What nobody tells you about losing weight

1. My butt and boobs left first-- I had to adjust to that, but my legs look better than they have in years!! Arms, too.
2. Realizing that fast food was what was making me feel so horrible.
3. I can now jog and not feel the fat juggling up and down on my tummy, butt and legs.
4. My thighs don't rub together any longer- I used to use tons of powder - no more!
I was wondering if this would go away! It's so annoying lol and I feel like it's going to give me bad stretch marks from all the bouncing. When did you notice that this got better, if you don't mind me asking?0 -
You can use a regular sized towel when you get out of the shower...and it is one of the best NSVs!
This is my favorite part so far. I can reach into my linen closet and grab any towel, I don't have to go hunting for the larger ones.
Also, I guess because my butt is getting smaller I've actually had to move the seat of my car forward.7 -

I guess the last thing I expected was how much younger I both look and feel lately. I guess I'm not the only one noticing now as I have had quite a few admirers at the gym lately. My Mastercard like priceless moment is the look they give me when I let them know that I'm turning 38 this June. So no Mr. I'm only 25 you can't take me out sometime! Not to mention I'm happily married to a man 5 yrs my junior who seems to think we are like newlyweds again because of my new found confidence. Who knew this would happen?13

With all due respect, as the daughter and niece of longtime wheelchair bound women (advanced MS), you are incorrect in your statement. The only handicapped-related facility that is exclusively for handicapped users (and is thus protected by law) is handicapped parking. Ramps, toilets, elevators, support bars, and so on are available for use by anybody, including the able bodied. They are made available because some handicapped people are not physically able to use the regular facilities or entrances, stairs, etc., but they are not reserved for the exclusive use of disabled people. If the handicap bathroom stall is the only one available, I will use it with no qualms or guilt whatsoever, and I know that my mother and aunt would not begrudge that in the slightest. Now, if there is a disabled lady waiting for a stall, I would certainly leave the handicap stall open for her, but only in the same way as I would encourage an elderly lady to go ahead of me in line. It's common courtesy, not entitlement. I'm sorry, but as one who lives closely with disabled people, I find your attitude disappointing.

In fact I believe the new term for such facilities is "accessible"... not "handicapped". I use accessible facilities if I need to. Sometimes you're hauling a large suitcase or sometimes it's the only one available.5 -
This is actually really weird and probably speaks quite a bit to my former self-esteem, but I realize that when I look in mirrors now I really SEE myself. When I was overweight or while I was gaining all my weight, anytime I would look in a mirror I would squint my eyes and make myself blurry. I don't even think I realized I was doing it after a while. I just couldn't face myself with clear eyes. Talk about denial. Now I do like what I see and can't wait to lose my last 20-30 pounds.
Also, I don't think I'll ever get use to or tire of hearing the people around me at work or my family calling me "skinny Minnie" or tiny or anything of that sort. I still look around and wonder who they're talking about.10 -

This is so true, my mom has double hip replacements and many vertebrae fused. She needs it. I have bad scoliosis and balance issues, as a family with two disabled persons this irks me to no end.
Thank you to both of you for taking something someone has posted on a thread that was aimed to be positive, and being negative about it.
Being a person with a disability, it doesn't bother me whatsoever if I have to wait an extra 30 seconds to use a stall.
To the people who admitted this - I totally understand how you feel.

Sometimes you can lose lots of weight and still be wearing the same clothing. I had to trade in my shoes because they were too big, but my clothing is just kind of loose on me now. In a way it is good because I haven't had to spend extra money on it yet, but it is also bad because I'm still wearing the same old tents.
I had to quote myself because I has an epiphany earlier. I went shopping and saw something I liked so I went to try it on. In the dressing room before I took off my clothing I caught sight of myself in the mirror and I really looked at myself. My clothing looks massive. My jeans look like I'm wearing a sag so deep that if you could see the top of my jeans (you can't, huge shirt) you'd be able to see my underwear. I knew my clothing was a little loose, but I seriously did not notice they were that big. These were the jeans I couldn't fit into before. So, I am amending my earlier statement. You can lose weight and still be wearing the same clothing, but maybe pay better attention to how your clothing is actually fitting versus how you think it is fitting.
I ended up buying clothing that is several sizes smaller and dancing out of the changing room much to the amusement of the attendant.

Similar to this is when I go try on clothes and have to go back for a smaller size....It always looks way to small to fit me and then is too big. I think I was used to hiding in oversized clothes.

I'm struggling for sure. I know my clothes are too big, my manager (a women) said it was time to buy new jeans, but I have this fear that I'm not going to fit into smaller sizes so I just don't even try them on... It makes no sense.

So is anyone else having food dreams? I guess I would've thought that back in the day when I was eating whatever and whenever I would have dreamt about food more. But now because I need to plan more (a good thing) I find myself dreaming about food! Occasionally I wake up with a panicky feeling that I just ate something that blew my calories out for the week!! WTH?
I just think it is strange. I feel more IN control now but my dreams feel more out of control.12 -

It won't take away your problems, but it makes you better able to deal with your problems because you are stronger physically and emotionally. Your self-esteem goes up and you have more confidence. Sometimes that can make a difference in feeling like if you can succeed at something or if you think you are going to fail.11

Lately, I've struggled with some of the ridiculous mental stuff that goes along with weightloss:
1. I sold my entire wardrobe (several times over) of clothes size 16 -26 through a local FB group. Buyers were all curious how I lost the weight and referred to me as "skinny". Really? I am still overweight, people. But I totally understand their perspective as I was at their size and thought my own was unattainable.
2. That selling all my clothes really left a hole in my heart; I loved those clothes and the person I was wearing them. I had some great moments and was a wonderful person before. My skinny friends didn't get how mental it was to get rid of such a part of me! (and I'm not a flake, clothes have always been a source of comfort for me and I'm still adjusting to my empty closet!!!!)
3. Sometimes I avoid talking to people because I don't want to talk about my weightloss. I know that especially after I get a smaller size outfit I get a lot of compliments because I look smaller, and sometimes I just want to be treated like me.
4. HOWEVER, everything I do physically seems so much easier. I am grateful for every morning when I wake up and jump out of bed. For every time I wonder why my leg feels so firm and my wrist feels so small, I am happy with the work I've put in and how it has paid off!23 -

I can really identify with that. I am missing some of the clothes that are now too big for me and looking into having some of them altered. Also, I gave away a lot of my favourite clothes about ten years when I suddenly put on so much weight: I really regret having done that now!

Nobody told me that I have to be my own biggest supporter. My own biggest fan. And that if I didn't want others to belittle, berate, or beat me down for not the greatest choices, then I couldn't do it to myself.
I can't be hoping for affirmations from others or for others to notice.
I didn't know how many people could/would give "back-handed" compliments. Or how painful they would be.
I didn't know how strong, committed, dedicated, and tenacious I am. I do now.33 -
*How light & stronger I feel
*How cold my hands & feet are all the time
*Weight-loss journey=emotional roller-coaster
*Sometimes I feel I haven't lost a pound
*New insecurities
*Constipation still the same
*More energy, no more sluggish feelings
*Learned lots of new recipes

The way the people around me look different. I see people who always looked "average" who now look heavy. It's just my shifting view of what "normal" is.
The way that I can see myself as thin one minute and fat the next.
The way that people tell me I should stop losing weight even when by all measures I have another 12 or more to go.
Ditto on being cold!13 -
My bra rides up all the time. I always had these two rolls hanging off my sides to keep the band in place. Then it was enough loose skin. Now, after lat work and rowing, there is nothing there to hold it anymore. I can't sleep in them anymore, too annoying.5

I had a dream I was at a cupcake tasting party and I ate a bunch of them. I also woke up in a panic. It took me a minute to realize it was a dream8 -
How annoying it actually is to go down a few sizes. I hate buying boring work clothes, but now my work clothes are huge on me. I'm wearing a belt or the pants fall right off. I'm trying to make them last as long as possible so I don't waste a bunch of money. I have one pair in the correct size.
The other thing is that I've been in plus size for a few years now, which pretty much sucks, but I finally discovered a Torrid store. Unfortunately, I'm already down to a 1x there, but I'm afraid there's going to be a huge gap between their size 1X and Hot Topics XL where I'm going to be stuck in boring clothes again. The Hot Topic XL looks quite a bit smaller than the Torrid 0X.
The other thing is that I HATE wasting money. I know that for my own psychological well-being I should get rid of the things that no longer fit instead of holding onto them in the event I grow back into them. But, it really bothers me. It shouldn't, but it does. I thought I would feel happier about it. Kinda odd..5
