ok, so made a meatloaf, and hamburger and rice for the dogs, DH painted part od bathroom he told me how much paint to get, he used a roller, so not enough paint ,
now he in there taking tile off the wall. of course he hit something in the wall which blew out the fan and the shower light.. so we will be showering in the dark until the electrician comes next week.. thats the only thing about starting a project, it is never as easy as it seems0 -
Thanks Barbie. I will be turning 50 in eight days and have many mixed feelings about this I live in Illinois approximately 3 hrs SW of Chicago. I am hoping to make big changes this year0

Thank you for all your kind words. I love starting this thread every month and I love how all of you keep it going. None of us can do this alone. We need all the different participants:
*the storytellers who give us something to think about and respond to
*the responders who let us know we're not talking to only ourselves
*the listeners who may or may not write anything
*the cheerleaders
*the ones who tell us to "snap out of it"
*the joke tellers
*the recipe suppliers
*the exercise students
*the nutrition students
*the photo sharers
*the technology experts
*and those in several other categories that I didn't think of in the shower this morning.
PS. I am 68 years old and started sharing on this thread at age 62 weighing almost 60 pounds more than I do now----I am younger and healthier and fitter now than I was then.

Hi all. It’s a cold Sunday here. Not sure what’s on the agenda. We slept through and missed church again. I never want to get up, but find I get such a positive start on my day when we go. It’s just that it seems by Sunday I am done in and can’t bear getting up! We might go to the Jeep club meeting, but then I’m not sure what to do about “Sunday dinner”. I guess we can have it tomorrow. I’ll be home early enough to oven fry a whole chicken. Actually I am on spring break but do have to go in. We dropped one clinical group and there is so much to change that I couldn’t get it all done Friday. I also am having blood work done…the “menopause” labs.
Sylvia: actually what I found hilarious was the joke about the cop shooting the horse!
Katla: I too love my coffee!
Lilian: I think there are lots of people joining you in your wish for a gentle spring!
Kim: we have tried everything to contain this dog! We have a very open house, and only a couple of spots that would work with a baby gate, etc…he climbs them like a fireman on a ladder! Closing him in leads to destroyed woodwork. No crates as you read (my last dog loved her crate). So we are holding out hope that the meds will work and his need to urinate will lessen. It’s hard to be mad at him when it’s a medical condition. Thanks for the thoughts though!
Joyce: sounds like you had a good time and your DDs strategy with hubby worked!
Heather: I too become overwhelmed with too much going on. Your bread looks delish….I’ll be waiting for my loaf to appear on my doorstep!
Cynthia: I hope the job situation is a good choice for you…sounds like it will be
DeeDee: love the pic! You look amazing and very happy
Suzy: I give you an A+ on the abbreviations!
Alison: I collect plates! Actually I have a collection but don’t add to it anymore. I especially love handpainted florals, but have Norman Rockwells and other artists on plates.
Janet: even though I have slacked off on posting I still think about this group everyday and wonder what people are doing and what they would say…so I guess it is an obsession of a type, but it’s a positive one!
Michele: I am so sorry about your family situation. I often wonder why myself…my DD#1 lives 15 minutes away and I haven’t seen her since New Years day. The only time she texts her dad is when she wants something. She never brings the baby over, never calls to see how we are, nothing. Never asks us over….I realize she is totally overwhelmed with her situation but you think it’d make her want her family more. So I am right with you in wondering why our kids act the way they do. (((hugs)))
Barbie; thanks again for the thread! You are the glue that holds us together!
Well I’m off to try to make something of my day. Still unsure! Enjoy whatever you decide to do today! Take care, Meg from Omaha

It refuses to turn yellow for me, just keeps saying "You have no bookmarks yet." Well, duh. The program won't let me set any!
Bookmarked from my main browser, though. We'll see how that goes.

We have just had the most amazing thunderstorm! Charlie, the doodle, had to move away from the fireplace as hail started coming in down the chimney and bouncing off her! It must have stung! The lightening and thunder was almost on top of each other and then the wind and the rain made such a noise it was louder than the thunder! What a half hour!
It's all calmed down now. What a change a half hour makes.
If we had managed to get our chimney swept last month we could be sitting in front of a roaring fire now... oh well!

Good morning everyone, it's a bright sun shiny day here in Edmonton.
February Goals- Do menu planning and start cooking - I planned for the whole month and was able to try a number of new recipes. It took me a while to get organized. This was harder and more time consuming than I had thought. It has had a number of benefits though. I didn't waste any food as I only shopped for the week and only bought what was on my list. It was easier to shop every week and each week it cost me less. I also planned how to use the left overs.
Did I mention I hate cooking! I found that knowing what I was going to have for the next day made it easier and relieved some of the stress of making meals. I also decided if I was going to cook, I was going to make it as easy as possible. I bought some tools to make things easier...my favorite was a 3 cup food chopper....ah onions you don't faze me now!
Another advantage of meal planning was that we didn't order in as much. Went from 4 to 5 times a week to only once last month. Woo hoo.... so much easier on my bank account! - Eat 3 meals a day - I did pretty well at this although I had a couple of days that were touch and go.
- Log all meals - I logged everything and was diligent in measuring.
- Stay in range of calorie goal - I did pretty well although I had difficulty some days in getting the minimum amount of calories. I realized that I haven't been eating enough.
Goals for March- Do menu planning and cooking
- Eat 3 meals a day
- Log all meals
- Stay in range of calorie goal
- Do physiotherapy exercises once a day
- Celebrate my accomplishments

Since I last checked in there have been over 1000 posts. so I will try again this month.
We are all hanging in there. Bodi had a busy day with play and a walk yesterday.
I had a 5 day TSQL coding class last week so my brain is still mush.
I hope you are all doing well.

Good afternoon! We had below freezing temps and lots of rain this morning so the day got off to a strange start. My church had an abbreviated worship service and then I left to go to one of my work churches to do a training session. There were lots of folks there--are more than I expected. Now I am at home and working on getting all of the laundry finished!
Pip - When I met my male best friend, he told me that I had a F***-off vibe, so I get where you're coming from. I am introverted and therefore am quiet and I tend to sit back and watch, so people think I'm stuck up. My background doesn't help any because I do have my guard up all of the time and I probably tend to be kind of prickly for people who don't know me.
Kim - Thanks for telling me about the meetup.com. I've heard of them before but because of my being an introvert, I've always been afraid to go. It's difficult for me to meet people in a social situation -- I totally freeze up. I might like the hiking group sort of thing because there would be less one on one interaction.
I think I will put my laundry in the dryer then walk around the parking lot a bit. Not too sure about heading over to the park since we still have lots of snow and ice around.
Thanks for being here!

Is Monday here
Yesterday we went for a drive, the first since Mildred beagle died. We passed beaches she used to love running on and I never cried. Remembered her with LOVE We had a good day and it felt strange NOT seeing her in the back of car.
Stan is pulling out a row of raspberries as we cannot see her grave from the house and he KNOWS I say goodnight to her. He is a good man and said HE is hurting too but cries when I am not around. I cry less now I tell her my news
Taking tome to grieve and remember her with love.
I am shampooing dining area today and will go for 3 mile walk this afternoon.
March ideas:
Log all food - healthy stuff
Log all exercise
Write my blog and be honest
Exercise 6 days a week, choose on the day
Enjoy Sunday drives again
Shower and put make-up on each day
STOP making excuses
Keep my budget up to date - NO excuses
Make shopping list Monday for Tuesday

Get real - Need to stop sabotaging myself with impulse eating and log all calories.
Checked lab results drawn yesterday - my aic and fasting glucose have been gradually rising over the past year and I can feel the difference.

Heather - your cooking looks/sounds so great - please share the kimchi!0 -
Lillian in WC Saskatchewan: Your goals for March seem ambitious when I look at them on March 1, but you have 31 days to get them done, and I’m betting you’ll make them with room to spare.
Kim: Your time with your quilting friend sounds like it was really a pleasure. Yay!
Carol in NC: Kim’s post reminds me of two of our sailing friends. Both were members of Meet Up in Portland, and that is how they found one another. He offered a sailing excursion and several people came. She wasn’t able to make it so he offered to take her on her own sailing trip. They’ve been happily married about 2 ½ years now. From what I heard last summer, it sounds a though the PDX group is currently less active than previously.
Heather: I love your idea of a date day with DH. Good luck with the WI situation. It looks as though you may have stumbled into a leadership role. I would demand at least one partner to share the load, preferably two or three. I think you’re lucky, too. There are several reasons, and most of them boil down to good choices you are making combined with the blessing of your DH. You have a good one.
Peachstategal: I like the idea of “now” rather than wallowing in the past or worrying about the future. I try to do that, too. I cut down my level of stress when I quit obsessing about possibilities I can’t control. Unfortunately the worries do sneak back in some times.
Sylvia: Nice car story. I hope the wife finds somebody as enthused about her as the husband is about her car.
Michele: Sending you hugs and hope for you to reach some level of personal balance regarding your son that eases the suffering you go through. Things are so hard now, and have been for the whole time I’ve known you. I am sorry that you have so much heartbreak.
Michele and Margaret X: There is a hollow star at the top of this thread. If you click on it, it will turn yellow. Then when you come to MFP and go to Community, clicking the gray star will get you just below your own most recent post to this group. You have to do it again with each new month.
Litre in Manitoba: Welcome.
Pipcd34: Hugs to you. Your friend seems like a mean girl. I think you are honest and refreshing.
Meg: I hope you’re feeling better rested soon.
Meg and Michele: My kids are back after each of them shunned us for a while. They’re quite a bit older than your kids and it took a long time for things to improve. Eventually they did improve. My daughter is now a mother herself, and 35ish. My son is nearly 40. This separation your kids seem to impose may take some time for them to work through, and you are not at fault. I am sending virtual hugs and encouraging thoughts to both of you.
Robin: Nice to see you.
DS has headed back home after spending a couple of days with us. He’s taken his sailboat to have bottom paint put on, and I’ve helped with painting the trailer. Hopefully, he will be able to use the boat and trailer to have fun in the future now that it is finally getting all fixed up.

March Goals:
1. Log every bite and swallow.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week.
3. Have fun every day.
4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
5. Eliminate alcohol.
6. Monitor sleep.

Posting to mark my spot. Went to a long opera last night and then had to sing at early service at church this morning.
Sarcoidosis acting up again with breathing cold air. Saw pulmonologist and now on prednisone again. Don't like being on it but thankful it takes care of the problem.
Made 107 miles in February. My goal for March is 120. I have a new friend on Fitbit who is really challenging me. Also will be working some regular hours as the young woman who took my place when I retired is quitting after less than one year. Working at the hospital always ups my step count!
Other goals for March: Continue with water exercise 3x per week, no snacking after dinner, drink at least 6 glasses of water daily.
Healing angels to all who need them and congratulations to those with victories. Sue in SD0 -
I have to modify my goals for the month because of starting the Strong lift 5 X 5. I can only work out the 3 days a week, I must rest every other day. If I want to do cardio I must do it after I do the strong lift 5 X 5 for the day. That is a huge change for me because, I do 2-3 hours of cardio a day, and body weight exercise M,W,F. That changes everything to only 30 - 45 minutes of strength exercises 3 days a week. I am taking before pictures and body measurements and weight today. I might gain weight but my body and measurements are supposed to change. I will keep you updated. I will need to find something else to do the 2 - 3 hours that I use to exercise. I may have to put a lock on the refrigerator door!
March goals,
Make healthier choices.
Move more sit less.
Strong lift 5 X 5, 3 times / week.

Mary, everything I've read about strength training has told me to lift the heaviest I can and have a rest day in between. I don't lift as heavy as I think you do, but the day after my strength training workout I can feel that I've worked hard and I rest from it the next day. The thing about a good strength training workout is that it takes a lot less time that lifting "baby weights" for a zillion repetitions. I walk every day and dance three days a week (sometimes more).
Lesley, grief is such a personal process. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.

Thanks ,Barbie for the new thread.
Did better last month and actually saw the scale move in the right direction.
Meg,we too, slept in and missed church.
March goals are to conitue to loose wt and eat better.

Litre - welcome! Happy belated birthday. You've got the "d" in dh, etc right. Sometimes it can stand for "dear", other times for "d***" also
Sylvia - thanks so much for telling me where the star was. I knew there was something, just wasn't sure where. I must have missed it before. Thanks again
cssl - happy birthday
Allison - don't get soap in your eye!!!
Carey - I hand it to you, I can only plan my meals one week in advance. How you do a month at a time....I'm impressed. What kind of food chopper do you have? I have a zyliss. It was rated the highest by America's Test Kitchens, but they really don't like any vege chopper. Well...I'm not good with a knife.
katla and meg - I remember when Jessica was a teen, I would, literally, lock myself in the bathroom and read this book called "Get Out Of my Life but First Would You Drive me and Cheryl to the Mall". Otherwise, I swear at times I would have killed her. However, in that book it says "the more they (the teens) pull away, the harder they come back". Well, that's the way it's been with Jessica. Now she's the one who comes to see us about once/month, calls quite often. So I'm just hoping the same with Denise and Bryan. However, I have my doubts about Bryan since he's out of the country and Denise I don't know. She's so dependent and Pete's mother is (to me) so enabling.
barbie - you need to give your muscles 24 to 48 hours to recover. That's why I do weights on Monday, Thursday and then maybe Saturday.
Michele in NC0 -
Barbie - I don't lift at all at this point. But, you start out with an empty barbell 45 lbs for squats, bench press and over head press, 95lbs for dead lift, 65 lb barbell row. All at 5 sets of 5 reps. Then the next time you do that routine you add only 5 lbs. Slow and steady increase of weight. Arnold Schwarzenegger 's trainer developed this exercise method and Arnold did it. Women do not bulk up because of the lack of testosterone. Our muscles become dense and lean. I will find out.
Mary from Minnesota0 -
Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding.
Good Evening, lovely ladies.
MargaretTx, welcome and we look forward to hearing from you.
Litre, welcome to you as well. You will find this a very supportive group of women and learn lots of interesting tidbits too.
Pip, thanks for the dizzy spell with your upside down picture. You usually make me dizzy, informed, inspired or something. We love you too.
Allison, I’m sorry about your bathroom light, but did have to laugh because as I read I thought it was going to be something even worse. (It would have been with my DH)
Meg, talking about your DD, when mine lived right down the street about ½ mile away, we might go two or three weeks without hearing from her. Now that she has moved to the other side of the country we hear from her more often. I sometimes think that when they know we are nearby, they don’t feel the need? The one thing I know is that years ago I heard from a learned speaker that “Our kids turn out the way they turn out, no matter what we do”. I have hung on to that thought and can believe it when I see families with a number of kids that turn out so different in behavior. All I really know is that their actions and decisions can hurt us to the core.
Carey, great job on those Feb goals! You get a gold star. (*)
Carol, my daughter joined a number of group outings on meetup.com and really enjoyed it. They were all outdoor activities of different types and she just went to the ones of interest that the time and location suited her. I urge you to give it a try. **push—push**
Fancy, you don’t have to put a lock on the fridge, just lock food out of your brain. I’ll be very interested to see how your 5x5 training goes. Hopefully you won’t have a hard time finding things to do with your extra hours. Can you go for walks if they are slow enough to not raise your heart rate?
Lesley, so glad you had a nice drive. I think you are both doing great!
Welcome to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
So many of you have such lofty goals and are such an inspiration. I’ve only just started very elementary strength training and have so much respect for you “lifters”. Then there’s my buddy, Pip that only posted one activity today; a mere 9 mile jog in an hour and 22 minutes. OMG! I don’t know about the rest of you, but for me that would be a full out run, not that I could make it for more than about 2 minutes. Whoooowee You are all awesome!! But to the other, still fat, out of shape, older ladies like myself, just remember that any movement and any weight lifted is an improvement over sitting in a lounge chair. We can all do this, just some of us will take a little longer.
Everyone have a happy and healthy month.
My word #1 is savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
#2 is opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

Good evening!
Have collapsed into my chair ... the crazy decluttering weekend has come to an end. DH said "I forgot we have such a nice house." I smacked him.
The bank appraiser comes in the morning... I'll be up early doing light dusting and polishing. Now to get the family to maintain.
Wonders will never cease. DH joined my gym so DS#2 will go back!
February goals ...
Lose 6 pounds ... DONE ... lost 8!
Log every bit .... DONE
Exercise intentionally for 10 minutes every day ... NO ...
And sadly I can't remember the other goals?
March goals ...
Lose 5 pounds.
Log ever bite
Drink 8 glasses of water
Exercise intentionally for 10 minutes every day.
Gym once a week with DS#2 and DH ... a family affair!
DeeDee ... we are making progress on the wheelchair van ... but probably won't have one until August or September. In the meantime we do a lot of transferring into my car. But my son recently was given access to a van during the week. A young man passed away and his family donated his van to a foundation my son is a member of. He's sharing the van with 3 other disabled individuals right now. I just can't use it on the weekends ... which is when he comes home ...
Margaret ... I'm a long ways from having my waist measurement be half of my height... interesting.
Alison... I have plates ... beautiful floral from my family. And I collect tea cups! Not very savvy I suppose... but I enjoy them.
I'm off to bed.
Beth

Joyce – glad hub did so well at the DGKids event.
Heather – delegate delegate delegate! Sounds like a good idea to get to know the gals.
Alison – maybe you could keep one or two music boxes?
Michele – my heart goes out to you…. ((((((((((((((hug)))))))))))))))
Margaretx, aletaforeman/ litre – welcome!
Cssi1965 – turning 50 is not bad, unless you decide it will be bad..
Carey – great goals!
Carol – most folks think I am an extrovert, but inside I am introverted and find I do extrovert in a “role” so as the “teacher”, “caterer”, “note taker” I do fine… but this hike group everyone is just a walker…so it is fine.
Mary – I don’t think I could lift a 45lb bar with any finesse, I can heave a 45 lb bag of dog food on my hip, but that is not the same thing… I would have to start with 5 or maybe a 10lb bar…
I made a great salad dressing from Skinnytaste.com, creamy and yummy and thick enough to be a dip… Zesty Avocado Cilantro Buttermilk Dressing ! yummy
March goals:
Walk every day
Log all bites everyday
Eat slower
Plan and do a fun thing every week

Oh my goodness! Downton was wonderful tonight! The dogs had to come see what I was so excited about!
We took the kids out for supper tonight, which was fun. I didn't want to have them come here for dinner since my dishwasher is broken. I don't mind doing a few dishes in the sink, but maybe not that many.
So now, I'm off to bed. Good night everyone!
