I’ve decided to share my weight loss story in hopes that it will help someone who is struggling with their weight and trying to live a healthier lifestyle.

In the last 4 years I have lost 135 lbs. Before starting my journey I was 270 pounds, almost type 2 diabetic, and I was morbidly obese. I was depressed and miserable in my own skin. I coped with life by taking medications and self-soothed with food and candy. Medications and doctor’s appointments became my life. I became extremely addicted to prescriptions. My weight and lifestyle were slowly killing me, and I didn’t see it until I had a BIG reality check 4 years ago. That is when my life changed. I knew it was time to change and started to rebuild my life. I decided on my own that I wanted this. I knew it was going to be hard, but I was ready to fight for it. I wanted to be healthy, I wanted to be happy again, and I wanted to be the wife and mother my family deserved. Those things combined gave me the final push I needed to change my lifestyle.

I didn’t follow a specific program or go through weight loss surgery. I swapped all my sugar loaded drinks for water, started tracking my food, and added exercise into my daily routine. Adding exercise was just the mental boost that I needed. Every time I exercised I would feel balanced and happy, and for the first time I was proud of myself! I wanted to change my lifestyle so this would become a permanent way of life. I started with small, achievable goals so I didn’t get overwhelmed with how much weight I still had to lose. Honestly, when I started I was exhausted just walking around the block. In September 2014 I finished my first half marathon!

Having support has been a huge part of my journey. My husband has been amazing through this whole process. He started tracking his food first, and I was inspired by him! I watched as he started dropping pounds, and I decided it was time to track my food! Tracking held me accountable, and I needed that! He also helped me find healthy foods to eat, and put up with all my complaining when we first started exercising together :)

I hit a plateau after losing 100 pounds. I joined a small, family owned gym and I discovered a whole new passion for fitness. I reached out and found other ladies to work out with at the gym. We encourage each other, hold each other accountable, and have fun! When one of us struggles, we help each other. I started personal training and improved my strength, lost more weight, and melted away body fat. I have been able to accomplish things I never thought possible, and I have learned to believe in myself! As the pounds have dropped I feel like I have shed emotional baggage with them. My old life melted away 1 pound at a time. Please know that weight loss is a journey and it takes time. If I can do this, you can do this! I finally have my life back and I feel great!

    Tips:

    Track your food… everyday!
-Don’t drink your calories… Drink water instead (lots of water!)
-Get up and move! Even if it’s 10 minutes a day… get some exercise! Anything is better than nothing!
-Eat your veggies, the greener the better!
-Add protein into your diet. Chicken, Turkey, and Tilapia are some of my favorites.
-Limit your sugar… and if you have sugar, do it in the morning.
-Don’t let yourself get hungry, and don’t get to full…
-Prep as much food as you can on your weekends… it’s easier to make healthy choices that way!

Holy he1l. What a transformation! You look amazing and should be SO PROUD of your accomplishments!

I have a question, while you seem to feel super great, I wonder if you still have, for lack of a better term, a "fat complex"? I've read that people who have lost a ton of weight, who were used to being overweight, took a while to adjust to being "thin" and still struggled with seeing themselves in a new light. Did you deal with this at all at any part of your journey?

Thanks for sharing your story!

Thank you sooooo much for sharing! I'm more than half way to my goal and your story really gives me hope that i WILL get to that goal...down 58 pounds with 36 left to go! I love that you point out strength training...I have the same opinion, get it started early on...it made a world of difference for me and I wish I had started it from the beginning. Thanks again for showing me it can be done!!! You are a rock star!

@kryss247 Of course you can add me! :)@purpleposies I did suffer from "fat complex" for a long time. It took me awhile to realize that I didn't need to head to the plus size section of the store. Sometimes I have to look at current pictures to really wrap my head around my weight loss. It's a welcomed adjustment though. I wouldn't go back to my old way of life if someone offered me a million dollars!

Can I ask you a question? ? I don't eat a lot of fruits and vegetables how do I change that

you can turn fruit into smoothies with greek yogurt and sweetener (or not each to their own i used to but slowly reduced and dont use it at all now). Veggies are great cut in to batons and dip into reduced fat houmous or low fat mayo based dips or hide them in soups, thats what i did to get the hubby to eat veg, also green beans and lettuce taste great with crispy bacon just watch the calories on that one.

Also op well done on you're weight loss!

Thanks for sharing your amazing transformation. Your journey is truly inspiring and a much needed reminder to keep going. I'll get there if I work hard and keep track of the food I eat. Cutting back on sugar and carbs has been my biggest challenge lately so any tips you have for that would be appreciated.

@LadyLots2Lose Hi!! Cutting back on sugar and carbs is hard, but totally possible! At first it's horrible... I had a very hard time giving up my bread. Today I can't stand bread... I feel so sick and bloated when I eat it! I had to train my mind when it came to food. Lettuce wraps for sandwiches are okay!! Once I realized I wasn't depriving myself, and I was actually making healthier choices it made it easier. Food is such a mental struggle! Keep your protein up so you stay full throughout the day... I know when I am hungry I crave sugar. I try to keep myself sorta half full all day long, I eat 6 small meals a day... Other than that of you can just push through the first month it gets easier!!

I literally cried reading your story and looking at your amazing pictures. You are truly inspiring. I have about 60 lbs to lose. I go to a metabolic specialist bc my meds slow my body down. Tomorrow is my 1st weigh in. But looking at you makes me want to keep trying. Eating healthy and exercise. I do my best. Thank you for sharing your story.

You are truly an inspiration! I just started 20 days ago.. Had an off day yesterday.. I snacked too much..and I ate foods that were higher in fat find calories. Until then I was doing good.. Trying not to let it bother me. Did you let yourself have those "cheat days" I'm trying to make it a lifestyle change. How did you handle it if and when you are more than planned? I log it all no matter what! Mentally after a day like that it can be hard to stay on track. I am determined to get myself healthy! After reading your post I feel inspired to keep going! I am 63 lbs away from my goal. Thank you!
