What nobody tells you about losing weight

Your pants will seem to get longer! And now my husband can't seem to keep his hands off me!16

My daughter gives me random hugs because she can clasp her hands when we hug.16

The jealousy amongst "friends" was something I was quite surprised at. Having done every diet known in the world and failed at every one , I of course saw sense and installed MFP. Therefore giving me the ability to eat whatever I wanted. One of my favourite haters at work used to say (when she saw me eating anything more than rabbit food). "Oooohhhh. Suzi is going to be a very disappointed girl when she weighs herself next, eating THAT". With a very joyful face. I just said "keep watching".... And the weight just dropped and dropped. How absolutely satisfying
HAHAHA! LOVE IT! Way to wipe the smirk off her face!

I just love this post. I found all of this (even the weird stuff lol :P ) highly motivating! I'm just starting out with approx 180lbs to lose so very much needed to read this.12

Has also just happened to me! Goodbye 6.7 stones, goodbye gallbladder : (

A few things:
Clothes - I have my heavier wardrobe and thinner ward robe. Now the thinner ward robe is getting too big.
Food - A lot more time preparing and thinking about meals ahead of time. A lot of fun trying out new recipes, which of course are leaner.
energy - more energy for everything, especially my significant other.
Frustration - having behaved really well for a few days and not being down any.14 -
A few comments:
Gallbladder - my mother recently lost almost 15 pounds and apparently it's common for stones to dislodge and block the duct causing the need for removal. Hers was an emergency. Please see your doctor if you are having abdomen pain (google other symptoms), diarrhea after salads or items with lettuce, or severely reduced appetite.
Knees - For every pound of weight you lose you take 10 pounds of pressure off your knees.
Men - For every 10 pounds of weight loss you "gain" an inch. This is because the "fat pad" is smaller and allows more of your barbell to show.
Shoe size - I thought it would take more than 20 pounds, but I'm down half a shoe size from a 7 to a 6.5.

You still try to buy clothes at your old size. Looking at clothes in your current size, you think - no way am I going to fit into that. And you do!
That, and selling/donating old clothes that you love and don't want to part with, even though you'll never wear them again.17 -

if losing 50lbs gained 5 inches, there'd be 0 overweight men in the world
2nd that.. I've heard some people gain a bit in that department, but never noticed much change personally.
On a lighter note - does anyone else find irony in the person's username and the post provided?29 -

Me too, it's that feeling of helplessness that gets me. I try so hard not to pity them and look for their strengths instead because I just can't help but think that at one time people saw me like that and probably felt the same way. Even though I was overweight & out of shape, there was so much more to me than just that.
Don't you think they would prefer your respect instead of your pity?
Do you realize how you sound?0 -

I don't know what I feel or why. Maybe I see myself in them? Basically I see someone who doesn't value herself and it is such a personal tragedy. This is all in my head of course. Maybe she is a very happy person.
I wish I had studied psychology in college. My life would probably be easier.
You have no idea what a jerk you sound like. And I'm SO glad you didn't go anywhere near counseling. I'm fat, I value myself and am happy - MUCH more at size 18 than when I was a size 4. I have a lot going for myself and live a wonderful life, and all you see is a tragedy? Talk about body image issues!
Ok. I was a bit harsh, I'm sorry. We all have our issues, and you were just sharing your thoughts. I am getting healthier and thinner every day and I appreciate myself. I was upset that you would see a wonderful, happy, loving person that hasn't yet reached their goal weight and not see anything but their weight.11 -

Down 160lbs I think I'd be frightened if that were true. However...I won't say there isn't a noticeable change12 -

Like I have said twice now...this is ALL in my head. I don't value heavy people any less or more than I do anyone else. I don't know why it is happening, it just is. Lots of emotional stuff going on when you lose weight, for me anyway. I need to figure it out because, logically, it doesn't make sense. I am sorry if you were offended. I didn't mean to do that at all. I was just sharing some experiences I have had and trying to make sense of them. I know you apologized but I wanted to be clear. I never want to hurt anyone's feelings on here.15 -

Coming up on losing 100lbs myself...when do I get my 10" extension?15 -
Well.. Is the mirror thing really a vanity?? Lol.. When your making gains your body is changing in all kinds of ways and it just feels like the mirror is helping me adjust and get to know myself again lol. When your goals get insane it consumes quite a lot of thought. I feel like your always going to check up on your results constantly.. Like a kid on a road trip that's gone on too long.. "are we there yet?" "oh.. (askes again in 2 minutes) lol11

After loosing 105lbs I am still baffled by the following:
- I had to replace all my clothes except the socks
- I still automatically drift towards the plussize section of the store, where nothing will fit me anymore (my jeans went from a size 18 to a 10)
- I was on the elliptical at the gym one day and that smaller room has mirrors on 3 sides. I was going along and looked up. I saw this ladys backside in the mirrors and thought to myself 'she looks pretty good. Hopefully I will look like that some day.' After a moment I realized I was looking at my own backside. The waist long braid gave it away.... lol
- I look in the mirror and still expect to see the 275lbs person every time (I have been 170lbs for the past 3month)
- I do not feel well if I do not exercise
- I have more lines in my face (the fat was hiding them well) at age 5042 -
My face is not symmetrical. I guess I knew this, it's one of the things I noticed when I was a teenager and way too critical of myself but I sort of forgot because my face was so round.
And I am kind of uncomfortable with the "looking good" compliments. I thought I would love it but not so much.6 -

I am not looking forward to this. . . I very much enjoy getting ID'ed at 31. . .5 -
Main things I've noticed in my first two months
1) My shoes got smaller.
2) My entire day revolves around my workout and my meals.
3) I sleep a lot better
4) I drink more water in a day than I used to in about 2 weeks.
5) I literally can't shut up about fitness and eating right, it's become a total obsession.
6) Some days are much harder than others.29 -
I've only lost about 15lbs but so far I'm noticing that the bathtub seems much bigger. I keep slipping down if that makes sense. I think my big fat bum was helping to balance me and now that it's turning into a little toned bum I can't balance..10
