What nobody tells you about losing weight

Thank youHow, deadlifting 100 lbs, and having lost 107 (so far) makes you realize just exactly how significant the loss is. It was not easy to lift, yet I walked around with it every day.
This summer we went on vacation. The weight limit for suitcases was 50 pounds each and we had 2, each just under the limit. They were very heavy and I couldn't carry one very far at all, let alone 2!
I've lost 111 pounds so far and when I think of how heavy those suitcases are it really puts my health into perspective. Of course I felt like crap then! No wonder I feel so awesome now!
I'm working on unpacking my 3rd and final suitcase now!
That's another great example. And congratulations on all your "unpacking"

So much yes! i love mens pants just for the pockets. i like to wear carpenter shorts just because of that! lol1 -
I have to remind myself of this sometimes, at my lowest, I had lost 125-130 pounds, I gained some back, but I have kept over 100 pounds off. My trainer had me do farmers carries - with 50 pounds in each hand. That was heavy...no wonder I feel so much better and can do so much more.

And I love lying in bed and raising my leg and running my hand over the muscles as I flex them. I haven't seen those muscles since I was in high school, and my ankles look so tiny to me... can't wait to see what they look like when I lose the rest of the weight!

That a good quality, well-fitting bra is life-changing. Part of my transformation is realizing that I'm worth the good $50 bras instead of the cheapo ones I've bought my entire life... and discovering that a good, supportive, well-fitting bra gives you a better waistline and makes exercise more comfortable.7

Feeling guilty in the check-out line if you have processed foods or junk foods in your grocery cart. Conversely, feeling oddly good when you have fresh veggies and fruit.
Yes! I think about that all time. I never use to feel guilty about all the junk food in my cart. I just thought it was normal. Now I feel so good about putting all my veggies and fruit on the conveyor belt.

That I will still hate working out! I really thought I would start to be like some of you on here who starts to actually enjoy working out. I still dread it but still drag myself to the gym 3-4 times a week.
Try finding workouts you like? Like, at first I hated working out because things like running and most cardio (I.e. Going on a treadmill or elliptical for 30-60 min) bore the ever living day lights outta me but I find that when I have a goal I can work for (touching my toes or getting into a pose I couldn't before in yoga, lifting more weights and getting closer to the bubble butt I want, and being able to swim faster and for longer) I find that I WANT to work out and LOVE seeing the gains I've made which just makes me want to work out more just an idea3 -
How people want to know your "secret". And how disappointed when you say you just pay attention to what you eat.
How people think you are losing weight because you are exercising so much and don't believe when you say it actually isn't and 80 to 90% is actually due to paying attentiont to what you eat
And this: a bit like the water weight and you'll get it all back during the holiday comments: How although you've already lost some already, most people strongly doubt that you'll ever get to a much lower weight. If they've know me for a while they go "when have you EVER been this small" (I was like size 8, 5 years ago). And people who've always known you at a higher weight just show their very skeptical face2 -

^^This! It's so funny when people mention that they've noticed I've lost weight and ask me what I've been doing, because invariably, after I say "I've been eating less and moving more," they give me this blank look like they were expecting something revolutionary.

Yes to collar bones!!!! After a 70+ loss mine are just beginning to show. Still have 25 lbs to go... I never knew how excited I could get about a bone in my body!1

My xiphoid process is visible. Not liking it, it's too bony. My collar bones were first visible if I hunched my shoulders, now they stay visible and I swear I spend too much time looking at them in the mirror. I also noticed this week, if I move my arms up and down I can see a faint outline of my ribs on my upper chest. And I've become acquainted with my coccyx.
Apparently, I now spend too much time feeling myself3 -
That I have acquired so many countering strategies to keep myself on track. I use them all but I still slip through the fence sometimes. I catch my self and start it all again. lol No one thing is going to get me through this and beyond!3

This is a very profound thought. It isn't just one thing, is it? It's so many things, one built on the next that add up to success.
When things aren't going well you have to go back and figure out what piece you are missing.

Just lost 40 lbs (196 to 156) in a few months grocery shopping 3 times a week at 3 different stores, in the kitchen for 2 hours a day (cooking, meal prepping, dishes, etc.), and going to the gym 5 days a week, and all the ladies be like "it's so easy for men to lose weight."

Layers are your friend! I heard that once you lose weight you are cold all the time but I also heard that you re-acclimate. Two years and 100+ pounds down, I am still cold all the time!
Also, buying clothes size small clothes NEVER gets old.2 -

That you will start doing things you never thought yourself capable of. Like going back to school to get a degree, or jumping out of a perfectly good plane to fulfill your bucket list, or training for a triathlon. No regrets for this lady!
This is exactly why I haven't given up. I've wasted so many years of my life. Blew through my 20's without really accomplishing anything and never did anything to remember. Now that I'm in my 30's, it's time to start going out there and being one bad mofo12 -
Small things like having a tailbone that makes sitting in a car or Ina plane for long periods of time quite painful.
I know it's been said but my knobby knees knocking together when I lay down.
Being very comfortable with no shirt on (my wife laughs about that one)
I have ribs for gods sake
One major one is patients and friends asking behind my back if I have cancer or something. And yes people don't always believe it's as easy as counting calories and exercise.

This is new for me but picking up a small sized piece of clothing makes me giggle every time. I was a 3X when I started this weight loss journey and it never occurred to me that "small" was possible. I was aiming for medium and didn't think that was going to happen until I hit my goal (still not there yet). I work in scrubs and recently was able to fit into extra smalls (they aren't made well, putting on the same size two days in a row will fit so differently like you gained ten pounds that day). They're color coded with the drawstrings and I make sure an inch or two is visible under the shirt

That after losing 5-7 lbs. each time your hormones and hormone meds will react: my OBGYN said, '...less mass, but same amount of chemicals in your dosage.'
I need pain medication less often for hormonal or tension headaches.
I found FiberOne bars supply my dessert desires.
My kids are a great help: serving me proper portions, complimenting me and getting me to exercise when I'm tired, & inventing snacks my restricted diet can accept!
Restaurants are getting better about offering healthy and great tasting alternatives, though dairy plagues me everywhere.
Exercise is not as easy in your 40s, and it is a necessity, but it doesn't have to be a long or heavy workout either.

I love to jog to Zumba on Pandora but so much of the the lyrics ...make me... blush ....and it seems so wrong to alternate between Zumba and Gospel! I really would love to have PEPPY Christain!
