Just food for thought. If you lift heavy to develop your musculature, I'm not so sure you can then stop lifting heavy and maintain those muscles with body weight exercises. I'm pretty sure you have to level out by continuing to lift heavy, just with little or no progression. Otherwise you'll lose your booty.

ooooh noooo! thats not good news:(:(:(. I really want to lift my own body weight for the long run ....not dumbbells. So basically I need to choose one or the other:(?

I have been following this post and this my first post..

I think I need to ask you, what is your expectation and the end goal? You need a starting point and end point (of course the journey can change how you get there along the way)..

JoRocka is right. Start lifting now. Get your diet right and you will start noticing gains really soon (within weeks)...

I was a newbie lifter and I started seeing gains right away..

Well my expectation is to see little by little change. Trust me...I get excited and motivated off a little crease so Im quite alright with slow progress just as long as theres progress. My end goal is just to be more lifted, rounded and firm, and have defined muscles (majorly in my stomach shoulders and thighs.
How specific am I being?...Im learning now that though my goals are broad I must be more meticulous (or at least at first) about how Im getting there. (i.e the God forsaken calorie and macro count...uuughhh. such bondage!). I do know I want my waist down to a 23 and my body fat at most a 19%. These are the physical aims. I dont want to jiggle...well a little jiggles not awful *wink* but you know what I mean. And ultimately...look good in and out of my clothes so Im not hiding or tucking away areas of my body lol...or using artificial supports to keep everything in place and smooth. lol. shoo. Though I will admit I no longer wear girdles...I only wear biker tights now.

Its in regards to the person you quoted about losing your booty if you lift heavy than go to body weight exercises.

ah! :) thaaanks. ok so I guess I'll pose this question to everyone since theres a different of opinions. Guys...can i transition from heavy weights to body weight maintaining my muscle gain? I plan to transition once I meet my goal and do not wish to gain anymore....

Glutes have 2 different sets of muscle fibers. One that benefits from heavy weight and low reps and the other fast twitch muscle that build from lighter explosive plyo type

Let's put it this way, why would you believe that's possible? If it takes heavy weights to achieve a certain musculature, and then you dramatically reduce the amount of "work" your muscles are doing, you think they'll magically stay the same size? I don't think so.... When you wish to stop gaining muscle, you stop progressing to heavier weights. You can ease up to some extent and up your reps w the same or slightly lower weight, but you can't just stop lifting heavy entirely unless your goal is a smaller musculature. Edits for typos.

hey guys I finally got a pic. yes I blotted out my face. Not really ready to have my images online like that. And I may delete it from this post soon. This is last year when I was dancing more heavily. hbxqqpx7azbz.jpg

I picked up a bit more fat since then because my schedule got busy and I havent danced as much....barely. But...Ive lost a lot of it and am continuing to tighten up (hence the reason im ready to heavy lift). This is how I am now. Same weight at before picture but about an inch more on the waist and hips

Hmmmm.. All I can add is that there's a woman at my gym that's got a more natural booty like yours, great arms, but a thicker waist (just bc yours is comparatively tiny), and she does machines for upper body and then a very glute-centric lower body routine several days a week. You seem genetically predisposed to having great lower body curves and probably more natural muscle. Maybe you don't need to lift heavy! I've read that a lot of Brazilian women w amazing lower bodies focus on body-weight exercises. If you've got the genes that work for that, then go for it!

The woman at my gym does a lot of very deep squats, lunges, kickbacks, abductions, clamshells. She also does a kind of very deep walking squat thing that looks brutal.

Wow, you look fantastic. Do you have a "before" photo? What program or routine did you do? That tiny waist, those strong legs. A great example of a terrific figure that exudes strength. Good job!!!

i do have a comparative before and after. However the after in my comparative picture I was 6 lbs lighter (149) and my body fat % was a 21. Its definitely not that now. I had just finished boxing and I was dancing CONSTANTLY...dancing more than my first pic and definitely more than now. This was when I initially lost the weight (3 years ago)8thpofo9b7qn.png

@CarlydogsMom I also used herbalife which I refuse to use ever again though it cut my fat down drastically. Now that I eat real food and mostly plant based my fat % is dropping well...just slower.

So jealous of your ratio. Unfortunately for me, I've never had nor ever will have a small waist. I'm genetically built to store fat in my mid section. I would probably have to get to an unhealthily low body fat percentage to even have a six pack showing (correct me if I'm wrong, I know y'all will anyway). But, for sure I will never have an "hourglass" waistline. I'll just have to content myself to getting a flatter stomach as I progress along my fitness plan.

thank you but you DEFINITELY can get abs. a 6 pack is hard to achieve regardless but thats just about getting rid of the fat (as you have stated) so that your abs can show. Once you get to your lower body fat percentage (or even now) work your stomach muscles so that they are more visible. Some people just have to work harder on that core but by nature we are to have strong cores if nothing else:). No worries.

While you're jealous of my waist I am jealous of your legs. I know your body type and you all always have the best shapely and muscular legs without even trying.

Thanks for posting the pics. Funny, I didn't realize you were the OP (duh...). Really amazing transformation! And, may I say that I don't think you need to worry about losing your POW or BAM by lifting heavy....

You have a great shape OP. I don't think you really need to worry about losing it unless you lose a significant amount of weight (like 20lbs).
