DJ - nope, no water, no egg, no oil. Just the pumpkin.

Sylvia - so glad you went to urgent care and even more glad that it isn't menningitis.

Cut the grass. Tomorrrow we'll start putting up Halloween decorations. Why didn't we do it today, you ask? Because the first thing that has to be done is to pound these metal stakes into the ground for the "fence" and since we have Newcomer bowling tonight,
Vince didn't want to start hammering and then have to go bowling.

Gayle - one of the churches around here does a "Pottery and Chili" fundraiser. You get chili and you can pick out a piece of pottery. Best for your mom and so sorry about your friend moving

terri - have fun at the fair!

barbie - you make such a great point about the people being the ones who make or break a group (WW or TOPS), not the program itself. Fantastic transformation!

Becca - really, the fee for TOPS isn't all that much. I THINK WW is more than that. Wonder if TOPS gets income from somewhere else? I don't remember seeing TOPS foods or anything like that. 6lbs in one week? Something doesn't sound right to me.

Kim - hi there! Glad to have ya with us. Whenever I don't feel real motivated to exercise, I always think to myself that by exercising I can eat more foods, and that always seems to help.

Phyl in Cincy - there are days when I seem to have a hard time getting in my calories for the day. But then there are days when I go over, so it all evens out in the end. This will probably happen to you.

Lenora - have fun at the retreat. I saw pics of Calloway Gardens, it looks very gorgeous.

Michele- I'm like you, I exercise so I can eat more food as well. Knowing that my exercise is building muscle which burns more calories I'm hoping that after I reach my goal weight I'll be able to eat a decent amount. How did you figure out what amount of calories would maintain your weight?

Tomorrow is the last day of my 5 day fast and both my DH and I are looking forward to Saturday! We have talked about what we want to eat. He bought a package of pepper bacon from a little store where the owner makes it. Not the best choice but he is doing great. We also talked about not going crazy after being restricted. I'm eating at a deficit after around 1270 calories so I can reach my goal weight. Supposedly MFP thinks I'll lose a pound and a half per week at that amount. We'll see!

    Have a great night everyone!

Oh my…. I know we all have only 24 hours in a day, but I am sure my 24 go faster than everyone else’s… I think of you all, wish for you each day, and finally fall into bed again missing you.

Decided to start reading on page 42… had to pick some where.

Terri- chicken pox… I am the oldest by many a year… and my siblings were in elementary school, I was a junior in high school… and they shared! Chicken Pox, German Measles and regular 2 week measles all in one year…. I did not fit in very well in High school any way but having all 3 of the “baby kid” sickness-es in one year did in any reputation I had.

Barbie – Sorry to hear you are having some issues, glad to hear some things ( big scary things) have been eliminated…

Becca – a break from Tops sounds like a good idea… I would say they are not helping with self care. Later --- sounds like both you and Tops have evolved so It’s not as good of a fit as it once was.

Gloworm – be strong ((((((hugs))))))) the right thing is out there!!!

Lisa - I’m so glad you like us! I like you! The kitties are so cute! And detoxing is a great description!

Sylvia – is it possible that both you and Hubby “get it” you totally get that $52 of clay and a few hours is a perfect donation, and he gets that $750 is $700 profit and that is perfect for the bottom line…. And so you do a bit of both.

Michele – that sounds like a great recipe…

Pictures the before and afters are really great.

    October Goals -
    Attend yoga each wednesday evening
Walk everyday - increase over 140 - would like to see 160 miles
continue counseling and hold my weight where it is as I deal with my current set of emotional issues
    weekly fun things
W1 – hike, high school football
W2- go to Angels Camp to visit a friend, high school football
    W3-
    W4

I'm just asking everyone to pray for my son and his family. They are in Peurto Vallarta Mexico and a category 5 hurricane may hit there tomorrow at 6:00 pm. Katrina was only a category 3. Thanks!

Heather - You are always inspiring. I hope you get your rental sorted soon.

Cheri - I am so sorry for your loss. It does sound like he was at peace at the end of his life. I have a "Living will" although I think I may need to revisit it.

Mary - He says the ribs don't hurt much, his actions say otherwise. You are one gorgeous gal. Thanks for sharing your photos.

Grits - Great NSV having your clothes altered. Congrats on the hard work.

Sylvia - I am sorry your headache has become worse. So glad it is not meningitis. My niece had meningitis as a baby. We are lucky she survived but it did leave her profoundly deaf and with one shortened leg which is resulting in her hip wearing out at a young age.
I admire what you are doing for the charity. The world needs more people like you.

Terri - Who know how DH actually dislocated his ribs? I'm guessing that he lifted something he shouldn't have. He is going to have his ileostomy reversed. He is happy about that but not thrilled about a 3-7 day hospital stay.

Katla- It sounds like the window project is leading to a clearing out project. I'm sure there are many who will enjoy the books.

Sainsworth - Welcome. Those cereals can really be tricky. I still eat some but try to make sure the fibre out weighs the sugar.

Pip - Wow! That's over a 3 yr streak. I hope that is me one day but I seem to get distracted too easily.

Barbie - You ladies are definitely inspirations for me. Right now my "after" picture looks too much like my "before" pictures. I was going to include a now photo but they are on facebook and don't know how to get them to here.

DH surgery is on Tues. He has a laundry list of things he absolutely "must" get done before then. We went to our tune up today and hopefully it helps us through the next week or so. He said he wouldn't go again but agreed to go in November. I'm hoping that's a good sign and not because he didn't know how to say no.

DD is coming to work on painting our bedroom tomorrow. I'm hoping she can get it all done. I want to go shopping for new bedding.

Had a terrible day yesterday. Stayed home from work and slept about 18 hours. Feeling much better today.

Lots accomplished at work today although it was a lot of catch up.
Now I am remembering that I was supposed to convert one of the refund registers to cash. oh well, guess it will wait. Hope I remember how.
Good meeting with ASMs and one of the new mgrs.

Have not been out on Sparkle Orange for too long. Mayhap tomorrow.

    Night ladies

Thanks to everyone who has passed on information about contacting someone to advocate for me. I was thinking along the same line and we do have a Renters Rights group here in WA. Spent a lot of the day on the computer looking at rentals close to where I am and not so close. If I'm going to move I want to be happy with where I go so am also looking out of state. You just never know I could end up as your next door neighbor anywhere in these United States. Looking for a good place to raise children with a great school system and affordable rents. I have to admit the Halloween town sounds like a fun place to live! What's the real name of that town Katla? What's your year round weather like?

Thanks Barbie for posting the before and after pictures - what a wonderful transition!

Thanks to you Mary as well. Neither of you look like you have leftover skin hanging on your stomachs. No such luck here but then the hanging skin started with me after I had my first baby who was born caesarian 50 years ago.

The best weight loss group I ever attended was Over Eaters Anonymous. I did go to TOPS for a while but after the meetings the group would go out to eat and eat back everything they'd lost. I think a lot of times people start groups with the right intentions but somewhere along the line they forget what the purpose was and it just becomes a social group. Anyway I'm glad I'm here among friends who are supportive and helpful.

DGS#2 is going to spend the night with my DD#1. He is so excited. Both of my daughters are outgoing fun girls and the boys just adore them. He needs this time away from his bullying negative brother so he can feel good about himself. I started the boys back in therapy this week because this problem with DGS#1 has escalated and in addition he is rude and disrespectful to me (he is only 10 but going on 30). This too shall pass! I need this tatooed on me where I can see it all the time!

OK I'm getting off so someone else can talk - Love you all!spread-love-with-hugs.gif

Mary - the hurricane was on our news this morning and I have just googled it. I know you must be very anxious. I send all my hugs and really hope your son and his family stay safe. ((((((HUGS)))))

I will at least start on my tax this afternoon. I promise. >:)

Yesterday I bought a pack of mixed game from the butcher, so I will make a stew today with cider. Yum! The rest of the kale for a veg.

Mary in MN - Thinking about your loved ones in harm's way... Hurricane Patricia's winds are just beginning to really hit as I write this, and looking at the weather maps, even with the weather-critters' usual hyperbole, it's a big, bad storm. Hope they're well away from the coast.

Mary, I don't pray, but I can hope really, really hard and send good thoughts. How scary for everyone!

Heather, it was interesting that you suggested looking at why I would rather give stuff away than sell it. I suppose part of it is low self worth - that I feel like the stuff I make has no value. (My own father once referred to my pottery as junk.) And I'm a thwarted perfectionist and after I finish a piece I can ALWAYS find something about it that isn't perfect. So, I normally feel like a thief taking money for something I made. (Yes, I know that the imperfections are what makes it "hand made", but my brain doesn't quite accept it.) And I'm a people pleaser, so I like making people happy by giving them things. When I allow myself to fanticize, I think about winning the lottery and secretly giving away money. I have always wished there was a job for me where all I did was give money to people who need it. Plus, in the case of the Empty Bowls events, I feel obligated to donate more bowls than the friends that I've coerced into donating. If they donate ten, then I must donate 50. Somehow I feel like the whole event depends on me (boy, doesn't THAT sound self absorbed!). I'm sure there is more lurking deep in my subconscious, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I started feeling better last night, and this morning better yet. I hope it holds. Have a great day everyone.

Checking in.... Work has been hectic as we gear up for winter. I work in government transportation. Spent the last couple of days glued to my chair, getting storm tracking forms ready. This year the powers that be want to track response time to storms. Hopefully to cut back on public complaints about roads not getting cleared in time. REALLY!! in time for what? Everyone wants to be in the city in record time and if there is a few too many snow flakes on the road they are P.O'd. Slow down people, arrive safely!! Enough ranting... I think I have worked in the public service way too long.

Down time this weekend....off to a scrapbooking retreat for the weekend.

    Take care everyone

Will definitely keep them in our prayers. My sister went through Andrew (???) when it hit Miami. They had planned on staying with friends in Homestead the town that got hit head on; but, then decided to go north to another friend's house. She said she'd NEVER EVER go through another storm. Sounded like bombs were exploding in the house from trees and anything not tied down. She also said that the pictures shown on TV were nothing compared to what you saw at Ground Zero. They did not have any damage to their home; but, it did pull up all the trees in the yard. She said if they had 'voluntary' evacuations, she was leaving! No questions about it.

Will keep your family in our prayers!

I posted already this morning but don't find my post. GRRRR! I must have skipped a step posting, and I've deleted the post I wrote. Dang! :grumble:

Sylvia: I think you are awesome and possibly the world's best grandmother. I love your pottery based on the photos you've shared. Time to woman-up and realize what a wonderful person you are. :flowerforyou:

Mary from MN: Praying for your DS and his family. I hope they are safe.

Gloworm in WA: Saint Helens is across the river from Ridgefield, WA and about 25 miles or so NW of Portland. We moved here after our youngest graduated from high school so I have no personal experience with the public school system. I also have no idea about rental availability or cost. The nearest hospitals are in Portland & Longview. The local fire department has first-rate paramedics. They've saved DH's life twice when he was experiencing severe insulin reactions. We are happy here. Good luck with your housing situation. :flowerforyou:

I'm rethinking whether I have the courage to paint my own trim after the window installation is completed. It is the second story bedroom window that has me spooked. I may climb up on the scaffolding and see how confident I feel up there.

    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
    5. Eliminate alcohol.
    6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.

    morning peeps -

fanncy - sending positive thoughts to your loved ones, i was in a hurricane when we were in mexico, but i was about 17 so i was a little uninformed at the potential of what it can do to a beachside area. we all came out ok.

gloworminwa - hope you find someplace to go that is to your liking. are u looking for a house or apartment.

grandmallie - hope you feel better.

yesterday was 4weeks down with this sling thing. my hats off to people that only work out at home, it is a discipline to do it, when the cozy bed is upstairs. i haven't missed a day but still.

Mary I contacted you about Sunday before reading the posts. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. The sermon this week was on prayer and its power. If you are not up to meeting Sunday I understand.

Glo so sorry about your housing situation. It sounds like the home is full of mold. As hard as it is to move it does not sound healthy to live there. This happened to the house next door. The previous owners never replaced their 40 year old roof and water poured into the home. They were foreclosed on and left. The house was condemned but the new owners got around it and rented the home. I wish they had a test when you walk into a home or apartment that you could test for mold that is hidden. Prayers for finding a better living situation.

    Sylvia love the bowls.

Having trouble with a shoulder from a combination of sleeping on it wrong and overuse from computer and yard work. Thinking about the new choir. I do not know what it is about sopranos. We mostly sing the melody, but I sat between two woman who thought it was their job to tell me how I should sing. This happened at my other choir too. I do not do this. If I here someone sing a misplaced note I figure either they will correct it themselves and if they don't I am of the opinion the soul of what we are singing is more important to me than a missed note here or there. What I found interesting is both of them missed some of their own notes as they sang. I did not say a word to them. I reminding myself why I sing and not to let others take the joy out of singing for me. I need to remember just because someone throws the hook I do not need to bite.

There is the joke how many sopranos does it take to screw in a light bulb. One and ninety-nine to tell that one how to do it.
    Seems to fit unfortunately.

Mary I have my calories set at 1400, but usually eat around 1200. I don't eat exercise calories, as a rule. Prayers for your son and his family in the path of the hurricane. Fingers crossed that it misses them, or better still, blows itself out. Just read the update. So glad your son will be somewhere safer. I will keep them in my thoughts.

Grandmallie I hope things improve for you soon, health wise.

Pip Great midriff! You are a brave girl. I haven't posted a before picture yet but I will find one and put it out there! I tended to avoid camera shots or hide behind people, but I know there is a humdinger that Michael took at Niagara a couple of years ago that shows me in glorious wide angle vision.

    October Goals

    Week 3 Update

    Start weight: 220lbs (Spring 2014)
    Current weight: 167lbs
    Goal weight: 163lbs (for 31/10)

    Daily goals:
:star: Pre-log/follow through :) 7/7 I have pretty much been doing this since March as it is such a help in keeping carbs/fats/protein balanced.
    :star: balance carbs/protein/fat :) 7/7 see above
    :star: 8+ cups liquids 7/7
    :star: 30+ minutes each Strength/flexibility 7/7
:star: 6000+ steps daily 7/7 :) most days over 6500
:star: finish eating at 9pm weekdays 7/7
:star: finish eating at 10pm weekends 0/7 :) I haven't taken advantage of this leeway this week
:star: post daily goals/progress - Just for Today 7/7 Accountability is a great motivator for me
:star: post progress - No Late Night Snacking 7/7 :) I have now managed this for 59 days straight
:star: complete Hogwarts challenges 7/7 Theses are diet and exercises on a Harry Potter theme.
:star: Post weekly progress reports here 7/7 :)

Not doing so good on the actual weight loss. I typically plateau for a couple of weeks and then it suddenly goes over a day or two. I lost 1lb at the end of Week 1, but nothing since. Only 1 week left to hit my goal for the month! On the other hand, I have lost 0.5" each off my bust and hips.

I had Latin Study Group this morning and was worried that I would be behind as I was away last Friday. I was pleased that I could manage to keep up in translation. Then we had a Latin crossword to do (from The Times Newspaper). Even the girl who leads the group had problems with some of the clues. :)

Off to a Murder Mystery Dinner tonight. Will it be Miss Scarlet in the dining room with a knife? :)

Barbie – I can’t believe that is a before picture of you. Not even mentioning the body change, your face looks so much different. And I love your new haircut; so flattering. A beautiful transformation ! ! !

Becca – You dance- gurl ! ! ! I was both dancing and singing at work this morning (earbuds in, so I have no idea if anyone caught me, and don’t care).

Grits – Blessings for you, too. Thanks! ! !

    Kim
    – I’m glad you found a few minutes to read and post. I personally had all the childhood diseases as a baby (aunt and uncle are 4 and 6 years older and my mom was their primary caregiver). The problem that arose for me is that my Doctor’s office burned down, along with all the paper medical records, so I had to be immunized for EVERYTHING before I was allowed to start kindergarten. I’m sorry you had all of them as a teenager. Terribly traumatic, especially in high school. Hugs !

    Mary – Many hugs and Prayers ! ! !

Glo – Hugs for your grandsons. When my DD was 11 she escalated her negative yet manic behavior. Her teachers were even afraid of her. I took her to therapy weekly, which mostly just taught me how to act and react to her (her dad refused to participate, so he kept encouraging the same negative and dangerous behavior). I know you are doing your absolute best for those boys, and I’m happy for them that they have you and others in your family for emotional and physical support. Keep up the great work.

    Sylvia
    – very intuitive of you. I hope that realization will allow you to feel good about donating, instead of feeling imperfection. Yes, the slight imperfections are what makes it perfect at the same time, individual, special, whatever word you choose. I donate because I can. When we lost everything in the flood, then a few years later in the fire, people came out of the woodwork to help, and we got through it all with our faith and by leaning on each other. Then Hurricane Katrina hit the Golf Coast, and all the groups having fundraisers for us changed their minds and gave the money to the Katrina victims, but we survived without their assistance, which just shows our resilience and abilities. You deserve to feel good about your talents, so push your dad’s voice to the back of your brain, and do what feels right to you. I donate my hair every 2 years, my blood every 2 months, and my hats whenever someone asks (or I see a need). I’m not saving the world, but all those organizations do count on me, even in a tiny way that they don’t specifically realize. Sylvia, hold your head high and be proud. I am proud of you ! ! !

Lillian – I hear you, and I’m a commuter. I drive a tiny Cadillac that has rear-wheel drive. My car rarely makes it to the speed limit if there is any amount of snow on the road. I lived in the Upper Midwest my entire life, and know how to drive in bad weather. I leave for work early, because I know people are stupid, and my car has no traction. It’s just not my fault that the other people on the road aren’t smart enough to leave early. Hugs for you at your emotionally stressful job ! ! !

I sent a link to DH about 7 mile fair, and informed him that I am going on Sunday. He didn’t argue. That’s a step in the right direction. I also told DS that some vendors sell Nike clothes at good prices, so he may go along too. Also talked to DH about his diabetes for a short time last night. He sounds like he may eventually be talked into starting Metformin. He’s not quite there yet, but getting closer than our first conversations.

Margaret – sorry about the bossy sopranos. I just love to sing, and really don’t care if the people around me are bad, good, or great. I wish for you to find a singing group that is all about the fun and togetherness, instead of crabby and competition. We should do some karaoke together some time. Maybe I can go to Minnesota around Christmas, but right now we don’t have any other plans. Sad.

    Pip – HubbaHubba as usual.

Apologies to everyone that I missed. It has been a crazy day at work again, plus my sister kept me up 1/2 the night wanting to text about our stupid relatives in Illinois, and that makes my brain pretty scattered. I cherish you all ! ! !

    Hugs for Everyone ! ! !
