Honestly none of us here can tell you anything for sure because no matter how adamantly people here insist they're always right, they're not your doctor. obviously most of the information you've been offered in this thread is correct on a general basis but nobody can say for sure what is wrong in your specific case. you need to speak to a medical professional, or a therapist, or someone who can actually give you accurate and valuable advice. We don't know you or how much of what you say is true, we dont know your medical history or anything else about you, so some of the responses here could be right or they could be completely off the mark, but you'll never know until you seek real medical help from a real professional.

Thanks! It's the best advice yet I have actually talked to her and she told me to go on basically the atkins diet log EVERYTHING I eat also that I have a thyroid issue and a small metabolic disorder. After my father died I just stopped caring about anything and food was one of those things.

The best advice yet is the person who told you to ignore everyone else and that it's okay for you to think you can gain 45 pounds drinking 2 glasses of milk a day?

    Okay then.

Yeah thats not what I said but sure you go on putting words in my mouth.

You said none of us can tell her anything for sure. But we can. It's impossible to put on weight if you aren't eating.

OP, try this. Don't go on the Atkins diet. It won't help you lose weight until you figure out exactly how many calories you're consuming. Eat your normal diet for a week and log everything. Every single thing. Use a food scale for everything but liquids, and carefully use measuring cups for those. Everything. In grams. Salad dressings, ketchup, cream, mayo, EVERYTHING. At the end of your week, see how many calories you've been consuming. If you really aren't eating at a surplus, you need to see your doctor again, but I'm willing to bet it will be eye opening for you.

So where did I say it was fine for her to think she can gain 45 lbs on a diet of basically nothing?

I even said "obviously most of the information you've been offered in this thread is correct on a general basis". Not you or anyone else here is her doctor, so like I said, none of us know for sure what the real issue with the OP is. It might be that shes eating more than she thinks, it might be a genuine medical condition, it might be any number of things. But going on to a public forum and asking for medical advice from a bunch of internet strangers is not going to solve her problem.

She didn't ask for medical advice; she asked why she wasn't losing weight even though she doesn't eat. People said this is impossible, and they are correct.

Not surprising that someone says the best advice is pretty much the person not telling the OP that they are doing something wrong. So OP, I guess since that's the advice you were looking for I guess this thread is done?

Thats not what I said either, you're being ridiculous. Its quite obvious that something is wrong with the OP, whether its her own doing or whether she's being completely honest and its something medical. But I'm sorry that I'm not going to sit here and diagnose a person I've never met over the internet.

So maybe its mental? Maybe she needs therapy? Who knows aside from her doctor/therapist?

ok I agree she needs to weigh everything and log it but,Im going to put this out there. my daughter was the same way, never hungry and didnt eat much food. most days it was under 1200 calories. she kept gaining weight even though she was barely eating, BUT, come to find out she has hyperthyroidism and insulin resistance(but not diabetic yet). she has only lost 14 lbs since april 2nd. she is on low carb and 1200 calories and some days she struggles to eat that much food. so yes it is possible to gain weight when you have health issues and arent eating enough food.my daughter sees an endocrinologist because of all of it. I know a lot of you said that its not possible but it is. you can also have insulin resistance and not know it. she has had it for years and all her blood work would come back normal until recently.

Wow I asked for advice on why I'm never hungry! I didn't asked to be bashed or made go feel like crap! I'm depressed enough as it is I don't need people I don't know calling me a liar or anything else! I have been to the doctor I DO have medical conditions! I am hoping to see a specialist because the thought of food makes me want to puke! I'm forcing myself to eat breakfast everyday which is a HUGE start for me especially this past year. When I used to log on here at the end of the day it would always tell me I'm not eating enough calories and in two weeks I would weigh the same. So obviously me not eating enough is a problem. And I opened up my journal if there is a way to view it then view it!

And you would be 110% correct :) I got fat because I ate too much even though if you asked me I probably would have said I didn't eat that much. It wasn't just about the amount though it was the food that I was eating. Sure I can say all I ate was some guacamole and chips but is that an entire bowl of guac and a bag of chips? I would say I was probably pounding the entire bag but hey, I practically ate nothing all day :D If you said to me I was probably gaining weight because I ate too much that wouldn't be a diagnosis, that would be a simple fact LOL

I'm not going to say she has a mental problem. She does seem to either having logging issues or is in denial.

And not once did I ever deny that that was a possibility. My point was that none of us are able to accurately tell her whats going wrong because we don't know her, how truthful any of her posts are, the details of her diet, her medical history, etc etc. So if she's looking for a quick solution to her problem, she's not going to find it here. The most she can get here is general advice and possible solutions, but whether or not they apply to her is not something you or I could say for sure.

i have my share of medical issues
I hold water too....a lot ( i gain of one dinner out almost 8 pound and that was not just one time ...almost every time i eat out and get to much salt bammmmm water weight)
    I am never hungry also

    Still i eat

And i gained weight because i ate to much

So you can go to a doctor yes you can go on Atkins...you can restrict yourself from food groups
    It doesn't matter at all.

It comes down (which ever way you choose it) to eating less calories than you burn.

The simple way for me to do that ( with my medical conditions i add no salt at all and i am carefull with adding sugar and yes i still eat fruit....a lot) is to WEIGH ALL YOUR SOLID FOODS ON A FOOD SCALE AND LOG THEM.... and measure your liquids ( only the liquids that contain calories)
Fill in the MFP settings and goals and eat around your calorie allowance number.

Count what you eat a day and create a deficit ( so eat less calories than you burn)

That is really the only way to lose weight. Now your medical conditions, your deficit, and some other factors will determent how much to lose and how fast lose.

You can deny, you can choose other options
But its your journey, your body, and your health

How much do you want this, there is no easy way out......you gained it. Now this is the way to lose

Be honest to your self because your body is the perfect calculator of every calorie you eat.
It doesn't care if you are hungry or not, over eat, under eat etc. It counts and dont lie about the intake.

Thanks! It's the best advice yet I have actually talked to her and she told me to go on basically the atkins diet log EVERYTHING I eat also that I have a thyroid issue and a small metabolic disorder. After my father died I just stopped caring about anything and food was one of those things.

Are you saying I'm the one who's calling you a liar? Because I feel like I'm sticking up for you if anything... I'm sorry if you feel bashed, I feel bad if I made you feel that way.. Its good that you're seeing a specialist though, I hope you can get some real answers and figure out how to continue on your weight loss and health journey.

No I don't think you are!

I think logging is a great idea and you should keep that up for at least a couple of weeks then reassess

But weigh everything ...not 0.8 of a serving but how much you ate in grammes

I'm just going to stay off of here I've already cried twice I asked for advice not to feel worse about myself then I already do.

@OP. Log everything by weight for a week in your diary, and then ask your original question again. Forum members will be able to give better advice when we can see what you eat.

Without much information available, we are all guessing what your situation may be.

No one is trying or wants to make you cry. But we would be able to give better advice if you logged your food properly for a while. Give it a go for a few weeks weighing everything and see how you do.

OP, what medical conditions do you have? Are you taking medication for them?
