I'm content defeating the person in me that says I can't do this.
Sometimes I think we get too focused on speed. One of my favorite running buddies is 87. He's not as fast now as he once was, but he still runs 4 days a week. I've learned a lot about running and about living from him. I hope he never stops running & I hope someday I grow to be just like him.
That is wonderful!

Packed my gym bag yesterday when the feels like temp was 9F, today feels like was 34F. I was wearing capris, a tank as a base layer and a long sleeve tee. I was so hot! Should have been in shorts, sports bra and long sleeves. Going to start keeping more backups at the office.

Great job on your Vegas race - that is an awesome time!!
Does it really matter what corral you are in? Within the first mile you will be way beyond the slower people you start out with. Or are you using those around you to motivate you to run faster?
In Vegas, I started with an 8:30 pace corral, and ended up running the first 5k both slower than I would have liked, and ended up running about 13.3 miles with all of the running around other competitors I needed to do to maintain my pace.
Disney will have about 30,000 runners on it and can get narrow in spots... so if I want to run an 8 minute mile pace starting in my submitted finish time corral, I'd be spending the entire race finding openings to run around the 10,000 runners doing between an 8:30 pace and a 10:30 pace. Spending 3.5 hours passing people on a narrow course isn't my idea of fun - so I ended up paying the $45 to defer to 2016.abnine asks how my Las Vegas race was: I was solidly in the middle, happy with my 12 minute pace, but obviously lagged far behind Ohhim.....and he was apparently a lot warmer than I was!
My first half marathon back in February was at a 12 minute mile pace... just continue to put in the miles, and you'll find yourself both up front and sweating like a hog. One of the buddies I ran with at vegas (who won the race back in 2000) used to get his body temperature up to 112 degrees when racing track in college, so the cool can definitely be a big help.0 -
Fabnine asks how my Las Vegas race was: I was solidly in the middle, happy with my 12 minute pace, but obviously lagged far behind Ohhim.....and he was apparently a lot warmer than I was!I don't race at all. I run for the bliss that is running. I suppose if I were more competitive I'd wish to be faster than all the other runners, but it's not about what anyone else can do. I'm content defeating the person in me that says I can't do this.

Thanks - it is something I have wondered about. I ran Long Beach - almost as big as Disney but there were no narrow places and everyone pretty much paced from where they were and many fast runners in that race and others I have run started in the back and moved up as things spread out so they aren't stuck in the middle of a large pack all trying to move at once. I will be running my first and probably only Disney Half in January so I will find out what it is like then.
Loving that it has finally cooled down so that I can run pretty much anytime my schedule allows which this week has been afternoons! Hoping this cool weather trend continues!
