Janetr Sorry that pesky rash is back. I am curious as to how your doctor made a diagnosis of fungal infection...did she do a scraping to confirm the diagnosis? What a pain for you. I have seen a similar rash called erythema multiforme in people who have had recent or recurring herpes infections, other viral infections, and drug reactions. Hope you get it all straightened out, I am sure it is MADDENING!

Katla :) I rode Western for many many years and owned horses. It was expensive, time consuming, at times anxiety provoking, and a big responsibility. On the other hand, it was so very rewarding, therapeutic, heartwarming, joyful, and a source of a wonderful rhythmic solitude. My last horse was a brown (yes, "brown" was the color listed on his papers) quarterhorse named Buddy Knapp. He was 16 hands and had my heart. The only advice I have for you is to follow your intuition. I personally would not own a horse now. I would lease or barter if I wanted to ride. I just wouldn't want the responsibility and worry at this stage in my life. On the other hand, I wouldn't own a boat now either, for the same reasons. You are cut out of different cloth than I am, and you have a good brain you can trust. Your husband sounds like such a sweetheart.

@froggysfriend DH is dear or darn or damn husband. DSIL dear sister in law or son in law. DOS dear oldest son. DnL daughter in law, etc. It is very confusing and I don't use the shorthand but it is commonly used on forums.

NYKaren Kudos for knocking off the most onerous chore first. That's a great way to do it...just get the hardest thing over with and out of the way. I love it!

Charleen LOL!! My mom warned us not to talk to her until she had her first cup of coffee in the morning. I was a morning person. I almost drove her insane. Chatty Cathy in the mornings. She was a saint. She loved me beyond reason but I was nearly intolerable in the mornings. I was out talking to my rabbit, listening to the mourning doves, playing with my dolls, and impatiently waiting for the rest of the world to wake up for most of my youth. I kind of got over it once I was in high school because I would stay up late studying.

Peach Carol Lovely! Gold and orange! Sounds like a harvest centerpiece. :) We had an orange/gold/brown shag carpet when I was a teenager. It was very stylish in the day.

  • Barbiecat – I like that commercial, too … it is so cute! I 'think' I might owe you a 'thank you'. I'm sorry about how things turned out; but, happy 'it' was taken down; 'it' should have never been posted. I'm sorry it turned out that way. Did not see it; but, heard about it. Sorry she felt that way, but, I am sad that she felt like she had to do this before getting off. I would have hated to be asked to get off here. I turned 65 this year and with the 43lbs I have lost so far, I feel so much better; did not realize that carrying that extra poundage was what was making me miserable. Can’t pick up a 40lb bag of potting soil now. But for some reason, this one bothered me a lot. Might have been that DH will turn 75 this year, and, I worry about him more.

Michele – Party was nice, food was very good; DDnL#1’s pasta salad was a big hit. Went over my CI; but, that is ok; I think I have stayed within my plan for most of the week.

MaryAnn – My DOGD and her BF are getting a chocolate lab puppy. There are 2 left in the litter; one is the ‘runt’ of the litter and they have decided to get it. They had gone to a shelter and found one dog that was part pit; but, landlord said he did not have that sort of insurance to cover a pit or mixed pit. Anyway, they were going to have to spend more than they could afford for him to be treated for a skin issue. So her step-mom found a friend with puppies, so I think the last time they were home, right after they were born, she picked the ‘runt’ of the litter because she was ‘so sweet’. I think they made a better choice to get a puppy to train their own way. I’m not sure how DOS’s lab will take to it, because she loves DOGD more than anybody in the family. When DOGD is getting ready to go back to college, she will jump in the right passenger seat and sit there until DOS grabs her by the collar and makes her get out. We've spent a small fortune on Cracker due to 4 different injuries to her left foot; now her toenails grow crooked; and the vet who saw her first time, we asked to be able to see him again. He said that it looked like we would need to keep her toenails cut or filed back a little close to the quick; he suggested a Drimble (sp?) sander to do this. DH has one of those.

Rori – We saw the traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall several years ago when it came to Albany. It is a miniature of the original and I can’t imagine what it would be like to see the original one; which I have heard is huge. The traveling one is pretty big. Did not see any names that sounded familiar, thankfully.

For those of you who enjoy museums – If the 'Chinese Warrior display' comes anywhere near you, it is definitely worth the trip to go see it. My B.F. and I drove to Birmingham, AL, from Albany, GA, and left early one morning to drive up there (about a 2- to 2 1/2 hour drive – or more) and spent all day going through it. I still have not found my soldier that I bought when we went there. But, we still have a few boxes that I still have not gone through. Hoping to find it and a ring that is missing, too. I think I am going to get my DDnL#1 to try to sell one of my kilns that I have not used online; but, will keep my small one. Whoever buys it will have to come get it. I won't be able to ship it, too large and heavy (unless they send the money to do so). I got the manual by going online to get it. I have picked it up - once. I’d also consider selling all, or some, of the large pieces of china that Mother never got around to painting. Maybe also the power paints that I still have; or keep them to paint the small Christmas ornaments. If I do that, I will have to make a copy of the manual.

Lisa – The first ‘new’ car we ever bought was a Mazda – we loved it and drove it for many years; but, when the local Mazda place (not where be bought it, because we had lived in Macon at the time) we just did not have anybody who could work on it very close by. So we traded it in for something else. I ‘think’ it was on my DH’s ‘mid-life crisis’, a Camaro with T-tops. It was nice until you wanted to take off the T-tops because they took up too much space in trunk. We traded it before (or shortly after) we moved back the Albany. By then, I was driving it because he had bought a year old GMC, which he has put on nearly 400,000 miles on it. Still running nicely; and he uses it in his business as a house painting contractor; but some of the gauges are not working, so he has to sort of guess when he needs to buy gas. He knows about how far he can get on a full tank and how many miles he can drive it before running out of gas. Hopefully, DOS will take over the business shortly after the first of the year. He thinks he has lined up a worker that he trusts.

Karen in Virginia – Glad that your partner is feeling better; sounds like she has a good nurse. ‘Cute pictures of your dogs’. We have a Jack Rat; who is such a spoiled rotten stinky girl. Face of a JRT; and legs of a Rat Terrier.

Someday I am going to post pictures of her on this site; but, will have to learn how to do it. Anybody out there can tell me how to do it?

I love the purple stove. It is beautiful and strange looking at the same time. Looks like it could be a real ‘pop’ if the other appliance are stainless steel. Not sure I would like all of them the same color, unless they are free-standing and could be moved if the next buyer did not like them. In one of our houses - The last one before this one, we had green and blue bathroom fixtures. We took down the existing wallpaper in both bathrooms, which was hideous; and eventually found paper for each that had just a little line of the color (a very narrow line) and made it look like we had meant to use those colors. Brought it up to date. In one house we lived in, our previous house before that one, we had very strange color of tile – one, downstairs in MBR, very small we found a dark green paper with the sea foam green flowers. The one upstairs was the hardest to find, because it was a pinkish beige. If you picked one color, it made the tiles look too much like the other and did not match the wallpaper. We finally found one that had both colors and silver in it. It really looked great with it. Those were the only ones we have papered; but, I see that wallpaper is coming back in style. There are so many things I would like to change about this house, our retirement home; but, $$$ is an issue at this moment.

Today we are going into town to see if we can find a cabinet to put beside our vanity so we will have a lot more storage. If I had my choice, I’d take out the tub, which is hard to get into and out of it. It is short; with about a foot at both ends with the same tiles used on the backsplash, and turn it into a shower without the frame; and just not have a tub; maybe change the place where the existing shower is with another vanity with a large counter. I’d like to change the kitchen counter tops with anything other than what is now there.

Trying to talk DH into painting the cabinets; top ones a Velvet White; and the lower ones a darker color. And add a tiled backsplash. If I had my choice, I would replace my appliances with stainless steel; but, if I could not replace all; I definitely would change the porcelain sink … it always stays stained; and is chipped in a couple of spots. It is hard to keep white. So I pour a little Soft Scrub in it and lay down a couple of dryer towels in each side; it really makes it clean. I need to do that with my shower stall. But, usually I just pour bleach in it. Maybe the paint, time backsplash, or wallpaper she uses will make it look as if it was meant to have that color. We also had some wallpaper that had vegetables on it; and painted the cabinets a really pretty green that was in the wallpaper and put white knobs on the cabinets and drawers. It was a small room, with an ‘eat-in’ space. The vegetables were life-sized, on a white background. I would have chosen the same wallpaper in our last house; but, they had discontinued the pattern. Boo! The second stove is exactly the color we painted the cabinet doors in the house that had the vegetable wallpaper. Beautiful refrigerators; my Mother had the first one, the blue one; and her kitchen was the same color. It was ‘free-standing’.

I had to have my right rotator cuff repaired twice; first from a fall after a make-shift ladder did not work for me, I stepped off one of the pieces and missed the short stool and fell. Nobody was home, the person building my studio had left to buy some materials, and I had to call a friend, so I ended up crawling the length of the house to get to a phone I could pull down of the side table. I called her and said, “Help, I have fallen and can’t get up!” She came over and the EMT’s came and put me in my bed. Called the Orthopedist and told him what had happened; he ended up not being my choice of MDs to do the surgery; but, he was the first one I could get in to see me. Second one after a bad seizure, which made me have another ‘driving restriction’ that will be lifted on November, 15th provided I don’t have another one. I can hardly wait!

KJLaMore – I have found that I need to do a better job at proof-reading my posts for typos and sometimes add or subtract words to make them understandable. I can’t imagine purple appliances. Don’t think I have ever seen that color before.

Heather – Thankfully I still have some grape juice that I cooked for jelly; because the deer have discovered our Muscatine and Scuppernong vines and have striped them clean for the past two years while they are still not ripe. DH is planning on building some type of fence around them before next season. I just need to get some pint or ½ pint jars so they will make good gifts to give away. I want to try another batch of hot pepper jelly, and this time add some water to make it like jelly and not a spread. It is still good to put on cream cheese on bagels.

Peach1948 - We had gold appliances in the 2nd house we lived in (we’ve lived in 6 houses during our 44 years together). All but two were different; those 2 were ranch style (one a split level), this house is like a hunting cabin and I love it, except for the small closets that were put in after it had been studded up. DH did not want any steps in the house. Builder asked if we had other storage arrangements, so we had to add the closets that both took away several feet in both bedrooms. Measured the space in the 2nd bedroom, to make a place in the MBR; but, the space I wanted to put it is too small by one inch. We ended up moving the ceiling fan over in the MBR so that it would be centered over the foot of the bed. Now the only room I can play ‘musical furniture’ is the den area. I miss being able to change things up. DYGD is going to the mountains with a classmate for a few days. She has never done well going away from home (we don’t have a problem with her when we have gone to the beach; but, she has her 2 older sisters with her); so the family invited her over to spend the night so they could see how she does. She actually ended up spending two nights. DOS and DDnL#1 were ‘surprised’. The mother of the girl she is going with; took a picture of them making a cake, with her supervision. She’s never done anything like that and looked like she was having a great time.

Janetr7476 – My MD Rx’d a lotion for me that makes itching go away, for me. It is Rx only; the name of it is Ammonium Lactate Lotion (fragrance free). It is the generic of AMLACTIN 12% LOOT PERR. Maybe you can ask your MD if this might work for you with the itching.

I think I need to go back to before my last posting; obviously, I am missing some of the posts that were posted about the same time.

Hi, we are at the hotel and about to go out to dinner.

Just wanted to pop on to issue a bit of info to KAREN VA about my book. It is definitely a "literary" novel in that it could shock some people. It is a product of its time, the early 80s. Not for those of a sensitive disposition. :)

KJ - My main literary production was children's books and if you look for my Author's Page on Amazon you will be able to see them all. Most are remaindered as it was a while ago, but still purchasable through second hand sellers. I recommend Well I Never and The Trouble with Herbert, which is a US school textbook. My name is Heather Eyles.

The party went very well. More tomorrow!

I just went to an Urgent Care Center because we are on the road. She just looked at it and said it was a fungus, no testing. The fungus ointment Rx plus a six day steroid pack cleared it up right away. Yesterday I was down to one steroid. I have applied the ointment twice daily since seeing the doctor.

Allie, sometimes it is best to take a longer more scenic route. My parents would much rather take that kind of trip when they were alive.

Lenora, our favorite pet, Buddy was very particular where he would sit. If he had a chance or even a small chance that he would make a big chance out of it, he would escape and take a run of it and go to his 'girlfriends' house. Chocolate was a chocolate lab. Have no ideas why they named a female dog Chocolate but it was more than likely a child that named her. So when we noticed he was gone, we would get in the car and Chocolate's house was the first place we would go. We would call his name and after a bit Buddy would come out. He showed his dominance over us and took his sweet time and come out to the car. But we also knew he would not get in the car unless the driver would get out and he wold so proudly sit in the drivers seat with his front paws on the steering wheel. When he was done then he would move over to the passenger seat. Oh I am sure we could have trained him to get in the back seat but I think we enjoyed it as much as he did. Sure do miss that guy. He was a Sheltie and had marking just like Lassie the famous TV collie. He was very trainable and people would ask why we never entered him in any show. We liked him just as he was, a family pet. We had a request from the vet to stud him out but I filled out the AKC papers wrong. They sent them back to me with instructions on how to fix it but I am very well known for my procrastination and never did it. So he was no good for stud. But he served his purpose as a wonderful pet.

JanetR, sorry you have some trouble again. But the trip is beautiful.

Happy Sunday! I am working today and just did the new schedule. See how that goes over, a couple weeks ago I gave everyone a blank schedule and asked for their ideas. So far only one person returned it to me and she had done only the hours she wants to work and I said no you have to do the whole group. Never heard anymore.
Barbie--Thanks for sharing the picture of you knitting and riding the bike. I would more then likely fall off. You looked so relaxed.
    Margaret--Beautiful plants. Thanks for sharing.
Karen--That ad with the baby and dog makes me cry also. Hope your partner is dong better.
Cheri--I saw your message and sent the information. Looking forward to share our journey on fitbit.
Janetr--Sorry to hear about your rebreakout. Sure hope they can get it taken care of once and for all.
Well I am caught up and time to finish getting some things done before time to go home. Guess DH made plans for us to go with another couple out for supper. I would rather just go home, but have to work on not becoming hombound again. Have a great rest of the weekend.

Back from a long visit with MIL where we discussed our travels next year. I asked her to join us one our trip in February to Morocco and she quickly said yes!! She is 74 years young and a wonderful traveler, my DH was a little taken aback but secretly thrilled that I asked her. I think it will make the trip even more special.
I feel like I have my next long term reason/goal for staying fit --I want to feel healthy and strong and confident on this trip!!
DD just called and had her first big disappointment at school, didn't make the model U.N. and her roommate did!! I was sympathetic, yeah it's ok to feel disappointed, but you've gotta find out what you need to do to make it for the next round. She was feeling pretty sad, growing up is hard :(

Call me crazy but I love to see other people happy and succeeding .

    Good Afternoon Ladies,

Heather, I’m somewhat surprised that your difficult friend is just now reading your book. But thanks for the reminder because I may take it out and read it again. Enjoy your time in Brighton.

KarenVA, so glad to hear your patient is doing well. It’s always so nice to have less pain than expected. That picture of those stuffed animals in the chair is soooo cute!! LOL Do tell me about those collars. They are interesting. That is so cleaver to have the bumper for Molly. That is what I need for Pepper, because the little stinker can go through the fence in the back yard. We put plastic wire mesh on one side of the yard where the next door shih tzu kept inviting him to come visit. (later) Wow at the colored appliances. I mean, Wow.
Janetr, so sorry to hear about the new breakouts!!! What in the world can be causing that??? Please get better soon. (((Hugs))) itchy-rashes.gif

Katla, what brought on the idea your DH had about moving?

SCGirl, welcome. This is a great place for support and information and an occasional laugh. Please tell us about yourself to help us get to know you. It’s also helpful if you will sign each post with the name you want to be called and a location, general or specific.

Adayforchange, welcome to you as well. The post above goes for you, too. :)  Come often.

Pip, glad you didn’t have a wreck. It’s a jungle out there!

Allie, I can’t believe you come home tired from a trip and have to cook for Tom then go grocery shopping. All I can say is, you are a better woman than I am!!!

VickiNE, I did the same thing years ago when I was doing the schedule and it never suited anyone. LOL

NYKaren, that’s nice to include your DMIL on your trip. We took mine on a few vacations and always loved having her. Sad for your DD but disappointment is part of life even though we’d like our kids to never have any.

pretty-pink-welcome-smiley-emoticon.gifto any Newbies that I missed. Come often and join in the chat. This thing works!! Please sign your post with what you want to be called. It makes it easier for us to respond to you. Also a location is great, be it specific or general. We are happy to have you join us.

I just got back from the gym a little while ago. I wasn’t very high energy but made it through my workout. When I went to the desk to sign up for the hydro massage, the guy at the desk said, “How are you?”. I replied, “Good but lazy and tired.” He immediately said “well at least you are here”. That totally brightened my day. I’ve definitely had better workouts but like he said, at least I went. Yeah, Me! hand-clap-smiley-emoticon.gif Time to go start dinner.
Sending love and good thoughts to all of you and I hope you all have a Happy and Healthy Day! rainbow-smiley-emoticon.gif

    Hellooo my ladies!!

So yesterday we had our Fall Rally at the Liberty Theater in Astoria...beautiful place, and felt really privileged to be there! We clapped for this and that, and had a grand time.
Today I am oven-drying halved strawberries. They look good so far. I rec'd a big bag of spinach about the size of a pillow, and so I am making the strawberries for many spinach salads! My kitchen smells sweet now.

Nothing else new in my part of the world. Just getting in our routine of living. ((((hugs to all of you)))) keep doing what you do best....just being YOU!

Someday I am going to post pictures of her on this site; but, will have to learn how to do it. Anybody out there can tell me how to do it?

    Lenora

:)Lenora, posting pictures here is simple if you already have a library of pictures saved on your computer...and if you are posting from a computer, not your phone....look at the icons at the top and there is one that looks like a piece of paper with the right top corner folded over....click on the down arrow next to it and it will say "choose files", click on that and then browse through the folders on your computer until you find the picture you want, click on the picture, then click on "open" on the bottom of the box and you'll be able to upload the picture....it might take some experimenting but don't give up.
