I need to read your entire comment within context before I comment back. LOL Yes, that hill get's jennifer too. She hated it on the Rudolph Run 5K. My Tuesday Brueggers run has bigger hills. The hill leading into my apartment complex on Water Hill Rd is almost the same profile as the Cotton Row hill.
Yep exactly what I meant, a hill to me isn't a hill to you Stoshew71 LOL I'm used to pretty flat streets so even the sidewalks at Research Park are hilly to me.

It was a fairly cool evening, so got another 3 miles done outside around the neighborhood. The last quarter of a mile was rough, so may need a rest day or a short one tomorrow. That makes 28.25 out of 40 miles for the month.
@skippygirlsmom well I made it to NC in a rather convoluted manner because of various jobs. Went to college at 'Bama, grad school at UAB, and spent some time at Emory for a postdoc. Then managed a few months in CT, and then a few years in Boston. After a few cold winters, I decided it was time to make my way back down south, via Maryland and finally to the Raleigh area. My brother lives here, so it works out well-so there are at least 4 Tide fans here if you count him and my nieces. Hopefully mom will move up this way eventually so that's at least 5 of us. Although I have run into a few others here! It's not such a bad state, even if it is ACC territory and they don't really appreciate their football the way we Alabamians do. Right now as long as I can stay gainfully employed I think I'll stay for a while.0 -
Every one seems to be on a Hill Push. So I had to go out and do what we call Tower Road on Misery Mountain ( Local Ski Hill ) 7.5 km. Contemplated returning on the south slope through the "Camel Back Humps" ( every trail has a local un-official name) but recent rain made it look like a really bad ankle breaking super slide so just looped back on the same trail.
Will have to do a post on just HILLS where we can post pictures of our best/worst nightmares.

So funny, I did some research on running form. So I toyed with running intermittently with my arms out like Frankenstein, then out like Frankenstein but together. Peoples reactions are hilarious! Then stop an do the Frankenstein kicks to loosen up the hamstrings.

A great run tonight. I missed out on the rain I had hoped for but it was only 66F so not bad at all.
A package had arrived for me and it was the Brooks jacket and FuelBelt hydration belt I ordered from the REI Outlet store. I decide a short run would be best to test the belt so I filled the 20 oz bottle and brought it along.
I started with a 1 mile walk, followed by a 1 mile easy run, followed by a 5K run at near race pace. I ran that final 5K in new PR time of 28:31, beating my previous PR by 2:42! I was pushing hard with a HR of 159, but my races have been with a HR of 166 to 168, so I still had more to give. This in spite of my 1 mile walk and 1 mile run just prior, and carrying 20oz of water on my waist. It's very satisfying to see that kind of payoff for my efforts and just motivates me more to keep it going.
I think the water belt will work ok. I'd rather not have one, but it's not as bad as carrying a bottle with me and now that I'm up to 2 hours of running, I need to make sure I have water. I suspect it will be like my Garmin FR 305, where it was annoying to start using it, but I got used to quick enough. Now I don't even notice it.
I'm excited about tomorrow's run. The high is only forecast to be just 61F and will be down to 58F by the time I get out.

@karllundy and @skippygirlsmom thanks - now on other antibiotics for a secondary issue that cropped up when on antibiotics last week. The dog bite seems to be the gift that keeps giving. On the plus side, these ones don't seem to be destroying my stomach as badly as my last set (yet).
Got in 8 cooler miles today as the heat wasn't as ugly, and ended up running with 2 medical professionals who seemed much more interested in my latest ailment and antibiotic dose than I was. Still, I guess I can understand why they are medical professionals as they were fascinated by one issue. Tomorrow's run is with a prominent chess player (coming off a huge tournament win), so hoping to have fewer discussions about scars, pus, and other medical problems.

@juliet3455 we already have frequent flier miles at our local hospital so yes im very glad we didnt have to go in
once school is back she will only join me at the lake on the weekend to run, school prefer to have her compete in disability sports and she represents the school in boccia tornaments.
while shes recovering ill be getting my runs in by running loops of the road i live on while she sits in the house watching from the window. i dont normally run here for a couple reasons
1. i live on a hill, i hate hills so i fully expect to be whinging about that later
2. i live next to crackheads who make it thier mission in life to make mine a misery, the peanut gallery like to remind me im fat when i run here
3. i stopped running in the area when the local riff raff started shooting at each other, after one of my night runs a few months back (missy was safely in the house being watched by a friend) i was just entering the house when one was shot in the leg, i moved to running a park out the area after that0 -

Well, I missed being in the prizes at the fourth phase of the indoor marathon at the gym because it rained like crazy on Monday and I didn't make it in...did 30k in total yesterday and today though.
@skippygirlsmom The indoor marathon is a treadmill based competition, we scan a QR code and an app keeps track of our distance and time. Four more days in the competition.
Resting tomorrow and then doing a recalibrate or re-think of exercise and fitness goals for the year...September will not have luxury of gym whenever I feel like it....

This was supposed to be race pace- but I was just thrilled I finished and didn't poop on myself- I knew it was going to be rough- I went pee and I knew i could sit there for another 20 minutes and be late- or just go run and deal- so I just ran. Too bad every part of my body was hurting with every step. So coupled with that- and the "oh crap" problem- just- slow- and miserable. Whatever. came home- stripped down and sweated all over my toilet (TMI I'm sorry but you know that post run- stop running drench sweat- yeah)- and then I did 15 minutes of stretching/yoga. My hips are crazy tight today. Blarg- rough - but oh well- almost to 50 miles- super happy about that!

@jorocka - lol - sorry your run was so bad, but your description of it cracked me up. I definitely can relate to the needing to use bathroom during a run and then the sweat all over the toilet seat routine. Some days even after a shower it seems like I'm still sweating. But I don't have time to wait to cool down completely before showering.
@7lenny7 - I use my water belt when running more than an hour. Although in the Florida summer heat I should probably just wear it all the time. I don't mind how it feels I just hate the noise it makes.0 -

Total slog today. It was 75 degrees and 90% humidity when I left at 6, and 75 degrees and 88% humidity when I got back an hour and a half+ later. Could not get my feet moving and made the dumb decision to put lots of hilly stretches in my route. Cannot wait til some storms come through and knock these 90+ degree days out of here!
On the bright side: there were a ton of other runners slogging it this morning too who were all quite friendly, and for the first time since I moved out here I saw a FOX! I ran past it and it jumped out of a bush and dashed through someone's backyard. It was so fluffy and cute!

@karllundy lol heck yeah my daughters been drama filled since the day she arrived. she turned up 15 weeks too early and spent her first year in hospital. told she would never live past the age of 2 and then that she would never walk or talk
each time we get past one thing she comes up with another. we got rid of the feed tube age 7 only for her to develop stridor from subglottic stenosis and had to begin frequent operations to keep trying to expand her airway to normal and then they discovered she only has half a lung on her left side
she certainly keeps me and the medical community on our toes
shes the reason why ive been working so hard on my fitness as trying to carry her when he legs give out was getting nigh on impossible0 -
My July goal was 30 miles and I hit that. I think I will shoot for 35 for August.
8/2 - 3.5mi. PR for distance Woohoo! According to my GPS I went 3.5 but according to the trail map I did 3.7 miles. I am going with my GPS since I always use the same one when I run so any errors should be consistent. Walking up to get ice cream with son and dog later so that will be another 3 miles but I will not include it in my monthly total.
8/4 - 3.6mi. Another PR! I went for a run on my break at work because I was falling asleep at my desk, don't tell the boss, and I ended up completing the run in 50 minutes which is what it took me to run 5k last month in the heat and humidity. I learned that my ideal pace right now is about a 13 minute pace so I was able to cut out most of the walk breaks except for walking up the big hill at the end of trail. (Why is there always a big hill at the end of a run?)
8/6 - 3.5mi. Got up at 6:30am on my day off for a beautiful cool morning run with Neeko. Kept my average pace at 13:14 which seems to be ideal for me but I will admit my legs were tired when I was done. That hasn't happened in a while but it was a great feeling.
8/8 - 2mi. Over did it on strength training yesterday and pushed myself to do 3 reps of 12 leg presses at 210 lbs so my legs were dead today. Even Neeko was confused when I turned around early LOL. I think I am going to try again tomorrow depending on how crazy work is and I am not sure if I want to push for 4 miles since I just stepped up to 3.5 last week. I guess I will see how I feel.
8/10 - 1.5mi. Well yesterday didn't happen, work was insane and today it started raining and thundering when I started. Neeko and I kept going until we saw lighting but got in a fast comfortable mile and a half. No running tomorrow, I have a session with my trainer so I will try again on Wednesday for 4 miles.
8/12 - 3.5 mi at the crack of dawn today.
8/14 - 4.0 mi. Broke thru my glass ceiling this morning and finally made 4 miles! Woohoo! I can't believe how much my running has improved since the temperature and humidity have gone down. A few months ago I could barely make 3 miles in what it took me to run 4 today and I felt good at the end.
8/17 - 3.0 mi Was going for 4 miles but the heat and humidity returned with a vengeance. My 3 included more walking then I wanted as it was.
8/19 - 3.2 mi Today was the first day of school for JJ so Neeko and I were out the door at 5:15 to get our run in before I had to get him to school and me to work. At least it was nice and cool but never realized how many streets around us don't have lights.

8/8 - 3.1 Run to the Rescue 5K today. Skip and I ran, it was trail for almost 2 miles (I've never run off the road) then onto the road, then onto parking lot gravel (ugh) then back to and finish on grass. We don't have official times, I was I did a 9:43 pace just over 30 min so not near a PR, Skip said she was about 23:49 not near her PR either. I thought it was a tough course, a few hills. The trail was hard for me very rooty and uneven, but it was a lot of fun. I finished 3rd in my AG and she finished 1st in her AG.

8/10 - 3.5 miles of recovery - it's my birthday it's my birthday!!

@ddmom0811 I've taken to running with one, a Nathan bottle fanny that I paid all of $10 for at a Nathan rep's sample clear out sale. I don't notice it much except for the noise and to combat that I only carry, for most runs, the bottle 1/4 full. That seems to help a lot with noise and is usually all the water I need for 90 - 120 minutes.
It has a pocket for the little gel bottles which I don't use but it holds a phone and a protein bar nicely. Bonus: when I have to have Kady on a leash I slip the handle through my belt so I can run hands-free - I really like not having to hold the leash while running.
@WhatMeRunning So glad to see you feeling better and back! You can always roll this month's goal forward to September. I'll be doing that, there's no way I'm going to catch up now.0
