Using Bento Boxes for lunches.

Just put some water in the box and leave it on it's side for about an hour to test. If it doesn't have a rubber seal, I generally don't trust that something will be water tight.
Growing old is easy, growing up is optional. Nothing wrong with cutsey boxes for yourself. Most people posting in this thread would probably agree.0 -
My husband is such a sweetie !! When I got up this morning he wispered "Don't forget your lunch, it's in the fridge". I go get it and just assume it's in baggies and such. Nope , he did it Bento style !! I was just happy and feeling love when I thought he just threw me something together so I wouldn't have to eat fast food. When I got in the lunch bag at work and saw he put in some thought to try and do like he saw me doing over the last week , it made me cry !!!! Lol ! I'm one lucky woman !
He packed a bottle of Kombucha, then fruit & nuts for 1st snack, a corn beef wrap with sweet peppers & hummus for lunch, plus Thai Chili meatball & energy bites. All for 825 cals.0 -

Aww. He's a keeper for sure!
I don't know if I'll get to bento this week or not. It's been a crazy week and the food I have hasn't been bento-worthy.

I keep pawing my bento stuff, which is packed away, sides for one lunch box. I fix hubby lunch today, only for his boss to take him out to lunch >.> Leftover cheese broccoli & chicken rice. Forgot to take a picture, boo boo!
I can;t wait to try out some of these lovely ideas. I am still here, just lurking away.0 -
I got home from work , an my husband said your package came. I was confused because I didn't order any thing. I opened it up and Holy Bento !!! My baby got me the red bunny bento box I was debating with myself over; I wanted it , but didn't need it. I don't know if he's being more supportive , or if my attitude is different. All my other diets I've felt like he was alway trying to sabatage me, this time around he's doing everything he can to help me along. I ask him why he bought it , when I didn't need it ? He said "This has seemed to help your motivation. You seem like you're so giddy over these little container. Normally when you're trying to lose weight you're a little crabby and short tempered. If they'll keep you happy and going in the right direction , I'll buy you 10 more !!!! " that's twice today that man has made me cry !!! Lol !

Bahaha, the thought of my husband doing that... it's one of the 6 impossible things I think of before breakfast. He's quite happy to eat any onigiri I make though. Makes your husband awesome!
Today I have red wine vinegar chicken. It's been ages since I made it. Nomnomnomnom! ^_^

Awesome! You know you're gonna have to learn how to make rice bunnies now to go with your box, right?0 -

Ya , I've got a lot to learn ! Lol ! Tried to make my own sushi , it just fell apart. So I bought some for tomorrow's Bento. There has to be a trick to the rice , mines to light and fluffy. I have the bunny egg mold, can I use that ?0 -
That bento is so cuuuuute.0

I don't think the bunny egg mould would quite work tbh. As to the rice, it depends on what type of rice you're using, and of course how you cook it. As always, I refer to Makiko from Just Bento; she has a great article on how to cook Japanese rice. After that, it's just wet hands and creativity0 -
Thanks for the link, mangrothian ! I'm going to get lost in that site for hours !!! Owww , what fun ! I started laughing when it said " rice should not be FLUFFY! " lol ! I new I wasn't doing something right, now I know I'm buying the wrong rice.0

I really want to post a Shokugeki no Soma gif of people tasting food so good that their clothing explodes off (tastefully of course), but I'm sure that wouldn't be good for people who look at this thread when they're at work. So instead, a gif of what I imagine said magical soboro would look like...
ETA I did leave the other gif attached at the bottom of the post though0 -
I read the manga, and the differences between the manga/anime confused me too much to go past episode 1... xD Though the reactions were hilarious. If only SB updated as often as Shokugeki no Soma. Dx0

Interesting...
I went to the local asian grocery store with the goal of seeing if they had cute bentos and to get rice. Ended up with neither. Will have to order online when I have the funds for the bento boxes cause the cuter ones are all online, even saw a penguin one though hard to pass up anything cat or Kiki's Delivery Service. I couldn't figure out which rice to buy, so will have to get some next time.
I did get some random frozen things to try (shrimp balls cause protein and some bean paste filled items), strawberry cakes, couple other snacks, the rice crunch rolls that I saw on this thread and Hello Panda. I haven't had the panda treats in like 15 years, though how we had any in small town wyoming is beyond me. Will have to make due with my one purple eco-one box for now and put together a lunch for Thursday. Maybe even post pictures.0 -

The normal lunchboxes and gladware are actually better to start with IMO, reason being that everyone prefers a different sized box, and packing lunches in a few different cheaper containers of different sizes means you'll know what size bento box you'll want. I have some awesome ones at home that I never use just because they're so freakin' huge.
As to the rice, if you want to make rice balls or sushi rolls, you need medium grain sushi rice (koshihikari is the type I use, but I know in the US there are other types that are grown). Not all us bento-ers use rice anyway; it's whatever your taste buds prefer.0 -

I never read the manga for this one, but makes me glad I hadn't. The food porn and reactions are magnificent. And I also read Baby Steps and Chihayafuru which is just as slow as SB. Master of patience right here.

Me is a sad Panda because no Bento this week...because i got some coupons for the restaurant here at the Uni Campus where I work as a present from coworkers. It is enough for a few meals so i will use them first to save some money^^ (So i guess i am a sad but also kinda happy panda^^)0

I'm just a fan of rice in general and want to get better at making sushi rice. I just never can figure out which one to buy and it's not in English at the store. So many options, I should do a little research first. I have plain plastic containers already but they are in need of replacing as I've been trying to prepare a little more ahead of time instead of last minute. I do know I need not huge ones because I only get 30 minute lunch breaks and I'm a slow eater. Plus, I'd buy ones that aren't expensive anyways, just would be nice to have a cute box or two.0 -

lol, when buying bento boxes, rarely does one stop at buying just two....
.... you've had fair warning0
