Runkeeper kept pausing on my walk today.. Every few mins the lady would say I had paused my activity and I had to keep telling the app to continue, even though the screen said it was still recording my walk. It's never played up before so I'm not sure now

Hmm, sounds like the new update is full of bugs and glitches. Definitely time for a new app I think! I'll try Nike again and see how I get on. I used to use it before I took running seriously and used to like it.

I bought a heart rate monitor and using various calculations I see online an easy run should have me around 120 -137 or 139 -152 depending on the method. I am 37 with a resting heart rate of 60. When I jog at 7-7.5kph my heart rate is 155-158. Any advice on what it should be for an easy run and what it should be for a slightly faster but reasonably long run?

I had an unplanned run today and it was awesome! It was raining so we couldn't bike. Was barely drizzling but on a bike, that's just no good. Anyway, I tried the app RockMyRun and loved it! It uses your heartbeat to pick the songs and what I liked is you didn't necessarily hear the whole song. It would just transition into a new song. Runner's HIGH for me! And only two days of school this week! My students took 2nd place at the programming competition yesterday too. I better just get off this cloud I'm on.

I have created a monster out of our little Shiatsu mix. She sees me getting my running shoes and turns into a maniac. Looks like I have a running buddy for my regular runs.
    :D
One of the ladies in our local running club was dog sitting for a friend ( ? terriers (Black/Grey) that look like a Shiatsu ) and those 2 little Short legged dogs just love running on the Bush trails. 7/8 km runs and they are fast. We now call her Joan Jett and the Black Hounds ( she is a music teacher named Joan and increased her speed [Jett] by quite a bit due to the hounds ). Surprised me how well behaved they were and they were leash trained to stay on the right side of the trail so no crossover trip line. :)

@dharwood68 - here is my shitzu mix. I don't think he could go 1/2 a mile with me. Amazed yours can! I am thinking of getting a running dog partner one of these days. But it would have to be able to stand the Florida heat.
The rescue place suggested a Rhodesian Ridgeback because they are from Africa, but I think they said that because they had a bunch of puppies of that breed ready to be rescued. I can't get one until school's out, so I will be home to train him/her.

Nope. We all have different physiology. My resting HR is 53 and Max is 211. I'm 45F, 125lbs, 5'5". A good, comfortable HR for me is 165-180 (8:3-9:5 pace), depending on the temps.

My advice is to track it, and set your individual HR zones.

Need to run way more if I am to meet my goal. Very doubtful as of now :(

    11/1 4.71 miles
11/2 no run—elliptical for an hour though!
11/3 5.27 miles — lake path. here are a couple of pictures!
11/4 no run--elliptical for an hour.
11/5 4 miles--nice run, but my left calf decided to go crazy today for some reason! I did finish my run, although the last mile was painful, like a cramp, but not fully :(
11/7 7 miles--wonderful run, felt so comfortable and happy since I thought I won't be able to make the run
    11/8 no run--one-hour elliptical instead
    11/9 5.19 miles--cold, 28 degrees, but a great run!
    11/10 elliptical
11/11 rest day--trip out of town for five days that made running difficult
    11/12 4.71 -- trip somewhat made
    11/13 none
    11/14 none
    11/15 none
    11/16 5--back to town. Yes!
11/17 none. forced rest day bc of work!
    11/18 5.19 -- good run
    11/19 rest day
    11/20 no run--elliptical day
    11/21 no run--elliptical day
11/22 5.13 -- on the snow for the first time, was a really good run!

Since it is such a Beautiful Day a group of us are going into the North Hills this afternoon Trail Scouting / Maintenance and marking. Its a lot easier to see the best lines and Trail Building routes when all the leaves are off the trees. Trying to link 3 different trails to make some circle routes.

Can anyone use Nike or do you need the shoe chip? Does it record walks? I used to use Endomondo though it started cutting out on me and the fitbit app used to seize up if Igot a text or the song changed etc.

I downloaded Strava though it ddoesn'trecord walks by the looks of it

Nike works without chip if you use an iPhone as it has gps etc. Think you only need chip if using older iPod or suchlike.

Haven't been on the boards in the past week. Had a huge inspection at work early last week and then some personal stuff happened in addition to a busy work week. Now I have >300 posts and 12 pages to read through :o

I only ran a couple of times this past week and only have 11.2 miles to add to my ticker. *Sigh* sometimes life gets in the way I guess. Hopefully I'll still be okay for my HM coming up - I'll end up walking some, but I'm okay with that. Better to not push too hard and get injured.

Hope everyone is doing well and I'll catch up eventually

    11/15: 10 miles
    11/16: 4 miles
    11/17: Rest
    11/18: 6 miles
11/19: 3 miles with the Thurdsay crew
    11/20: Rest
    11/21: 3 miles easy peasy
    11/22: 26.5 miles -- Philadelphia Marathon: PR 4:02:32

Counting the race as 26.5 because the course ran fairly long long. From the third mile marker and on, I was coming to the marker .25 or more after my watch buzzed. By the end of the race, this was torture, as the race did NOT go as planned.

That hamstring I've been worrying over? Simply put, it's overstretched and not firing properly, so I expected some soreness due to compensating for it, but what happened instead was after the two hills of the marathon (miles 8 and 9), during which my calves/quads made up for my hammies entirely, I could not pick the pace back up. Then by mile 15/16, I was getting full-on cramps in my quads, calves and feet, forcing me to walk at least once per mile. I had been on a solid 8:00 pace for the first 10k, feeling really great (the pace didn't even feel hard at all!), but after the cramps started I basically just wanted to be able to finish. I had almost veered off with the HM course, but figured that I'd have a few slow miles and bouce back. But I was very, very wrong. I was not fatigued at all or mentally "checked out" for any of it, unlilke my previous marathons; I just could not get my legs to move faster than a 9:30-10 pace due to the cramping. Some teammates ran with me from 24.5 to almost the finish, and they didn't let me walk, bless their souls, which was amazing, because I would never have managed even this tiny PR without them. I had been aiming for a 3:32 and BQ, which would have been totally within my grasp before this hamstring issue. Instead, I came in at 4:02:32, which is a 2:07 PR, rather than the 32 minute PR I'd been aiming for. But given how painful this marathon was, I will take it! I know I have a 3:30 in me, I just need to avoid overstretching my hammie in yoga 2 weeks before race day next time!!!

@kristinegift great PR even if it wasn't what you were looking for. Darn hamstring.
    @ddmom0811 great run!

Rest day today - well drive day 10+ hours on the road to see my Mom. Talked to one of my dear friends, her hubby has been fighting cancer for about 6 years. He hasn't been doing well and looks like only a few more days at most. He and Skip are very close. We will head to the other coast to see them. If you're so inclined please say a prayer for them.

and @snha Just need to know if it also records walks as I can't run for a few more weeks.. If it does I'll give it a go! Some apps don't record walks which is a pain.

Unless I just record my walks as 'run' but they will just look like really slow runs!
