So ... the NSV is I'm on campus, preparing for classes. I AM A COLLEGE PROFESSOR AGAIN! AND, I feel great. I look like my old self. I'm just me again. No one knows me there. They just think I'm this thin person who's a professor. They have NO IDEA what I've been through, how sick I've been the last 10+ yrs, how sad I've been ... and how I go around trying to NOT cry tears of joy nearly constantly. I am so happy. I just walk around campus thinking I can't believe this is my life. I can't believe my body just works. And, classes start Monday!

That's the strangest thing about this journey we're all on. When we lose the weight, people we meet from that point on will have no idea unless we tell them what we've gone though or what we used to look like. There are going to be people out there who will have no idea you or I were ever overweight. Funny, isn't it? Congrats on your amazing success.

I was in the store yesterday and thought I'd try on some jeans for fun - not sure what size I am now, but I figured maybe a 16 would do up so I took a few pairs to the changing room.

All of them fit easily, to my surprise, although there were varying degrees of muffin-top, but when I picked up the last pair to try I realised they were labelled as a "skinny" style. I was a bit disappointed, thinking there was no way they'd fit over my thighs, but tried anyway. They fit, and were not tight in the legs at all. I nearly cried.

For as long as I can remember, I've bought boot-cut styles hoping that the flare would balance out my hips. I've noticed lately that all the pairs I own look kind of baggy in the thigh and wondered if I should try a straighter style, but I never ever thought "skinny" jeans would fit me! (When I told hubby, the dear tactful fellow helpfully said "not that skinny then!", but I don't care. It made me feel good to get them on!

) I didn't actually buy them because I'm not paying $30+ for something that will be loose in a couple of months, but it was a good experience!

Yeah -- It's bizarre in a way to be so preoccupied with something and have it not be an issue any more. Well, in my case just a small issue now as I work to lose 15ish more lbs. Overweight was my identity, gave a particular kind of life, relationships, how I related to me, how others related to me, etc. It's so strange to have that go away. And in my case it feels like it went away all of a sudden. I noticed today and yesterday that when I got off the train and walked home that the people behind me never passed me. I used to get passed all the time. Are they all slow? Did I get faster? I don't feel faster ... For two blocks I was trying to get out of the way and was waiting to be passed. Then I realized I'm just normal now. I have experiences like this constantly now. Everytime I'm out of my house and around other people, something happens that nearly stops me in my tracks. Life is so amazingly different.

Forgive me as I really in no way believe I am anything special, however my NSV today was that I had a guy checking me out in the supermarket and it was very obvious, so obvious that my partner gave him one of those looks

whether it's right or wrong people do judge us visually in the beginning. Unfortunately we all prejudge and get pre notions of what a person is like based on our initial interaction which is visual.

I've made a new friend at the beach and when I tell her how much weight I've lost she goes no way. When I told her my story and the background she was in total shock. I've also noticed that a lot of women smile at me differently and it's a big shock to me. I think we're the last to realize the changes that we've gone through and the way we look.

I've been getting very discouraged because I felt like a shoulder injury has been keeping me from progressing on many of my goals. (Lifting, increasing flexibility on backbends) SO I've been working on flexibility in my hamstrings & I've been having trouble with my right one. It just always feels so locked up.

Well today I was able to do a standing bow & arrow stretch (minus the arm through) on BOTH sides! Woohoo! Standing leg was pretty bent, but for my first try I was really excited & proud. It was a victory that I REALLY needed. An injured shoulder & scale that's not playing nice have been getting me down.

I did a chisel class today after a several weeks absence and was able to keep up. I have been riding my bike every day and plan to start back into the wellness center as fall/winter approaches and I can't get on the bike as often although plan to ride as long into the fall as possible in Iowa weather.

Today one of my coworker friends stopped me as I was leaving for lunch and said, "you look smaller. Are you shrinking?" And I laughed and said yes, I've lost 21 pounds. And she's like "OMG, I thought you'd lost weight but I was imagining it! You look amazing!" She's the first person who's noticed without me pointing it out.

Yesterday I was able to walk straight down the aisles of 3 different air planes. No more doing the sideways crab walk to not hit the seats on both sides.

My pants fit better and I have more energy than 3 weeks ago!! I also am reminding myself that the weight will take time to come off and in almost 3 weeks I've lost 5 pounds so that's good!

My NSV - Usually when I sweep and mop the floor in our big construction shops, I end up super sweaty and out of breath. I can only do one at a time. Today, I did both and wore a sweater the whole time. Not a drop of sweat and no shortness of breath.
