I want to start running, but i am afraid there might be something wrong with my ankle. Whenever i try to run my right ankle gets this horrible pain and I can't even walk after. its usually on the first 5 steps that it happens, and i don't know if I'm doing it wrong or if I have a problem with my ankle. would it be wise to try and strengthen my ankle first? if so how?0

you should prolly wait to start running until after your fractured ankle has been set and pronounced fully healed. you know, by a doctor and everything.

This is definitely something you should see a doctor about. Sudden, intense pain could be a bone chip, a stress fracture, or tendon and ligament problems. Nothing to mess with online.0 -
I am new here, 45 years old I have ALWAYS wanted to be a runner. ALWAYS wanted to run a race. Well I read this today and I have to say I downloaded C25K and went to the gym tonight and I DID IT! Didn't stop and wouldn't let myself think I couldn't do it! I have a long way to go but by the end of the summer I'm going to run my first 5K. Life is to short to sit on the couch and think about it!0

Retired running shoes, yes. Ideally you shouldn't use the running shoes for anything else as it'll lead to inconsistent wear and tear.
They should last somewhere between 300 and 500 miles, so it's not cost effective to reduce their life by using them for other things.

I have a question, how much running is too much running in the beginning, I just started running since Monday started doing 3.2 miles, but got to 4 miles today, the weird thing is I still have energy and my legs are not really sore. Should add more to my routine or should I try doing something extra?0

Yeah, I'd back off a bit. Running is a cumulative stress, so while you feel fine now, you may start to crash and burn after a week or two. If you start to have problems with your eating and sleeping patters, and just feel 'run down', you are already overtrained.0 -

Takin' the big first step is so NOT easy.
I just started back on MFP about a week ago, and have just started the c25k too! I've done 2 days, barely, and my shins hurt after day 2 last Friday. I probably need better shoes, cuz I'm pounding alot of weight. (5'4", 233 lbs). I'm going to try my treadmill to see if that's gentler than the sidewalks and track.
Like you, I've always loved the thought of running. It sounds so freeing to just let go and GO! Not so much at the beginning I've found, lol, but I'd love to get to that point... charging through wooded trails... running 5Ks, 10Ks, halfs...
I feel like running could be the answer for me. Get weight under control, the health issues, self confidence, strength, energy and more.

Hi Gina! You're going to have a great time with C25K!
If you want to keep it up (and it sounds like you do), I'd highly recommend getting fitted for shoes early on so as to avoid injury. It's well worth it and you notice light years of difference!

This is actually really really helpful. I was trail running (pavement and concrete just murdered my lower back) for 8-10 months and I haven't done any running for over a year and I'm looking to get back into it. Any recommendations for transitioning to pavement running? Probably a weird question, but there are no trails to my liking where I live now.0

How do I cool down after the run? Does this just mean, walk a little more? I'm doing the couch to 5k and it gives 5 minutes for cool down. I just used that to walk home from the park. Also, I'm on week 7 of T25 and I'm going to do p90x3 next, can I do both? I love bring outside which is why I just started the running program.0
