@MobyCarp sorry about the face plant. Glad you weren't hurt worse, but ouch!
@Orphia - wow, gorgeous! Sounds grueling but amazing.
I did my last run of my vacation today - just 2.07 miles on a paved path along the river. The weather was hot but not as humid as it has been this week. I also went kayaking both this morning and last night so I wasn't too energetic.
All in all a good vacation/visit with my family and I got my running in all but 1 day. There are a lot of good running routes here, but the heat and humidity was intense.
Total for June

@river4rosas Welcome to the group then
@Orphia That looks really awesome
I wore glasses today because it was so sunny and I think I should invest in a not so cheap pair as these hurt my nose

@Orphia The pics!
@JessicaMcB LOL kids gone wild....
Not sure if I'm running today. Church then father's day lunch with my father in law (yesterday was dinner with my dad)....
So probably depends on how much food I've eaten and if I feel up to an evening run. I may just do Monday and Tuesday morning. Or Monday and Wednesday morning. I have no real schedule lately. Just fit it 4 runs a week. Morning running (mid week) opens up a whole new world of opportunities to run

I must be learning to listen to my body. Got up for my 4 mile recovery run, but my ankle/Achilles area on my right side was a little sore. Starting taper a bit early with a day of rest and maybe walking today.7

I finally did both my long runs in a weekend! Yay! This week's weather was much more favorable; last week I started at 6 am and it was already 75F. Today, it was 60F when I started at 5:45 and 70F when I finished a little after 8 am. Humidity was lowish (between 65 and 75%), there was a little breeze, and I ran a pretty shady route, so I didn't feel overheated and awful (though I do still smell awful and am drenched head to toe in sweat). I am now chowing down on my post-run Flavor Ice pops and my plan for the day is: eat, shower, nap, eat, nap, eat. YAY NAPS.
Happy Father's Day to all your MFDads out there!

7/4: A 4th of July race somewhere!

Sorry. Life events preventing me from posting here, but still maintaining my running, I promise you.
Goal is 50 miles this month, which would be a record for me. Next scheduled half is in October (Indianapolis Marathon).
6/6: 8 miles
6/12: 4 miles
6/16: 3.88 miles
6/17: 6 miles
6/18: 9 miles
Total is 30.88 miles...trying to get 12 more this week and at least 8 the following week.
Really focused on recovery, which I have blown off in the past, but, I started taking long walks after my run....and it has really made a difference...not as many sore muscles.7 -
Can you feel me, bro?

I had such a nice run today I felt horrendous before I left (life is just getting on top of me at the moment) but I told myself running would help and I could come home after a mile and eat ice cream instead if I was still feeling sucky. I only planned to do 3 or 4 miles anyway, after having felt so ill when running during the week, but I had such a nice run that I couldn't bring myself to turn round and ended up running 6 miles. I could have run more, but I made myself stop because this already puts me above my weekly mileage goal and I'm determined not to over-do it and end up injured when I've done so well so stay injury-free. It was just so nice running through the woods and the fields and listening to the silence and enjoying the fresh, cool breeze (which makes a nice change!), I could happily have stayed there for hours. Definitely on a bit of a runner's high right now

Sorry about the tumble, @MobyCarp . I'm sure you won't let that slow you down too much, though!
Those are amazing pictures, @Orphia . That looks like a wonderful experience.
Today I pushed through some achy knees to get started, but other than that had a really pleasant 4.25-mile run on the rail-trail loop. The weather was warmish but only 25% humidity with a little breeze and I was under tree cover for about half of it. My right knee is still feeling a little stiff; not sure what's up with that.
ETA: It looks like my original goal of 75 miles might not have been out of the question after all!

Nominal Challenge Goal – 100 miles
Real Goals: Recover from injury to the point where running feels normal again. Stretch goal, recover to the point where I can run at race pace.
Today's notes – The alarm went off early for the 5K. I needed more sleep, so I reset it for 6 AM. At 6 I still needed more sleep, so I turned off the alarm. Got up a bit past 7, feeling well rested after sucking up almost 10 hours of sleep.
In theory, I could have rushed and made it to the 5K with gun time 8:30. In practice, I thought it better to bag the idea and take the morning routine slow while I assessed how I felt. As expected, I felt the shoulder bruise while doing my pull-ups. A surprise was that I felt sore triceps while doing my push-ups. I guess the first point of contact was my hands, and that put some stress on the tris. If I hadn't been doing push-ups regularly, maybe my head would have hit the pavement harder and things would be worse? Doing the light jogging up and down my hallway, I felt the road rash on my legs. Say what? Where's that injured hip abductor?
So . . . I decided I'd go out and aim for 10 to 12 miles. I wasn't confident enough of this to just do a big 12 mile loop; I ran an ad hoc route that had opportunities to adjust longer or shorter. It was 75° F (24° C) when I started, and it warmed to 85° F (29° C) as I ran. The humidity was pretty noticeable. It got more and more miserable as I continued. My singlet was soaked and stuck to my body by the time I quit at 8.27 miles. I passed on an opportunity to extend to 9 miles, deciding that 8 was enough. I was feeling the heat and humidity, and didn't want to take a chance because I didn't understand how much energy was being diverted to healing up the road rash.
The good news is that most of the run felt normal. If I paid close attention, I could feel that my right leg still isn't 100%; but when I wasn't paying attention, it wasn't noticeable. It felt normal going uphill at 5.5 miles, and I had to pay attention to feel it going down the other side of that hill.
Absent yesterday's face plant, I think I would have been in good enough shape to run the 5K. I might have been in good enough shape to run it at 10 AM; but I wasn't in good enough shape to make it to an 8:30 gun time. That's life.
This week, I'll stick to running 4 days. If recovery continues at its recent pace, I might be ready to go back to 5 running days next week. Or maybe not. I'll listen to my body.

Been spending much more time on the bike this week (2+ hours/day for the last 4 days) as the mid 90s temperatures w. high sun/humidity in Florida have been making outdoor running pretty burdensome. Might not be a great idea cutting back from a 60 mile week to a 20 mile week, but I am getting in quite a bit of walking, biking, and swimming regardless. Still, got in a bit of time on the treadmill on Friday and did an early morning bike/run workout at a reasonably fast pace today. Returning to the north tomorrow which should get me back out on the trails for a higher (60) mileage week.
6/1 - 4 miles
