:30 p.m. It is set to 62 while I am at work and it was 61 when I walked in and found all of the vents dispensing cold air. I'm bundled up and will call for repairs in the morning. Hope it's an easy fix because I don't have the money for a major repair; I'll be living in the cold.

Well, if you're watching the national weather news, then you know that the Great Lakes regions, especially Buffalo, is getting socked with a major, dangerous storm. While I "only" have about 3-1/2 feet right now, others near me are reporting well over 4 into 5 feet. We're expecting another 20 inches tonight. The plows and emergency crews are struggling due to the sheer amount of snow and whiteout conditions ... so roads are closed. We know friends who have relatives who are stranded on I-90 south of Buffalo. DH and I spent 2 hours trying to open our driveway ... just trying to keep up with it really ... as we received several Town Emergency Calls that travel bans were being strictly enforced. Schools are already cancelled again for tomorrow.

My son with the disabilities had someone with him today and has plans for help tomorrow. We will be writing large Christmas bonuses this year for his aides, that's for sure!! There is no way my husband and I would have made it to his place today!

And believe it or not ... it's supposed to get into the 50's by Monday. It will be until Spring, however, until we get rid of this much heavy snow.

I'm bushed ... I forgot just how hard all that shoveling and clearing is ... several achy muscles tonight!

I spent my day walking dogs, running errands (cold but no snow here), and riding my exercise bike while watching my recordings of DWTS and figure skating. Read all your posts but no time for much of a reply. Burned lots of calories. Jake bought a second hand treadmill today and will bring it home tomorrow so our living room will look more like a gym. We'd get rid of the couch but the dogs like to lie on it and hang out with us.

Just finished reading page 20 and have comments to make before I start the next one.
Rita I had an abusive husband and although things were good sometimes I always knew that it was a temporary reprieve and that he would revert to type sooner rather than later.
Hoff2002. You are not alone in finding the scale way up after eating Chinese food. I find that I'm always up 2 to 3 pounds the morning after.

Pat your Christmas cactus is beautiful. I have two that are in bud at the moment. They grew from two tiny leaves about the size of your pinky fingernail that were all shriveled up when I brought them back from England several years ago. They came off a large plant that had been my grandmother's but which my dad had left outside after my mum's death when he couldn't be bothered with lots of plants indoors.

Michele. I don't have to have a blood test before my injection. The first two were done at the specialists office just to make sure that there was no reaction. Since then I just pick up the meds from the pharmacy and go to my doctor's office and the nurse does the injection and I don't have to see the doctor.

Regarding the cocoa, if you mix the powder with an equal amount of cold milk it should mix Okay but it does take a firm minute or so of stirring. Then you add the hot milk.

Leslie & Kiki - Thank you both for the information about activity trackers. I really appreciate your help! Now, I'm off to research!

Take care everyone. Stay warm to all who are in areas being affected. California folks, hope you get the rain you need. To everyone, praying that you will be blessed with all that your heart needs.

Well, its a sign how crazy insane my life has been when I saw this post and thought, wow, this sounds like a fun group and will help me set some goals for November. It was only until I started reading more posts that realized that we were ALREADY in November, in fact, almost 3/4 thru. How did that happen?

So my intention for November and December is to not gain any weight during these two months and already, I'm up a pound  That's ok. I'm staying focused and not going crazy and I think reading your posts each day will help me. Thank you!

Jen, another Hoosier! From the sound of your weather, it sounds like you are from northern Indiana. I am from Evansville which is extreme south western.

I am also one that doesn't get a lot of sun in the front yard. We live in a bi-level which is taller than a ranch but not as tall as a two story. The sun takes care of the back yard but we still have about 3 inches of snow in the front yard. The homes across the street from us are almost bare today. I feel like taking my shovel and giving them some of mine!!!

I can't believe how much snow is in Buffalo now, It is just now on the news. But I hear you have some fantastic snow removal equipment.

Sylvia, so sorry about your shoes. Bruno is just being who he is and I think you gave him the right name. It was when one of our dogs ate the skirt off of our couch that we knew anytime we weren't at home he had to be in a crate. We had previously thought it would be cruel but how wrong we were. He really enjoyed that crate. I agree with the others about taking the other Grandma to places. We all have to learn, insert me pointing my finger back at myself, that we make choices for ourselves and must also take the consequences for those actions. It's terrible that people take advantage of others. Sorry about your back. I did that Sunday just by standing up! Yep, stood up in church and my back went into a spasm. All better now with Advil and heating pad.

    I've caught up, finally!

Terrimom. Don't know what kind of salmon steaks you get. Are they the horseshoe shaped ones? I agree with you those have lots of bones in the middle. I normally now buy the steaks that are cut across, so they are skinless and boneless. I grill them wrapped in foil, but not tightly wrapped. I put some slits in the fish with the point of a knife then pour on some maple syrup to soak in, then grill it.

Cynthia, if it is the Fitbit plastic that caused the problem, try painting the back with nail polish. I do hope it isn't radiation burn.

Sylvia, I'd made a note to say that when I was a kid my mum would never let me wear them until they had been cleaned and polished with shoe polish to avoid getting scuff marks on them. I guess now Bruno has chewed them it is probably a bit late for polish. I hope they aren't as bad as you fear.
I'm going to get some new boots tomorrow, the store I'm planning to go to has a 15% discount this week. The 2 pairs I looked at yesterday were $240 and $345. The last pair I bought were also quite expensive but I've had them for about 15 years. I take size 11 ( 9 in UK) and have very wide feet, so I don't get a lot of choice. When I'm in UK I like to go to Hotters.

    Hi everyone

Cynthia - they withdrew the last fitbit due to allergies / rash issues in the band, but this is the first time I have heard it about fitbit one. Hope the Dr clears you quickly. Hope your mums gets better

Katia - I am from Perth, Western Australia, our climate is the direct opposite to you, when you are hot, we are cold and vice versa. I am sure you will find an app - there seems to be one for just about everything except winning the lotteries :)

Carol - hope you are feeling better soon

Michelle - I am hoping that the puppy's mass reduced, it is sad to put animals down :(

MollyWhippett - I have somehow lost the Left shoe of my good work shoes - the mystery is that we can not find it where my BC would normally leave it after sneaking them out for a chew - I will need to go and buy a new pair this week

Terri - How did the acupuncture go?

Lesley - can you please let me know when the Kogan HRM arrives and what you think of it?

I am having a lot of up and downs at the moment, the company that I work for is going to drop 25% of its workforce (just over 550 people). People are being tapped on the shoulder all the time - last night 3 people who I have known or worked along side for 24 years were tapped. Last night's eating was bad, but I recorded it all in my food diary so that is a plus and a bigger plus is I am back on track this morning eating a healthy breakfast instead of going to the bakery as I really really wanted to do

    Keep smiling

    Trish
