The other thing is that I've been in plus size for a few years now, which pretty much sucks, but I finally discovered a Torrid store. Unfortunately, I'm already down to a 1x there, but I'm afraid there's going to be a huge gap between their size 1X and Hot Topics XL where I'm going to be stuck in boring clothes again. The Hot Topic XL looks quite a bit smaller than the Torrid 0X.
The other thing is that I HATE wasting money. I know that for my own psychological well-being I should get rid of the things that no longer fit instead of holding onto them in the event I grow back into them. But, it really bothers me. It shouldn't, but it does. I thought I would feel happier about it. Kinda odd..

I've had no luck with plus size at Goodwill. I can find a bunch starting at around size 14, so at least I'll be able to start using them when I get closer to that size. We go to Goodwill almost weekly anyways, but, usually the plus size stuff is all very worn, pilled and otherwise past its' life expectancy. At least, that's how it is near us. The only thing I did find once was a blazer that was in decent condition and that was definitely worth the $5.99. Otherwise I have better luck at the clearance racks and discounters like Burlington. But, unfortunately I frequently settle for something that fits but isn't a flattering cut or pattern. I won't miss settling!

For your old clothes, since you don't want to just grt rid of them, have you considered selling them? Assuming they're in good shape you could probably find some hirl out there that would be thrilled to have a chance to buy some cute clothes on the cheap (I'm with you on Torrid being way cuter stuff than most plus size clothes)3 -
How most guys notice you more, the more weight you lose. It happened when I lost weight before, and it's happening again lately. Ya'll guys are shallow. Sorry, but it's often true. LOL14

I've noticed that while my female friends will say "you've lost lots of weight" my male friends say "you look well". Which is kind of adorable cos I figure they a) think it's rude to discuss a woman's weight so directly, and b) don't want to sound like they're hitting on me by saying I look "good". I think it's sweet14 -
I get self-conscious when I'm shopping for clothes and the salesperson asks what size I wear. I think they're going to think, "Yeah, right. You wish," when I tell them, like I'm not as small as I think I am. But the clothes do fit, so the insecurity is all in my head...9

This almost made me cry. I remember how I used to get back from school and treating my sore thighs because the friction made my skin bleed. Although my thighs are still huge, the pain is gone and the skin itself is turning into the same colour as the rest of my body. I cannot wait to reach goal weight.
Feel yah. I wore spandex shorts under all my dresses to stop the thigh rub.4 -

No one told me that I would have the irresistible urge to walk around the house naked. On purpose. In front of my boyfriend.23

--That you will find yourself automatically going to the "plus size section" then having to B line it to the average size clothes.
--The clothes that fit you now seem wayyyy too small on the hanger. Almost like they are kids clothes.

About the clothes buying problem. Find a nice thrift store and just buy some nice used clothes and your $$ investment won't be so bad. They also can sell your old clothes to others who need to buy on a budget or who also are. Of ing down in sizes. It's win-win.Kelll12123 wrote: »lemonsurprise wrote: »

hahaha this... My back is bruised from doing workouts on the floor because my shoulder blades stick out so much now.
No one told me how annoying buying clothes could be. It's great when they fit, but I keep going down sizes and needing to buy more and then not having a purpose for the larger sizes.
On a more positive note, I get hit on a lot more. Three different guys asked me out for Valentine's Day this year

They don't tell you that you have to work much harder when you swim your laps. Fat floats...muscle sinks. I am really feeling my workouts this week after going down a couple more pounds.10

Something I've been having a problem with lately...
More than likely you will end up grabbing the wrong sizes when you go clothes shopping... Haha.1 -
What I didn't expect: I no longer suit the type of clothes I used to wear as a big person. I have lost most of my bust and bottom. I can't fill out a dress any more. I need to find a whole new style and shape of clothes to wear, and I'm 51. I don't know where to start.7

Nobody told me that I have to be my own biggest supporter. My own biggest fan. And that if I didn't want others to belittle, berate, or beat me down for not the greatest choices, then I couldn't do it to myself.
I can't be hoping for affirmations from others or for others to notice.
I didn't know how many people could/would give "back-handed" compliments. Or how painful they would be.
I didn't know how strong, committed, dedicated, and tenacious I am. I do now.
This post brought tears to my eyes. I can totally relate. Thanks for writing this.12 -

I am going through this now. Down a total of 111 pounds. I went to the department store and tried on clothes for 3 hours. But now I know what I look good and more importantly feel good in.4 -
That feeling that your mind and body actually WANT to exercise/be physical.....it's no longer a chore, but something you're craving6

Same here, my work clothes are provided for me, but I have to go through such a performance to get smaller sizes its very annoying, ive went from a xxl to a medium over the space of 8 months and to ask for something smaller involves filling in three forms and a meeting with a manager. And personal clothes, in only a few days this week, items that I bought only recently are now too big and dont fit properly, thats another trip to the shops due. Workmates who are also loosing weight think its great, they get my stuff as I change, pity im the one whos the smallest now lol. Gone are the days where I could only shop in one place though, it is a bonus to be able to walk into just about any shop and get something on the rack.8 -

Terrific insight. Congrats to coming a long way!

And clothes are fun to shop for, I go to a second hand shop and come home with a whole new wardrobe! Lots of positives, the only downside, I have one "friend" I've known for years and she's said nothing. Really? I mean complete strangers have commented, cashiers at the grocery, dentist etc, so it's not as if you can't tell I've lost about 40 pounds, I mean I'm barely 5 feet tall! Last time I saw her she was very passive aggressive, laughed because I was wearing a skirt. I've known her since high school and I was always the chubby one, she was tall and slim, but she's not anymore. I realized that my success made her feel like a failure, in her mind. The last time I saw her will be the last time.
Love this^^^ Negative people have no place in your life. Congrats on the 40lbs.6 -
I have never enjoyed exercising in my whole life. Now at 51, I get antsy if I don't exercise and I feel so good afterward. That feeling is so weird to me.
I don't even have to think about whether or not my butt will fit into a seat anymore. This used to be a source of axiety for me. I am going on a plane in August and I am excited about fitting in the seat!

I'm new here, and basically just reading this thread and other threads and came across your post.
I'm sorry, but can you actually tell that someone is or isn't handicapped just by looking at them? Devil's advocate here, but some people who are large do in fact have handicaps that you may not be able to see. Just sayin'.

I was shocked at how angry a few people I thought were friends got about my weight loss.
I'm surprised at how small I've gotten and that I will get smaller before I am done.
I've started to wonder how I'll find clothes at my goal weight, since it was really tough to find a business suit in size 6.
I'm surprised at how happy I am to see myself in the mirror. I really like how I look!8 -
No one told me how absolutely annoying seatbelts would be as they rub my now-sticking-out collar bone practically raw every single day. The only way I can manage to get any relief is to put the seatbelt under my arm so that it can continue to rub my arm and armpit raw instead. I hate seatbelts with a passion now.
But on a much more serious note, what shocked me the most about losing weight was...myself. I've heard that losing weight gives you confidence, but no one told me that weight loss would give me a whole new personality. Being overweight my ENTIRE life, I never realized how much my weight and insecurities affected my personality. I was hiding behind my weight my whole life and I never even knew it. Once the weight came off, the true me that had been hiding for years emerged. And she is radically different from the person I always thought I was! It's been an interesting journey getting to know this new me!45
