Spent part of the day in the urgent care, having my right knee x-rayed. The good news is no fracture or dislocation...the doc thought that it was a contusion and that it would be better in about a week ...if I kept it elevated, wrapped, iced and took Ibuprofen or Aleeve. It was extremely painful most of the afternoon but improved significantly this evening. So the plan is not to run until next Friday...it should be better by then. I calculated how many days left in August and realized that I probably won't make goal. :(

@_nikkiwolf_ Thanks for the advice. Amazing accomplishment at running 30 km....I think that running in that much humidity is worse than extreme heat.
@katharmonic Congratulations on your 5K pr! I love your narrative...I felt like I could visualize the whole race.
@Orphia About 10 or 15 pages ago or so, you asked about Prednisone and maintenance weight. I am actually at my maintenance weight, but was taking Prednisone for poison ivy rash that was on my face and throat as well as my arms...it has to be tapered. It helps decrease the symptoms of a rash but the side effects are increased energy and restlessness and lack of sleep. At the end of the taper, I got pretty irritable and my husband's cheerfulness was really getting on my nerves.

Awaiting watching the men's marathon tomorrow. Meb K. was at our expo but I was too shy to meet him.

Sorry, couldn't have been me, I don't know what Prednisone is, and we don't get poison ivy here in Australia. I do recall someone having poison ivy rash, though, so I'm sure they'll be grateful for your thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your rash and side effects. Hope you're OK now.

    That would have been cool.

It's on so late at night here! I want to see it, but after getting 4 hours sleep due to tuning in to the women's marathon last week, I'm a bit wary.

Hi guys! I basically disappeared from the July challenge and never came back. XD I was ill for a while and was struggling to even keep my MA thesis going, so I basically dropped off the face of the earth and the internet. I haven't been running either. I'm trying to get back to it now, but I'll have to start from the beginning. Got nine minutes of running in this morning (1.2 km) before deciding that that was enough for today. Oh well. I'm looking forward to autumn and cool mornings.

@pthyay Yay for you! Kudos for your studying, MA no less, and bravo for getting back into running. Wise not to push it too far on your first day back.

Don't worry if you can't keep up with the pace in these threads. The important thing is you're hanging in there. Best wishes.

Let's felt great during first half of run today, took some mean hills to wear them out but still I keep being just slower than my PB. Grrrr when are all these miles and speed sessions going to make me quicker? 6 weeks to my 10k with a 2 week holiday in heat and humidity (not to mention the inevitable poor eating and alcohol choices) returning 1 week before the race. Any ideas what I am might be doing wrong?

I also think my iPhone is over reporting distance slightly which makes it worse. Moan over - men's marathon time.

Rest day here today. Glad of it, my butt is still hurting from the rock that attacked it yesterday.

Pretty sure they said his 5k time was 12:46. My husband said that can't be right! Haha! Idk man, sure that's what they said.

    8/21 Long run 8.56 miles

So tired this morning, but the wanted to get the long run in before it rained all day. It was humid but cooler with a nice breeze every so often. My friend and I chose a trail we hadn't done before and it was nice to have some new scenery and a buddy to chat with during the 1:45 run. We re-hashed our 5k from yesterday and talked a lot about our upcoming half marathon in October.

I ended the week with 23 miles, so didn't quite make my goal of 25. Still pretty good on the August goal though as I'm at 75%.

@elise4270 Rupp was on the phone after he finished, from his face it didn't look like he was talking to family.
When they interviewed Kipchoge he was so hard to understand that the guy interviewing him asked him to repeat something but when he said it again he still didn't catch it and moved on.

Long run this morning. I'm getting better at getting myself up early to get out on these runs, I was at my run location by 7:30am. Humidity was around 80% but the temperature was quite a bit cooler than the last couple weekends and there was a fabulous breeze! I was adding a mile to my distance, to hit 11 miles, so I went to my flat place. 3.66 laps around Rockland Lake gets me to 11 miles, lol. I really paid attention to my pace/hr to make sure I was keeping it easy, and I was very pleased that for that final mile I was able to crank up the pace and make it the fastest mile of my run, gives me lots of hope for being able to run even further! I'm also hoping to finish my half marathon on 9/25 in under 2 1/2 hours and I think that's looking super doable!
