Hello all. Deep in the thick of unexpected problems with renovations. My family's anxieties are running high. We bring it out in each other. Just being with each other seems to make us more and more anxious. Helping my eldest disabled sister is bringing out a tremendous amount of fear and sadness with many of us. I feel the need to fix it but I simply can't. Instead I will paint her bedroom. Instead I will exercise and then make her dinner. I am not drinking coffee past my first cup in the a.m as my insomnia is getting worse as the days go on.
A Text from DH reminds me to not fall into the pit. Wise words.

Please send up your thoughts, prayers and strength to me as I navigate this week. Is it really only Wednesday???

NYKAREN I have no idea if this little saying will help you, but it comes from my mom's "words of wisdom" collection and it goes like this:

"Do everything in your power to get the outcome you want...and then let go of the outcome."

It worked for her, and it works for me. You can only do what you can do. You can't control the outcome, so you may as well not fret over it.

It sounds to me as if you are making good choices in a difficult situation. And I will send strength to you, here it comes!!! t31187.gif

    @Cmmom2 Welcome Aboard!

Janetr7476 – DDnL#2 went to a certified makeup Specialist, too; one reason she had to go ‘out-of-town’ to get it done. I’d like to get my eyebrows done, lightly. It’s been that long, probably, since she had hers done. She swears by it – says it is great not to have to spend time with make-up when you’ve got to take a child to school in one direction; and, go to work in the opposite direction. When they stay out at the lake it’s a little further and they have to leave earlier. She’s a beautiful young lady and I would have never guessed that she had had that done. Looks so natural. ;)

Meg – I put my labels in the ‘burn pile’ and the containers in my kitchen garbage container. I rarely have left-over medication as I will cut them in half or double up, if my MD changes my dosage. He tested my thyroid yesterday because my neck was very tender and sore; and, it was difficult to swallow. Felt like I had something stuck in my throat. It’s a lot better now. Gave me my B-12 shot because the one I took to my weigh in was out-of-date. I need to check my other vials to make sure they’re not out-of-date. Then he gave me a steroid of some type; one of them in my arm, the other in my butt; so, I had both butt cheeks sore from that; left arm from shot, right arm for drawing blood. I need to take my own ‘special’ Band-Aids, like my ‘super heroes’. Told me to stay ‘out of the sun’ during the hottest time of the day … 10 – 2. I’ve had some dizzy moments when I stand up; the medication he is giving me is supposed to help that. We’ll see. :#

KYKAREN – I wonder why it is already Wednesday! :o

I’m not sure that DDnL#1 got the job she had interviewed for a week ago; they were supposed to make a decision by Monday. She hasn’t said either way; and, I have not asked. Maybe DOS will tell his Daddy today at work. Their best friend’s mother died this morning. She had cancer; he is an ‘only’ child. They don’t know if they’ll go down, mainly because without that 2nd income, they really don’t have the money (unless they stay with them, which is probably not the best thing); and, they put her Grandmother into ‘hospice care’ … she has ‘just given up’ and tells her daughter that all the time. One son, lives in the Griffin, GA area and he ‘might’ have come down once – she has another locally who has not gone to see her at all. DDnL#1 is ‘livid’ … I’m staying out of her way.
She filled out a job application for a job in the next county.

Janetr - How much did you have to pay to have the eyebrows and eyeliner done; private message me if you don't want to post it here. If you haven't made friends, then I guess you'll have to unless I have previously asked you to be my friend. Does it hurt, is there any irritation or swelling?

I personally skim thru so I can keep up., I'm not a "novel" poster. some get kinda long. usually, if someone is addressing you in their post, they will put your login in bold or quote your post like I just did.

Tracie – I am so sorry to hear about your dad and his potential urostomy. And I hope that your dad is able to get over his anger and find the support he needs.

Joyce – You’ve got me googling… ileostomy vs urostomy vs colostomy. I get such an education on this forum.

DJ – Sorry your DH had to sit at the vet’s only to leave and make an appointment with a different vet. We have a vet that we have gone to for 20+ years and we just love him. Hope that Pepper feels better and you are able to find a good vet.

Your story of waiting at the vet reminded me of waiting for my daughter. She is 19 and finally “graduated” from her pediatrician to my general practitioner. She wanted me to take her to the doctor but she did not want me to go into the room with her for her physical. So, I sat in the waiting room and waited and waited and waited. Finally, the receptionist said she would go in and check on her for me. Well, she had seen the doctor and they had taken some blood for lab work. But, they forgot to tell her that she could leave after the lab tech came to draw her blood. So she was sitting there waiting for someone to come tell her she could leave. Poor girl. LOL

Allie – My FIL was always wanting to go out for a walk when he first moved into the care center. But, with his dementia, they could not let him go out and walk by himself because he may have gotten lost. He now has to wear a tracker. It is like one of those ankle bracelets that people on house arrest have to wear. He hates it, but it does alert the staff when he tries to wander out of the care center on his own.

Dawn – If you have been at the same weight for three weeks or more, are accurately logging your food, following your calorie allowance, and exercising, then it’s time to switch something up. There are lots of different reasons that people hit a plateau. Based on your post, I would guess that stress may be your culprit. Here are a few tips that might help… (1) Make sure you are getting enough sleep. You can try taking Melatonin, a natural supplement, if you are having trouble sleeping. (2) Try taking a few minutes each day to meditate. (3) Eliminate caffeine in your diet. It is known to stimulate the production of cortisol, our stress hormone. (4) Eat less refined carbs & sugars and more complex carbs and protein. The refined carbs spike insulin where the complex carbs help keep cortisol levels lower. (5) Make sure you are staying hydrated because dehydration causes stress on your body.
Now all that said, I need to go take my own advice. I’ve been fighting a plateau myself. 

OK, have spent too much of my day getting caught up here. Have to get back to work, then heading to the gym tonight to learn how to do their circuit.

I was going to post about my past weekend on Monday and then Monday reared up and knocked me down. So...

Last Friday evening I joined 5 friends and we went out to dinner followed by a Peter Yarrow concert. For those who need a hint - think of the 60's trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Peter Yarrow is that Peter. This wizened, adorable gnome of a man tottered out onto the stage. His hands were shaking so badly I immediately thought he would not be able to play his guitar. Then he brought the guitar up and magically he fingered the strings while his other hand moved along the frets and he was marvelous. The whole audience joined in singing "Puff the Magic Dragon", "If I had a Hammer", "Blowin' in the Wind" and so many other old favorites from my past. A very good evening indeed.

Saturday I went to a Red Hat lunch. Sunday I spent 6 hours in the glass studio.

Since my surgery 8 weeks ago I have really only left the house to go to work and maybe out to dinner. I certainly haven't spent this much time driving around and either being sitting or being on my feet. So this was a very full weekend with no time for naps and putting my feet up. I survived it! Now I really feel well on the road to recovery.

Monday I was informed that due to cost cutting moves my last day of work will be August 12. I am being replaced by a cheaper consultant. I have the great pleasure of having to train my replacement. My bank account is still recovering from 2 weeks of no pay while I was out for surgery so I'm not very happy about this turn of events. I'm also annoyed because the majority of people who come from the cheaper consultant firm have no clue how to do their job. I fear that "my" projects are going to suffer. I take great pride in doing the best job I can and I hate that the odds are quite good that the job won't be completed properly or on time. I also hate the suspicion that since I won't be there I will be blamed for any failure on my replacement's part. I also hate, hate, hate the whole process of looking for a new job and interviewing and all that other stuff that goes along with getting laid off.

So I spent Monday pouting and feeling sorry for myself. I've now picked myself up and am slowly pulling on my big girl panties. Getting laid off is one of the risks you run when you work as a consultant. I've started updating my resume and discovered a job fair that is being held this Friday so I'm starting the job hunt now even though I have 5 weeks before my end date. My petty self would really like to find a new job and quit before my end date. Knowing me, if I land a job I'll probably arrange to start after my end date so I give my current job all the time they need for me to train my replacement.

Attended my TOPS meeting and according to their digital scale I have lost .4 lbs :-) I will take it. I did have some coffee before I weighed in and its with clothes on, so different than the weight I put for here. The great thing is that even if I have gainedat a meeting, being there puts a "refocus" on my life. It takes a lot to go, when you know you have gained. Its easy to just stay at home and tell yourself, "Oh next week will be better". Then next week comes and you haven't lost what you had gained, and you have even gained a wee bit more. It's a terrible cycle of non-accountability. Today we voted on new officers. We got all new ones, so it will hopefully put some zip into the meetings. We have all been in a slump, with many of our members husbands passing away. So many of our ladies are dealing with so much more then simple weight gain. So we have to shelf the weight issue and just support the ladies mentally on other issues, like staying strong for their own physical well-being. I am thankful for my husband.

Well, I can have some of the roast and some potatoes with the baby carrots I am fixing for dinner tonight. 4 ozs worth of it anyways. Husband did buy a berry pie yesterday so my sister can have that for a dessert if she wishes some. She did not come here to eat anyways! I am still in shock that she called me to get us together.

Well, having the need to "flit around the house cleaning" (as my husband put it). I so don't "flit"...
    Take care all ((((((group hugs))))))))

I don't remember for sure, but somewhere in the $600-$700 range for all if it. I didn't have any swelling my eyes were fine, had to take a little more care with my eyebrows, same as any tattoo, but I went to work the next day and no one even knew I had it done.

Charlene- I hate to throw food away, so I totally understand holding onto the cake. I have a secret weapon. Good, dark chocolate. Especially flavored with chili. If you have to have a bite, have your bite, then toss the rest. A couple of weeks ago, I found myself dipping into my hubby's choc frosting. :( I went out the next day and bought myself a bar of dark chocolate and I have a square of that when I need something sweet (only once a day). I made that clementine cake for our anniversary and it was delicious and only about 150 calories a slice. But, after dh and dys had a piece; I ended up eating a piece a day for the next two days! And still had half a cake left! It hurt me to do it; but the anniversary cake went into the dumps! Here's hoping the marriage doesn't follow! ;)
Re- Thank you for sharing your childhood story! It is funny that media and people in general look back on childhood as some idyllic time; but I would say for most people...it was less than ideal.
    My Challenge goals:
    Beginning weight:204
Target weight (by December 24): 180
    Goal weight: 140-145

Charlie had his appointment with the surgeon this morning and no more packing!!!!!!!!!!!! There was really only about an inch or less I was putting in there and it was hurting him for me to get that much in. So it's just a bandaide no! That also means i am not checking on the bag. This particular bag has stayed on for 5 days. If it is still on tonight, we will change it tomorrow. I have an idea of how to make the positioning on his belly different. His belly button is in the way and it really interferes with the barrier seal.

We are not morning risers. Yesterday's appointment was 11:15 and this morning's 10:30 and that wears me out. OK girls, don't laugh. So right after we got home I went to bed and slept until about 1:30. So late lunch for me.Now I have to get in grocwry shopping and buying birthday present at the mall. So I had better get going.

cmmom2, welcome. I would normally say to pop in here when you can but I think it was our fearless leader Barbie that suggested you make a comment to at least one person everyday. Why don't you start out by telling us a little about yourself, your weight loss journey, a general area where you live and the name you want us to call you.

Back from DSIL'S celebration. Had to get an expensive taxi home, but everything is fine now. It was lovely to see the family, but I drank far too much Prosecco. :ohwell:

My son is in his new home this evening, but he is sad to have left London. The removal men were still assembling beds etc at 18.19 when he sent the text. I am just so glad they have made it.

This morning I had lost my post cruise/depression weight, which really cheered me up, but I ate far too much at the party. My vegetarian niece grilled some haloumi and that finished me off. But I really was cheered by this morning's weigh in.
