This being my first 6 months running and for sure my first monthly challenge on here I took advice and aimed for a low mileage goal. When I run this weekend I will pass my challenge and still have time to go more. It's hard to believe how good that feels.

@patrikc333 - oddly enough one of my running buddies works in a jail part time which leads to the usual early release jokes when he gets out in time to join for some afternoon runs.
Just an easy 3 miles yesterday mid afternoon in 80 degree heat w. 80% humidity before lifting - so much for the cooler Florida weather. Returning to the north today (wedding for a buddy this weekend), so I postponed my speedwork session to today.

Yesterday's run was tough. My legs never really felt good under me, which is such a mind f*** going into my race on Sunday. I'm trying to focus on the fact that I was able to push through, and pace actually was excellent (I think because I just wanted it OVER so I ran fast), but its hard to deal with the insecurities. My body hasn't felt 100% for nearly two weeks. I think I really, really need to focus on food and rest for the next few days. No dairy, lots of sweet potatoes and brown rice, and water. Its amazing how much a happy or unhappy gut can affect the rest of you.

Somebody_Loved wrote: »Today I was doing a treadmill run and got a horrible side stitch after about a mile and a half. I tried to run through it, focus on breathing and for some reason it didn't want to let up. I walked a bit after that and will get a run in tomorrow. The upside is that my hip and legs felt awesome today - foam rolling, stretching and relaxing have definitely helped!
Glad the hips and legs feel great today.

Slow recovery day. Paces on today's run: (9:24 9:22 10:03 10:06 10:56 {9:20 -only .79 miles})
As you can see, today's miles are much slower that yesterday's. Slow recovery days always follow my speedier days. This will help me get a greater effort on my long run for tommorow. I could have pushed it harder, but I allowed my body to dictate what the pace should be. As opposed to yesterday's run which my watch dictated what pace to run.
Variety in workouts and always run your easy runs easy so that you can run your hard runs harder.

Between the knowledge I've gain and the awesome support provided here, I know these monthly challenge threads have been one of the biggest factors in the success of my training. There have been several times I thought to ease up, be it to slow down in a race or to cancel a planned, but the thought of everyone here out getting it done has motivated me to keep going.
I know I'll be thinking about this great group when I'm running my half next weekend!

So I decided to rest today, combo of sore tooth, sore thighs and I need a long run tomorrow with the HM coming up in a few weeks. Plus well, the bed was feeling mighty good this morning. My poor Skip, it's the coaches job to let the front office know for the morning announcements of how clubs/teams did. She didn't even give them the meet info so they didn't announce her new school record. She said Mom I know it's bragging, but I wanted my name announced. I said it was on Facebook and twitter, she said can I post a pix of me running and say I broke the record on snap chat? I said sure if you are humble in your post.
@juliet3455 thank you on the kind words on Skip. She is really working hard this year, putting in extra miles, doing more speed work, core workouts. She has also decided she needs to do a field event to help with the chance of getting to run in college so she's going to try the triple jump in the Spring. I said you know you are 5' tall right? She said well it's that or the pole vault ha ha!!!! Coach said she's fast and is leggy so it's a good choice.
@acsl3 I didn't know about the custom headbands I need to go and look
@7lenny7 Great pace!
@patrikc333 new lamp sounds good
@suzu_2 you are thisclose to goal, great job this month
@smithie092015 you know what they say bad run during the week makes for a great run on the weekend. You have trained, trust that training, you'll do great

@Stoshew71 - Thanks for the links!
@tdbernrd - Admittedly I found the video hilarious, but I think running a marathon/half marathon - running general is something to be proud of! I'm running my first 5k on Sunday and you can bet I'll be giving myself props on Instagram.0 -
@tdbernrd I saw this today, too funny! I have to say when I decided to run my first HM I didn't tell anyone, except @stoshew71 because it made it so real. I told a few others when it got closer and then I facebooked the crap out of it after I was done LOL0 -
I'm in for 150 although it seems I'm late to the party. :-)0 -
Got in over three miles of walking so far today with sis in law, the baby, and dogs.
Yesterday I officially registered for my first 5k. Last day of week seven tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone running this weekend! Looks like rain here.. Hope it holds off until after the race!0

Super resistant to going out today, a bit moody and cranky. Had a nice run. At one point looked up and saw a large hawk turned golden by the setting sun above, wings spread wide. Still feeling moody but less cranky.

When I run this weekend I will pass my challenge and still have time to go more. It's hard to believe how good that feels.

It's under the link for Team Monogram. I think it's supposed to be where you can pick your favorite sports team, but it has a blank spot where you put the team name in and I put "Ho Ho Ho" instead. The most awesome part? I got an email saying they noticed I was doing a Christmas theme and did I want to switch my green color do a different one that's not on the website but they have it and it would fit the theme better. They just made a customer for life! I love awesome businesses like this that pay attention to the small details in one persons orderskippygirlsmom wrote: »

Haha, that's what I do too. With the exception of here, I don't talk about running much outside of my immediate family, but then after the race it's all over FB!
I don't think it's bad to talk about running or to give yourself props for it @tdbernrd - the only reason I don't talk about it is because I'm slow and I get embarrassed about that. I love it here, because I know no one cares that I'm slow, you all are just supportive no matter what, which is awesome. However, if I was faster - you bet I'd be talking about it more at work
7 miles in this morning. A bit stiff at the beginning, but after the first mile I always get into my groove and it feels very natural and better.

Good luck and have fun to everyone racing this weekend. I'm headed on a trip for a 5 day class next week, so I leave tomorrow on the plane and get back the 31st. I should have internet in the hotel so hopefully I stay up to date on everyone.
Not sure how much running I'll get in because I don't know the hours for the class and it'll be in an area I'm not familiar with which can make me nervous. But even if I'm not here much next week I'll be back in time for the beginning of the Nov thread0 -
A quick escape from the office at 4pm and nabbed 10km of trail run - up hill both ways- or at least that is how it felt. Top part of trail was a mud bowl and the shoes kept getting loaded up causing a serious loss of traction. not to mention bloody heavy. Will probably blow through my goal this weekend as we have 2 planned runs, Long run tomorrow and a shorty on Sunday. I could be hurting tomorrow because of the Mud Loading on the shoes today.
To all those racing this weekend - serious or fun runs - Enjoy the race events- Pre and Post.
