I pouted a little as I walked in the cardio room with intentions to slay my eagerly anticipated intervals tonight.
Someone was using - MY - treadmill. (Okay, fine, it's not mine. Stomp!) As a result, the less securely attached and not nearly as clean TV (which usually shows the reflection of Fierce Leigh) displayed instead a Vibrating, Wobbly, Fuzzy Leigh. As you can imagine, this is not very motivating.
Still I did my intervals at up to 6.0 (steady)/7.9 (couldn't quite get that 8.0) on the TM.
BTW, I do know Fierce Leigh is all in my mind. (But she has to be there.) To everyone else, it's Holy Crap I Bet She's Going to Fall Off that Thing Soon Leigh. Or Does She Know Her Face Is that Red? Leigh. (Yes, she does.)

@Elise4270 - Good plan with the time off (the kitten, coffee, nap, that is).
Good luck on your race tonight @katharmonic!
@cljoe7 - Get well soon!
@MNLittleFinn - I would suggest resting too, but watch out because I wound up getting injured so my advice might be risky.
@5BeautifulDays - Let me know when you find a dragon. I think I could use one too.
Re: Road ID, I should get one, but if I die out there I want them to have a little bit of mystery to figure out after I went through all that effort to run to death. I worked hard, so should they. Since I have no allergies they can do whatever normal protocol dictates.
@moyer566 - Those epic wipes are interesting for sure. Could also make a terrible gag gift about a large butt or something.
@AdrianChr92 - You and the other uninjured runners just keep on running so we sidelined folks have something to wish we were doing.
@louubelle16 - Your new job situation sounds great for running addiction...I mean, running goals!
Way to recover @ceciliaslater!
Welcome @Josh_lol !
@4leighbee - I'm sure it was your fierce face. It's like finish line photos. The more bad *kitten* you try and look the more it looks like your about to stumble face down and die.

I may have lucked out with this foot issue. I don't know why it did not hurt when I fell but based on the area of pain, how I could not put any pressure on it last night and requiring crutches, the improvements this morning to now being able to walk with no increase in pain (but lingering sorebess), I am quite certain it was a subluxated cuboid. It would have happened when my ankle rolled and miraculously did not result in ankle injury. Sometime overnight, perhaps when I moved my foot about to stretch/move it testing motion/pain and to give it mild exercise it may have moved back in place some. Today as I narrowed the cause down I did some work to aid the cuboid into place (didn't feel it move though). At this point I'm waiting for the soreness to dissipate before testing levels of pushing off on it. I may be back sooner than I thought.

@whatmerunning. I'm totally leaning toward resting an extra day. It's not like I'm going to lose any cardio running 2-3 days this week instead of my normal 5...1

June Running Totals (miles)
6/1 – rest day
6/2 – 6.11 easy
6/3 – rest day
6/4 – 7.21 easy with hills
6/5 – 7.42 easy
6/6 – rest day
6/7 – 8.56 easy
June total to date – 29.30
Nominal Challenge Goal – 100 miles
Real Goals: Recover from injury to the point where running feels normal again. Stretch goal, recover to the point where I can run at race pace.
Today's notes – Tuesday is speed work with the running club. I knew in advance that I wasn't up to speed work, but I went anyway. Did a 2 mile warmup with a group, listened to the pep talk, then went out for an easy out and back while the healthy runners were doing some tough speed work aimed at McMullen Mile on Friday or the Boilermaker 15K in July. With low humidity and temp in the low 60s (teens C), I wanted 8 miles. Settled for 6.5 ish on the out and back, for more than 8 on the day but not a full hour of continual running.
I'm in the boring part of recovery that never shows in the movies, past the epic failure scenes where I can't do much of anything, and nowhere near the triumphal return to racing. Progress is slow, but there is progress. I had some nice stretches that felt pretty normal, mostly on the flat, soft crushed stone surface of the Erie Canal Trail. Might have been able to stretch it to 8 miles on the out and back, but I'm happy with over 8 on the day and a rest day tomorrow.
My aspirations have become muted. I now aspire to running regularly and completing the Four Seasons Challenge. I won't be competitive in my age group for the Rochester Runner of the Year series, because I will miss too many of those races. I'm not going to run as many races in 2016 as I did in 2015, and that's okay. Getting healthy is more important than running a lot of races right now. By September, I want to be healthy enough that I can be confident about running a marathon next April.
2016 races:
January 1, 2016 Resolution Run 7.5 mile (Mendon, NY) finished in 53:58
January 9, 2016 Winter Warrior Half Marathon (Gates, NY) finished in 1:30:59

April 24, 2016 Flower City Challenge Half Marathon (Rochester, NY) finished in 1:36:50, targeting MP

Heading out to Savannah and Charleston tomorrow, so not sure how much running will actually get accomplished. But since it turned hot so much earlier than I expected, I had to go out for awhile tonight just to get my steps in. Found a decent new course to play with....
Guess we'll see how the rest of the week pans out for mileage.3 -

I will jump I here a little late. I just started running. I have done it off and on for years but I am very slow and don't get too far . My husband on the other hand will just go out for 10 miles like it's nothing! I will shoot for 25 miles with 5 already done.5

OK, I have to share this before I go to bed - I'm so excited about how my race went tonight. I feel really renewed about this whole running thing!
JP Morgan Corporate Challenge - 3.5 miles
The weather ended up being about perfect for running, low 60's and low humidity after rain showers earlier in the day. I did 30 minutes of yoga before leaving for the race which I feel helped me relax and stretched me out.
The traffic was a nightmare getting there and the whole scene of the race was a zoo. It was the biggest one I've been to yet. I was with people from work for our team, but they were mostly walking. I had planned to meet up with another running friend to run with but it was impossible so I ended up running alone. I was worried that would make me lose motivation.
The race started out in 3 waves, I was in the second wave. It was so congested at the start and for the first mile was a lot of people dashing and weaving. My pace was a little too fast so I tried to slow it down a little but kept being surprised every time I looked at my Garmin that I was still at a fast pace for me. It was a straight out and back and I felt strong at the turnaround and just kept trying to focus on keeping my breathing steady and doing some encouraging self talk. And before I knew it, I was done!
Official time: 36:08 for 3.5 miles
Garmin time for 5k: 32:02, a new personal best
Average pace was 10:16
1 mile splits: 9:54, 10:09, 10:33
Before today, I have never had times like this - I'm usually an 11:00 minute miler on a good day and 12-13 minutes on base runs. I can't stop smiling.
Thanks for reading and indulging this newbie runner13 -
Ended up doing a bonus treadmill mile yesterday before lifting, and got in 10 more miles this afternoon with some friends. Ended up splitting into 2 groups on today's run as a friend wanted to catch up about a mutual acquaintance and she tends to run faster, but I had some good conversations with the other two about Kazakhstani gender relations after she split off.
Made some very poor food choices the past few days (including getting all-you-can-eat seats for today's double-header vs. the Mets), so I'm going to resume my food logging here, as I'd like to run Chicago at 150 (10lb loss) in October, and would rather gradually shed 0.5lb/week over the next 3 months instead of just losing 1lb/week for my last 2 months when doing my long runs.
6/1 - 4 miles
6/2 - 8 miles
6/3 - 13.5 miles
6/5 - 13.5 miles
6/6 - 9 miles
6/7 - 10 miles
Total: 58 miles
Goal: 200 miles
Remaining: 142 miles
2016 Race Schedule:
Disney Marathon - Jan 6 - 3:29:09
Gasparilla 15K - Feb 20 - 1:01:59
Ironman 70.3 Florida - Apr 10 - 5:07:51
Pittsburgh Marathon - May 1 - 3:08:25
Ironman 70.3 Augusta - Sep 25
Chicago Marathon - Oct 9
Ironman Florida - Nov 53 -

The discussion about running and partners is really interesting
Most people are looking for partners that are supportive, but I think people should simply look after someone that love them for what they are. My vision is very simple: running is a sport that requires lots of time, and it is an extreme lonely activity. I strongly believe that if someone loves you and accepts you for what you are, this person doesn't need to be supportive, this person simply...loves you, so no justifications/bad feelings if you disappear for 3 hours during a Sunday for a long run for example (with common sense obviously, not saying that someone should go for a run on their daughter's wedding day for example). Otherwise is not the person for you.
Unfortunately, waking up at 4am for a run or running 300 miles per month are activities that are seen as not "really normal" (cannot find other words) by the majority of people, including partners.
But the biggest mistake someone can do, in my opinion , is to try to change themselves to please someone else. Because in the end, not accepting your running passion is simply one of many other creeps in a relationship.

@katharmonic - congratulations! Sounds fun!
@whatmerunning - glad it seems to be not as bad as you first thought.
@patrikc333 - funny, I never thought about people changing to please someone else. I always think of people trying to change their partner. Married 30 years... of course, many ups and downs. We've been on an up the past few years and part of it is the empty nest. Loved raising the kids and all that, but to be back on our own alone, and do what we want is great! He's always doing nice things for me and supporting me, and I do the same.
Finally got to run today. It was 95% humidity. Long run tomorrow and then start my traveling until July. I'm having trouble keeping up while home so not sure I will keep up while away. But, keep up the great runs! And no one else get hurt!
6/1 - 22 miles cycling
6/2 - 5 miles + strength training
6/3 -rest and recovery day
6/4 - 34 miles cycling
6/5 - 42 miles cycling
6/6 - rest day - only 4 hours sleep - didn’t think I should
6/7 - strength training + 1 mile on treadmill (tropical storm rest day)
6/8 - 5 miles - yay! finally

@katharmonic - Yeah, that sounds about like my experiences with the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge in Rochester, which is one of the smaller locations where it's run. About 10 thousand runners, 3 waves, crowded, and you get fooled into running faster than you thought because passing people who aren't running seriously turns into competing with runners comparable to you.
I've pretty much come to the conclusion that the Corporate Challenge is more of an event than a race, because more than half the participants aren't really there to run. The point is the socializing and the food. The last couple of years I volunteered instead of running, due to personal circumstances. That was fun, too.

@greenolivetree. I always read it in reverse, like you, until I find something familiar or my past post. I've learned to go back a bit past that because I miss posts, or its not updated last I looked.
I should run today. Feeling a bit rebellious to have to do anything. Even if it's running. I need to swap vehicles with DH and pick up some trees, bushes, and flowers (freebies because he's American Indian descent) . I'm seriously resistant and I'm not sure why. Maybe a few cups of Joe will set me right.
I will run. I can do this... and I will love it.
Maybe I'll get the landscape package tomorrow... before the appraiser shows up.4 -

Wow. I have spent the last two days trying to catch up with everything I missed over the weekend and in the process, I managed to get even further behind! Kudos to those of you that are able to keep up with this thread and offer support to everyone who deserves it. I think I have finally just resigned myself to the fact that it will never happen on my end. But I do know that you all are a bunch of major *kitten* kickers!
Just thought I would share this little ditty with you guys since I know some, if not most of you can relate (at least to parts of it!). I have a running duffle that I keep around to take my clothes with me when running after work or wherever. It tends to become a catch all of sorts for my running odds and ends and is in desperate need of a good cleaning out. Yesterday, prior to my run, I was in need of a necessity that I usually keep in my bag. I ended up emptying my bag trying to find one and here were its contents:
The running shoes, shorts, tank and bra that I had put in there in the morning. Plus-
My Garmin Forerunner 220 and charger
My Garmin Forerunner 305 and charger
My iPod shuffle and charger
charger for my old iPod shuffle that went through the wash
2 additional sports bras
my 10oz hand held Nathans bottle/pouch
running cap
5 head bands
winter hat with LED lights
another head band
2 pairs of gloves
my head lamp
LED wrist bands (2)
reflective wrist band
blinking clip light
stretch bands
brush
vaseline
lip balm
foot lotion
band aids
muscle icy lotion samples
body spray
deodorant (2 tubes)
2 pairs of gloves
arm band holder for my now defunct iPod Nano
extra pair of shoe inserts
assorted goos
a handful of pony tail holders (my hair isn't anywhere near long enough for a ponytail these days)
Flying Pig buff
safety pins galore
Pretty much everything except the one thing I needed. And,ladies, I am pretty sure that you can guess what that was. Maybe I should have called @karllundy

It seems, this month, the group is teeming with runners! I can't keep up either. I think the distribution of newbies to , newly experienced runners, and seasoned runners are more than adequate to manage this in a hit and miss fashion.
This months motto: Relax and run!6 -
01/06 4 miles
07/06 4 miles
08/06 4 miles
On the partner support, my husband is supportive of me running as he knows how much better I feel when I run regular. If I'm feeling down and lazy he'll tell me to pull on my runners and go. On the other hand 2 years ago my father made me feel really foolish and embarrassed in front of some people saying I was making a show of myself. It really knock me, I started to doubt myself even though I tried not to let it. I stopped for about 4 months and gained 1.5 stone. I gradually got past it though with encouragement from others.
