This for sure. I had to find the right friends/family to tell, because I so wanted to tell someone and most people look at you and you can tell they are thinking "so what, why are you so excited about that" I have the issue with fitness goals and weight loss goals. Ran a mile, no stopping for the first time in years and most people think no big deal...well, to me it was a big deal and I wanted to tell someone. Thankfully I have a couple of friends who get excited for me.
That's one of the things I love about this virtual place. When I break single digits and manage to run 10 minutes at a stretch, I'll have somewhere to brag about it. And people who are running miles a day will congratulate me, and mean it.
Speaking of which, a recent achievement is running because I can, not because I'm in a rush.9 -

This! I have to keep reminding myself that while my current weight loss is a big deal to me (almost 84lbs!) that I am still fat and that I still have a ways to go before I move out of that category.
84 lbs IS a big deal. CONGRATULATIONS! You'll get the rest of the way, too.2 -

CONGRATULATIONS! !3 -

250 lbs dropped my shopping? Haha fatty dropped the food.
Underwear was a joy to buy, browsing all the pretties. Now it's an embarrassing necessity, trying to scoop up a pack of plain, giant granny knickers without anyone seeing.
On a positive note. I practically ran up a mountain that used to cripple me. I had curves going on and out, not just out.
I can't wait to look less like a big toe!
Haha! I'm laughing at your word choice, but I'm willing to bet that you do not look like a big toe

All you cold folks, after yoyoing all my life, I was always freezing. Now I'm maintaining and am no longer always ghetto coldest person in the room. I'm s.yre the difference is that I'm exercising a lot more.0

Ghetto???? That should be "the". And tho I know how to correct messages, the system won't let me.1

I have lost 111 lbs Went from size 22 wide to size 4 :
1. I know in my mind I lost weight but it is a shock every single time I look in the mirror or see a picture of myself. It is like that fat girl will always be inside me...
2. I feel I am treated nicer by most people...which is weird to me and as much as like being treated nicer, I think it is ignorant of people to treat people that are heavier not as nice Made me realize how shallow people are.
3. I have so much more energy and feel so much happier.
4. Healthier... use to get bronchitis yearly in my adult life...since I got down to a better weight 5 years ago, I have not had bronchitis since.
5. Once the weight is lost, it is still a day to day thing I have to work hard at so I dont go back to how I used to be. Dont get me wrong, it is much easier but it is still always on my mind and I work hard at it every day to stay on track.
6. there will be people telling you that you dont need to lose anymore weight when you are just trying to sustain your weight...it is almost as if they are trying to get you to eat how they do so they dont feel as guilty and/or they do want me to gain weight ...I dont see any other reason why they would care (IMO)
7. Going to buy clothes is actually fun!!!
8. Last but not least, I finally found my confidence!!! It is wonderful!!!

-Not everyone will notice or comment on your loss. Most of my closest friends haven't said a word about me losing weight, but their families have, and my family has.
-Just because you lost weight doesn't mean you can go back to how you were before you were trying to lose weight. I know a few people who let themselves revert back to the old 'them', and they gained a lot of their weight back. This is a lifestyle change. A lifelong journey.
No, you can't. The eating whatever is what caused you to gain weight. So if you loose weight and then go back to the bad eating habits you will gain it all back and it will all have been for nothing. And the second, third, and on times you will get less support. But even if you have no support being healthy is for you.2 -

Yes. ....just that. Is it because I'm thinner or is it because I'm nicer and more confident......screws with the noddle3 -
One of my coworkers is trying to lose weight. She has been for ~5 years. I've lost 40 pounds since July and not a word from her *except* when she overheard another coworker commenting. She pitched up her voice to mock the other one and proceeded to make fun of her kind words.
It didn't bother me, except to make me sad for her. I know her hubby is not supportive, but she is on mfp, she's on the wellness committee at work, she's friends with the trainer who gives our work sponsored exercise classes. She's got the tools, she just needs to *do it*.
Even people on the same road can be awful about it.

Whooodda thunk it... logging food has actually been kinda fun in the last few days... seeing if I can guess the calories of certain things before looking it up.3
-
@tipti_mippy Congratulations on coming so far!!! It is interesting who comments and who doesn't isn't it? I notice women who I'm now smaller than like to tell me that I can stop now (even though I'm still about 25lbs above normal BMI). .
Also never thought about how sometimes hubby/partners could be unsupportive. I hear and see a lot of stories about that. One girl I know after losing weight actually left her boyfriend because she had no respect for him because he was with a fatty. Umm that was her. WHAT THE WHAT, right!?
Anyhow I think it all has to do with envy/jealousy and the pressure it puts on others to hurry up and get in shape too. Mind you its all in their head - that pressure/feelings of insecurity and not your problem. Keep on keeping on / you're doing amazing!!4 -
@piggysmalls333 thanks!!! I get comments from all sorts of coworkers except those who I work closest with. Very odd! They know I'm struggling with a disease, so maybe that's why? Who knows.
That's awful that she left him because he was with a "fatty ". Sounds like some deeper issues going on there... What self-hate!
My coworker's hubby is very obese, insecure, and does not want to change. Makes me even more grateful for my own extremely supportive fiancé .... But the teacher in me wants to help everybody. It's hard to remember not everyone wants/is ready for it.
I really appreciate your encouragement! I've got a long way to go still, but I'm getting there!0 -
@tipti_mippy it could be those closest to you haven't noticed as much since they see you every day. I always get much bigger reaction to those who maybe I haven't seen in a month or longer. Ya, it's hard for me too to not spring into "personal trainer/nutritionist" mode lol but I generally wait until someone asks me "how did you do it?"... Then I let it rip. .2

~A reminder of how you let yourself go once you have children...they hug you and can actually wrap their arms around you
~people tell you not to get too skinny but when you were getting fat never mentioned it to you
~so tell me how did you lose ALL that weight...you want to respond with "of course tons of diet pills, quick fixes and cult like diet programs...duh eat right and exercise!!!
~that you have a definite shape and even when you lose weight, certain "bigger" parts are still bigger even with a dropped weight ratio (ever heard of junk in the trunk being hereditary lol)4 -
Self control was the hardest for me. Walking through market baskets bakery or an italian bakery was brutal. But I can safely say that I can now control the urge which was impossible before. Now I look at the weight I've lost and work put in. I do not want to throw it all away. I'm in this to the finish.4

No one tells you how hard it is to get back all the ("vintage") clothes you lent to your kids, thinking you'd never fit back in them again.

Feeling the difference in my core - I seem to feel my abs are firmer (no six pack though!) and support me better;
I like the way my body now feels when I move around;
I like walking up five flights of stairs to my office and not feeling like my heart is going to explode out of my chest :-)7 -

Yep, I gave some size 6 shorts to my daughter, figuring it was unrealistic to think I'd wear them again. Now I'm back to size 6 and can't fit in size 10s anymore. I'm not sure if she'll give them back.

That getting close to your goal could actually be kind of scary and could possibly make your revert back to the old you.11

Loved this, thank you. I think I will keep the website as a favorite as I go through the process of getting more healthy! I am not quite as big as I thought I was, so a nice little NSV.0 -
I can't get over how cold I am this winter! In winters past if the temperature was above 25 degrees I felt fine. My thick winter coat would still make me feel toasty. Last night I was out in 35 degree temp with the same coat and I was freezing! This weekend we're going to have an arctic plunge with the low temp getting down to single digits. I don't know how I'm going to cope with being out in that!
On the plus side last summer I felt ok even though a lot of people were calling it a hot summer.0 -
* You will get cold more easily. I used to be hot even to the point of over heated. Now I'm asking "can we put the heat on?"
* For the ladies That time of the month is going to come every month... you are going to crave stuff, and its ok just keep tracking what you eat (i hate seeing the red numbers, when i'm over my calories... but it good to know how i very from each month.
* Loose the weight... not the awesome personally!2 -

@Shanel0916 don't believe it! Set a new goal, maybe not weight loss but fitness or maintenance related - don't go back!!1
