Did about 50 minutes of a Cathe Friedrich After Burn DVD today. The plan for tomorrow is to do an extreme cardio DVD.
Sharon - so sorry about your son. How devastating, especially at the holiday time
Lisa - I'm pretty sure Bryan never told his therapist that he was SEVERLY (like he didn't walk down the hall -- he waddled) overweight and that's most likely the reason he didn't ask a girl out, he was too ashamed of his weight. Even if his therapist did discuss this letter with Bryan, I'm very surprised that he would tell Bryan to send it without having spoken to me. Like I said, there are three sides to every coin. I bet he never told the therapist that my nickname for him when he was little was "my little MAN". No, it's just easier to blame everything on me, not take any personal accountability. I really think that he spoke to Denise and is saying that her childhood was his. They are like night and day. They have two things in common -- their last name and their parents. Looks like there's nothing I can do.
Welcome everyone new, rebecca
kimses - so glad you're safe. CO is not a thing to fool around with
mojohamme - enjoy the movie.
Put most of the inflatables away. Had to go to WalMart to get a new container to hold the santa in a chair that a friend gave us. His wife was the one who fell at the Newcomer social. She had a heart attack afterward then a bad reaction to a statin med she was on. He's not in the best of shape, either. So they decided to just get rid of this invlatable, and they gave it to us.
Alison - safe travels. Will wave as you go by. I'm so sorry that the hotel is that bad
sunsqueak - oh, yes, barbie will start a new thread tonight. Glad to have you with us
Gayle - so sorry about your friend. Hope she gets better fast.
margaret - beautiful pics
Just got a 2 sentence email from Bryan. Didn't say much at all, but what else is new?
Sylvia - happy anniversary. Your ex sure delighted in torture, huh? So glad you had such a good dinner
Becca - awesome workout! I'm sure your new suit will work out. I have a chlorine resistant one, and it's been years and I haven't had to replace it. The lining is starting to wear, but not the suit!
Mary - do you call that a rest day????
Michele in NC0 -
Thank you, Barbie, for being our anchor.
I have not fully thot out my 2016 goals. I'm too tired tonight to concentrate on them. Will post them in the next couple of days.
I'm catching a cold. Runny nose and eyes, sore throat and tight chest. To top it off, I have 3 cold sores on the inside of my bottom lip. Ouch.
Happy New Year.
Janetr okc0 -
Thanks for starting this off, Barbie.
I have a plan for 2016 so I'll put it out here. I have gathered pieces of the full picture over this past year and used different pieces at different times. Time to put the three together:
1. Nutrition - I saw a nutritionist 5 times this year and she taught me the correct way to eat in regards to carb counting, grains, protein and carb balance, calorie range.
2. P90x3 - started this two weeks ago and intend to stick with it for increasing strength and flexibility.
3. Accountability - MFP - this group, the Weight Loss Challenge on MFP, logging (and stickers on the calendar!)
Call it my 3 legged stool.
I'll have to copy this out to a notepad so I have it to evaluate my progress against.
Starting tomorrow. Tonight all bets are off.
Happy New Year's Eve

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .
Happy New Year Ladies,
Barbie, thank you so much for always starting us on a new month. This year has flown by and I’ve enjoyed spending each day with you and our friends here. Glad you enjoyed your dances classes and that your legs held out.
Penny (Jaydasbuddy ), welcome. This thread has been going for years and will probably keep going for many years. Most of us are committed to this new lifestyle and cherish the support we get here. Please tell us about yourself so we can get to know you. We also ask that you end each post with the name you like to be called and a location, general or specific. Since we have a Penny already, perhaps you can add a last initial or something simple to help us know it’s you? Come often and join right in.
Janine, welcome to you as well. Read the post above to Penny and all the same applies. Glad to have you with us.
Linda, if staying home tonight makes you an old fuddy duddy then you are not alone. Not only do we chose to not stay up that late, but refuse to drink and drive. Maybe we have become a little dull but better safe (tucked in bed) than sorry.
Lenora, I’m so proud of you for your weight loss. The support from your DH is so helpful or at least I know mine is. Isn’t it nice to have them make the “skinny” comments all the time when you least expect it? Keep up the good work!
Rori, so glad you and your work friend got to vent to each other. It’s amazing how that can help us unload sometimes. I hope you have a fabulous 2016 along with all of our friends here.
Janetr, glad the weather has been mostly good for your drive. Go Tigers!!!! Lol
Joyce, I’m sorry about your eyes but happy there is something they can do about it. It just hardly seems fair that there are so many age related problems when it seems we should have paid our dues by now. ((((Hugs))))
Mary, this is just IMHO but I would keep the crate. They quickly learn that it is their safe place where they can go to rest or just get away from humans and no one will bother them there. If you ever want to move it, they still know it’s theirs.
Sharon, glad to hear that you had a good Christmas. What a terrible thing to happen to DS’s Mom and at this time of year. I hope your colds go quickly. Have lots of fun on the 1st.
Pole Penny, tee hee hee (that name makes you sound like a stripper) Isn’t it wonderful to have more lap now that we have less midriff? I’ll admit how jealous I am that you will get to meet Heather! She’s not too crazy about them, but give her a hug for me.
Lisa, glad ya’ll made it to the Gulf. I hope the weather clears for you and you have a good night.
Rebecca, welcome. You have come to a great place for support. I also quit smoking this year and happily haven’t gained any weight. I also haven’t lost any since that time, but that’s okay. Come often and join right in.
Beth, OMG, I know I’d go blind with that coloring book! I kept seeing them in stores but never even picked one up to see what they looked like. I think I’d need one for a 3 year old.
Mary, sorry Shep got bullied. I don’t know what that’s about either. (later) glad Pip had the answers.
Heather, thanks for giving Beth that needed Kick in the *kitten*. I had just taken my kickin’ boots off so wasn’t up to it. So glad that you at least opened your Word document. I’m sure it will take a bit to get back into it but you know I’m here pushing you in that direction. (((Hugs)))
CarolGA, good for getting that attitude straightened out. My guess is that you didn’t need the calories on those special snacks and this did you a favor? I am and shall remain grandchildless so try to enjoy your time with them.
Gayle, that is terrible about your friend. Sending a prayer for her speedy recovery.
Kimses, so glad everyone was okay. Did one of the alarms go off in the middle of the night?
Margaret, absolutely beautiful pictures. Thank you for sharing. I know you enjoyed that! Cute newsletter.
Sylvia, Happy Anniversary as well as Happy New Year. I think you found a “keeper” this time.
Allie, I think we are all hoping next year is a lot better for you than this year was. Safe travels home.
to any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.
I started this post this morning and didn’t finish and here it is late in the evening and I’m just finished reading all the posts. It’s been an incredible year and I look forward to 2016 with all of you. Of the 60 pounds I’ve lost, only 34 were in the past year and most of those in the first 4 to 6 months. This is the first month that I have actually gained weight. My body should be used to this weight by now so it’s time to move on down that scale.
For next year I will renew my commitment to exercise. Work out in some way at least 4 days a week.
I will renew my commitment to eating right, counting calories and logging everything that goes in my mouth. That includes staying with my 1200 calories a day.
Continue to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Cut back on alcohol.
Be kinder to others.
Be kinder to myself
I cannot express the love and closeness I feel for you ladies. You give me hope and inspiration to carry on with this new lifestyle. I've been on this journey for 14 1/2 months now and I know I would not have made it if I hadn't found you. I hope all of you have a healthy and happy New Year.
Words I live by:
Savor. I have to slow down and savor every bite.
and
Opportunity. Each day offers new opportunities for good health and happiness if we just look for them and choose them.
I Love you,

Hello everyone & HNY!
I would love to join this group. I'm 62 & live in No. Cal. I've been on MFP since 2013 when I lost 85 lbs on very low cal, low carb, low fat. I've kept most of the weight off but would like to shed the 20 that have found their way back.
January resolutions:
Do some form of exercise each & every day, 10 min minimum.
Stick to my eating plan.
Eat less protein, more low carb veggies.
Take more time eating.
~Mars in No.Cal.0 -
Happy New Year! I hope that 2016 will be good to each of us. :flowerforyou:
Here are my December goals with comments:
December Goals :
1. Log every bite and swallow.
Done! This is what keeps me on track.
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength.
I was doing great until I got the flu, and then I did nothing. I finally got back to a yoga class yesterday. I've missed it, and came home sore.
3. Have fun every day.
I even managed to find something fun while sick. This is a goal that is teaching me to appreciate life.
4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more!
Done!
5. Eliminate alcohol.
Not perfect. I had alcohol a few times during the month AND counted the calories.
6. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly.
Done! My sleep averages are excellent.
My January goals will look familiar.

I haven't made any health goals in three years, and I'm really overdue. My goals are:
To lose 10-12 pounds this year.
To workout five times a week.
To sleep 7-8 hours every night.
To balance work & fun.0 -
Another quick post.
Sharon!!!!!! Where have you been lady???? I have been waiting to know what that at home sleep study was!!!!!!
Well the specialist office called me this morning just like they said they would. They even waited until about 11 AM since I told them I slept late. So she said she had gotten the referral about the left eye and the clouded over bad cataract lense implant. So I asked her about the right eye. Nope they didn't get a referral about that so she said she would call me back. No call. At least they could have called and let me know that the eye doctor hadn't faxed them the referral. So know that tomorrow is the 1st that means I have to wait until Monday. There are dozens of things swimming around in my eye right now plus the 'dirt'. Actually it is better in a darkened room and on a darker screen for me to write.
Happy New Years my friends. It has been a good year in many ways and trying times at others. But it those trying times that makes us grow and that we have done. Talking about Charlie and I know. His other problems have always been easily taken care of by medicine or a stent. He wanted to go out tonight so he spent a lot of time in the BR trying to go and when he thought he was done we got in the car and went down the street a ways and he realized he had to come back home. So he did some more and again we were in the car. And then again we came back home to go to the BR again. I am telling him I will fix something. But I think he thought that was him giving into his problem and letting it win. So the 3rd time was a charm. We were able to go out and have a nice meal.
Nite nite. Neighborhood fireworks going off as I speak.

Happy New Year, my friends!
In case you are interested, 2016 is a quite special number. It is 2^10 +2^9 +2^8 +2^7 +2^6 + 2^5.
I'm still thinking on my goals. I'll post tomorrow.
Joyce, I am worried about you and your eyes. My DH has had emergency retina surgery three times. His retina tears were caused by pressure from glaucoma. The urgency of his situation has me worried about them taking their own sweet time. But then I have a friend who has floaters all the time and they don't seem too worried about hers. She is fine except for the nuisance factor. Please get some answers soon.0 -
Hi Barbie and everyone Happy New Year
I have been missing for the most of 2015 but would like to join you all again. There are a few names I remember apart from Barbie - Hi Michele and DrKatiebug. Thought I'd start the new year afresh rather than try to catch up, but hope everything is well with you.
Starting today I am logging everything I eat and hope this will get me back on track.
I'm back at work on 4th January so not sure how often I will be able to post as I usually log on to the computer on the morning before work - it doesn't give me a lot of time to read and post plus enter my food. I am hoping to reduce my days from 4 to 3 days though in the next few months.
I've also joined a group on "household management" as I am totally disorganised in everything at home. The stock phrase from them is "baby steps" so that is what I am trying to do. I've almost got the night routine in my brain, but must confess I went to bed last night without drying the pots and putting them away. She does have a point as it so much better to come downstairs on a morning to a clean and tidy kitchen. A little order in the chaos. I'm hoping that if I can organise my home I'll be able to organise myself to be healthier. So tonight I will ensure that I have a clean kitchen before going to bed.
One small goal I have for January is to go to bed earlier. (I was in bed very early last night as I didn't celebrate the new year) Feel a little more positive this morning. Trouble is my moods are still up and down so this could change within the next 5 minutes but so far so good.
A new year and hopefully a new "healthier" me.

Thanks Barbie!
Margaret - Thanks for the pictures from the conservatory. I wrote about my childhood experiences of Como Park (Zoo and Conservatory) a long time ago, as you may recall. The pictures took me right back again. What better day for a trip down memory lane than New Year's Eve? Should auld acquaintance be forgot...
Hi Wizzy! I'm one of the "new" people from your perspective, though I've been posting for nearly half a year now. Sounds to me as though you've found Flylady. I learned a lot from my time with Flylady, and although some routines have fallen by the wayside, others have stuck with me. Just a few days ago Barbie posted a link to a few tips on how to achieve a happier home. http://gretchenrubin.com/happiness_project/2012/11/12-tips-for-a-happier-home-adapted-from-nursery-school/?utm_content=buffer53f22&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer
Rule number 3 ends with the words "Outer order contributes to inner calm". That really resonated with me (and now I'm about to get to the point) because when I was "flying" most enthusiastically, I was amazed at the serenity I felt in my day-to-day life. I've been considering re-establishing a Flylady routine or two as one of my goals for January. You've inspired me to go from thought to action!
We're on the mainland now, wa-a-a-a-y south, where it actually gets light every day, even if the sun won't actually rise for another three weeks. Here's a picture I took when we were waiting for the ferry out to our island. You may think it looks pretty dark, but for us it's incredibly bright!
In November, I failed so utterly at reaching my goals that I didn't even set any goals for December. My most serious lapse was that I couldn't get my pound of veggies every day when I was in Asia, and I didn't get started again when I got home. That habit really makes a difference in how I feel, so it has top priority. Get back on track now Penny!
January goals:
1. Re-establish 500 g per day veggie habit
2. Declutter 15 min per day
3. Exercise formally three times per week (jogging or weight lifting)
4. Walk everywhere, whenever possible
5. Plan meals for the week

Hello All, I'm a total newbie on this thread. First time I've read it but I'd like to join. I'm going to read through the December and join in this one. It is a chilly morning here in NW Ohio. Much to do early this morn but I'll be back. Happy 2016 and I hope you are blessed this coming year with many successful results as I plan to be. Onward and upward. ~Penny0

Hello and happy new year! This looks ik a nice group. Turned 60 last year and need to refocus on my diet and fitness goals.

Thanks, Barbie! Such a pleasure to know this will be here each month...
Last vacation update... we're heading toward San Marcos, TX, once the rain lets up. It started peeing down about 4 a.m., which finally stopped the fireworks. My husband is wide awake, just about to get out of the shower. He did NOT sleep well last night, we're used to country quiet, and between the sirens and fireworks exploding, drunken voices and apparently someone learning to tapdance upstairs, it was not a restful night (for him - I took a Benadryl, and four hours later, took another).
Luckily, he's not a cranky guy.
JanetR - cannot BELIEVE you are in Fort Stockton, though I did wonder when you said you were heading for Arizona. Sorry we missed each other... and the warehouse is at 701 North Rooney, just two blocks off the main drag, which is Dickinson. When you see the green, orange and yellow striped building catty-cornered from the Shell Station at the eastern end of Dickinson, that's Rooney Street.
Off to the races, he's making rustly noises behind me, and I'm still in my jammies! Not used to this when I'm the early riser...
Happy New Year, people.
I have only one goal - I want to be lighter at the end of 2016 than I am here at the beginning. And I won't know what that weight is until I get home. Detaching from the scale for a week has been revelatory.
Love y'all...
Lisa, soon to be back home in West Texas0 -
Happy New Years to All!
My goal for January is to move more!0 -
-
Happy New Year my dear friends...slept maybe 4 hrs and we got woken up by the people in the next room having there own little celebration..if you know what I mean....so we left at 2 am..another 5 hours until we get home0
-
OK, you have all shamed me into making some goals for January.
1 Lose my pesky pound that I put on over Christmas. I am at maintenance, so don't need to lose more than that.
2 Cut back on alcohol. I will drink no more than 2 units a day ( that's my evening Pernod ) except for either Friday or Saturday when I can have half a bottle of wine. (Around 4 units) That is still quite a lot, but if I try to cut down more than that I won't stick to it. I will also commit to one day a week with no alcohol.
3 DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD. (From Gretchen Rubin, originally from Voltaire)
DJ - I hope you don't mean you are going to only eat 1200 calories a day. I don't think anyone can stick to that long term. I exercise in order to eat and eat back all, or nearly all, my calories. Doing more exercise is a very good goal. My extra 600 exercise calories is a life saver. Literally.
Drkatie - Nice maths! I bought DH two maths books for Christmas and he is really enjoying them. I will read them next. I hated maths at school.
Penny - Lovely! :flowerforyou:
Did a tiny bit of writing this morning, but better than nothing. My exercising does interfere with my writing, but I feel that the exercise regime does literally save my life. Will have to find a way of fitting in the writing.
Love Heather in Hampshire UK0 -
I finally got "the life-changing magic of tidying up" from the library....it is a best seller and I was originally #38 in line to get the book.....the author criticizes the approaches to tidying up that are any variation of a little at a time--a process that has worked for me, but I plan to read the book with an open mind....until then I'll continue my plan to go through files for 15 minutes a day and put away 10 things and all the other tricks that have worked for me....I am a great believer in "outer order contributes to inner calm"--thank you, Gretchen Rubin
Penny, I love your picture of a little bit of daylight......I love walking in the dark but we have a lot more daylight here than you do.
Thank you everyone for your kind words...I may be the one who gets the thread started but without all of you, it would be very lonely here.
Barbie0 -
This looks like the place for me to get the motivation I need.
I will not make New Year Resolutions this year. Instead I am going to focus on babystep monthly goals.
I will be 58 in February, and SO want to look and FEEL better.
I am 5'3" and I have tettered on the 180 lb mark on the scales for the last 15+ years.
Think the most I ever got off was 10 lbs.
I have gone from working 12 hr shifts for 38 years to basically a couch potato.
I am a closet eater and stress eater, and love my carbs. Baby steps...
January goals: at least 15 minutes a day on my stationary bike followed by a few weights.
Write down every bite, drink that passes my lips, good or bad.
Drink more water.
Aim to keep my kitchen counters tidy and free of food/papers,etc, that should be elsewhere.
Start each day with a glass of water with lemon juice.
Try to get more organized.
