Sylvia, did the "trainer" kick your dog, or put her knee up when she jumped? Putting the knee up is a very common training tool, and usually doesn't injure the dog at all. But whippets are so small boned, it may bruise with them. Poor puppy. It is so tough when a tender hearted animal goes through something like this.

She later claimed that she meant to bump her with her knee. But somehow she actually connected her foot with Molly's ribs HARD! Everybody in the training class gasped and two other people rushed over to see if they could help. It was scary. I thought her ribs were broken because it hurt her so much to be touched, so I had her exrayed to be sure nothing was broken. The instructor told me I was babying her. She told the class that sometimes a hard headed dog needs a little kick, but she hadn't meant to kick her THAT hard. And I had met with the teacher before signing up for the class and asked about her training methods. She assured me that she only used positive reinforcement. And yes, eight years later she is still working for parks and rec running dog training classes. I have heard from others that she kicked other dogs too.

    Happy Sunday ! ! !

Today it was me, Dad, and Payne for brunch at Milwaukee Moose. I will attach a picture later, because I do better typing on my laptop, but better at posting pictures from my phone. I am still 2 pages behind, so my apologies. I will try to catch up soon, but no promises, as I still need to pack for Tuesday.

Nancy - Thanks for the link for the quiz. I think my computer is blocking it, because I keep getting sent in circles without a quiz. I will try it from work soon.

Poop - Congrats on your improved run time. Good luck with the 10k next time. I agree that the other woman's quads (actually entire leg) are way too skinny. Nice that yours have shape.

JanetM - My information only came from 1 type of source, Nutritionists, and it may have been specific to the way she was hoping to improve my food/beverage intake. I have no intentions of stating that anything/anyone is wrong. With my family history, I need to worry about my bone health, and with my RA, my rheumy doesn't really want me to drink coffee at all, because of the possible "Allergy Inflammation" that it may cause. I don't even count my juice or milk in my fluid, as I just keep hoping the added water will help curb my hunger. I did my best to log my food anyway this weekend, because I start another "vacation" on Tuesday, and I don't know how well I will be able to guess the food I eat from the vendors. I will do my best to stay away from complex carbohydrates and fats, and continue to drink as much water as I can afford (probably about $4 per bottle, so we'll see what happens).

Kari - Hugs for your back. I remember the days that I needed to crawl to the bathroom. I'm glad you have hubby there to help. You can do this !

Miriam - Hugs for everything regarding your cousin. How wonderful that he had you to care for him in those ways.

Michele - lol about the bathing suit liner. Bet it feels much better now.

Patsi - Hugs for your Dad. My Dad would be honored to surrogate for you - he's kind-hearted that way. Anytime you need a hug from him let me know. Here's a {{{{{{big bear hug}}}}} from him now.

I only ate eggs and ham and 2 slices of bacon at brunch. Will focus on fruits, vegetable, and water the rest of the day. I watched quality yesterday, and stayed real close to calories, so I'm happy about that. Plus, all that walking around the Casino ( free comedian was VERY funny, so I'm sure we burned plenty of calories from laughing) gave me almost 2 miles for the day, which is really good for these tired old knees. Today DH wants to watch the Twins for awhile, then we will all go to my work to work-out. Then we are meeting any of the baseball players that want at the batting cages. DH has "plans" for DS, since he hit so poorly Friday night. Hopefully we can get Payne to bowl a few games, too, since the alley is right across the street from the batting cages.

Now, time for my afternoon tea (loose rooibos chai).

    Hugs for Everyone ! ! !

LisaH: Glad you're enjoying the site. I'm going to try to up my protein to at least .8/1 kg per pound for at least a couple of weeks and see how I do/feel. I think I'm going to need to buy protein powder (whey) to make that happen. I thought the site was well written too, I finally understand how to calculate grams etc. Whew...it was all gibberish to me before.

Jen: You're welcome! Our Dad's must be twins

Happy Father's Day, Everyone. Glad to read your posts and see that you're all doing well. Wishing happy visits for all who are celebrating with Fathers and families today.

After eating very little yesterday and exceeding my exercise plan, the scale is down this am. I've now lost 10 lbs. during the past month. Finally moving beyond the hated plateau and in the right direction, but had to force it to cooperate. I can definitely relate to how difficult and frustrating it is sometimes when we work hard but don't see the results or hit a plateau.

Just -1.4 lbs more and I'll officially no longer be in the dreaded obese category. I was very slender until my thyroid and hormones crashed going menopause. Unfortunately, I quickly gained 70 lbs! (from 115 to 185 and even 199 at a temporary high point). One month ago, I weighed 185. This morning, I'm now at 175.4. As a previously slender person, who would have ever guessed that I would say this: It feels great being very close to the next lower bmi category of 'overweight'!

I too eat more protein than recommended and lots less carbs and it works for me. We are all different and really do just have to find what works for you and stick with it. Let us know how it goes.

Welcome, you've certainly come to the right place. This is a wonderful group. They encourage when needed, kick in the rear when needed and celebrate with you when you celebrate. If you sign your first name at the end of each post we can more easily identify and respond to you.

todays joke may be a repeat:

    :)

A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the other end.

After an hour of gathering up his courage he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, "Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?"

To which she responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!"

By now, the entire bar is staring at them. Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table.

After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a graduate student in psychology and I'm studying how people respond to embarrassing situations."

To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean $200!"

    Good joke!

Another Father's Day! DH got a new shirt and some sort of thing he can wear on his head and it will cool his head when he starts to sweat.

I think I did pretty good on my tracking. Eyeballed everything I tried; and maybe I will add enough extra for anything I did not get to measure - was at my DnL's mother's house - so I could not do it.

Thundering, so the pool is out of the question, unless it blows over. Doubt that. No exercise for me today; so I am going to read some.

I've heard the trainer will 'knee' them so they will learn how to 'heel' and not be touching the person walking them. My sister took her Brittney Spaniel to a former Marine dog handler. Dog was so hard-headed and stubborn, she would be walking my sister sometime running. After 6 - 8 weeks of training she could walk her off the leash on a very busy street (Alton Road) in Miami. She said it was the 'best money' she had ever spent; and he was pretty hard on the dogs (and owners).
