Finding it harder to lose and keep off now that I am in my 50's, but realize that my joints feel much better with less weight on them. Working to lose 80. Have lost 20 to date, but the days of dropping 30 or more pounds a month are long gone. Also ideas for keeping it off. My fitness goal to end the year is down a total of 40 pounds so I can fit into my leather jacket6

Welcome to all the new Cool Kids.
Now that I'm in the off season, I've returned to my trainer for strength work. We did all the basics: KB lunges and squats, renegade rows, iron abs, various planks, etcetera. Quite a reality check since I haven't done strength work in 5 months. The only part that didn't wipe me out was running the flights of stairs, lol.
It was also comforting to know that my trainer has retained her sense of humor. When I mentioned that the other Cool Kids always do great sounding workouts she went to the chalkboard and titled this mornings routine "The As* and Abs Miracle". That's probably why I'm having trouble sitting down right now.
Plan is for a bike ride tonight and a couple long runs this weekend.
Happy Friday.

Morning Cool Kids!
Any plans for the weekend?
I plan to finish painting my porch and work on my front flower bed. Also have a couple of high school games to go to. Now that the weather is cooler......I may sneak in some miles at the park.
Have a good one.
@aslanpw -Congratulations on loosing 20 pounds! Keep doing what you are doing. Obviously its working3 -
Remember the workout rut i was complaining about? totally non existent today! why?
I did Tapout XT2: Total Body! !!! There was no time for nagging and complaining. Had to hold on to every bit of energy to complete the workout. And the after the workouts endorphin rush was to die for! now that's what im talking about!4 -
AOS Newport done. In city getaway this weekend with my wife (sister coming over to mind the kids). Should rain the whole time...still sounds awesome. First getaway without kids in 3 years.5

Hey mighty cool ones! Welcome to the newbs!
Got to the gym today to take a class - supposed to be abs and stretching and was more cardio and some abs...but they are still working on their classes as this is the first week the gym's been open. Also did a couple of sets of strength training with the machines. Couple of my friends were there and we played on their jungle gym...they called it something more impressive like martial arts and cross fit area, but they had the horizontal ladder that my friend and I kept calling the monkey bars to their chagrin. She could still go all the way across...I've got some work to do since I could barely hang on. Be both watched in awe of the dude doing the battle ropes...some day...
Per the weekend...might go for a paddle tomorrow, and have a church function to go to tomorrow night...also going to turn a year older, so might have to treat myself to one of my favorite restaurants (trying to decide between Turkish or Thai). I really need to get out to my flowerbeds and finish some weeding, do a little bit more planting, and do some trimming of bushes and palms. Been cooler outside, so now is the time to get some of that done since Christmas decorating will be here before we know it.2 -
Running Scotia waterfront half marathon Sunday. Tomorrow is all- day pool (9-ball) tournament for our team to try for a spot in regional tournament in summer. I'll need to watch beer intake2

Aw thanks...tried to sort of sneak it in there - good to see folks actually read my tomes...BTW, decided to do Thai and take a sympathy card to the owners of my fave restaurant since they have a picture of the Thai king and queen in their foyer to their restaurant. I'm sure they are mourning the loss of the king.

Hi I am 40 and I'm new to mfp. I am on a journey to loose 80 lbs. I recently started a kickboxing fitness class and it's very hard but I don't want to give up. Looking for friends to talk to when times are tough. This is very different and difficult for me. I've never joined anything like this before but I figured I will never know if it will help me unless I try. Please feel free to add me because I need all the support I can get.3

Post office on my way to a full body workout class today. Deciding whether to ride my bike or new scooter.

@MrsWOW2016 - welcome! This is a kick butt group, always posting their inspiring workouts. There are also a lot of fun challenge threads to join in that category of the message boards. Most are very friendly and encouraging, and I find they keep me accountable.
Also, for anyone interested, last I heard there were still a couple of spots left in the Amazing Race Fall Challenge. http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/116418-amazing-race-fall-fun If they are already full, they will start a wait list, and anticipate being able to slide people onto teams as others fall out. I've never done it, but it sounds like a fun way to be accountable to a team for your weekly activity, if you are into that kind of thing.
@gojaqs - depends on how far you have to go. I've got a similar scooter - serious workout for legs and glutes (have no idea how we did so much as kids). I need to get mine out again. But honestly, I can't go very far on mine...maybe a mile or two at most before being exhausted...so if it is farther, I'd be leaning toward the bike. However, for the fun factor, I'd lean toward the scooter. I really wish I could bike more around my town, but it's too heavy with clue-free auto traffic and virtually zero bike lanes in my part of town (though my city apparently thinks painting a picture of a bike in the middle of a busy car lane will transform it into a bike friendly road - epic fail).1 -
Hi! I'm 59...is the group only for 40-somethings? Or can I be an 'elder'?
I made a vow a year ago to be in as good shape at 60 as I was at 30. At 30, I was 185 lbs., and went to a Nautilus gym virtually every other day, religiously, alternating upper and lower body, M-W-F-Su-Tu-Th-Sa, etc. I was in phenomenal shape.
I blinked, and I was in my late fifties and swinging up and down around the 300 lb. mark (heaviest weight was 323 in 2010...)
I began MFP at 298 in February '16 and have lost just over 30 pounds. I've been stalled in the low 260s for about a month. I know exercise is the key.
Meanwhile, over the last 1.5 months, I've successfully quit smoking; today is my third totally smoke-free day. I used a combination of Chantix and a device called a QuitKey. Done!! And no weird dreams or suicidal thoughts! The only side effect was vivid dream recall, which I thought was kinda cool...
So now I am looking to start exercising. It's been a long time. My plan is to start walking daily, including tricks like parking at the far side of the lot, stairs instead of elevators, besides a formal 'walk'. Add in some sessions of stretching that my chiropractor gave me. Start doing some body-weight exercises, and move toward weights. My chiropractor has advised me to go slowly due to some lower back issues, but the long-range prognosis is good. Strengthening my core and dropping pounds will solve most if not all of the issue.
So yeah, I'd like to join the 'group'...is there an actual MFP Group, or is this thread the 'group'?
My profile and diary are open to all, by the way...
Thanks!!6 -

@b3achy Fun factor today, definitely.
You might have just motivated me to try my scooter when going to my gym. It's only 2.25 miles, but too many busy streets to bike, but a bit far to walk...maybe a walk, scoot combo might be just what I need to get some extra mileage in on the days I'm lifting2 -
Hello all. I am a 40 year old divorced, mother of 3 and have noticed that it is REALLY hard to lose weight. I'm a stress eater and have gone up and down in my weight over the years. This time around, I can't seem to lose the weight. Even the low carb diet has stalled on me.
I am working out on the treadmill and doing Turbo Jam for exercise. My calories were at a goal of 1270 but with the increased workouts, I stopped losing and started building muscle (I guess). Today I changed my activity to more active and that has given me more calories to work with. Hopefully with adding a few more calories my body will decide to shed. Does that make sense?

I wasn't sure if you were celebrating or mourning. But looks like you found a way to do both.l
At a certain age I think you just end up grateful to be able to have another birthday.2 -

First time posting...just joined the "club" in the summer. It does make sense...if your body thinks it is starving, it stops burning as much....1270 is pretty low.
My doctor warned me that the first 20-30 pounds might (key word is might)
come off relatively easy but I'd probably hit a plateau at some point (haven't yet but haven't hit 20 lost, either). Just focus on maintaining the positive habits. You may need to boost the exercise (carry small weights when you walk or add ankle weights?) to kick loss back into gear.0 -
So...my goal is to be under 200 by the new year...and ulitimately, to be at or below what I weighed when I got hitched 16 years ago...160.
I'd like to be between 140-150 but even 160 would make me happy. My 'health coach' recommended MFP and I agreed to try it...2 months and counting, 14 pounds down!4 -

@vikinglander. I snuck in at 58 when no one was looking, so I think you're ok to join the club.
Well my "off season" has come to an abrupt halt. I hired a tri coach to help me get faster in next season's races and she has already begun to map out my race and training calendar for 2017. And she wasted no time in throwing down the gauntlet by having me register for a marathon in March (my first) as the final "training session" of a 16 week winter run focused training block. This will be followed by a bike heavy training block leading to a Half Iron "training race" in early June. Swimming work will be done in parallel with the run and bike training.
I'm excited about having a coach to help me and a bit nervous over the goals she has set, so I guess that's just about the right level of discomfort.
Did a fairly long run yesterday and an easy run today in beautiful fall weather. Tomorrow is a rest day and my legs are happy about that.5 -
