I do. Every little bit helps1 -

Currently shopping amazon for ankle supports and running socks...what socks do people here wear? I only have 1 pair of running socks right now....
Someone recommended Injinji socks to me a while ago, and I got some and absolutely love them. I had issues with blisters before but not anymore since I started wearing these socks.0 -
@asmalworld Most of my runs I just walk 1/10th mile to warm up and the same to cool down so I don't bother counting it at all. But sometimes for a longer trail run my warm up and cool down may be 1-1.5 miles total, so I count it but separately, as walking - even if I jogged a little in the warm up. LOL But I wouldn't care if you counted your warm up/cool down in running mileage
@MNLittleFinn Just "regular" socks for me from Kohl's or Walmart or wherever I see pretty colors and think I need new socks. I may be addicted to all things neon. I did have some wool socks from Target that I wore for a few really cold runs in winter. I suppose I've yet to get my weekly mileage up to the point that I'd really be worried about socks though. I don't get blisters.
@AdrianChr92 Great video1 -
@MNLittleFinn
For summer I love the DryMax Lite Mesh socks, though I also have several pair of FitSock F4 socks which I use for shorter runs. I prefer the DryMax over all else because I they work so well protecting my feet even when wet or sweaty. I don't think it's possible to get blisters in them.
For winter I typically wear the Fitsok ISW Isolwool with the trail cuff, which makes them tall enough to slip under my tights. These are warm enough for all but the coldest runs (down to -10F). Colder than that and I have a pair of Balega and a thick pair of SmartWool. I wore the ISW Isolwool on Saturday for my marathon and even though it warmer than I'd normally use them for, I had no sock related issues. I'll likely use these for my trail running this summer unless my feet get too warm in them.
When you're down in the Cities next you should stop by one of the many running stores and check all that's available.0 -
@7lenny7 I'm planning on hitting up running stores when I'm in town. Forgot to look at socks on Mothers day weekend. Might hit up the running store in Duluth this weekend. They are great. Oh, a few pages back you asked about the camber on the roads. It's not too bad, but I do notice it. I tend to run on the white line or even in the lane a little, that really helps.0

Don't think I have posted up in the May thread yet. I ran a 5k in the beginning of the month and am SO close to a PR. (PR is 27:36 in 2012, I got down to a 28:09 on the 1st)
The past week has been pretty relaxed, my AC has been out, and with the heat here in FL it is unbearable to be in my apartment. Coming home after a run, and taking a cold shower is great. I am looking forward to the weekend, as I have off work and plan to take advantage and get in some miles.
My goal for the month is 40 miles3 -

Great Run BTW2 -
Thanks everyone who commented on my two-10k-in-a-weekend idea! I just signed up for the second one
I think I'll try to take all the good advice to heart and only seriously try for a PB on Saturday, and then just run the one on Sunday a little more relaxed. The second one has more hills anyway, which sounds less PR-suitable (but more fun).Sounds like you want to go for it! You know we are not the right group of people to ask.
@7lenny7 Yes, I live in France - but just barely! It's maybe a kilometre from my house to the Swiss border. If I run north-west, my runs are completely in France, but if I head south-east, I need less then 10 minutes to leave the European Union ^^
Actually, all three races I did this year so far were in Switzerland. In France you need a medical certificate to run in a race, which I find slightly annoying... Well, now I finally had to get one for the 10k on Sunday (even if two thirds of the course are in Switzerland, it starts in France, so the French rules apply). I had to call 5 different GPs to find one where I could have an appointment this week, and the stupid piece of paper cost me 40 Euros! But at least it's valid for a year. So now I have to sign up for a lot of French races to make sure I get my money's worth

You all are a bad influence. I'm actually considering this: https://www.tcmevents.org/events/medtronic_twin_cities_marathon_weekend_-_october_7-9_2016/marathon/ it's 2 weeks after my second half. I'd have to reconfigure my training to do it too......Maybe not...I don't think I'm that crazy....but there is time....if I dedicate to it NOW......ugh....20 weeks to train.3
-
@MNLittleFinn - I wear Balegas. I love the lightweight ones most of the time, but I tend toward the thicker BlisterResist model for really long runs. If you order from their website directly, you get free shipping on orders of $50 (which is exactly the price for two pairs of the lightweight and two pairs of blister resist, by the way).0

New AC unit is going in as I type this, so have been looking up marathon training guides. I am looking forward to the start of a new week! I love that I am actually excited to start running again.6

The Mankato Marathon is a week after the TC. While not as big, it would give you another week to train and perhaps more importantly, to recover from your half. It's quite a bit cheaper too, if that's a consideration.
Also a week after the TC marathon is the Whistle Stop Marathon in Ashland WI. Saturday I had three different groups tell me that that was the one I'd should do next. It's even closer to you. I considered doing it this year but I'm being forced to attend a wedding that day. My wife's cousin's daughter's wedding..are you serious? I don't even know here. She would not care one whit if I was there or if I was running, so I might as well be running!!! Nope, that didn't fly.

This morning, I *could* run again; but there are some training soreness areas, and I think the better part of valor is to take today as a rest day. If the leg does start feeling totally normal by evening, maybe I'll go run some on a track. More likely, today will be a rest day. I'd rather come back permanently than come back too quickly and set myself back.
For now, I'm content with the result. It's not a triumphant return, but it is progress.
This is why I think @MobyCarp might actually be the most bad-*kitten* runner... he and I are essentially the same age and both picked up running "late in life" but we are on opposite ends of the running spectrum. Where I am a slow, grinding trail runner, @MobyCarp is an amazingly fast road runner. I am a simple, "put-one-foot-in-front-of- the-other" runner with a limited base of experiential knowledge, Moby is a very intelligent, sophisticated runner using the best scientific knowledge available to shave seconds off his times.
I freely admit that it is hard for me to understand his style of running (along with @Ohhim, @Stoshew71, @7lenny7, @WhatMeRunning), but it is what he wrote in the quoted section above that makes me admire and respect him as a fellow runner, and why I think he might be toughest runner here. It is so incredibly difficult to sit back and work through an injury. Most of us lack the patience and discipline to do it right, but not only is he doing it (and I can't imagine how crazy he must be going), but he is still here documenting it, logging it, owning it. As runners, we tend to have sensitive, competitive egos. We want to explain why our miles dropped off, why our speeds look slow, why a race didn't turn out as well as we expected... we want to rush through injuries to get to our monthly goals. It is tough to sit on the sidelines. And I have seen several runners here who would put up big miles and when they hit an injury or other set-back, they couldn't cope with it and bailed.
But not @MobyCarp... he is here everyday... letting us know what is going on with him, good, bad and ugly... but always positive, focused and exceedingly disciplined. And still taking time to offer wise advice and encouragement to all of us. I am really glad he is here.9 -

I'll take a look at those fulls too. I kind of want to try one this year.....but maybe I should wait.....ugh...Too much motivation, not enough common sense......Reason I'm looking at TC is i have family within a 45 minute drive of the starting point. I also just Emailed to see if there's a way to switch my second half to a full....Then I wouldn't have to recover or any of that, just use my Training for my July half as part of training for my full.0 -
^^^^^ good write up. EDIT: errrr...above MNLittleFinn's post. @PoppetsMaster 's post.
BTW, I'm just a big nerd. My engineering mind can't even take time off to just "put-one-foot-in-front-of-the-other". LOL2 -
@MNLittleFinn - I think you should sign up for another race just so I can blame you when I sign up for another race.2

@WhatMeRunning HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....I'm super tempted by the full. I could totally explain any slowness on the half in September on it being s Easy Taper run that I didn't want tp push on because I had a full in 2 weeks.0

@asmalworld Only for speed workouts. For easy runs I just start a little slower. Cool-down for these runs is walking
Another 6k today. Made a plan to run 5 days this week and I will advance to 6 next week. At this time I almost do a 5k every day lol. I mean it was incredible to do a 5k a few months ago, but If I look at it, is just 30 minutes at slow pace, just like they say on tv.
Was even easier today to maintain my cadence. It feels a little awkward the first few hundred meters but after I get in the rhythm is hard to slow down bellow 175. Had an average of 181 today with highs in the 190. I like it. It feels better, my heart rate stopped complaining about it and I feel like I have less vertical movement. Instead of stepping into the ground I feel like I step over it ) if you know what I mean. I couldn't realize the difference before when I was at 160 but there is certainly a difference.
Oh and I decided to ignore my open callus. Slapped a band aid over it and it now developed another callus inside. It's like callusception. Not pretty looking at all

To summarize, to impress @PoppetsMaster , you need to not *kitten* and not run.
Just kidding, your post was very well written and hits too close to home.3 -
Just heard back they'll let me switch the September half to a full. Do I go for it? That would be
1 5k 1
10k
1 HM
and 1 full for the year.
here's the website for the second half (or potential full) What do the sages here say? do 2 halfs and try to add the full, just stick with 2 halfs, or go for it and do the 1 half in July, and a Full in September?0 -
To summarize, to impress @PoppetsMaster , you need to not shlt and not run.
