What nobody tells you about losing weight

This. Exactly.
Getting the brain caught up with the physical progress is a chore not to be taken lightly.6 -
Nobody told me that it would be so hard finding clothes in smaller sizes. When I was a lot bigger, I knew I had the handful of stores I could shop in and the choices were limited. And you made it work because you had to. Now, in a size 16, XL shirt or 1X, there's either a no-man's land size-wise or these sizes fly off the racks. I don't understand how and where the line is drawn between misses and plus sizes, or that an XL and a 1X should be the same size (or XXL and 2X), but they're not! I'm clueless as to what stores/brands are good or reasonable or carry my sizes. I never thought it would be MORE difficult to shop for clothes, but it's actually getting harder every new size.4

Awesome! I attend an aquatics center,so there are people that walk from the shower to their area (behind a cloth screen to put on (or take off) clothes. To me, they are my goal weight, but here I am walking around nude from point A to B. I am more comfortable in my skin than they are, and its plain sad. For me its mostly a great way to completely dry off, (after actually drying off with a towel) and yep when there aren't people in there, I do check my naked self out in the mirror to reaffirm what I look like, to what my brain is looking at. To be in sync.
I'm curious as to why you find this sad? I'm comfortable in my own skin, and I'm pretty sure I'll never walk naked through a change room no matter my weight. We're all comfortable with different things, and I don't believe it makes anyone 'sad'. All part of You Do You.
I think Annr meant it's sad that other people are not as comfortable in their skin as she is in hers.0 -
+ may be random however my entire life I've hated asparagus, even the smell, gave it more then one chance over the years too... the other day I saw them on sale, without hesitation bought them, cooked them that night as my side veg. Couldn't get enough! Then was excited to have them as left overs and got sad I ran out! It was like invasion of the body snatchers! Lol Didn't even question the process, I just went along with it like it's no big deal over night I suddenly grew to love asparagus. Totally not upset by this...however the rumors I've avoided my entire life relating to asparagus and smells do bring up a slight worry2

^^Yes! And those tops that were used to disguise a bigger tummy and backside now come down to the middle of the thigh

I hate to say it, but...saggy-baggy skin and stretch marks. I lost 80 pounds and was kind of dismayed by these. Who knows, my skin may tighten up a bit, but at 45 I know I can't expect miracles (you lose elasticity as you get older). As for the stretch marks, cocoa butter has helped, but I have had to accept the fact the battle scars from my war on overweight will always be with me, and to learn to love the skin I'm in.
Don't get me wrong, though – it's totally worth it, and I definitely feel and look better than before!
The sagging skin is a nuisance. I'm in my 30s, though I just try to tighten it up with weight lifting and exercise.

@MimiOfTheLusciousLawn OMG! I thought it was just me. I think it will get easier when you get to size 14. Which I think I now am. However, I just bought a couple of pants in size 16 and a couple in a size 14. I think I need to lose another 6 to 8lbs to truly call myself a 14. But I was definitely having the very same issue you are describing a few weeks ago. I got very frustrated. I was shopping both in the misses and plus size it was just too overwhelming. So I ended up leaving the store without buying anything waited two weeks and a few pounds. That is the very reason that I think my goal size is going to be an 8. That should put me safely in the misses size no matter where I shop.2 -

I thought I would enjoy shopping more, but once I could buy clothes in any store I wanted, it became overwhelming. Too many options! I decided that it wasn't that I didn't like shopping because of my size, I just don't enjoy shopping. I mean, yes, I like to have nice clothes that looks good on me, but I don't actually like shopping.2 -
I still have a long, long way to go, but even at my current weight loss I am loving the feel of my body more. I can actually feel my hip bones and my ribs now!1

The emotional side of it all. Passing former lowest weights, Getting out of obese category, Getting out of plus size, Realizing how capable you are of physical activity. Realizing what people really support you, this is so huge! I realized how unsupportive my ex was of me and all I can think is thank god I got rid of him before we moved in or got married. I know in 20 lbs when I hit onederland there will be tears, I know when I hit normal BMI there will be tears. Goal weight I will just be such a mess. You learn a lot about your real self. You learn about the people around you. I learned I love running and that weight lifting doesn't suck that much. Weight loss is a lot of self discovery. I am excited what losing 80 more pounds will help me learn.16

going from being told at the doctors office that you have high blood pressure and them wanting to prescribe medication to (a new doctor) taking a double take looking at your chart and saying that everything is now right where it was supposed to be, no medication needed and asking what I've done to change. That felt damn good!!!24

How easy and effortless it is just to go from sitting to standing. You don't have to use your arms to push yourself up off the couch.
How your confidence shines and you learn to love yourself.
How sugar really affects your body and mood.
How amazing it feels to actually go after your dream of being fit and seeing that it is possible=)4 -
How vain (or proud) I have become. I look in the mirror every chance I get!
One thing that I didn't see coming was losing motivation once I got closer to my goal weight. I'm not planning my meals as carefully as I once was. I need to find my drive again, I'm so close to my goal I can taste it!7 -
The most exciting part for me was hitting BMI 29.9. I was SOOOO happy to be overweight, and not obese. Nobody talks about that.29

Thank you for validating my crazy! This has literally been making me nuts. I went shopping yesterday looking for jeans (16 long), a bra (40DDD) and some cute shoes (12M). I AM A SIZE NIGHTMARE! The only thing that would have made the day worse would have been to look for a bathing suit as well. I think I'll wait a minute before I go out again, it was pretty discouraging.4 -
That sugar is hiding in everything if you don't know where to look for it.
I was drinking what I believe to have been natural, juice but failed to realize juice and sugar was keeping my gut so big.
The week I cut it out my belly fat dropped noticably and I got out of the 230's after being stuck 3 months. Doh!
Now I stick to fruit or a small taste of raw honey if I want something sweet. At least I know the fruit breaks down into fiber and not fat.6 -
I used to sleep with a fan - winter and summer - I was just so damn hot and summers we brutal. Now I am cold in the winter, don't sleep with a fan and can tolerate the summer heat.
I used to HATE the summer heat, even when it was moderate. I never slept with more than a light sheet in the winter...now I sleep with full length pyjamas, sheets, a duvet and a hot pack!!

I never used to care about fashion before. If I had to purchase a piece of clothing I was not bothered about the style or how flattering it was to my shape. It was merely about appropriately covering my body even if it looked like a gunny sack. Now that I can see my waist taking shape and my legs looking better, I seem to care more about how I look when I leave the house.5

Same for me. Stalled for more than a week. Had to watch everything very closely... thankfully the scale started moving again.1 -

That was wonderful. I passed that little milestone recently, and celebrated with a new pair of jeans and a trip to the art museum. Just overweight, for the first time in about 10 years!10 -
I have a hard time with readjusting my car driver seats, mirrors and seatbelts in my SUV. I used to sit further away and now I had to move the seat forward, which makes me have to move the mirrors and then my seatbelt has to be adjusted.2

How things that I took for granted in my skinny days will suddenly become a huge deal when I lose the weight I'd gained. Like my collar bones. I've had them for months but I still find myself touching them, exploring them as if to reassure myself that, yes, they are still there. Along with my hip bones.
How looking in the mirror will feel like looking at an old friend I haven't seen in years instead of the complete stranger I've been avoiding looking at as much as possible for so long.6 -
1. How you start to love the taste of water and hate the taste of pop
2. Figuring out when to buy new clothes cause your old ones don't fit anymore (for the better)
3. Having more energy than your kids
4. Feeling cold, never had that problem before
5. Doctor telling you that you don't need the medication anymore8
