A slow 14 km ( 1:45 ) run through the North Hills with the local running club and a couple from Grande Prairie who made the trip over ( 2 hr drive ) just to do a run- not sure if that's dedication or crazy. They joined the Long Run Group and did another 7km after we stopped for a full 21km. There comment was that they just don't have the incredible variety of Terrain that we do - Blessing and curse of the River Bank trails. Really enjoying our "No Snow" winter so far as normally these trails would be closed or on very limited terrain. Only 6-10cm ( 3-4 in ) of snow and it has just the perfect texture - crunchy - so you really feel safe with your stride. Two of the six North facing hills were a little sketchy but no one fell and no one felt the need to Butt Slide down a hill - the trails were fantastic - an enjoyable morning with friends. Coffee and Cinnamon Buns after the run.

    @Elise4270

I find karrimor a good compromise between cost and quality (just been @ nike store, £90 for a pair of leggings!)

I've got leggings, lond sleeve shirt like this and a new jacket that is super good. The jacket has a hood, otherwise I was using a cap. plus gloves

to be fair the best leggings I love to use are Nike (I bought them in sale) but I don't recall the model

    everything is windproof and waterproof

Thanks everyone for the sympathetic comments on my toe!
48 hours later, it's not so bad anymore. As long as I don't move, it hardly hurts at all, and I found that walking around in sandals is also okay. Too bad it's -1°C out right now - I had to go for the combination of sandals + warm woolen socks to take a short walk today, very fashionable B)

@Orphia I don't have any special must-have running gadgets on my wish list. Last year I got a running belt for Christmas (to take phone and a little water on long runs in the summer). This year I asked for some long-sleeved running shirts (I moved to a colder area, I think some extra fleece under the jacket will come in handy).
And I also want stuff that blinks for better visibility in the darkness, but I was going to buy that right away rather than run the next month in the dark. Depending on how long I'll have to take a break for my toe, I could probably wait until Christmas - or maybe I'll compensate for not running by buying running stuff, we'll see ;-)

@Elise4270 against the rain, I have a rain jacket from Decathlon that keeps me dry in nearly all conditions - after 90 minutes of torrential rain it starts leaking at the seams, but for shorter runs or normal rain it's fine. But it's not a warm jacket, so it might not be what you are looking for.
The fact that it's a vest + a sleeve-hood-thingy drives me insane occasionally, when I'm in a hurry to put it on and get tangled in it, but I'm still a fan of it because it is the only jacket I've ever found where the hood turns properly with my head - I hate it when I want to look to the side and find myself staring at the inside of the hood, and that seems to happen with all other jackets I've had so far.

@beachhouse758 Sounds like you had a really nice first race, congratulations!

@Amandajs232 Kudos on running such a long distance.

my hamstring is still a piece of junk. It's not as weak as it was right before the marathon, but not as healed as I hoped it would be after such an easy week. Oh well. Hopefully 1-2 weeks from now it will be 100%!

Hoping your hamstring recovers soon! Are there some stretches you can do to help it recover? I don't know much about it, but maybe YouTube some exercises? I've been doing ankle exercises from YouTube to try and help prepare for running again.. So there may be something helpful there for you too

I injured it stretching, so now I have to strenghten it. I've got a list of exercises, so now it's just being diligent now that I'm not too sore from the marathon to do them. :) Hope your ankle is healing up well!!

@_nikkiwolf_ thanks for the info. I have a thin non-running wind breaker that worked okay today for the light rain. I'll check out the one you use. I can just about assure you that I'll pass on the torrential rains... Although, I didn't mind today's rain run.

Edit I tried to order it but no luck since I'm in the US... Least on mobile its not working.

Really emotional today.. Just so mad at myself for not caring for my skin better when I was younger. Looked at my scar for the first time and it is a good 4cm at the moment. I know having the extra tissue removed on Wednesday is the best thing of course.. I am just really upset I didn't care for things more when I was younger.
Tempted to try a jog on todays walk but I will wait until later this week and see how I feel.
Not attempting weights today as the cut from having a mole removed is between my shoulder blades and any movement by my arms backwards or up isn’t comfortable. I dare say, no weights for a few weeks now.. Can’t wait to go for that jog! I think back about it and I have usually gone for a run if/when I hear some bad news so the fact that I cannot run now is really getting to me.. Walking is good for me, I know but it’s just not the same as going for a run.. Does that make sense?

Absolutely loving the cooler weather as I ran another 10.5 miles tonight in some sub-freezing temperatures. I'm still amazed at how fast I've been going at my "recovery" heart rate range. I'm not looking forward to returning to the hot south tomorrow as the highs are back in the 80s, but I'll try to sneak in a run in the AM, then go run with a neighbor in the evening after returning home.

    11/1 - 4 miles
    11/2 - 4 miles
    11/3 - 9 miles
    11/4 - 6 miles
    11/6 - 2 miles
    11/8 - 6.2 miles
    11/9 - 4 miles
    11/10 - 11 miles
    11/11 - 5 miles
    11/12 - 11 miles
    11/14 - 3 miles
    11/15 - 15 miles (w. 1:32:46 LV half marathon)
    11/17 - 7 miles
    11/18 - 4 miles
    11/19 - 8 miles
    11/21 - 4 miles
    11/22 - 16 miles
    11/23 - 5 miles
    11/24 - 8.5 miles
    11/26 - 12.5 miles
    11/27 - 10 miles
    11/28 - 10.5 miles

    Total: 165.5 miles
    Target: 220 miles

11/1 3.1 @ 11:15 outside in the neighborhood in the rain
    11/2 rest
11/3 5.0 @ 10:59 on the treadmill (plus a 1 mile walk and strength training)
11/4 8.2 @ really really slow (16:04) riking (run-hiking, steep, covered with inches of leaves and treacherous fun)
11/5 4.0 @ 12:30 recovery run plus .5 walk on the park trail
    11/6 3.25 @ 10:53 on the treadmill (really 3.0 at 10:28, plus .25 at a walk) plus strength training.
    11/7 Rest/Life Day

    11/8 Rest/Life Day
11/9 5.5 @ 12:30 on the park trail with the doggy--who really enjoyed rolling around in the leaves!
    11/10 2.5 @ 11:38 (really 2.25 at 11:07 and a .25 walk) around the neighborhood in the rain.
    11/11 6 @ 11:32 on the treadmill (really 5 at 11:00 and 1 at a fast walk/jog) plus strength training
11/12 7 @ 11:45 (this is really like 5 at 10:50 and the rest a little slower), plus 1 at a walk on the treadmill. I am in some pain...yesterday was squats and lunges and this may have been a little aggressive of a run for right after. :( On the other hand, I did get to watch the entirety of "Bring It On". Where are my pompoms?!
    11/13 2 @ 13ish walk/running the dog for my recovery run.
    11/14 Rest day

    11/15 4.5 @ 11:18 in the neighborhood--it was a gorgeous day for a run!
11/16 5.0 @ 10:51 around the lake trail--my fastest outdoor run yet, in spite of a slow start. The 4th mile split was 9:44!!!!!!!OMG!!!
    11/17 3.5 @ 10:32 (really 3 @ 10:17 and .5 at 12:00) on the treadmill, and strength training
    11/18 7.5 @ 12:06 on the park trail (really 7 @ 11:53 and .5 at a walk)
    11/19 3.25 @ 11:18 on the treadmill (really 3 at 10:56 and .25 at a walk)
    11/20 5.0 @ average 11:59 (intervals) plus strength training
    11/21 Rest Day

11/22 Rest Day to celebrate my baby girl's 11th birthday
    11/23 4.75 @ 12:06 (4 @ 11:30, .75 at a walk) on the park trail with Wooly Dog. Feeling yuck. :(
    11/24 Travel/head cold day
11/25 5 @ 12:01 on the Perkiomen trail with the Wooly Dog who is afraid of deer. Beautiful, and I'm feeling a lot better today and looking forward to Thanksgiving with the family tomorrow.
11/26 Ate too much pie and did nothing useful but had a lovely time!
11/27 Only ate a *little* too much pie and enjoyed the family's first trip to a Christmas tree farm to pick out and bring home a "real" tree. My kids were enthralled! Again, no running. But a good day anyway--we brought home a beast of a tree--over 9 feet tall!--to fit my aunt's two-story family room ceiling.
11/28 5 @ 11:30 on the Perkiomen trail--it was a good run, although slow at the beginning with tight knees. The question is, will I get out one last time tomorrow? :)

Last day of the closed fitness center! Hallelujah! Tomorrow, that bike is mine!

Today, I took my thigh compression sleeve out for a test run. I've been wearing it during day-to-day activities, but not running. And I think I'll avoid wearing it for runs in the future. I've always found compression to be too tight while running and it makes things ache and hurt that otherwise wouldn't. It did, however, help my hamstring quite noticeably, but I think I can get the same benefit wearing it while not exercising.

    5/1/16: New Jersey Marathon

Absolutely loving the cooler weather as I ran another 10.5 miles tonight in some sub-freezing temperatures. I'm still amazed at how fast I've been going at my "recovery" heart rate range.

I've found that too. Where I was struggling to run 3 miles non-stop in the heat, I'm now turning out 5-6 miles no problem at a faster pace in the cold.

Pay off for running in the cold ;) PR!

@karef I cannot pretend to know what you're going through, but when i go through similar sorts of emotions and when i notice that i am being hard on myself, I keep reminding myself to be at least as kind to myself as i am to friends, family members, or even strangers. And, here is to you and to the best outcome!

    11/1 4.71 miles
11/2 no run—elliptical for an hour though!
11/3 5.27 miles — lake path. here are a couple of pictures!
11/4 no run--elliptical for an hour.
11/5 4 miles--nice run, but my left calf decided to go crazy today for some reason! I did finish my run, although the last mile was painful, like a cramp, but not fully
11/7 7 miles--wonderful run, felt so comfortable and happy since I thought I won't be able to make the run
    11/8 no run--one-hour elliptical instead
    11/9 5.19 miles--cold, 28 degrees, but a great run!
    11/10 elliptical
11/11 rest day--trip out of town for five days that made running difficult
    11/12 4.71 -- trip somewhat made
    11/13 none
    11/14 none
    11/15 none
    11/16 5--back to town. Yes!
11/17 none. forced rest day bc of work!
    11/18 5.19 -- good run
    11/19 rest day
    11/20 no run--elliptical day
    11/21 no run--elliptical day
11/22 5.13 -- on the snow for the first time, was a really good run!
11/23 rest day forced bc of work
    11/24 4.5 needed run
    11/25 1.86 warm up run preparing for tomorrow's 10k!
    11/26 6.2 -- 10K race, BerbeeDerby! 54:05, 8:43!
11/27 2.36 slow, easy recovery run! Also, a half hour elliptical, just for good measure!
11/28 4.53 — ran with neighborhood guys. we discovered one another at the BerbeeDerby thanksgiving run and decided to run together on Saturdays. Not only did i get to run, but also to know a couple of cool guys living in my very neighborhood.
11/29 no run today, but an hour and a half of soccer. that was good! I will be missing my goal for this month, but that's okay since I was doubtful from the very beginning! I still have one more day, right!

@Elise4270 I never realised Decathlon didn't exist in Northern America. They are in pretty much every country in Europe and Asia, I never would have thought they didn't also have a shop in the US. Sorry!

@vandinem Well done - quite a goal for a "scaled back" month that you hit!

Last day of the closed fitness center! Hallelujah! Tomorrow, that bike is mine!
@kristinegift Lol, we have completely opposite opinions when it comes to fitness center bikes, I think.
I went to the gym today (glad that I joined a studio just in time before hurting my toe) to do at least a little strength training if I can't run. I was already limping towards the treadmill when I realised that wouldn't work; and the only cardio machine I can use for a warm up right now is the bike. I'd always rather walk or run or than biking anywhere, and sitting on a stationary bike is about as annoying to me as using a "stepper" machine.
But glad you have yours back if you actually enjoy it ;)

@elise4270 - lol on your running kitty!
@beachhouse758 - Awesome on 5K. It’s great that there were so many body types running! I was cracking up at you leaving your app on. I did that with Endomondo when I first started using it. Sometimes I would drive to a trail about 3 miles away. Then forget to turn it off on the way home. And it would show that I ran 40 mph. Love your life changing socks. :)
@joinn68 - welcome! Any size runner is fine. Trust me, we all started somewhere.
@5beautifuldays - My daughter is tall, 6’2”. When she was little she was obsessed with gymnastics. She was taller than her teacher in 3rd grade. She also loved horses. We knew she would be really tall (when born 23 inches!) and I kept trying to steer her towards basketball, but she hated it! Like you, I never said “you are too tall for gymnastics or to be a horse jockey” or anything else. Finally she discovered volleyball on her own and that was it! She played from 5th-college and so thankful she made her way to that! Now she runs!
@ohhim - get ready, it's hot down here. Please bring that cold weather down with you.
@karef - hugs to you. Here is some more cuteness to cheer you up.

Wow - I'm really liking that little 1 mile run for my streak! I thought it would be a waste of time and not worth it, but all 3 I did after a long bike ride and it was kind of fun. My legs were REALLY tight on Thursday after the 48 mile bike ride. But yesterday and today they were fine.
Tomorrow will be a longer run (back in the dark!). I have a 3 day field trip Tuesday-Thursday and there is a 5K as part of the convention on Wednesday morning. Then driving up to Savannah for son's wedding! Daughter is flying in so she will probably run with me!

    HM - Feb 7th - Daytona Beach.

@_nikkiwolf_ Ha! Thanks! I was nursing some aches and pains after my prior month targets, so I took advantage of a travel month for some recovery time. Back on the clock in December!
