August (2016) Running Challenge

So my plan is to increase by 10 miles each month...so for this month my goal will be 70 miles...I was only 0.06 from reaching it last month..so pretty achievable if stay focused and don't injure myself.4
-
I'm in for 120 - made it in July even with taper so I should be able to hit it in August.6
-
I only just started running, so setting myself a target of just 31miles/50km - if all goes well I'll be able to set better sounding targets in future months!5
-
Trust me to start the month with a rest day! Let's just call this Zen Mode.
OK, Brains Trust...
The longest I've done since my first half marathon on June 26 is 17 km a week ago.
I have a virtual half planned for September 18. Need to think about how long my long runs should be between now and then.5 -
Well, I've not been running for long... So I'm going to aim for 50 miles this month. It's a start!
Mind you, scheduling might be interesting at times!6 -
August already!
I finished July on a high. Not only did I reach my goal I passed it! With a PB for 10km. And longest continuous running at 6:3km!
August means four weeks from work, I work in a college, not just being lazy and enjoying the weather. I have a HM in September so I need to up at least one run distance.
July goal 110km with two extra for those injured, I managed 117km.
August goal 120km! That seems a lot!
Good luck everyone with your goals.
Happy running5 -

8/1 4.01 Miles
total/monthly goal: 4.01/125
First run of August! Monday is always a shorter run for me. Ran 4,01 miles in 38:13, for an average pace of 9:32. However, I was at 9:44 average through mile three. I added five 30 second bursts at 6-7:00/mile during mile four, and that really dropped my average pace.
Tomorrow is a midweek long hilly run. Hoping to get in close to 9 miles with, hopefully, decent elevation.
And...On a related side note. I'm totally over the small insanity of thinking about running a full this year. I just needed to run. Also, on the run this morning, I decided some personal goals. First goal is to run a sub 2 hour Half Marathon. I think I'll be close to 2 hours at my September HM (well, 2:05-2:10 range), so a Sub 2 sometime next season should be doable. AFTER that, I want to run a full.8 -
8/1: 3.6 miles w/ the Coffee Crew
Taking it easy for the first half of this week, so I slept in a bit and went to just the second loop of my coffee group run. I'm starting my new job tomorrow, so I grabbed coffee and came right back home so I could shower and whatnot, then do a dry run of getting to work so I can actually make it there on time tomorrow (I excel at 2-5 min tardiness). Happy August, all!
Upcoming Races:
9/11: Lehigh Valley Via Marathon (Several Towns, PA)
(10/16: Halloween Half (Morristown, NJ) >> maybe)
11/20: Philadelphia Marathon (Philadelphia, PA)6 -

As always, thanks for setting this up, Stan!
I failed to meet my July goal, but not by too much. According to my half marathon training plan, I should be running about 70 miles this month, so I'll make that my goal.3 -
I had planned another 10K run this morning, but my body is telling me it needs a break. My rest day on Saturday wasn't really restful as I did a HIIT workout followed by yoga. Body is sore and it's enjoying lounging in bed at the moment. lol
I may start fresh tomorrow. I did do 2 10Ks in 3 days this past weekend so I figure I deserve this day off.3 -
@TattooedDolphinGirl78 doing a HIIT routine definitely isn't a rest day...LOL...on my rest days, the most I do is a couple hours of walking. You'll get back into it tomorrow and it will all be good.2
-
@MNLittleFinn I'll probably go for a walk at some point today but yes, I realize that my running rest day should have been a little less intense. lol2

Hello, all. I posted a question to the group discussion page: Running in the UK While on Vacation. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!0
-
According to my training plan today is a rest day. My body is aching from lifting session as well. To do or not to do is the question... Still have to cover those miles. So going for a run now. Will not cover 10 km probably...still something is better than nothing!

Thank you! Anything's helpful. I did some googling, but it's always nice to have the opinion/research of others.0 -

Hmm...Not sure where to set the bar this month. I eked out 10.5 miles last month, but only started running part way through the month.
I think I will go for 40 miles--approximately 10 miles per week and see how it all works out. I can't wait to get back to my 100+ mile months...7 -
In for 75...fingers crossed! Going to start with HM group training, but run on a M-Th-F-Sat schedule to try to make sure my hip pain doesn't return. Still occasionally feels tight, but never sore or painful.
8/1 - Intended to run 4, but oversleeping and a thunderstorm kept it from happening :-(
@Orphia - no expert, but I would do about 11 miles one week before and back off one mile for each Sunday before that as your long run. That assumes it fits into your schedule as not too high a % of your miles.
@AdrianChr92 - great pic with the new kicks!

@ceciliaslater I think 40 sounds good. I know how you feel, I felt like I was hurt for a year I was so excited with my mileage last month I felt so good to get back up there.
@mbaker566 OUCH! what in the world, bees are definitely not your friend
@kristinegift good luck on the job tomorrow! Can't wait to hear about your first day. It's big fun running in the morning and getting to work on time. When I first started to run I would get to work at 7:15, then 7:30 then 7:45. My boss and I were talking and he said I can tell your runs are getting longer and longer LOL. Now if I'm here at 8:30 I'm happy! ha ha
@mustb60 remember those rest days are as important as running days.
@adrianchr92 love the propulsion shoes! I showed Skip the picture of your running group and the first thing she said was "I love the water cooler" followed up by "they look like a bunch of fun people to run with".
@MNLittlefinn I was going to agree with Kristine and then I saw you next post about the full. You should volunteer at a full if you can some time. It will give you are whole new appreciation for it. I get urge from time to time to run one, of course I'm usually drunk at the time I think some day I will do one, but from talking to my friends (and the folks here) training for a full is another full time job. Time wise I can't swing the training, mostly because I don't want to take that time from Skip. You have plenty of time for a full.
@orphia - I had day 1 rest days - happy Zen Mode. As far as your runs training for your HM. I'm not expert but a few of the kids here told me if I can run 10 miles I can run 13 miles. They were right. I ran consistent 10 mile long runs leading up to my first HM and 1 12.5 mile run on the HM course just to experience most of the course before hand.
@tattooeddolphingirl78 this is me on my rest days
