It was a cold and snowy 5k on Saturday, but I still managed to drag myself into the cold and ran. Luckily, the race was at 9am and the snow didn't really start to stick to the pavement until the afternoon. It was a little slippery and I was just happy I made it through without falling. Here's hoping that the one I have this week has better weather conditions.

Fourth straight day being sick. I'm ready to tap out now and let someone else test their immune system. No running, not even walking, I feel like a blob. A big fat snotty blob.0

and @snha Just need to know if it also records walks as I can't run for a few more weeks.. If it does I'll give it a go! Some apps don't record walks which is a pain. Some apps don't record walks which is a pain.
Unless I just record my walks as 'run' but they will just look like really slow runs!
I couldn't see any walk option so will be a slow run (probably not much slower than my actual runs lol). It is a free app so worth a go. Strava is also free and does a job.

Congratulations @beachhouse758 !!! Very well done!
I can't wait to finish C25K myself. I've done two 25 minute runs and nearly 4K all up of a 5K this week, so maybe in a week or two.0

@dharwood68 - here is my shitzu mix. I don't think he could go 1/2 a mile with me. Amazed yours can! I am thinking of getting a running dog partner one of these days. But it would have to be able to stand the Florida heat.
The rescue place suggested a Rhodesian Ridgeback because they are from Africa, but I think they said that because they had a bunch of puppies of that breed ready to be rescued. I can't get one until school's out, so I will be home to train him/her.
He is so sweet. I want to hold him. 0 I want to hold him. 0

Didn't sleep well at all last night so had to reset alarm - didn't think running on a few hours sleep would be a good idea after remembering one of @Stoshew71's posts on rest. But I did run after work. Wow, I could really get used to the afternoon runs. Maybe I could do that for the 3 months of nice weather we get here. It was about 65 and had an awesome run - plus it was daylight! Resting tomorrow.

Having some computer problems at the moment.. Laptop is too old and is struggling with the last few windows updates eek! Trialling the Nike app at the moment and really liking it so far! It did drop out a few times on yesterdays walk but I'm not sure if that's because I had it sitting in the pocket of the pram.. If something was pausing it or if it was just losing gps here and there.
 Hope everyone is smashing it!!0

I don't know why, but it felt impossible to get out and run today. I finally did, but man I was not feeling it! Posting on here has definitely helped me see how often I opt for an easy, short run, over a more challenging run. I've got a 5K coming up mid December and I'm hoping to PR. OOF. I am in some pain...yesterday was squats and lunges and this may have been a little aggressive of a run for right after. On the other hand, I did get to watch the entirety of "Bring It On". Where are my pompoms?! On the other hand, I did get to watch the entirety of "Bring It On". Where are my pompoms?!

Was considering joining one of the local race groups for an interval workout, but after my long run last night, I decided a slower easy recovery run with a neighbor would be a better solution as the weather was just too perfect tonight to rest (50s, less wind). I know a 96 mile week is out of the question, but I should be able to get in some solid mileage up north when visiting family later this week.

@skippygirlsmom - I am so sorry about your friend. I hope both you and Skip are doing ok. My thoughts are with you both and with your friend's family.
@ddmom0811 - Your little guy is so cute, I just want to snuggle him! Vizslas are similar in build to a Rhodesian Ridgeback just much smaller (only ~45lbs). They are also great runners and many train to run with trail bikes. Here is a little video of one of my favorites - Ruby the Trail Dog. As you can see from this, Hobbes running with me is more like a fast walk for him https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5u3GRKhHUU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5u3GRKhHUU
@karef - I use MapMyRun and it has an option to set for a walk. The app also tracks your shoe mileage, courses, etc.. I like it and it seems to work ok.
@moyer556 - relax and just have fun at your race, you will be just fine!
@9voice9 - Congratulations on your race and AG place! That is awesome!
@Stoshew71 and @9voice9 - I actually do run on the shoulder of the road (bike lane or parking lane) against traffic because it is safer for me than on the sidewalks. Our sidewalks rarely get cleaned and there is too much crap on them and too much unevenness. The street is better maintained and cleaned weekly! I have fallen twice while on the sidewalk, once breaking my arm at the elbow and the other breaking a bone in my hand. I will stick to the street, thank you
@juliet3455 - love that meme - I too may print it out for my wall!
 @virkati - you definitely are a runner!
@kristinegift - Congratulations on your marathon PR! Even if it wasn't as fast as you were hoping it is still a huge accomplishment!
@beachhouse758 - Congrats on finishing C25K! Good luck on your race and have fun with it!!
I hope everyone who is not feeling well is getting on the road to recovery soon!
No run for me today. I spent the day taking care of our elderly friend who had to go back into the hospital for more surgery. I took a recovery walk on the beach Sunday and will go for my recovery run tomorrow. I am still hoping to make my goal this month but it is going to be tough.

I feel like Cujo. today was the toughest run ever. 2hours and 7 min under constant heavy rain and wind. no energy, woke up really well and pain free, happiness lasted for 100m, leg started to hurt immediately (the contrary of what normally happens, xxxx it, I'm so fed up with it that now I decided that I'll run forever, pain or no pain). that damned drizzle was horizontal, really, it was magnetically directed inside my eyes. and never stopped, NEVER. And I want to sue the council, some footpath are in a awful state. As a result of this, my shoes/feet got soaked immediately - in water but also in disgusting mud - but more importantly I pulled a muscle on my back thanks to a pothole. then of course my GPS went crazy, deciding that 1km lap mark was every 0.5 km, so I lost completely track of my pace. obviously when you are exhausted and the last 2 km are uphill, what's better than a strong wind that almost stops you?
I was late as a consequence of all above and hit the traffic, my commuting lasted for only 1h 40 minutes, having also to change gear with my damned leg probably a million of times.
as you can see I'm in really good spirit and enjoyed my run this morning 0 0

Uff, just managed to catch up the last 50+ posts!
@kristinegift I'm sorry to read your marathon didn't go as you had hoped. But you got a new PR anyway - that's super impressive!
@Stoshew71 Than you for sharing 180 bmp running songs! I'll try to put some of those onto my phone before my next run.
@shanaber Great HM - running all hills, including the monster, is really something to be proud of.
@Ohhim sounds like a chaotic organisation - but great time anyways, so congrats on the PR
@patrikc333 Sorry that you had such a disappointing run this morning. I guess it is a bad moment to admit I just had to laugh at what you wrote abut the wind yesterday? But that sounds so familiar. It seems that every single time I look forward to wind on my back for the second half of my run, the wind decides to turn! What kind of gloves do you use? I have a pair of Gore Mythos gloves , and until now, they've always kept my hands warm.
@beachhouse758 Kudos on completing C25K!! If you have your first 5K on Thursday, I'd probaly do a really short & easy run on Wednseday. Yoga sounds nice too. Or just be "lazy" and rest ;-)
@skippygirlsmom I am so sorry for your loss
@5BeautifulDays I hope you feel better and manage to escape the cold and tummy bug
It seems winter is finally here, but I'm not quite used to it yet. Yesterday I was nearly late for work because I hadn't counted on having to scape all the ice from my car; and this morning I had to cut my run short because I went out without a hat and my ears were FREEZING.
There was a really beautiful sunrise to make up for the cold. Sadly, I didn't really manage to capture it in a photo with my phone (especially the cute pink mini-clouds seem to have disappeared), but I'll post it anyway:
I really like watching the sky getting brighter. Kind of sad that soon both either before as well as after work will be in the dark.0

            @_nikkiwolf_
I tried adidas thermo and different karrimor thermo (both wind and thermo resistant), thanks for the suggestion, I asked in the past but had no advice, so I'll look into yours
got reynold's so I hope I can find something that works, it's not a nice feeling when you feel your index finger bends out (and it's also bigger than a sausage) 0 0

Have you tried something like this:
 Heated Gloves
If you have Raynauds then conventional gloves won't be of much use. You will probably need something which has an independent heat source such as a battery.

@shanaber - I loved that video. I would be so afraid of running into the dog and wrecking my bike. I didn't realize Vizslas are only around 45 lbs. Yes, my dog would definitely be doing more of a trot, than run as well.
@patrikc333 - sorry you had such a bad time of it. Sounds awful, your description made me laugh but not at your misfortune. You just have a way with words. Sure hope the pain gets worked out.
@ohhim - The Florida "cold" we are experiencing is so great! I hated that today was a rest day when it is so perfect for running.

I am sore in so many places!! One more rest day before I try to knock out some of these aches by doing some stationary biking. In the mean time, I'm counting my walk to and from campus (~1 mile each way) as my "active recovery," lol. Doing lots of google searches on how to rehab my hamstring and starting to make a strength and XT plan for December/January since I won't be doing much running until I fix this hammie (which is the ONLY part of me that isn't sore, btw, since it didn't actually do much of anything during the marathon... what a turd).

            11/1 - rest day / Halloween Hangover
 11/2 - 5.25 miles, 55° at 5:30 a.m. in Iowa! Nuts, but I love it!
11/3 - 4 miles on indoor track followed by weights / abs. After running mostly outside for six months, you can run pretty fast on a flat, indoor surface.
11/4 - 5.1 miles, again about 55° at 5:00 a.m. Getting spoiled by the weather!
11/5 - woke up with some major heel pain...a touch of plantar fasciitis perhaps. Decided to take my rest day early and try again tomorrow.
11/6 - 4 miles on indoor track + weights / abs. Heel feeling better, but not completely pain free.
 11/7 - 6 miles on a gorgeous morning!
11/8 - 4 miles on another gorgeous day! Tried to get my daughter to come with, but she just wanted to walk...so I did that first.
11/9 - 4 miles on indoor track, followed by lots of stretching
 11/10 - Rest Day.
11/11 - 4 miles on indoor track, then weights and abs.
11/12 - 5.1 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...always seems to be the most difficult run of the week.
11/13 - Unplanned rest day due to catastrophic appliance failure in my home
11/14 - 6.2 chilly but lovely miles in DSM...running out of these kinds of days I am afraid.
11/15 - 4.7 beautiful miles around my neighborhood...lots of stinky female gingko trees
 11/16 - planned rest day
11/17 - 4 miles on indoor track, with weights and abs after (soggy, rainy day here...definitely November)
11/18 - 5 miles before it started dumping cold rain again. Not sure why, but this was a GREAT run! Felt good, relaxed, enjoyed the damp, windy and warm-for-November weather. Runs like this are super!
11/19 - 5 miles on treadmill (Trek class)...lots of speed work
11/20 - 0. It appears I caught a cold from @skippygirlsmom Decided to take it easy to make sure I have the energy to deal with the 5-10" of snow coming our way this afternoon. Decided to take it easy to make sure I have the energy to deal with the 5-10" of snow coming our way this afternoon.
11/23 - 4 miles on indoor track, weights and abs after. Cannot remember the last time I went 3 days in a row without running. Totally lazy this weekend. Closest thing to a workout was shoveling the driveway for an hour on Saturday.
11/24 - 4 miles on indoor track + 5 miles on stationary bike
 Upcoming Races:
 2/13/16 - Red Flannel Run 5 mi
 4/24/16 - Hy-Vee Road Races Half
 6/4/16 - Dam To Dam Half0

got reynold's so I hope I can find something that works,
Have you tried something like this:
 Heated Gloves
If you have Raynauds then conventional gloves won't be of much use. You will probably need something which has an independent heat source such as a battery.
I tried the stuff you put on the microwave - just for walks - but it didn't work
my hands are completely useless after a cold run, cannot remove my shoes, clothes etc, plus I already broke a few bowls pouring cereals everywhere on the floor 0 0

 Upcoming Races:
 5/1/16: New Jersey Marathon
Google "reverse taper from marathon". Good luck! You deserve all the rest. It will take about 3 weeks to fully recover and maybe a week before you can even think about a slow jog.0

@kristinegift sounds like a good plan. I can sympathize with this nasty case of piriformis syndrome. Which is just one layer of my onion. Smart to address it before it becomes chronic or leads to something more serious..
Hey runners- I think I have a sprained big toe. The same area that usually indicates gout. I have increased my pace, my gait is off, and I'm rehabing muscle imbalance. I'm almost sure it the pacing and push off.
10k Thursday. Any ideas what I can do to help it along? Or rule out gout, which I'm sure it just couldn't be. It's not red, doesn't get worse at night. It's worse with use.
 Thanks.
Edit: I may spring for a stiffer shoe?0
