Sharon, why is it that it is so difficult for men to release their feelings in a healthy way?? Charlie is the same way. He will keep them all buttoned up somewhere in his brain and then just fly off the handle and I have noclue as to what is going on.

Allison, unfortunately I haven't done that much today besides ride the bike a little and the walking and climbing stairs I do at church. You see, today was the last day of the PGA championship tourney and of course we had to watch our favorite young man play. Didn't win. Is that an excuse to not exercise? No. I could have been sitting on my bike all day long, pedaling slowly or good speed. No I am making excuses for myself where I really have no excuse. Plus I haven't read the newspaper in about 4 days and tomorrow is trash pick up day for us. Another excuse. Yep, you beat me.

Miriam, I am unplugging my dust buster right now. It's sitting here right beside me and we haven't used it in awhile. OOPS, you said dust buster was safe. OK, plugging it back in.

Heather, at first i thought you were saying that your doctor was disabled. Got it now.

Linda, IA, can you imagine what your daughters are talking about in the car behind you. One hting they are probably saying is that you are driving to slow. When our DD#2 went off to college she said it was always her dream to be driving a car that was full to the brim and everyone who saw her driving down the interstate would be saying that they bet she is going to college.

Lenora, for us to do our kitchen, I want us to be prepared to gut it. But as it is right now, we would have to borrow from one of our retirement accounts. We have done that before and you can either pay it back or you just have a less amount in the account. But in 3 years Charlie has to take a mandatory payout so I guess I will just have to wait until then. Maybe then avocado green will be back in style!!!!! :) I an't imagine shipping a dog either. Now if you are moving overseas I guess you would have to do it.

Pip, what are you feeding you dogs there? Why is one muzzled and who is holding them 'cause I'm sure that is not you or Kirby. I don't think those are your legs. Lots of dogs!!!! Sometimes you just have to listen to your body. Not the brain who really wants to do something but your body.

Barbie, is there a tech place that could help you and Jack figure out your Windows 10? Are there any classes for senior citizens at a library or senior center? Or maybe even a college. With it just out and lots of people haveing the same confusion there has to be a class somewhere.

Heather, DGD's shoes look like the kind that light up when you walk, or run or bounce on furniture or off walls or Grandpa. I have learned that if they have light up shoes, they will invent an opportunity to make sure everyone sees them.

Penny, sure glad to 'see' you back. So sorry about your Mom but it sure sounds like she is one tough lady. Glad she is doing OK and you all made a bad situation better by singing and having fun. Singing is medicine to the soul, it just makes your heart feel happy. When my Dad had his second open heart surgery, the doctors said he was doing fine, they let us in to see him and he was OK for about an hour or so. Then, in my opinion, he died. Well some doctors have a God complex and just don't want to accept that. Plus is was on a Friday and the on call doctor was on call at that time, not his surgeon. My parents had an extremely happy and wonderful marriage and life. They didn't have much but their faith in God, us kids and love. But it was enough. At that hospital, the open heart family waiting room was the surgery waiting room and all the surgeries were done for the day and weekend. So we had the whole place to ourselves the waiting room and private consultation room. The entire family was there, all 17 of us. We had always been a favorite of the volunteer staff of the hospital so they came in on the weekend and helped take care of us. Those who had sleeping bags brought them, others just made do all the chairs and sofas in the waiting room. At this time my daughter was so our future SIL was part of the 17. He was a youth minister then. He also loved to play the guitar and sing. Everyone of us sang. I also had a brother who was a preacher. But he was also a grieving son. So my son in law kind of kept us together. He led nightly devotions, a small version of church service on Sunday Morning and played his guitar and we just kept singing and praying all weekend. We had some pretty small kids there so their Moms took them to hotels or our houses when they needed to. But it was a very meaningful experience for us all, especially to our Mom. She put her recliner right next to the post open heart wall and kept her hand on that wall as much as she could. By Sunday, other families had heard of what was going on in the waiting room and joined us. I think they mainly joined us because they needed that fellowship also. You telling about you all in her room singing and drawing other people into your circle reminded me of that long weekend. On Monday we finally convinced the surgeon to take him off life support and the second they turned the machine off he died. That really helped us realize that DAd died on Friday, the doctors just wouldn't let him go on their watch. I have since found out that any patient that dies on their watch affects their 'morbidity' rating on reviews. made me so mad.

0067808, welcome. No time is weird, that's the wonderful thing about the internet. We have some one from Greece, several in UK, a couple form Australia. One time we had all the flags up here to represent all the countries that are represented here. Oh, we also have our girl from Norway.

Becca, it sounds like you had a blissful marriage. Those are rare.

Chris, you are rocking that outfit! Did you stay in that villa that is pictured? Now my daughters would have tried to find some way to take that lizard home with them!

Sylvia, what a great 'girls day out'. You are making so many memories for those children. Well, you also! Wonder what their Mother thinks of what you do in their life and all that you do for them. I am sure that they talk about you all the time.

DJ, safe travels back home and then collapse!

Today was Trinities birthday, she is 14 years old. Can't believe it. I have told you all that they either text or do face-time with me. I can call my daughter at work but I really can't just call her. So they let me know what time they were home so we could face-time her. They took her sister and Trinity and 3 best friends to eat and then movie. So it was about 6 PM. Christina thinks I like o see my grand kids instead of seeing her when she face-times me. But Ellie is one big wiggle butt. She won't sit still, is giggling all the time and is basically kind of tiring sometimes. I love her to pieces but to a 65 year old woman it is hard. So Trinity is on the screen and here come Ellie, getting her face in as much as she can, giggling, trying to hold the iPad and in doing so the picture is going up and down. Sometimes I just want to see my daughter or Trinity. I enjoyed talking to them but it wasn't a nice restful pleasant conversation. I am going to have to suck it up and tell Christina that Ellie makes it difficult to have a good conversation.

Church was good today. The choir sang a song that was more contemporary than I like but it was good and a lot of the choir likes to sing that and the young people in the church liked it and I guess it is needed for the church to keep them interested in coming. Next week is a song more to my liking. I am usually in the front row but today they had all 3 of the low altos sing with the tenors so we were in the second row. I never realized how tall the preachers wife is!!!! I could hardly see the director. Quite a few people asked it I had brought Algernon to church with me. Well actually I forgot to take the box out of my purse so I told them that I did and opened up so they could 'see' my invisible pet flea. So one of the men squashed him!!!!

    Love you all, Joyce, Indiana

Hello all....thank for the support! Most of you seem like you are so far far away.....anyone from Australia out there? Where I live we are just coming out of a very cold miserable winter. I was fortunate that I broke my ankle while it was winter..... My hubby has been wonderful and my mum who is 83 has taken to cooking for me and visiting every day! I had most of my boys (I have four) and their wives plus several of our grandchildren (we have 9) up yesterday. Great day had by all.....anyway I am exhausted after my first day of walking(not sure if that is what you could call it but I was vertical). I even made some bean and lentil soup (I'm a vegetarian) and enjoyed a big bowl for lunch...I'm working so hard to cut out the sugar and other white foods.
Hope you all have a successful day today! Marg F

    Hi, all...

I feel as if I've had my head buried in this restaurant forever, but today is actually exactly one month. Thank you all for your continuing support on it. Tomorrow is the second GM walkthrough, and while it won't be perfect, it will be very, very different. The DH and I spent Saturday there, unclogging drains, and Sunday at our warehouse.

The DH tore a muscle in the outside of his left shoulder (thank goodness, non-dominant hand) on Friday, throwing tires from a truck to a trailer. So we were both a little cranky when we had to take the power plumbing snake up to the restaurant Saturday. Why do men take it so personally when they get hurt? If I'm nice to him, he doesn't like it, and if I ignore it, he doesn't like that either. :hushed: Can't win THAT one. Finally told him he was being a butthead, and he settled down.

Anyway, yesterday, we decided to go see what we could accomplish at the warehouse--and while the DH was one-handing the gas-powered weedeater, a truck pulls up. A guy asked us for $150 to bushhog the entire acre. I bargained him down to $125... and paid $140 after he finished. He went and got his Kubota tractor with a blade and bushhog (bushhog--for the uninitiated--is a mower attachment to a tractor that will basically go through everything up to a small tree. If you can run over it, you can cut it down.) He did in four hours what would have taken us four weeks, if not more, since we're only able to put in one weekend day, on average, each week. Especially with the DH being at half efficiency. While he was doing that, we cleaned up around the edges and started spraying weedkiller on what had just been cut. It was still a lot of work, but looks so much better. A little moth-eaten! But better. I'll take before/after pics, I swear, but not until we paint the place.

So, we accomplished something. One thing at a time.

Four days... we leave for the plane by noon, Friday, will be in Montana by nine p.m. (three-hour drive to Midland, TX, airport, one connecting flight later...) and we will be back late night the following Thursday. So looking forward to even just one morning where I wake up NOT thinking about the restaurant. In the meantime... I've got to jump in the shower and try to get in early enough to get discounts figured out and get them set up before I leave.

    Have a grand week, peeples!
    Regards from sunny West Texas...

Lisa, I'm so happy for you! You've accomplished a ton in a short time.

Hi, Marg! East coast of the U.S. here. It's still hot, but not as stinking hot as I remember eastern Virginia summers being when I was here 20 years ago.

I'm doing the before-the-prep prep for my colonoscopy on Wednesday. I realized on Saturday that I'd been telling myself that it's going to be awful, so I told myself to CAN IT!!!! I changed my eating habits (sadly waving a temporary goodbye to my almond butter, chia seeds, spinach, whole wheat bread, etc. etc) starting on Saturday, and will do all liquid on Tuesday before drinking "The Solution" starting Tuesday evening.

I did a good kettlebell workout this morning, and I'm at work getting ready to have a lovely cup of coffee. A sweet lady from church and her husband started a coffee roasting company shortly before she passed away. He is bravely carrying on, and I ordered some coffee to help support him. If anyone is interested in the website, I'll pass it on in PM.

Have a healthy and marvelous Monday!!

    Chris, Aren't you gorgeous!

Sylvia, I am envious... a Cat show! Although I do have opinions about some of the "breeds". For instance, the adorable tailless Man>< cats that jump like rabbits. Did you know that many have spinal cord deficits. So up to a third of the kittens born are incontinent and thus euthanized? I took in one that someone brought in to my vet to be euthanized. Somehow she "passed" and was not euthanized as a kitten but she was incontinent of feces and also had chronic urinary tract infections because the urinary sphincter did not work properly so bacteria got in. She died at only 6 years of age from kidney failure due to these deformities. The adorable munchkin (short legged) cats end up with painful arthritis at a young age due to the pressure on their deformed legs. Etc. Etc. Some of the breeds should be banned, in my humble opinion. Not all, just some. Irresponsible breeders. And Maine Coons are gorgeous animals! Our shelter had one for a while and one of the employees fell in love and took it home. I personally adore the old fashioned, apple headed, darker Siamese. I grew up with two, have had several in my life (all freebies needing homed) and currently have one that isn't purebred but looks it on a casual glance. She has one spot of white on her chest, and her tail has subtle striping. Queen is one of the cats that I am "fostering" for the shelter- she was so fearful there that she hissed and clawed at everyone so was unadoptable. She spent the first month here hiding under the bed and only coming out at night when everyone was asleep. This morning I actually was able to pick her up and put her on my lap and have her stay there willingly for about five minutes! I was amazed.

Janet- I know what you mean about making friends in a new situation. I have lived here in small town Iowa for 15 years now, and the only friend I made was the director of the library until I took the girls in. So many adults already have enough friends and are not willing to bring someone else into their circle. During my lifetime, I did not have the normal outlet for making friends- work- due to the stigma of having a mental illness. I worked in the mental health field AND was open about my bipolar diagnosis because it was so helpful for clients to have a positive role model. Folks that work in the mental health field are the most discriminatory against folks with mental illnesses so in over 25 years in the field I was never ONCE invited to a party, to someone's home, out to lunch, etc. I think for about half the people I worked with, it was a fear of being found out- that was how many fellow staff workers told me that they also had a diagnosis but they never told anyone! So if they openly embraced me in friendship, they would potentially out themselves. When I lived in OKC and Dallas 35 years ago, I found that the natives would not associate with non-natives, so the only friends I made were newcomers like me. I suspect that has changed some with so many people moving there for jobs. The 15 years I lived in Southern Idaho I was ostracized by the 85% of the population that were Mormon. They are not allowed to associate with non-Mormons. If one refused to convert one was shunned. That is part of the reason I am so glad I found this group!

Gayle in Idaho, I am in the Iowa City area, but did a lot of work in the Ames area when I was still working. Is your family still in Osceola?

Cheri, love your poster! My grandmother's favorite saying was: This too, will pass. It is especially helpful for folks like her and me with Bipolar Disorder since the highs and lows are cyclical and so do pass... for a while.

    Hi everyone!

I'm up in London, sitting on a sofa and waiting for DGD to wake up. I can hear her coughing on the intercom as she has a cold. We always bring back some bug from these visits! DH is upstairs reading to DGS.
The new kitchen looks great and I love the garden. You can walk straight through to the kitchen from the living room and it's all lovely and light. Lucky kids!
Had a cup of tea and an egg sandwich. :D

Chris - love the photo of you in Cancun! That weight will dissipate really quickly as you know. It does look a bit frightening though. I always allow a few days before I weigh myself when I've been away as I find it too depressing!

Kim - great to see you back! You are sweet about my self discipline, but, of course, I'm no angel. >:) I have stuck to my exercising though, through thick and thin, which has hugely helped my maintenance. I eat really well and find I can cope ok with visitors etc these days. Mostly I leave out the carbs and cut back on rich sauces and, if there is something that is impossible to fit into my limit, I just have a very, very small amount. I exercised this morning before catching the train, though I cut it back by 70 cals as I have to do some walking in London. I feel so much better about myself when I am practising self discipline. I wish I'd known that years ago instead of thinking it was cool to be a rebellious slob! ! ! !

Katla - the trail ride sounds wonderful! :flowerforyou: You have transformed your life by going for what you want. <3

Love to all. Heather in North London, listening to the coughs! UK

Penny good to see you back. Sorry about your mom. Proud of her to get up and move like that. My mom would have been better off if she had done that when she fractured her hip.

Kim you did have a lot on your plate. We do not have AC either. I find if I can go somewhere cool in the hottest time of the day (3-5 here) it helps. Although it backfired on me the other day when a neighbor noticed a back tail light was out. So there I was changing this bulb on one of our hottest day in our garage that is 10 degrees hotter than the current temp at the hottest time of the day. In hindsight I should have waited until the next morning.

    Prayers for Northern Idaho.

Joyce I agree singing does soothe the soul.

Chris love the picture. You look great!

Our neighbor temporarily had six dogs in her home for a week. Two are hers, two belonged to a visiting friend, one is going home with the friend, and one was her sisters. Unfortunately the friend's dog attacked darling little Wendy, she is the neighbors miniature pinscher/chihuahua mix. Fortunately the friend leaves today and fortunately the boxer/pit bull mix did not hurt her two year old granddaughter. I love dogs, but I could tell this was not a good situation for the dogs and people involved.

Most men are 'whooshes' when it comes to being sick or hurt. They aren't used to being 'home' or 'in bed'. You just have to close the door and turn on the TV in their room and hope they have a connecting bathroom. My husband had kidney stones a few years back and moaned and groaned and carried on until I told him that I was either going to call the EMTs if he did not allow me to take him to the ER. He apparently let me; but, it was right around the time my youngest DGD was born and my DDnL was upset because they would not let her go up and visit with him. She had had 'blood clots' after the birth. Finally, they agreed to wheel her upstairs to see him. I wasn't able to go to the hospital, or else I just don't remember it. I'm not sure of which. Terminal case of C.R.S.; which sometimes keeps me 'out of trouble'. >:) I'm sure I was there for him though.

@mirianwithcats - I love the Maine Coon cats and wish that I could find one. Although Tux would probably get upset (unless I got a kitten, so he could train it - HA!). He is pretty 'territorial'; but, he doesn't mind sharing it with a dog. He is not afraid of my DOS's lab (although she comes down and eats his food). He is definitely afraid of my DYS's dogs; but, they will tear a cat from 'limb to limb' if they find one. I'm surprised they have not gone down and killed my DOS's cats. He has 3 of them and 2 are outside cats, and the other one comes and goes.

I know what you are talking about with being Bipolar. It is difficult to break into a circle of friends; I've found that to be very true. I also have 'trust' issues and only open up to family and just a 'few' friends. My oldest BFF knows when I am going into a downward spiral, because she has seen it so often; the first thing she will ask is 'have you been taking your meds?'. My oldest sister does not want to hear from me; and my middle sister will either talk to me and ask to talk to Louis if she thinks I am 'losing it'. My BFF suffers from 'depression' a lot of the time and we both seem to know when that is occurring - I don't have the wherewith all to deal with her at that point. She calls her sisters when that happens. Shortly after her 3rd husband died, she went into a 'deep' depression and almost killed herself with an overdoes. She had called one of the men that she was close to and because she wasn't sounding like herself and had made several comments to him . . . he went over and called her sisters to meet him there since they had the keys. That's when they found her 'on the floor' with several bottles and pills lying all around her. They took her to the ER and they admitted her for 3 days (standard procedure). I got upset when I could not reach her and finally called a sister and she 'hem-hawed' around the issue that she was 'in the hospital' in the 'psyche unit'. I told her the next time she pulled that 'stupid' trick and did not call me - I'd been so pissed that it might take me a while to 'trust' her again. So far she has been doing ok; part of it was because she was so upset with her grandson she had raised since he was 3 or 4 as if he had been her own son. His father and his wife would not allow him to come stay with them, as he was a 'royal screwball'. I told her to allow him to be 'arrested' and 'stay' in jail, that's where he needed to be anyway to get the help he needs. He is ADHA and ADD - neither of them will he be something that he 'outgrows' and he won't take meds for it because 'if' they are 'in his system' he violates his probation (or so she says). Having worked in the field of law, I told her that 'if they put him on any drugs', that the probation officer would know that. Still he would not take them if they suggested that he get them. He was stealing from her to buy drugs. With a drug arrest and a probation violation - he couldn't come home anyway and then before getting arrested for the PV he got arrested in another county, so it was even longer before he got out. By that time, I think I had convinced her NOT to allow him to come back to her house. He is now working in another town; but, he calls her all the time - for money. She went back to work in order to pay off the bail money she lost because he did not show up for court once. I don't understand all that she has gone through - neither of our boys gave us trouble in that sense of the word, thankfully. Other than my DYS likes 'beer' and has since he was small and popped the lid a little so he could have it dribble into his mouth. But, I have told y'all about that story before.

Tomorrow I go for a weigh in . . . I'm hoping that my weight will be at least what it was last week when I went to the MD for him to take out stitches he had to do from taking a lump (B9) out of my upper arm. That would 'thrill' me to no end. I haven't been as 'good' about keeping my caloric intake as low as it is set; but, not going over it by too much either and other than yesterday I got in the pool to do my exercise. It rained cats and dogs here yesterday (twice) I had gotten into my swim suit to go over there and as soon as I stepped on the deck steps I heard it thundering so I did not go. Good thing because the bottom let loose shortly after that. Next time will be 3 weeks from weigh-in to weigh-in and I might ask her about the appetite suppressor. So far she has not felt like I needed one and I have gone along with her program and done well. I'm just not so sure that I can suppress my appetite when we go to Louisiana because everything is so good that you put in your mouth. I know we'll be eating pizza (at least once, maybe twice) while we are out there because his best friends own a 'great' pizza joint in between where his place is (where he works and stays some of the time) and his 'their's house', where he stays most of the time. We'll probably stay at his place so that we won't put DGD out of her room/bed. And just meet up with them when we can. Her house only has 2 bedrooms and 2 baths and is a small house (although not any smaller than the trailer they have at his place); but he does have a 3rd bedroom. His place is now called their 'lake home'. He's spending more time out there than at her house because hunting season is coming up. He is still wishing that the farmer that has land next to theirs would allow them to 'rent' the hunting rights to the place because now and in the past he has allowed someone to hunt on it that hunts for 'free' and they kill anything that moves into the field they have to cross to get into the woods. He is planning on putting some of his stands on the dirt road that divides them. He already has cameras up so he can tell if they are crossing over into his property and poaching - or even picking up the dead deer. That way they can get the Sheriff to come out there and charge them. Several years ago, he tried to talk his bosses into buying the land when it went on the market; but, it wasn't 'in their budget' for the year; and now it has apparently been sold to someone else and they have not been able to get a lease on it to keep these guys off of it; and now the land is too expensive for them to buy unless the person goes into default on it. The same group of guys still hunt on it and none of them are any kin to the farmer who owns/owned the land. I don't understand, because what they have offered him in the way of rent would more than cover the taxes on the land. DYS has gotten into several verbal confrontations with them. One night all of them showed up drunk at his place and he went out on the porch and listened to their threats and told them that he could shoot all of them where they sat if they did not immediately leave. I was so worried about him when he told his Dad that one night. He is 'afraid of nothing' as he put in a school paper assigned at the beginning and then again at the end of the year. He also said that he had one 'bother' in stead of 'brother'. The first was probably more true. :/ I know when my mother still owned land, we leased it to hunters for the year in order to pay the taxes on it. When they bought the land we pro-rated the rent and still had enough to pay the taxes on it at the end of that calendar year. We had been leasing it to them for over 10 years and they were good about keeping the area clean and the fires they set were always put out and we never had to worry about it.

@Margaretturk - a couple of years ago, my MGD walked her Boston Bull down here at Thanksgiving and Jake, my DYS's male lab, who was sleeping go up and jumped him and the 4 men sitting at the table on the deck jumped up and either beat the dog in the head or were pulling his jaws away to have DDnL get the dog's head out of his mouth. The 2 oldest girls were screaming their heads off; my DDnL (who helped) and I were seated between them and the 3rdDGD who was being held by her 'other' Nana and she had her facing over her shoulder and away from seeing this fiasco. Thankfully, they were able to get the BB out of his mouth before he started shaking it, which would have definitely broken his neck. They held onto Jack (BIG lab) so that the girls could get the BB back home, in one piece. They stayed home and would not come down so DYS had to go down there and explain to them that you can't bring a 'strange' male dog into a yard where another 'male' dog was - because he had already 'marked his territory' when he got there. Can't even do it with female dogs - but to a lesser degree if they are approximately the same size or age. This little BB has recently died. YGD left him out to do his business and he wandered off. My MGD was really upset because he was really 'her' pet. I had to go down and try to help them find him; but, apparently he had wandered far off and we could not find him or his bones. The next day the buzzards came and I think that her Dad went down to see what they were circling; unfortunately, he did not find anything that he could have come home and given him a proper burial. But, the dog was so pitiful looking. Skin and bones; but DGD did not want them to take him to be euthanized. She could not understand why he wandered off to die; but, I told her that it was 'instinct' that pets wander off when they know they are dying and go a long way away to do it, especially, if they had been a pet that someone loved a lot. DOS had told her that if he 'messed' in the house again, that he was going to do so. So she was good about letting him out several more times than she normally let him out. He wasn't supposed to be 'let out and not have someone watching over him'. So sad; but, they had gotten her a little kitty; but, he/she is 'wild' and won't let anybody get her. She messes with the lab when she is loose in the house; and he hates his tail being touched. I'm surprised that she has not killed the kitten. Actually the lab belongs to my son; but my oldest DGD says that 'she loves her the best and that she really belongs to her', because she gets so excited when she comes home from college'. She is practically as tall as DGD when she is standing up on her hind legs. She almost knocks her down when she comes into the house and she 'minds' ODGS more than anybody, even my son (at the time she comes home). DGD gets so mad with her Daddy for 'spanking' Luna; but, he has told her that a dog (hunting dog) only knows she has done something wrong if he swats her on the rear end. She is good to stay, and sit, house trained (thankfully), and she will also 'crawl' to DGD. DGD has taught her to 'use her inside' barking whenever she comes to the table and looks for food. She loves pancakes and syrup probably the most because she gets fed that when DGD comes home. She has such 'soulful' eyes that you can't help from loving her. She's a 'good watchdog' as well. She'll bark her fool head off if anybody comes into the yard ... even me, when I go to the pool. DGD is planning on becoming a vet. She made her first "C" during summer quarter and was 'really' upset about that. But her cousin told her that no matter how well she studied or was on Honor's Roll or made Star Student, that college was altogether different and she needed to expect to make a "C" once in a while. Cousin told her that she even made a "D" in one of her classes, and took it over to make a higher grade. I don't think that DGD will take the class over that she made a "C" in, because she at least passed it. I think it was Chemistry (and not her Calculus class). Now that one I would have had trouble in.

We have to make sure that we put the ladder up on the pool when we leave so Luna won't get into it and tear up the lining or worse, drown. I hope the sun comes out; but, if it doesn't I have started a new book.

Sylvia: Taking your DGD's to the cat show was inspired. You are a top-notch grandma! I hope your DH is better soon.

Gloworm in WA: Welcome! I love this group, too. Finding it was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. :flowerforyou:

Kim: I'm glad that you are back and that you were gone simply because of a very busy life.

Mimi: I think you've had a major "ah-ha." People in your life will respect you more because you take care of yourself and when they truly need your help, you'll have more personal resources to share. :flowerforyou:

Joyce: It is wonderful that Ellie wants to talk with you but she needs to learn to take turns. Is she the baby of the family? :flowerforyou:

margf: Welcome to a great group. I think you may be the only current Aussie. We had a lovely woman from Tasmania with us for quite a while, but she's had a serious family emergency and has not been here since the beginning of winter in your half of the world. I hope the emergency will be resolved in a good way and that she'll be back. :flowerforyou:

Lisa: You are a busy woman! I hope you enjoy your trip to Montana. :flowerforyou:

Colleen in VA: I remember the "solution" all too well, but had forgotten that I had to avoid seedy items for a while. That part was easy. The solution requires that there be more than one bathroom because the person with the colonoscopy will be using the bathroom constantly. I recommend taking a stack of good books in there with you. :ohwell:

Cheri in NE OH: Thanks for a great poster. We do believe what we tell ourselves. :flowerforyou:

Miriam: My mom also favored the saying, "This too shall pass." She struggled with depression and low self esteem all of her life. She told me that her mother hated her. Her dad had the mumps and they "went down" on him so his doctor said he couldn't father children any more. Evidently the doctor was wrong about that, and mom took the fallout of her mother's resentment.

Heather: The trail-ride was so much fun. I'm grateful that my teacher chose to invite me rather than one of her friends. She said I'd appreciate it most and she was right. It was very generous of her.

Margaret: I'm so sorry your neighbor's friend brought an unsafe dog into her home. That is not a good thing to do. I hope the little minpin-chihuahua is going to be okay. :broken_heart::heart:

The sailboat is back from adventuring with DS and DDIL. They took their stuff off and went home. Our stuff is in the garage, and we will sort through it to put back the things we want on the boat, and weed out things that aren't needed anymore. The senior center thrift store will be getting quite a few donations from us. I'm glad were able to share the boat so they could have a wonderful adventure, but a bit disappointed in their care of our property and lack of any effort to put it back they way we had it. I am still doing boat laundry. :noway: :frown:

Today I have yoga, and we have friends coming to spend the night. They will be talking to the marina owner down the street. He's planning to build four or five condos on waterfront property that overlooks his marina. He is planning rowhouses and they would rather have a townhouse like ours. We will see how things go.

Welcome 0067807, thats a long commute! Do you have to eat out the days you are working or do you have a kitchen? I haven't figured out how to eat out more then once without going over my fat and salt limits. how do you do it? About waiting for planes trains and taxis, Im not a good waiter. I have found E books, audio books and Zinio have captivated me and made the wait less grueling. What would you prefer to be called?

Margt- How did the walk go? anything fun to see?

Becca- Wow what an experience! Yes you definitely deserve to use the food bank. Enjoy your honeymoon. We used to live in a 900 square foot house when our boys were young. It was a good thing that is had a large back yard. One good thing about small houses is that no matter how messy the house got in a day it took a lot less time to clean up then a larger house.

Mikesmom- beautiful pictures. Maybe some of that weight is water.

Katla- good suggestion stretch and yoga did help. I still find myself panting shallowly. I guess as I get stronger, and lighter it will get easier

Thanks Linda I'll give it several tries, it looks like learned behavior.

Janeter- I find my friends are grouped as work, church, and moms of my children's friends. My son, (who is in college) is a member of a biking group, they go out and ride 12-25 miles each weekend. I wonder if there is something like that for us middle age folks.

YES I did eat that second piece of pizza, I think I enjoyed it better the next day at breakfast. It was like experiencing it for the first time again.

I changed my profile picture. I took this on the top of Haleakala on Maui, looking at the trail. Its kind of like my weight weight loss journey, trying to stay on an invisible trail. MFP is helping.

Linda- I attended ISU in the 80's and my mom's family lived in Osceola. I enjoyed spending my summers in Iowa.

I also attended ISU in the 80's! I was there from fall of 1984 through spring of 1989. Yep, I was on the 5-year plan. I lived in Maple Hall my first year and a half, my sorority (Alpha Phi) for the next year and a half, and then off campus. I met my husband at Iowa State when my sorority did VEISHEA with his fraternity. When I think of all the fun I had at ISU, it makes me even more excited as my daughter now starts her college adventure.

Call me crazy but I love seeing other people happy and succeeding.

    Good Morning Ladies,

Joyce, I had avocodo green back in 1970 and loved it but I hate to tell you, I don't really think it will be back in our life times. You might want to go ahead and think about the kitchen remodel sooner than later.

Lisa, the before pictures would show even more of a contrast if you take them before you paint. Come on, we want the real before. lol I know you are ready to get away. I hope you can forget about the restaurant for hours at a time, at least.

    Colleen
, good job on telling yourself to can it. It really isn't as bad as we all make it sound.

Miriam, I would have never thought that anyone would not want you as their friend because you were Bipolar. That just shocks me. The only other thing I will say is what I told a friend a few months ago when she was complaining that none of the ladies in her Women's Club ever called or invited her anywhere; I asked her how often she called or invited them?

Heather, so glad you got to go visit and see that beautiful kitchen for yourself. Not to mention the grands. :)

MNMargaret, wow that is a lot of dogs in one house, especially when they aren't all used to each other. I love dogs too, but that's a bit much. My niece in Texas has a dog that has the strangest rump and tail that I've ever seen. I want to get a picture today while I'm still here and I might post it when I get home.

Katla, why is it that our kids never seem to take care of our things the way we think they should? It's not like they haven't been taught better but think those rules don't apply because it's Mom's or Dad's. *shakin' head*

It's my last day in Texas and I've had such a great time. I feel so bad that we've ended up living so far apart from family and never see them. I've been surprised that the 100 degree weather is so easy to tolerate because of the lower humidity. We've sat out on the patio each morning for our coffee and it's been very pleasant. My flight leaves at 7:40 in the morning so I definately won't post before going to the airport. As great a time as I've had here, it will be nice to get home.

I hope you all have a happy and healthy day.

    Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
    and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.

    I love you, <3

Linda, IA, can you imagine what your daughters are talking about in the car behind you. One hting they are probably saying is that you are driving to slow. When our DD#2 went off to college she said it was always her dream to be driving a car that was full to the brim and everyone who saw her driving down the interstate would be saying that they bet she is going to college.

Actually, right before we left, she said "I'm going to follow you, but you have to drive the speed limit." :) She knows my hubby has a bit of a lead foot. She is probably more conscientious about following the speed limit than either of us. But, wasn't a problem yesterday. We had her futon in the back of the car and it doesn't quite fit. So, the back door was tied down and we were watching to make sure nothing slid around to potentially fall out the back. The move-in went well, but I do miss her already.

Lillian in West Central Saskatchewan _ I had not heard of the Ideal Protein diet so I went off and did a quick 15 min. of looking at various sites that discuss it. While the emphasis in the places I read was on the food, nowhere did it say not to exercise. As a matter of fact, the testimonials all talk about exercise as part of their new lifestyle. I suspect your TOPS member did a little picking and choosing on what she wanted the program to be. It appears to be one of those programs where you purchase their products, lose a lot to start with, and if you stick to it you still need to learn how to eat once you hit maintenance. It wouldn’t be my top pick for a diet to go on, but I’m not the one doing it. Best of luck to your daughter. I hope she gets what she needs from this program.

Joyce, Indiana – I love that you are carrying on your father’s tradition of tales of Algernon. What a delightful thing to share.

Penny, back near the Pole – I love the image of your family singing together in the hospital and care facility. When my mom was in the hospital for her final visit, she wanted to sing. So we sang together. We were on the hospice floor and the nurses would walk by and stop to listen. Once, a Chaplin joined us in a hymn. I asked if we were disturbing anyone and was told that people were smiling and enjoying it so we did not have to stop. I was singing a song to her when she took her last breath. It’s a good memory.

I’m glad to know your mom is healing and recuperating from her fall.

Thanks for all the compliments on my weight loss transformation. I found sharing the pics helped my motivation to keep going. I’ve lived this journey day by day and to my eyes I look pretty much the same in the mirror from one day to the next. Seeing those pictures was a reminder as to just how far I have come and how much I do not want to slide back into my old ways of eating. I’m hitting that point where the weight loss slows down and it is much harder to shed just 1 more pound. At the same time, my BMI is still in the obese category so I really want to get the weight down lower. Only 4 more pounds to go and I will be overweight!!

The absolute best part of this journey is getting off of several of my prescription meds (Blood sugar, blood pressure, GERDS) and having more energy. I was able to spend an entire day sightseeing without collapsing when I recently went on vacation. That added a whole new level of enjoyment to my trip.

To all who asked, yes, I am a Red Hat lady. I was lucky enough to find a group with women who are as looney as I am. Makes for a fun time filled with laughter. There is a Red Hat Society website which gives some background on the society and how it started. If you are willing to share your name, phone and email you can also look up chapters in your area. I know not every chapter appears when you look them up, but it is a place to start when you are looking for a group to join. Best bet is to walk up to a group when you see them out in their colors, but sometimes that can be easier said than done. Of course, if you are brave, you can always just start up your own group.

Continue to honestly log food every day
Continue to meet PT one day a week for strength training

Margf - Very excited for you to start walking again. Remember to go easy on yourself.

Chris- It looks like you had a great vacation and sounds like you stayed active. I'm sure you are right and the 11lbs. will go quickly now that you are back on the program.

Sylvia - The girls must have thoroughly enjoyed their surprise Cat Show. I'm sure it will be a treasured memory.

Pip - Oh, Pip, you must be in such pain to take a tramadol and a nap. Give your body the rest it needs.

BBQ was a success. We laughed so much. We all talked so much. Taber Corn, Caesar Salad, Bourbon Chicken bites followed by tequila pie. We accompanied it with Sangria. Good company, good food, good fun. Not sure how I'm going to log it. Did I mention homemade wonton chips with the most amazing seafood dip?

I had asked DH to give my friend and I a ride to and from. His reply "I don't drive drunks around"
I wish I had been strong enough in the earlier years to say the same to him. I didn't want him hurting himself or anyone else. I didn't want him to get a DUI which happened any way. I wanted to make sure my kids had a Dad. I wanted to make sure we could keep the business running. This is how I justified myself but really I just enabled him. I told him that I didn't think it was fair that he said this and I did bring up some history. "Get your shovel and bury the past" Apparently easier said than done.

Taking the DGC to Inside Out this afternoon. I need to get started on my list before I make it longer.

I am still around but fell off the wagon and gained all my weight back. For those who remember, I FINALLY had the closing on my house in TN. One huge stressor gone. My son is now over 8 months clean, another huge stressor gone. I was able to work with my mortgage company to reduce my mortgage by $600 a month, so that too is a big relief. My next challenge is to complete my filing bankruptcy to be able to start all over. That happens in September once my mortgage modification has been completed.

My body doesn't know what to do with the lack of stress, so it fought back and gave me migraines! My Internist figured it out and gave me some really strong meds to 'kill' it. They helped a lot but didn't remove it. I then did research and found out that acupuncture/ chiropractors are the best way to fix migraines. I have one that I go to for my back so added my migraines to the regime. Really helping.

Now have to deal with slight depression (getting better), and my step-father dying. I do not really know the man as my mom has only been married to him for about 5 years, but for her sake, I am there for her.

Work is good and my place of relief.

I ran into Allison at Walmart which brought to mind this site. Thank you Allison as you seem to be the one to get me on track without even knowing it! :)

Good afternoon ladies. I'm at the studio waiting for my son to drop off the DGS before he goes to refill his oxygen tanks. The little guy and I have a shopping date, so he can choose his backpack and a few other things he still needs for school. It's nice when it's just the two of us. When he's with the other two it's chaos! I can't believe he's going to be in first grade!

Hubby felt a little better this morning, which is good because he has an 8am lecture. He called a few minutes ago and said he made it through lecture, but now he's going home to rest. That says a lot. Translates into...I'm still sick as a dog.

I finished my tri-fold brochure and sent it off the the woman who is printing them on her color laser printer. The only problem is that her printer doesn't do a full-bleed, so there will be a thin white border around the outside, which throws off the folds a little bit, but it's the best we can do on short notice. When they go to the regular printer, it should be fine. It should work for the few we need for Wednesday's event. I'll have to start researching printers for the final product.

At some point I need to get back to making pottery. I had hopes of getting back to it when the kids go back to school, but I always seem to find an excuse. And recently I noticed many (many) brown recluse spiders in the studio, hiding in clay boxes and other places, so I have to deal with that. I don't want anybody to get bitten. Not even myself.

Well, here comes trouble, up the walk. Talk to you all soon.

What I do not get is how I stop reading for a weekend and there are well over 150 posts -- you gals can all write so much while still doing things. I stop writing and I feel busy but don't get near as much done! Feel like such a slacker.

I love the kitchen redos--mine needs one in a bad way. I have the original 1957 scallops over the sink window and they look charming, but am not sure if it would be good to have new top cabinets and replace them or just replace the doors and and keep the scallops and soffits and sand and paint everything. The bottom cabinets have to go, plus the sink and counters on top. Then I need some new ones for under a shelf, and new ones for another wall--those are ugly ugly ugly. At least I do not need new appliances.

Miakoda you are my new inspiration!

And welcome back, to our exotic Penny!

I broke down and made a dessert this weekend-- vegan blackberry/blueberry crisp. Vegan, at least till the whipped cream went on. Not heaps of calories, but enough to screw with my 1200 plan for sure. Finishing it off tonight and trying to talk myself into a midday walk in the humidity. Then I'll go back to the no dessert "path of righteousness."

    Happy Monday ! ! !

I think I started in the middle, so sorry if some of this doesn't make much sense any longer.

Meg – what a rough day, for more in your life than just you. Sorry! Hugs for you ! ! !

Joyce – I’m guessing they add something to the henna to make it thicker upon application, because several hours later the 3D stuff pealed off and I was left with the stain. Now, a week later, it is very faded but still slightly visible. My supervisor at work thinks I need to get it done again. I LOVE coupon shopping and eating. Friday for his birthday I told DS which coupons I had, then asked where he wanted to eat. He chose the Food Court at a nearby mall, and he had his favorite Subway sandwich and a LARGE DQ blizzard. Funny kid. Saturday he spent 5 hours with 2 friends at the State Fair, then they played basketball in the driveway for a few more hours.

Lillian – I have to follow my DH around the house sanitizing, too. It doesn’t matter if he is sick or not, he does not wash his hands enough (and I would NOT call myself a germophobe, as I work with some).

I agree about the shiritaki noodles. I like the angel hair best, and usually cut them up and just add them to soup, because I have not found a way to get sauce to stick.

Regarding siblings that don’t send cards or open lines of communication – I am that sibling. I have so many things on my “plate” that celebrations slip through my fingers. My relatives are aware of the fact that I will likely remember a few days too late, then make the emergency phone call, or more likely send an e-mail or text. It doesn’t lessen my feelings, it is just who I am. My middle sister was the one who sent cards weeks in advance, and my Dad keeps a calendar so he can get cards to arrive the day of the event (or maybe the day before, but rarely late). What I’m saying is – please don’t take it personally. In fact, by sister’s middle child is having his first child next month, and my Dad already knows to save a package until I am done crocheting items for that baby.

Ok, all this colonoscopy talk reminded me that I need to finish and submit my paperwork. I am not scheduled until Sept. 21, so I have plenty of time work prepare and worry. I start my prep on Sept. 14 by not consuming pain meds and the other bean and seed stuff. Today I will buy a few bottles of white (cherry) Gatorade, because it is my favorite flavor.

Talk (type) to you all later. Hugs for Everyone ! ! !

Lenora sorry that happened to your GD's dog. In this case it was a larger female dog attacking a much smaller female dog who is a rescue dog. I haven't heard how Wendy, the hurt dog, is doing today. She was going to go to the vet today. They did start her on antibiotics right away.

Still working on small repairs about the house. The heat and humidity are gone today.
