    Thanks to all for the good wishes for Larry. He was out of the hospital in a few days. After a day on IV antibiotics, they stuck a needle under his eye to drain the swelling and put him on oral abx and a salve while in the hospital, eyedrops after he left.

    I put in some really long days at the gym after that. And I'm still hovering above 150, very occasionally hitting it. Grrrrrr.

    Today was one of those days when I just kept eating this and that. Walked to the ferry terminal, going through the casino to get a bit of a/c toward the end. There's a Fuddrucker's, so I got burgers for the guys and a chicken salad ... which turned out to have about 540 cals. So I had half of it & will take the rest to work.


    Becca - <<hugs>> about the feeling out of control and the pound early this month.

    Kim in N Calif - Hasn't the neighbor kid heard about drum pads? Maybe you could go around the neighborhood and take up a collection to get him some. (They're not pads that go on the drum, but rubber practice surfaces on stands.)

    Run Happy - I log after each meal, if I can. That way I don't have to try to remember. :) I have the webpage bookmarked on my laptop and the app on both my personal and work phones. One way to check on your eating habits is to go to a site for diabetics and check out the exchange recommendations.

    JanetR - how lucky about the luggage being there when you got your younger daughter's. Once when I had prints I'd bought as Christmas presents, my luggage arrived late, and without the prints. I was told they weren't covered by the airline's insurance because they were fragile. My protest that fragility had nothing to do with theft did no good.

    Hello all! I'm new here and need some feedback please. I've lost 44 pounds since June 2014 which I'm so grateful for. The thing that is weird to me is that most of the people I know and don't see very often, maybe once every 3 months or so, never say that they notice I have lost w eight. I've been a yo-yo dieter for so long but recommitted to losing weight and getting healthy the last 5 months. I have gotten a haircut about that time which no one comments on either! It is so weird to me because people normally notice! Thanks!

    I think the heat is breaking up a bit, its almost 11pm and is under 75 which is an improvement over yesterday, I am so glad, I don’t do heat well. I also have a hard time figuring out what to eat in that heat… so dinner tonight was watermelon and tomatoes.. good but doesn’t really stick with you, but I hate hate hate to heat up the house, and with it being “spare the air” days we are not supposed to BBQ either… So I just do weird things – this is when it is good that I am just cooking for me.

    Lisa, why did you have to obtain the plumbing snake? Was it yours or belong to the ranch? I would hope something like that would be part of the expenditure of the restaurant for both the man power and snake itself. Glad you were able to make some headway on the warehouse.

    Allison, I think I just need a name, anyones name to have on the challenge so I can have a goal other than the one I have set. It will push me so I don't have to feel DJ's shoes. You have a job and you wear many hats. I don't so don't feel bad.

    Colleen, the colonoscopy will be over before you know it.

    Miriam, I so admire animal fosterers. You all have so much passion for the love and care of those animals. I am curious as to what your opinion of the Tortie cat.

    Katla, I will use that approach to my daughter when I talk to her about Ellie's needed attention when I am trying to talk to some one else. It is a trait she should be learning anyway. Next time your son uses the boat for an extended trip, could you just say to him that you will make sure they have complete access to your laundry to clean up afterwards. Let him know that you will not have any laundry to catch up on.

    DJ, we are planning on staying in this house until we die. We own it and don't want to go out and incur another mortgage. Both our daughters will inherit it when we die. It will be up to them as to what to do with it. I know Christina will never move out of Kentucky and Michelle would have to buy her sister's share which would leave no money to fix it up. Well. let's face it, neither one has any extra money to be getting an old house ready to sell. So we will be doing it. We just need to know how much money charlie is going to have to put out for his Remicade infusions for the rest of his life. After we find that out and then put aside about 5 grand for vacation next summer, we can cross another item off the list to get fixed, like windows. Yep, they are still the original ones form 1978. I know one problem I will have in fixing it is that I don't like the open floor plan. I don't want nayone to sit in my living room and be able to see my kitchen, it isn't clean!!!

    Linda/IA, glad the move off to college went smoothly.

    Mia, my sister told me today she is on the Nutri System plan. She had done that a long time ago and really lost the weight. Then she went on to describe what she is doing. She has bought some of the frozen foods at Walmart but still plans on keeping the lest of her week normal, going out to eat with her swim class at the Y. They go out twice a week to eat, one day is always pizza and the other is Olive garden or Cheddar's and keep thier Sunday tradition of a big plate of spaghetti. But she is on Nutri system now. Yeah, sure.

    Rita, welcome back. I gained back 30 of the 60 pounds I had lost. When the scales hit 199.8, it hit me hard and so I am back on the wagon again.

    Sylvia, enjoy your day with DGS. Hope DH finally gets better. And girl, hire an exterminator! Those varmits are no thing to play around with, especially if you have that many. I got bit by one many years ago and it was not fun. I wouldn't wish that on anyone whether they be friend or foe. Luckily I got treatment the day after I was bit late in the evening and had no lasting effects from the bite.

    Betty, is cool whip or the kind you get in the squirt bottle non vegan? I just thought they were all a bunch of oils. I have a very boring walking path inside my house. If I keep walking it during a commercial, I walk about 500 steps. But it si very boring. Also when i get up in the morning, also when I go to bed, I take each thing that needs to go back to my bedroom in one at a time. My phone and iPad are charged overnight in my bedroom. So I take the phone out into the living room, then walk back to the bedroom and get the iPad. Or if I am in the living room, after each item is out, I take one more time to go back in the living room to turn out the light. It does all add up.

    Tracie, so glad you could find a good doctor that cared enough to get to the bottom of your problem and get you back on track. Your other physician deserves 30 lashes with a wet noodle for letting you go on like this.

    Heather, so glad your grand children are having such a good time with your husband. And also glad you are having such a good time watching him! I know Charlie is such a different person when those two girls are around. The room that picture was taken in sure looks like a room made for the DGKs. I notice the watch in the picture. Michelle said that today's generation doesn't need watches, that's what cell phones are for.

    Vivki, you have 28 grand children???? WOW, must be 'fun' at Christmas time. We had 2 daughters and one of those two has 2 children. The other married later then got a divorce. She is dating now but marriage has not been discussed and she is 35 and feels like she is to old now. She has her 3 dogs and one cat and is content. If she is content with that, then so am I. Yes, I would like more but it isn't my decision to make.

    Lenora, we don't even have a proper back splash in our kitchen. I think what they used it the same laminate that the kitchen counters are made of. They just cut off a 4 inch strip to use. I do have a piece of contact paper above the stove but under the stove vent hood. It has the same green in it and also some yellow. So the walls are painted a soft yellow and the patio door has sage green curtains. It's a big size kitchen with a large eat in area so we have that highlighted by wood paneling at about chair rail height. But we still have the same light fixture that the builder put there in 1978.

    Carol NC, you crack me up. Glad you could work today.

    Charlie had his 2nd Remicade infusion today. For the first time they had trouble finding a vein. If this continues, I will ask doctor about a port. His next one will be in 4 weeks instead of the 2 and the one after that and then forever will be every 8 weeks. He had gotten pretty bored before so today I set up a Bobby Vinton station on my iPad and he enjoyed listening and singing along with Pandora. If we will be going to the same infusion center for the rest of his life, they better get used to his singing.

    Today I weighed 194 pounds!!!!! That's a total now of 6 pounds is about 10 days. So I decided to be real honest and change my current weight and activity level here on MFP. So it no longer shows a 60 pound weight loss but 38.8 loss. I do my best walking when Charlie is at the infusion center. It is located on the surgery/cancer unit and i make a lot of laps around the unit and I also go downstairs and walk around the huge lobby area, hugging the walls to get a max step level and walk down a very long hall to the ER. They have a pretty big staircase in the lobby and I go up and down several steps. hopefully I will be bale to get up the whole flight of stairs pretty easily. Then after supper we went to Walmart and got a lot of steps there.

    Do you know that Walmart has to keep the cans of compressed air you use on computers locked up. The teenagers like to buy them and get high on inhaling that stuff!

    Sorry I didnt check in last night, I was tired..
    I was still tired when I got up, but rolled my butt out of bed and straight to the gym ,did 30 min on the treadmill and a few more machines.. I am trying to get different work outs in.
    today is gonna be crazy at least for the afternoon.they put alot of big cases for the afternoon in, andnot enough time so we will be running late...what really ticks me off is when the girls up front come pacing past the dorr and giving me the eyes.. well you dopes your the one who put them in for that time...OY
    alright, have to hop in the shower and then take the dogs for a walk in to work at 7:30

    JanetMMc - Yep, designed the quilt. Luckily, it was a long engagement! The design was mostly in my head, and laying pieces out on my bed to see if I could make it work. And please note, the attic window pattern has been around for a long time--this is just my riff on it. And the panels around it just grew from the center--whatever looked right on the next run, color-wise, that's what went down next.

    And while I'm definitely not Superwoman, I'm definitely Wonder Woman. Wondering what the heck I've let myself in for, most days! :smiley:

    Joyce - personnel issues at the ranch are almost as hard to resolve as the ones at the restaurant. They, too, run with a skeleton crew. And yeah, the plumber's snake belonged out there... and one of my horrendous issues that I've had to deal with at the restaurant is that there has been no maintenance done in two years, and there was no equipment purchased to do it. I've borrowed from Peter to pay Paul all over the place... made them buy me a vacuum cleaner

    Because NO maintenance was done on the air conditioning (in the desert!) I've paid almost $2,500 in the last two weeks just to get a year's worth of neglect undone before it goes out on me. On the minor maintenace side, as an example, there was literally ONE dustpan IN THE WHOLE BUILDING. People spent more time looking for the thing than it would have cost my predecessor to buy a couple. I ordered three to alleviate the issue of spending wage time looking for a dang dustpan. So, just to get up to reasonably operational, I'm having to cure a year of the neglect the people AND the property AND the equipment have all gone through in very short order.

    But, most days I'm pretty jazzed about the strides we've made. Is it up to my standards? Not sure any group of 20-some people could be. Some are, some aren't, some will be, some never will. And the "never wills" will be eased out gently.

    And, because I don't feel I need to be loved, I just feel I need to make all this right, I've got a couple that hate me, a couple that love me, and a lot of 'em just want to get the paycheck and to go home. And that's OK, too. I'm not doing it to be loved... :neutral: I'm doing it for the paycheck myself at one level. At another level, I promised it would be better when I left, and it will be.

    Weight-wise - stalled out at 174, 36 pounds down... one more pound, and I'll be halfway to my goal. Down from a size 18 to a size 12 since April 1, which makes me happy. Exercise is by the wayside again. I'm trying... but combining it all means something has to give, and running four miles in a day drains so much energy that I cannot quite recover. Oddly enough, when I don't exercise, I lose weight, because my appetite is so much lower.

    But, as JMMc points out, can't solve it all. Today, tomorrow and Thursday to get through, then off to Montana. I can do three days standing on my head. Well, I could if my sinuses weren't so ginky. Hate that feeling... :wink:

    Joyce, the kitty I just lost was a tortie! I have always loved them. They are always female. We had one when I was a kid- my brother named her Cobweb because she crawled under his desk and came out with cobwebs on her whiskers. So this kitty was named after her- Cobweb the Second. Sometimes the coloring on them will stop midline of their body. This Cobweb had the left side of her nose dark, and the right was orange! The Man>< I had was a tortie too. For those who don't know, torties (tortoise shells) are mottled black, brown and orange with NO white. If they have white they are considered calico (three colors- white, orange, and black/ brown). Like black cats, they are frequently overlooked for adoption.

    LisaG, welcome! I had to laugh about the people who see you not noticing your weight loss. I ran into a guy at Walmart who I haven't seen in three years or so, and despite my having lost 130 pounds, he didn't notice. He recognized me, but never noticed I was different. Some people just don't pay attention. But lots of people do, so I hope you run into some of them too.

    :) It is not surprising to me that most people you see don't comment on your weight loss or your new hair cut. I've seen that, too.....it's all about them and not about you. One of my happiness commandments is "don't expect praise or recognition". I have no qualms about admiring myself and telling myself that I'm doing great rather than waiting for others to cheer me on....please keep coming back here....this is a great place to find the support and encouragement you're not finding in your face-to-face life. Also, sometimes people notice but they don't know what to say so they say nothing.

    Now that four of the dogs are gone. I plan to spend more time in the garden today. It was hard to garden when they were all there because they would start to bark when I worked out back.

    I like this thread. I am 56, 85 lbs to take off, 2 so far. Very tired of being fat and now my marriage of 25 years is threatened by it. My goals for the rest of August are:
    to go for a bike ride every day for at least 20 min
    drink my water
    stay at or under my recommended calorie intake

    @raymax - my DYS thinks that 'cold pizza' the next day for breakfast is the 'best'.

    @miakoda - my 'red' hat is actually a cap and I have a button on it that reads: "I've Survived Damn Near Everything." Plus it has a pink flamingo on it as well. I collect flamingo and just bought one when we went to the beach. That makes 70+ (no 2 are alike).

    @Teri - the friends I have had who had Bariatric surgery have not had the success they had intended. One, a very good friend got down to about a size 6 and she got married and her husband is a big eater and she is a great cook and she is now probably a 22W+ and short. I have not seen her in quiet a while; but, I do hear her pain over the phone. Another friend (our mail lady) had the 'lap band surgery' and apparently it was making her sick and they had to go back in and increase what she could eat and hold. I don't think she ever lost more than 10lbs and now is just as heavy as she was before; but, both she and her husband are big drinkers. The former SnL of my BF almost 'died' from having it and she had major health issues afterwards and died a few years ago. My DnL says that 'if' she gets a job with benefits that would be something she would consider doing; but, she would still have to start doing some exercising so that she would not have a lot of flab left over. She is a 'big' girl and even at her height would be considered 'morbidly' obese.

    Hopefully, today when I go in to weight I will have dropped from being mildly obese to just being overweight. If there is really a difference.

    @jmkmom - one way to make a room look larger and more cohesive is to paint everything an off white (or stark white) and then make the avocado of the fixtures as your accent color. Put up a backsplash of avocado and other greens as your backsplash and a few other things on your counter that are avocado, such as bowls or vases. Put something like a valance over a window with the avocado color in it and use a matching avocado table liner (or whatever they call that strip that goes down the middle of the table. Buy some inexpensive plates and set the table with a set of 4 or 6 of them - like you are 'staging the home' as if it were 'for sale'. Maybe looking at Pier One (they have a lot of different table settings and a set of 4 would not be a fortune - maybe). Centerpiece with avocado in it. Then when you have the chance to do so, do the floor in a wood tone or a beige with maybe a little white thrown in . I don't know what color your counters are; but, if it is a totally different color add that in as a 2ndary 'pop' color. Sometimes when you can't afford to gut a room to change it, a little paint and imagination goes a long way. I'm married to a painter, who has said, 'don't you think maybe we need to change the colors in our bedroom and kitchen'? (Fall back and hold onto my heart) "Yes"; but that isn't something he will do as quickly for me as I would like for him to do. I'm taking out some money from our retirement so that he can finish the all season room we have made our screen porch into. I'm tired of 1/2-way done projects. I want to start using the room. We need a door on it; we need a vent cut from the A/C and we need to insulate underneath it and (probably) the rest of the house. Put a new fixture with a fan on it (and a light) or buy some lamps. I already have the furniture out there (covered, of course) and then I can move some of my 'art books' and 'flamingos' out there, since he thinks they sometimes are in the way. We'll need to insulate the walls and then put bead board or wallboard over that and make some shelves around the outside walls. I'm planning on getting some sheers out there, just to cover the windows when it is hot (summer and spring mostly) since it is on the west side of the house. I might even get him to put some shelves up between the stiles for my flamingos or some plants, too. I have a vision of what I would like for it to look like; but, sometimes explaining it to him only gets this 'wide-eyed doe in the headlights look'. Just do it as I tell you - it'll be fine. Maybe I should say 'it will be GREAT" . . . FINE means "F***** up, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional unstable. LOL!

    That is not unusual at all! Congratulations! That is a great achievement. I am also a yo-yo dieter. Hopefully this will be a life change for the both of us!

    Good morning ladies! Not a lot of time to comment on everybody's post. We have a to do list of around 100 items. We have replaced just about all of the light fixtures on the main level. Today I am waiting for the plumber to connect our water softener. We have a lot of lime in our water. With my long hair I need to be able to comb through it! Soft water will help a lot with that.

    My Dad (and daughter) kept me busy last night, so my laptop lost power, and I was unable to log my evening food, so I will attempt to get back on track today. Work is back to crazy again, and I need to make an emergency trip to the dentist this afternoon. I haven't had this amount of pain in ages, and it hurts even worse to floss, so I'm guessing a loose filling. I hope I won't need a root canal, because I just don't want to take the time off work (sad excuse, I know, but I'm not afraid, I just don't want to do it).

    I wish I had time to catch up on reading and posting, but I hope you all know you are in my thoughts and prayers.

    well, the battle of the insurance begins. got a hospital bill 9737.46 and ins. paid 250 something dollars. I don't think the hospital billed my ins. and they think I still owe it.

    Good morning everyone! I have a ton to get done this morning at work but wanted to check in. I find if I don't repeatedly do something until it becomes automatic, it quickly falls by the wayside. Sooooo, I logged in this morning to finish up yesterday's food log and exercise log even though I went over my calories for the day. Time to get real and own up to my choices. UGH!

    Lisag0328: Congratulations! That is a great achievement. I agree with the comment I saw above that people are like that a lot. They don't comment because it's all about them and it kills them to compliment someone else. You keep up what you are doing and try not to give it another thought because you know inside how great you are doing and that's what really counts!

    It is all just paperwork! That happened when my husband got injured last year. You just have to submitted to your insurance or make sure that the hospital has your insurance information. You will not have to pay more than your deductible. My husband was close to $200,000 and we only had to pay the $5500 deductible.

    I just wanted to add a comment about people not commenting about a person's weight loss. I know that I myself have not commented about a person's weight loss because I felt they would think that I was thinking that they were fat before! And if I said well you look really good would that mean that I didn't think they looked good before! I think some people just feel uncomfortable saying anything.

    I agree...I have often said nothing to someone who has lost weight because no matter how I think I can say it, it seems like it would say they didn't look good before.

    Sylvia: I can't believe it is already back to school in your part of the country. We have a little more time, as our school year begins after Labor Day, and the kids don't get out until mid June. It works out well for us. We have generally lovely late summer/early fall weather, and our spring rains last until mid June. The school schedule was originally engineered so kids could help harvest farm crops. :flowerforyou:

    OConnell5438: I had to make sleep a priority because I was getting to tired for my brain to work properly. I am doing much better since I started making sure that I get enough sleep. :bigsmile:

    Terri_mom: It sounds like your DD is struggling with her emotions. I doubt this is something you can fix. You haven't done anything negative. I hope your daughter comes around sooner rather than later. I can only imagine how it might feel to be in her situation. All I can think of for you to do is let her know you're love her and are rooting for her. I see that she's already moving in the right direction. Have you shared MFP with her? I imagine it would be a source of support for her with or without surgery. :flowerforyou:

    Run Happy: I log my food on my phone as each day goes along. That way I don't have to try and remember what I've eaten, and it gets logged when I'm travelling without my computer. :flowerforyou:

    Lisa: I suspect people are reluctant to comment on weight loss for fear of saying something offensive. A woman who worked where I did lost quite a bit of weight, and I couldn't figure out what to say to her for months. One day I finally thought of something I could say & told her she looked wonderful. It put a smile on her face and that made me feel good, too. :bigsmile:

    Kim: I can't believe how many things are being restricted where you live! :noway: Yikes! I'd be going for cold sandwiches or green salad with chicken or shrimp. :flowerforyou:


    DH is having computer problems today. He's too close to the "full" line for comfort and needs to get rid of info or and memory. Our guests are still sleeping, but I am skipping spin/zumba with our neighbor because I don't want to go off for an hour or more while I have company. The marina down the road is planning to build condos in the next year or so, and they want to talk to the owner to see what the plans may be like. We'll go along to hear, too. DH thinks he might be interested. I'm less enthused, but some of what Brad is talking about is appealing.

    August Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

    Joyce, I used the kind in a squirt can that has milk, so not vegan. I am not vegan myself, but if there is some way to lower calories with a vegan recipe I will try it. This particular crisp recipe has only 8 T sugar (half white, half brown) and 4 T olive oil for one crisp, not one serving of crisp. Where I discovered the calories really are is in the almond meal and the pecans. Nuts will do it every time! All that nutrition what with fruits, oats, nuts and olive oil, but still I cannot eat this stuff regularly. Not with 299 calories per serving on a 1200 calorie plan. I will wait till week's end to get back on the scale.

    Also, I dearly love my homemade granola, but have not made it all summer because it just has too many calories, even if they are good ones.

    Has anyone tried this thing called the Portfolio Diet? I only looked at it as a way to lower cholesterol, but I think the guy who promotes it is way too flippant about calories for my taste. He seems to think a person should be getting all this soy, nuts and plant sterols in and sure go ahead and eat about 1900 calories to do so. Not me, baby -- there is no way I can eat what he suggests and lose weight too. But I am trying to include a bit more soy and almonds in.

    My simple goal for August is just to weigh less than I did the end of July...
