A day for a couple of milestones. I overshot my goal by a lot this month. A had a number of good weekend days for long runs, and have finally been able to get up early enough in the not-darkness to run before work. But I also started to realize mid-month that I was within striking distance of 1,000 miles since I first entered an MFP challenge last July. 1,003 as of this morning's run. I also was in the Strava 200 km distance challenge. At 125+ miles, I think I made that, although Strava doesn't seem to agree. My two treadmill runs were tagged as 'workouts' instead of 'runs', so that may be why. Anyway, I've earned tomorrow's day off!3 -
@vandinem strava doesn't count treadmill runs for that challenge. It's easy to fake0
-
@AdrianChr92 Aha ... that's the Strava Secret. Too bad .. the 8.4 miles sure felt real. Oh well ... it was just a virtual trophy anyway, and I know I did it.0

Did some interval running with my brother . I thought it would be easy because he is a big guy (body builder) he almost killed me. He is so fast ! We only fought like 9 times so i am counting it as a successful run lol4

So today was my 10K race. I PRed with a 44:57. Every time I posted it on my wall my phone changed it to 45:57. Any way it was a warm one. My wife ran it today as well for her first 10K. She barely finished under 2 hours. As soon as I got done and got some PowerAde in me I went back out there and found her at mile 4.5'ish. We walked back together to the finish. Her ankle was swollen since she aggravated it (old injuries and arthritis). But so proud she finished.

Had a nice run this morning - it is so cool and just perfect running weather! If I could have gone just a bit further I would have made my goal today but will definitely make it tomorrow. My foot and knee complained just a bit today so I will be sure to stretch and ice them again. Also I decided to try my Inov-8s again today and they were actually ok. I had only worn them a couple of times to run in and didn't care for them much but have been wearing them to strength training. Today they felt good, if a bit stiff. Maybe I just need to wear them more.

Cotton Row 10K report
Unofficial 1;14.08 finished 1477 no idea of age group. Time is no where near my 10K PR.
I started the day not feeling very good, figured it was nerves. I never felt good in mile 1 but did a 9:57 split, then it hit me that it was more than nerves. I felt so sick, the sweat was pouring off me (it was about 70F at race start). I usually don't sweat that much during a race let alone on mile 1. By 1.3 I was walking, I have never walked in a race before (short of the hill in this 10K) ever. I wanted to stop there and have the EMTs take me away LOL. My calves started to cramp to the point I stopped and stretched, first time that happened. Finally I started to run alittle and walk alittle until I got to the hill from hell and it was all I could do to get up the hill. After that I did a better split but still had to walk again around mile 5.
My splits were 9:57 12:44 12:23 13:43 10:30 and 12:09. When I crossed the finish line I got really light headed and thought I was going to pass out. I found a spot to sit and Skip was there with water. We started to walk around a bit and I again I got sick and had to run to the ladies room. I was sweating so bad and thought I was going to pass out. We walked back to the car (about .5 mile) and I got sick again. It was a nightmare ride home, luckily she was able to drive because there was no way I could I kept feeling like I was going to pass out. I got home and laid down for a while and I'm just starting to feel better. Like I said race from hell.
Skip on the other hand did great. She ran a 54:36 cutting 4 minutes off her 10PR, finishing 482 overall and I think 4th or 5th in her age group. She was very happy with her race. It was fun to have people come up to me and compliment me on her race. It was her first "event" with her coach and she emailed her right away to let her know how to she did. Right now her Coach is in Poland visiting family but she did what she asked of her and started off a bit slower and finished up big.
I'll read everything else later, I need to get in the shower.
Edited to add: Skip was 4th in her AG and 1862 people finished the race. Skip amazes me top 25% of the finishers.

10k this morning. 9:40 average pace. Out about 3.5 miles then back with about .75 cool down walk. The 3.5 miles out is a lot of very gradual incline ending with a big climb. Considering I haven't ran this hill in 2 months I did pretty well. Made it up the worst of it then walked about .1 mile to the bathrooms/water fountain. Somebody was in the bathroom so I drank water and kept running to the end (still uphill). Back to the bathroom, now empty, paused my watch. Threw water all over myself in there. LOL It was low 70s with 75% humidity. I felt much better after that and after going down the big hill I settled into an 8:58 pace for the final 2.2 miles. 10 min into my drive home it was pouring rain with lightning and thunder
My lower leg felt better today. No running tomorrow. Normally take Wed/Thurs off but Wednesday is national running day So I'm ending May with 57.25 miles (goal was 45). Yay!
@stoshew71 Congrats on the PR!
@shanaber Cool weather? Jealous! Great pics too.2 -
@skippygirlsmom - I am so sorry it was the race from hell and I am amazed that you were able to finish it! Wow it sounds brutal! Tell that SkippyGirl congratulations on her awesome race and finish! She really is doing so well!
I hope you are feeling better!!2 -

Now I gotta figure out how to incorporate that into running. I feel fresh, not zapped like usual. Made a big difference.

@kimlight2 - I use plain water before and during and NUUN after. If it is hot and you are feeling dizzy while running you could try some NUUN during if your stomach can tolerate it.
@kimlight2 Skip used a drink mix from Skratch Labs that Fleet Feet recommended during the run today. She said it was great and better than straight up water. She likes the pineapple and the lemon/lime mix. She didn't like the taste of NUNN2 -
@skippygirlsmom Our posts crossed earlier so I'm back to say so sorry you felt so yucky Take it easy and stay hydrated.
@elise4270 Nice hiking
I am ridiculously anxious for my water bottle to arrive from amazon. It shipped usps so today being a holiday isn't helping. I hope it's here by Thursday for my next long(er) run Fri or Sat. By the way, I hadn't run 10k since March 28 when my sciatica acted up, so it felt good to be back at that distance.2 -
Great job on the races today! @skippysgirlsmom - sorry you felt terrible. You really gutted that out. Hope you are doing better.
@Stoshew71 great job on the PR. And congrats to your wife for finishing.
I didn't run today or yesterday. My knee feels okay but still a bit twingey when I move "just so". I was tempted to take an easy run but decided to rest up for one more day before my training group starts tomorrow night. I will then have a better idea of what I want to set for my June running goals too.
Hope everyone is having a good long weekend.3 -
Today I made the mistake of going out for a run in the middle of the day on an 88 degree day. Add to the fact that the Prairie Path is pretty much all in full sun, that made for a very bad run. I probably was only able to run about 20-25 minutes of the 4 miles I did (maybe 2 miles... MAYBE) because I kept feeling like I was overheating.
Yesterday I put in 2.4 miles on a easy jog, no issues... then again it was evening. Note to self: run in the evening.

However, she and Akamai the border collie/Australian shepherd play so hard....that he ruptured his ACL and needed semi-urgent surgery. So, instead of running much, I am dog-nursing. Not too sure I'll scoot past my scootch this month

Lots of posts to catch up on today! Hope everyone who raced this last weekend kicked kittens!
I wound up being up late last night with the holiday weekend and was not able to get out and run until later in the morning after it started warming up, and it is still quite humid. So I had some electrolyte drink before the run and carried my 32oz handheld bottle full of more electrolyte drink. I was notably slower at the same effort/HR as would be expected and was managing well on my hilly route until a big hill on mile 4 when I was into tempo HR range while going turtle slow and I just stopped and started walking. I never decided to walk or gave it any thought, it just happened. So I took a big swig of drink and started running again after cresting the hill. But on a later hill I had to walk yet again as my HR was just pushing too high on the hills.
So I figured I would go home after the first turnaround getting about 9 or 10 miles. But by mile 6 I had finished my drink and could tell I needed water, not electrolyte drink. So I stopped at a store and filled up my bottle from a drinking fountain while also getting a good drink of water.
After leaving the store I felt a lot better and decided to run my full route anyway. After the next turn near mile 8 I again was unable to top a hill without feeling the need to walk. So by mile 8 I decided to call it a day and walked about 2 miles home (but didn't record or log it because I'm trying to run hills dammit).
While the run was a bit of a failure, on the upside I did surpass my goal of 200 miles for May today, the first time I have ever run 200 miles in a month!

@stoshew71 -Congratulations to you and your wife. Sounds like you had a great run and great job on her part to get around and not give up.
@skippygirlsmom - I'm sorry you are not feeling well. Hope you feel better now, hopefully it is only the heat or something minor. Congratulations to Skippy that is awesome! Thanks for the info on the drink mix. I will try that also. I tried Nuun at the Cleveland Marathon race expo, and it wasn't bad but had a weird aftertaste.
@HonuNui - Awww. She is so cute.

Only missed goal by 1 mile. Not bad. I didn't add in all the partial miles so I am counting it as a win.
First run in the park without Neeko. It was weird but kind of nice not having to worry about the other dogs out there and their stupid owners. It was not crazy hot and humid so that was nice, but I think it would have been even less humid if I ran on the streets instead of in the park but it was still good. I made sure to drink 2 bottles of water before I left and 1 on the way home and I didn't get as dizzy as I usually do so that is a start.2 -

I didn't race, and my cat is about 3 years old now, but she managed to stand behind me as I went down for a pigeon pose to stretch my hip abductor on Saturday and whipped my trailing leg out behind me. So I guess this weekend I kind of kicked a kitten. (She forgave me.)2 -
Congrats @AdrianChr92 on running 6 days in a week! Hope your injury clears up.
@_nikkiwolf_ - Great timing on your electrolyte post! I ordered some electrolyte tablets yesterday because I have had a couple experiences (one today in fact) where I would have been best served with being able to balance my water, electrolytes and carbs all individually, not together. So I'm planning to take water, those tablets and some simple carb sources to see how that works.
Also congrats on topping 200k and for being in range of that incredible Strava climbing challenge!
@Elise4270 - The park is a great idea!
@greenolivetree - Way to tackle those hills!
@juliet3455 - Holy smokes congrats on the amazing race! Way to support those back of the pack runners too!
@shanaber - Who needs lush green trails when you have a beach!
Congrats @vandinem on topping the monthly and yearly goals!
Congrats @Stoshew71 on the PR! Hope your wife's ankle is OK soon.
Sorry to hear you were under the weather @skippygirlsmom, but you toughed it out like a champ! Congrats to Skip though!
@RespectTheKitty - The heat is tough at first. It kicked my butt today. It is good training still and you will notice results.

Haha! I kicked mine and she's 10 months. But in all fairness, she runs in front of me. Kind of kitty trippin'.1 -

Thanks everyone for getting on board with the running wish park. There should be pools of various temps, all in little circles and an island in the middle for food and drinks.
Kind of just torture thinking about the ideal running park.1 -
@Elise4270 - there should be beer and pizza near the exit. Or did you already plan that?3

WhatMeRunning wrote: »@Elise4270 - there should be beer and pizza near the exit. Or did you already plan that?
The island serves beer and tacos (not made with cat food- taco bell), like a fuzzy's tacos.. I hadn't though of pizza (not gluten free, so)... I dropped the ball on the mental placement of pizza. No worries, there's plenty room for the pizza. I mean, the park is huge and the pizza is on the other side of the park.
Trails are 100 miles for the cyclists and there's an ironman triathlon loop each with race like transition areas...of course there's a sprint distance. And loops for the runners that are 50 miles with water/fuel stations.
And theres a steak house for rest days.
So.... some day, in this life or another......we will run care free. Oh and if you wanna work at the park, it only employes athletes and pays way more than you make now... year 'round.
My life is empty......
Hey- it's like 6 flags for runners!8 -

@whatmerunning Exit, why the kitten would you ever want to leave. Running, swimming, biking, beer, pizza and everything else. Made me think of the Eagles and Hotel California.
A very light/easy 5km stretch run tonight. Well the data says it was easy and light but that's not what my body was saying. Lots of complaining and parts that kept saying I'm stiff go laydown, put your feet up and relax.
That will be it for the month as tomorrow night is Triathlon Swim club so no running. See everyone in June.
