Double shifts and working out of town at the moment so the only bike time I get is at night on the stationary bike in my workshop sometimes... Keeping at it when I CAN; next chances to get out on the roads are mid Oct though. Thinking of investing in a better spin bike as the current one is at a funny angle for my back.

@sijomial Beautiful bike! The white forks look really good. Love the new name

    @_nikkiwolf_

    Thank you.
Did think of repainting the forks but I wanted the bike to be like me - wearing its scars with pride!

Ended up doing a shorter solo ride Friday after picking up race wheels Thursday (HED Jet 6+) to get used to how they felt on the flats before racing on them Sunday. With strong winds, I definitely felt how they both make you faster, and push you along (via sideways sailboat like pressure) which took some getting used to.

Brought the bike up to Augusta Saturday, and raced my IM 70.3 Sunday with a respectable 56.5 mile time trial (no drafting) at 22.2mph. The course was slightly long (due to a detour) but I raced it about 1.5mph faster than my last IM 70.3 despite and extra 600' of elevation on this course. Finished 11/260 for my age group and 40th out of 2600 amateur racers, so I'm good with the result, but recognize I'll need to be in the 23-24mph range to make it onto the podium and to the world championships. Regardless, it was a fun race with a great downriver swim, and a flat (but 90 degree hot) well supported scenic run.

    9/3 - 19 miles
    9/4 - 12 miles
    9/5 - 14 miles
    9/6 - 30 miles (expresso + baseball commute)
    9/7 - 28 miles (errands + baseball commute)
    9/8 - 100 miles (Pittsburgh - Rockwood on GAP trail @ 14mph)
    9/9 - 107 miles (Rockwood-Hancock on GAP/C&O trail @ 15.5mph)
    9/10 - 112 miles (Hancock-DC @ 14.5mph)
    9/14 - 20 miles
    9/15 - 5 miles (train station home)
9/18 - 19 miles (trainer sufferfest during Sunday night football)
    9/19 - 34 miles (w. intervals - testing new tires)
    9/21 - 33 miles (tri team ride)
    9/23 - 20 miles
    9/25 - 57 miles (IM Augusta 70.3 @ 22.2mph)

    Total: 601 miles
    Goal: 621 miles
    Remaining: 20 miles

Surprisingly, the only place the DOMS wasn't a problem was on the bike. Sitting down, trying to reach anything on the floor... ouch. But on the bike was fine.

9/28: 28 miles - ughhhhhhhh this month has sucked re: mileage. It's rained for basically the last week and a half. My fendered rain bike is out of commission and I'm not riding my road bike in the rain (don't want to crash it), so I'm taking the train if it's raining. Turned 35 yesterday and was going to ride 100 miles to celebrate but had to go to work instead :( I didn't even get to ride 35 miles because it was raiiiiinnggggg after work arghhhhhhh!!! I've got Friday off so fingers crossed I can get the century in then. I really wanted to hit 4000 miles this year (well really wanted to hit 5000 but that's not going to happen), so I really need to go all in for October before the weather starts to turn.

    Month to date: 158 miles
    Year to date: 2910 miles

    9/1 = 24.5
    9/2 = 13.3, 37.8 total
    9/5 = 18.8 on recumbent exercise bike, 56.6
    9/6 = 13.3 The Loop, 69.9
    9/7 = 16.2, 86.1
    9/8 = 12.0 recumbent, 98.1
    9/9 = 24.5, 122.6
    9/12 = 13.3 The Loop, 135.9
    9/13 = 21.5, 157.4
    9/15 = 13.3 The Loop, 170.7
    9/17 = 13.8 - Flume Trail - Mountain Biking, 184.5
    9/18 = 24.4 - TRT & Flume Trail - Mountain Biking, 208.9
    9/21 = 18.2, 227.1
    9/22 = 29.8, 256.9 - 250 Yay!
    9/24 = 24.8, 281.7
    9/26 = 12.0 on recumbent, 293.7
    9/27 = 13.3 The Loop, 307

Wow, I did over 300 miles and still a couple of days left. Special thanks to my wife for covering the kids for weekend rides and especially while I went to Tahoe to ride the Flume Trail! Mountain Bike Riding is more effort than road biking, especially at 7k feet of elevation.

If you ever get the chance, ride the Flume Trail. I am a very inexperienced mountain biker and I was able to ride it. I had to get off the bike and walk over some technical parts, and steep parts, but I never felt like I was going to crash. The view of the Lake is awesome.

Hi all, I am back on the bike after a 5 week break from injury. Under doctors order to take it easy, but 6months until my next race as the TT season is over here. I have managed to squeeze a couple of rides in this month.
So far my year has been as follows

    Jan 434 mi
    Feb 456 mi
Mar 305 mi (crash causing injury 1)
    Apr 210 mi
    May 550 mi
    June 98 mi
    July 298 mi
Aug 205 mi (injury back after pushing too hard in race)
    Sept 53mi

Hopefully October will be a but more successful for me. I have dropped my speed to about 16-17mph on evening rides to try and get the knee back to strength.
2610 mi so far I was aiming for 4500 this year, but my pesky knee has put pay to that, so my new target is 3000. I need to take it easy and build back up to Christmas. then I can start training for march. Unfortunately during this time off I have put on about 20lbs, so need to drop that too.

A cool front has come through here in Arkansas. The last couple of days have been very nice. I think fall is finally here. It has brought cooler temps and lower humidity, but it has also been windy the last few days. I not sure which I like better, the higher temps and humidity and no wind, or the lower temps and lower humidity and wind.

Hei hei! This is my first visit here, please excuse any faux pas.

Its practically October, and though I am not sure how many more weeks there are of riding, it would be swell to have that extra bit of motivation. Just got back from a 3,11 km ride. I won't justify the distance as its likely anyone who reads this thinks any time or distance spent on a bike is time/distance well spent. I couldn't agree more! I so want to ride longer distances but I get worn out after 3 km! Its not gotten easier in the three years or so that I've been riding: but I don't ride daily. In fact, this year has been an awful year for riding (for me) and the year is nearly over! Hopefully this community will encourage me to just go ahead and step out the door.

Additionally I would very much like some input on an issue I have with my bike. It doesn't seem to want to coast properly. I mean to say that it loses momentum quickly and will slow to a stop much earlier than desired. So much so that I wouldn't dare ride in a bicycle lane on the street. I think the handlebars are wonky and off balance as well. I have no idea if I can make adjustment to the coasting issue myself, or if I have to visit my excellent, and expensive, mechanic. Any input is most welcome!

Thank you so much for a biking blog that embraces bicyclists of all ability and enthusiasim levels!
