5/20 - 29 miles - In honor of bike to work day here in Minneapolis, I dragged my behind out of bed early enough to take the longer route in, and road my gunnar (aka my "fast" bike) instead of my giant. The Minneapolis Bike Coalition had pit stops set up around the city, so I stopped to grab some granola and an "I Biked" sticker. Got a good half dozen compliments on my gunnar from the people at the stop :) It's a fun bike to talk about, and it's even more fun that it was such a great deal. Yeah, handmade wisconsin steel, custom sized for shorties, basically new 105 groupset, AND it was like 1/4 the price of what it was new. Yaaay deals!

Arrg! I want an "I Biked" sticker! I did so bike also today! Not such encouragement here in the countryside, I just got stared at by a small pony and ignored by some joggers and whizzed past by some athletic cyclists in full tracing gear. But I DID make it all the way up our most brutal hill nearby, where they train for the Triathlon, without stopping, if slowly, which is a personal best, hurrah.

    3/5 5.6 miles indoor
4/5 5.7 miles outdoor Pitfield Lane
5/5 12.88 outdoor Tadley rec ground
6/5 10.5 outdoor Padworth church circuit

    13/5 7.9 outdoor
    16/5 10 outdoor silchester

Good 64 mile ride with a friend today we really upped the pace for the last 20 something miles home and I ended up with a new PB for 40k 1hr 12mins 35secs or an average speed of 20.54mph!!! Total average speed for the ride was 17.2mph but it started out as a social ride lol. I'm hoping to get at least one more longish ride in over the weekend

Lots of commuting/riding through the rain today, and took a day off from riding yesterday as I skipped out on the ballgame to see some family for dinner. Installed some tiagra brakes on the front of my commuter bike as I wanted a bit better stopping power, and due to some clearance sales on the older tiagra 4600 groupset, the brakes + pads were only about $10 more than just getting new pads. Pads are still being broken in and I need to adjust them so they toe-in better, but happy to have better stopping power in the hills up here, especially given how rainy it has been as of late.

    5/3 - 21 miles
    5/4 - 13 miles
    5/5 - 4 miles
    5/6 - 4 miles
    5/8 - 33 miles
    5/10 - 33 miles
    5/11 - 58 miles
    5/12 - 34 miles
    5/13 - 28 miles
    5/14 - 17 miles
    5/15 - 50 miles
    5/16 - 13 miles
    5/17 - 15 miles
    5/18 - 21 miles
    5/19 - 13 miles
    5/20 - 11 miles
    5/22 - 12 miles

    Total: 380 miles
    Goal: 500 miles
    Remaining: 120 miles

Main goal for May is a 100 mile Audax in the New Forest (southern England) on May 8th.
Last big training ride before the event was today - easy week ahead to arrive at the event with fresh legs.

Today's ride was 73 miles @ 16.5mph, felt good and even had some welcome sunshine at last - April was cold!
That took me to over 7000 exercise calories for the week.

    Audax done!
Weather turned hot and the strong wind was a PITA! Although it was a circular route the wind was on my back on the flat, sheltered parts and in my face on the climbs and open moorland sections with no shelter. Never cycled so much on the drops and my poor old neck is killing me now.
My neck is a bit damaged from repeatedly throwing myself into the scenery and Armco barriers in my misspent youth as a motorcycle racer. :)

    100.6 miles @ 14.7mph in drop-dead gorgeous countryside.

213.7 miles so far for the month.

Four rides of varying lengths this week totalling 127 miles. Sunshine and warmer temperatures certainly make a difference!
340 miles for month so far.

Entered another Audax event at beginning of June (205km this time) so training hard.

Had to take what weight lifters would call a deload as legs got really fatigued. So an easy 5 days, lots of recovery walking, couple of one hour gentle spins in the gym to pump some blood through my legs, and no weight training for my legs at all (training like Johnny Bravo!).

Worked wonders and I came back this weekend feeling really strong.
Nice fairly fast 56 miles on Saturday with some climbs and Sunday was mostly hill training for 41 miles including 3 laps of the iconic Zig Zag Road up Box Hill in Surrey (part of the 2012 Olympic course).

107 miles for the week and 447 for the month so far.

@wayneh73 great infographic! My local bike shop is an Aladdin's cave of totally obscure and incomprehensible gear, most of it expensive and very colourful.

5/22 - 14 miles - Went to a tri workshop yesterday morning, bought myself a tri kit afterwards and now am attempting to shift myself into obsessive tri training mode, cuz up until now I've been very successfully avoiding it. T minus 11 weeks until the tri. Biked to the gym, swam, biked home, ran. Wore the tri shorts for the ride and the run and they're surprisingly comfy. Alas, they're 110% unflattering, so I'm thinking I'll get a little skirt to wear over them in the future.
