Unexpected results of weight loss

Cold all the time
I relate to the bony knees comment!
Still can't quite believe I wear size Small (always thinking it will NEVER fit)
Much, much lighter periods (but still as painful sadly)
Clothes shopping is actually fun (maybe a bit too much fun)
I go through walking/running shoes way too fast
I swear that PMS is worse
Butt hurts every time I sit on something too long
Not having to go around cars in parking lots because I can easily fit between them now, even if they are parked too close
Similarly, not having to go through the passenger door if someone parks too close to my car on the left.
I'm not even touching alcohol because I'll be drunk after one glass (I was already a cheap date before)
I don't need to buy as many pain pills anymore as 2 is actually plenty now (had to use 3 or more before)
Still get cracked heels though. Hmph. And asthma hasn't gone away. And loose skin... so much loose skin.

Adam's apple keeps getting nicked when shaving
Boney bump on wrist rubs on spine when washing my back, like someone dragging a mallet across a xylophone
I look forward to clothes shopping
Searching out clothes with a slim or athletic fit
Grabbing medium size clothes to try on because they look like they'll fit, only to have to go back and get size small
Lots more choices in my new size on the clearance rack
Actual pits in my armpits
Sleep much better
Almost always cold
Uncomfortable to sleep on my side with knees together
No more back acne
Need to get my hair cut shorter otherwise it looks like I have way too much hair for my head
Crave exercising, I get antsy if I cannot due to weather or time constraints4 -

When I first started going to the gym 8 or 9 months ago, I was uncomfortable. Worried I would make a fool of myself doing something, or someone would be a dick and I wouldn't want to go back. I did a couple classes, then I ventured into the cardio room, then I ventured into the small weight room. THEN, I decided I wanted to really lift and started working with a trainer. I'll work with her for a week or two, then do it on my own for a while. During the holidays, I spent a lot of time out of town. As soon as I got back to the gym, several people asked if I was ok, they hadn't seen me around. Then asked how my holidays were.
What was even better was a couple of weeks ago when I was lifting on my own and just knew these two guys in the weight room were watching me. (And, in my mind, judging.) It turned out they were. Since the trainer wasn't with me I was probably taking it a little lighter on my bench. Once of them walked over and said, "You can do more than that. I've seen it. I'll spot you, let's go."
At this point, when I went in on the holiday Monday, the guys working the desk had a game going where they made a list and bets of the people they each thought would come in on the holiday. I made both their lists. As they said, Yeah, we knew YOU would be here.
I have a whole extra set of friends now!
This is awesome and should be shown to all girls who are afraid to go to the weight room because boys.
Agreed. And, it should be shown to all the people who express fear to go to the gym or are afraid they won't stick with it. Awesome stories! Thanks for sharing.2 -
Definitely being cold.
My husband complains because my bones dig into his lap.
I sleep so much better.
Having more energy and wanting to go outside (unless it is cold).
Being in a better mood.2 -
Definitely relate to the bony knees! I just can't get comfy in bed any more as I can feel my hips, shoulders, ribs, etc poking into the mattress. I never expected that! I'm not used to being able to feel bones. I rubbed my hand across my chest recently and for a second freaked out when I thought I felt a hard lump. Thankfully it was just my ribs. lol so ridiculous. And I still have 25lbs to go. (down 95 so far).12

I haven't lost enough to have any "surprises" yet, but I'm excited to learn that knees get bony. Mine have looked like parts of ugly tree stumps for so long! I can't wait to wear a dress that shows my knees - and shorts! Oh, glorious shorts!!!! I may never wear capri's again if I ever get these tree stumps into shorts again!8

I've got visible muscle definition everywhere now and that wasn't the goal when I started.5

Went to Vegas this past weekend and I can not hold my liquor anymore. But I was able to walk miles on end. Didn't hit the buffet or think about food all day. Got hit on several times (been forever).
And I broke even. I will have to go back when its not freezing (always cold) and after I hit my target weight!

I actually asked my doctor about a lump in the middle of my chest. Who knew I had a STERNUM??? LOL18

These are all so inspiring - thank you for starting this thread
The only thing I've experienced so far is being cold *all.the.time* and I love when my daughter or niece or nephew give me a hug and say how much smaller I feel... LOL, still got a long way to go but I'm enjoying it so far.1 -
Thank you for posting. Some of these crack me up!!!2

Hi @nollaigfok not sure what you mean by your question, and for questions about weight loss or exercise you might be better searching for a thread specific to your enquiry, or by posting a question yourself if you can't find anything... If you mean did exercise help in weight loss then for me, definitely yes - it's been a combination of exercise on top of counting calories (you need both, not just the gym!) I also rarely eat back by calories burned from working out.2 -
Love these! Makes me excited to lose weight again0

Okay, this one is kind of interesting. Ordering clothes online, I need to pay for local shipping on top of initial shipping. Those charges double every 1 pound of item weight. Before I started losing weight, I used to wait anxiously not knowing if a shirt arrive weighing more than a pound. Now I order without blinking, knowing that all of my shirts , even sweaters, will weigh under 1 pound. Interesting how much I saved on shipping charges just by losing weight.7

I'm noticing my PF gets better with every few pounds lost. How much did you have to lose for it to go away?1 -
I'm loving these. Here are mine.
1. I have a sternum. Huh.
2. My 13 year old son can pick me up.
3. I weigh less than I did in high school. My husband has never seen me this small.
4. The feeling of accomplishment when the first thing you did today was get in a great workout...and you LIKED it.
5. No longer able to claim, "Sorry, can't, my upper body is SOOOO WEEEEAK."
Looking forward to the day when I can say, "Wait, there are MUSCLES in my STOMACH? Since when?"8 -
Pretty much all of these apply to me, but one really unexpected benefit was being able to boost myself out of the pool from the side without moving to a ladder or stairs while on vacation last year. I always felt like a beached whale trying to scramble out of the pool, but on vacation last April I felt like Esther Williams boosting myself up and sliding gracefully out of the pool!! Felt great!13

I lost the padding in my butt! Totally didn't expect to need to add a pillow to my computer chair....and to be uncomfortable sitting on any hard surface.1

Wow, where to start! I am so cold - all the time. I have lost 54 lbs so far, in just 24 weeks (32 more to go) My wedding rings fall off, stopped wearing them until I get to goal weight and will resize them. Every 10 lbs has been another size in clothes, so I have so very little to wear, since I don't want to invest a fortune in transition clothes. My feet have gotten smaller. I can actually see where my ribs are when I am lying down, who even knew they were there before? Same with the sternum, and hip bones. People keep calling me things like skinny and slim - never heard those words associated with me before. I can wear heels again, I always thought my feet just hated them, but they just hated the weight on top of them! Boobs are not fond of quick weight loss, they just want to hang there and not stand up anymore, LOL! I am starting to see muscles emerge in surprising places. I CAN actually run, never expected that to happen. I LIKE exercise, who is this stranger in my body?6

My glasses keep sliding off! I don't wear them often, usually contacts, but today I did and keep having to push them up! I guess I need to get them readjusted!4

Running..and catching the bus. Also commuting by bike.
Reading these posts are fantastic.3 -
This was awesome! The lady who said her body not clapping when she ran up the stairs had me dying!!!
The first time I lost weight I had the "I'm still a big girl syndrome" and went into shock when I went into my favorite store and could no longer fit into Plus Size jeans. It scared me so bad to go into the Misses department for a size 11 instead of 18-20.12 -
Like others, I'm always cold (unless I have a hot flash..) but I LOVE the snazzy looking microfiber or wool thermal base layers from outdoor clothing/equipment companies. A lot of them are now on sale as winter is passing, and I am buying! Wonderful leggings, slinky running tops, wearing them under my clothes to keep warm. No added bulk. They feel good, look sporty, and actually make me feel like exercising more!7

Nice job, everyone! It is so fun to read everyone's experiences. SandyCoils, I know what you mean about it scaring you to shop in the misses department. When I first started shopping there I felt like an interloper, like people would be thinking "what is she doing in here?".
I can fit with ease in my seat on an airplane and not worry about crowding someone else.
I can sprint to catch my train instead of waiting for the next one.
I had to buy a super thick yoga mat to replace my thin mat because I lost so much padding (chub).
I was so confused as to why it wasn't comfortable to lean on a wall, then realized my shoulder blades were no longer protected by a layer of insulation. Same with my butt when sitting on my hard wood floor.
Better nutrition means my hair, nails, and skin are nicer.
Smaller shoes! I no longer have to special order WW shoes online.
It boggles my mind that I fit into small athletic compression pants. When I hold them up they look too small.
I don't get sick as often. I used to get several colds a year.
I can now wear boots. 3 years ago I wouldn't have been able to fit a boot over my calf to save my life.

This! I have about a month until my yearly eye exam and can't wait to get new glasses! I'm constantly pushing mine up because they are suddenly falling down my face.1
