What nobody tells you about losing weight

They likely notice and are just not saying anything. I've caught people at work looking me over and doing a double take, but they wouldn't mention that I looked like I'd lost. Some people are just jealous, and other people might feel it's too personal of a thing to comment on.

That I actually looked for and found a fanny pack to take to the gym with me. A diaper for my baby, a juice box, phone, keys and wallet. Works great, but I'm pretty embarrassed using it...
Also, that I would ever use lettuce leaves instead of bread for a sandwich...6 -
How much it sucks when the clothes you just bought have to go to the tailors.3

Don't worry about it! You can try wearing it backwards or to the side so its less "dad at disney land" lol. It's admirable that you are trying to be organized, and at least its not a murse!

That you'll go grocery shopping and it will dawn on you that sales people and men will go out of their way to help you with things yet 30lbs ago it was like you didn't exist. It's not that you didn't get the help/smiles before so much, it's more that you're subconciously aware that this time just feels different. An a ha, moment.1

I know! I bought some shorts to go to Puerto Rico for Christmas and they are too big to wear to Costa Rica in February, so I had to urgently get them tailored along with a lot of other clothes!0 -

I had an aha moment like that when I was at Kohls shopping for another winter coat because my winter coats were too big. I couldn't find one that I liked and I kept walking back to show a friend that was shopping in another section of the store, when a young man that seemed to be an employee is walking by at at least 20 feet away almost shouted out "that one looks good on you"! I replied "I don't like the price" and then I looked at my friend and said "that wouldn't have happened several months ago" ....2 -
I can get super excited finding exercise bras that fit, work AND are inexpensive.4

I'm feeling similar, I've lost 20+ pounds since Christmas, and...nothing. Nobody has said a word. So, I'm frustrated, but, I'll keep going until I find out just how many pounds I need to lose before somebody asks.

How weird it feels to wear pants that are loose in the thighs, when those pants aren't specifically tailored to be extra loose. Thought I would always be the one with thick thighs.1

I just read this entire thread over the last few weeks. Thanks for keeping me motivated, everyone! I'm down 16lbs since Feb 8th when I started getting serious. I changed my sleep schedule so I can wake up, make a proper breakfast, then walk 2 miles every morning, then after work walk another 2 miles, then dinner. I feel like it's working out pretty well, and staying busy keeps me from snacking or binging.4

How much you'll roll your eyes at your coworkers when they say that this miracle thing or that miracle thing will help you lose more weight and how they can't wait to try it and how I should try it too. Um, I've lost almost 60 pounds just tracking calories and moving more, I think I'm good.
Also how jewelry (mainly rings) fit you differently. The engagement ring I still wear with my wedding band keeps flipping around so that it's face up on the palm side. Not quite loose enough yet to get it resized or wear a spacer with it, but just enough to be annoying.10 -
Just feeling lighter and more agile. That's my favorite.5

... that skinny people are cold!
Over the past several months I have lost close to 60 pounds and find that I'm cold all the time. I'm okay with that problem though6 -
You will lose some friends who see you as a threat! Just let them go.....
Its a sad day when you realize some people just aren't who you thought they were and were using you for how you felt about yourself. But you find out who are your true friends. It's a smaller circle, but truer.

Buying clothes in a small size...not feeling guilty about it! Instead of avoiding mirrors while nude, actually checking out how much thinner I am. Lol.3

That one day you will actually CHOOSE to eat zucchini noodles instead of normal pasta.
That (atleast for me) it took 30 pounds lost before my obsession with the scale drastically decrease (once you start feeling better from loosing the weight it gets easier)
That it gets annoying when every time you see certain people they ask if you're "still going strong?" (Like they expect you to have finally thrown in the towel since you last saw them)
Certain "diet foods" just aren't worth it. I would much rather eat a small portion of a "normal" food that to eat something like Arctic Zero7 -
How when you meet someone new you (alone) realize they are meeting a new person!!8

A few things (good and bad):
1. Moving around is just easier. Everything physical that you do in a day... it's all easier than it used to be.
2. While it's nice to try on smaller pant sizes, you are going to have many of the same 'dressing room problems' that you used to. I have short, stumpy legs. Always have, always will. Skinny jeans will probably never be in my closet, no matter how much weight I lose. Which is too bad, because I was honestly looking forward to owning skinny jeans. Alas.
3. Men suddenly start noticing you. This is a mixed bag. Sometimes I enjoy the attention, and sometimes I wish I could climb back into my formerly fat self and be invisible to them once again.
4. Most people who don't know you very well are nicer. New people are nicer than they were. Now I've heard that "it's your self-esteem," and people are just responding to your newfound happy glow. Except, I haven't experienced a notable uptick in self esteem. I dont go out more, or date more. My self esteem was fine to start with. I was not an unhappy fat person; I was just fatter. No, I'm fairly certain that people are in fact responding to my smaller and more socially acceptable physical form. Which is actually a real bummer, to be honest, though it has made me very thoughtful about how I interact with other people.
5. I think about my physical and mental health a lot more than I used to. It is becoming a higher priority, and this is very good.

How true! I've been very thin and very fat (truly!) And people are way nicer to me when I'm very thin, especially random people. I'm the same person inside either way.
However people who know me generally do not get to harbor illusions about my character, thin or fat!1 -

So true. Yoga has always been my favorite form of activity, and now that I weigh less, poses are so much easier. Also, in wanting to take care of myself, and making time for it, I feel so much better inside out.3
