Good morning ladies!
Been watching Jack Hannah's Animal Adventures on TV. They are highlighting the Mountain Gorillas somewhere (didn't catch where exactly) in Africa. I love shows like this, soooo educational and I love animals of all kinds. I love educational TV too! Since I haven't been able to afford cable I really miss the Discovery line of channels (Discovery channel, the Learning channel, the History channel, etc.) And other channels like Animal Planet and National Geographic. Now I'm watching Outback Adventures with Tim Faulkner. I love Australia and would love to visit there one day and meet some Aborigines! I want to touch a Kangaroo!
Barbie - thanks for being my cheerleader! You rock!
Michele - I will let you know if I don't find any recipes as you have me enticed now and I really want to try it so I will hit up Google today.
Karen - awesome pic! What a cool statue/fountain! So colorful!
OK, back to the rest of my show and an early lunch. Then off for my daily walk. I can't wait to start the Yoga class I signed up for! They work with people from all levels of physical abilities, and I'm not sure I will be able to pull off anything resembling "poses", but I'm willing to try dammit! I really need some more gentle non-impact exercise to add to my daily walks. I figure something is better than nothing no matter what little I get out of it, and maybe I will get a little more flexible. And it's free! So now I have no excuses, lol!

Sherry- I watch the Litton's Weekend Adventure group of shows on ABC, Saturday mornings. I record them while I am off running errands. I grew up watching Nat. Geo and Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom. Love Jack Hannah, Ocean Adventure with Jeff Corwin (my DD's fave), and Rock the Park. I replay the best shows for my daycare kids. Jack Hannah and Jeff Corwin seem to be their favorites.
Did anyone see the young lady from Connecticut that is finishing a journey around the world visiting every country? She only has 15 more countries to go. It cost her a pretty penny ($200,000). But can you imagine such a trip?! She said the best thing that she got from this journey was the kindness that she was met with in each and every country! So inspirational!2 -
Oh, and Barbie - I am so proud of you for being so persistent with your line dancing! And thanks for reading my long posts *she says sheepishly*!
I just want to take this moment in time to tell all of you ladies that I am grateful for you all. I appreciate all the strength you show in dealing with your daily struggles and the compassion and support you all show for each other. Thank you for just being you, and thank you for welcoming me here and allowing me to be a part of your group. It means a lot to me! (OK, enough mushyness!!!)

Hello,
My name is Katy. While I've been using the MFP site and app forever I haven't been a part of the community before. So today I decided to have a look and see if I can fall in somewhere in order to get myself back on track and accountable! Accountable is pretty big for me. I tend to talk myself out of exercising. Smirk
I guess I'll say a couple things about who I am.... I have been a mostly stay at home wife and parent for 35 years marriage. I've done a bunch of things in that time including teaching driver education, home health care, home daycare and my real happiness, teaching culinary arts. The kids are in their twenties now and the husband works in computer security at a local hospital. I was born and raised in New Mexico.
For anyone asking "where?" It's the state between Texas and Arizona. There is a mag that has an article named "One of Our 50 is Missing!"5 -
Hi Gals,
Purl – great way to get re-focused
Sherry – this move has agreed with you, all your posts have been so upbeat, I am trying to hook myself to your coattails, and find the up beat here too!
Heather - you are motivating me to give a look at my garage, to declutter it as well. I was thinking, does a goal help with writing? Because if it did, could you try to get the memoir or a dusted off novel out there for sale and use the money for the kitchen re-do?
Barbara – thanks I’ll be doing some research!
NY Karen – that guy is a trip!
Katy- welcome - I have friends in Belen, NM

KJ - can I call you that? Awesome that you watch those! I almost forgot about Mutual of Omaha when I was a kid! I loved that show! That is so cool that you share these shows with your daycare kids! You rock! "Yay for educational TV!"

Good afternoon ladies!
It's a lovely fall afternoon here in central Virginia. DH and I spent a few hours in the yard cleaning up for the winter. I'm finally able to do whatever I need to do in the garden! It's been years...
Thanks to all for your comments on my pictures of Ecuador and my DGS. I agree with you, he's adorable. And a happy baby! Plus, he eats almost everything, including spicy chile.
Kim, I'm so glad you're feeling a little better. This past week was hard on so many people. I loved Margaret's comment about Jesse Ventura!
And to others of you who had a tough week: I hope you're feeling better. I had a rough time for a couple of days, now I'm in wait and see mode.
Margaret, You'd think that even people who were used to living in the country would have some common sense about using guns in an urban or suburban neighborhood. Sheeesh. I'm glad no one was hurt.
Re, 'Gratz on the new strength training regime! As you may know, I love strength training!! I can now do military presses with a 20 pound kettle bell! I think my shoulders are stronger than they've ever been. And today I did one-handed swings with my 25 pounder. I like them because they work my core more.
NYKaren, that's quite a fountain! I hope your continuing to have a wonderful time.
Pearl, Hang in there. We all have tough patches.
Pip, I think everyone else has said all the things I thought when I read your post. Finishing the race together was a major accomplishment, and your bond with Kirby is amazing. I'm sorry that things are hard with your mom. I empathize--when I visited my mom I found that she has not been walking as she should, so she's weak and tires easily. She has an adopted family there (a couple my age, plus their kids--my mother is like their grandmother), and the couple have been worried about her. I'm so grateful that she has people who love her there. It's so hard to know what's going on from such a distance.
Mary and Lenora, love the photos of your dogs! We're going to wait a bit before getting another. We have one--Carmen--a wonderful pit bull mix that we got from the shelter. Very affectionate and amazingly good with other dogs--she teaches them to play if they don't know how, she doesn't let them get aggressive with her, and if a dog is afraid of her she can calm it down. Her dog manners are extraordinary.
We usually have two so they can keep each other company. Next one we get is going to be a puppy. In the past 11 years we've lost 4 dogs: a 9 year old golden who got cancer (the best dog in the world); a 15 year old golden who had a long life; an 8 year old goldendoodle who got cancer (goldens get cancer); and Joe, the one that died a little over a week ago. He was 12. Adopting adult dogs (3 of the 4 we've lost) means you have them for less time, and it's so hard when you lose them.
Mary, Take care of your pain and feel better soon!
(((Hugs))) and love to all--Cheri, Karen in Virginia, Allie, Sherry, Michelle, Janet, Kelly, DJ, Glo, Marcelyn, Lisa, Heather, Katie, and all others!

Kim - this move has done a lot for me (let's just say there were a lot of bad memories in the house I was in) and I try to look for the good in people and in life itself inspite of all the mean, nasty, abusive people that have been in my past (that's all I will say about my past for now). So I am looking to what I have left of the future and doing my best to move on optimistically. Because of a traumatic brain injury when I was 3, I can tend to have difficulties speaking (my mouth has a hard time spitting out intelligible sentences), but my brain and fingers seem to have a good connection and it is easier to express myself by "typing" or "writing", so my posts tend to really show my moods, expressions, etc.

well it has been a long long day here...have over 13,000 steps , thats amazing.. lots and lots of leaf raking..my dad called at 8:00 this morning and asked me to bring him over to Rocky Hill.. he went to his al anon meeting last night and couldn't find his keys when he left thank goodness someone was there to bring him home.. so I brought him over , looked for keys , couldnt find them..but he had my sons set of keys... im guessing he got home ok.. Tom had a fit... because he had plans for me.. and for my car.. he went and fed his dad and went to the dump and I was home within 45 minutes...
His attitude is getting worse and worse.. and do you know when someone just cant stand you,but has no choice but to deal with you anyway.. that is where he is.. he has nothing nice to say..except to the dogs of course.. and I told him flat out.. listen if we plan on spending the next 20 + yrs together you better get a freaking grip because there is no damn way I am gonna live like this and be treated like this.. so you either get your bleep together or your income is gonna shrink by a whole heck of alot!!

Margaret: How terrifying. Shaking my head at how senseless some people can be.
Becca: Egads! Do I need to send you a smaller headshot? Didn't realize I was 4 quarters. I recall I ordered the print from Walgreen's photo department. Super easy and cheap.
Pip: As always, you and Kirby inspire us on so many levels. Certainly loved the story of your unified efforts to finish the race. I also have to tell you that only in my fantasies have I ever done a 12 minute mile. So, although that's on the slow end for you, I'd be thrilled with that time.
Michele: Hope those fires aren't close to you.
Mr. Mars, the four-legged alarm, got me up at 3:00 AM. Ugh. Didn't get back to sleep and really felt it by early this afternoon. To make matters worse, instead of my early morning exercise, I baked my DH a batch of oatmeal cookies to help commemorate Veteran's Day. He was surprised and delighted because I never bake. Big mistake. Let's just say I ended up logging an unusual breakfast. Froze the leftovers and made it through the rest of day with more sensible choices.
Glad this week is over. I am physically and emotionally drained. Here's to a great weekend for us all.
Stay well, friends. We can do this.

Sherry – based on your writing, I would never guess there were any issues at all!!!
Allie – You go girl!!!
well I was looking at my goals, I have to get cracking - I need to write a letter, address 60 cards, and read a book!!!!

Pip: I think you gave Kirby awesome support and that you're right about many things. Your comment about training differently this year was right on target. Maybe he'll want to do it again next year and train more as he's done in the past. Maybe he'll want to do something else and drop this from the list. I love the photos!
Gloria: There was evidently an anti-Trump protest in Portland. They're calling that a riot, too. I haven't been watching news so I don't know details. :ohwell:
Kim: It is wonderful that your Garden Club friends value you so much. :flowerforyou:
Sherry in Portland: You seem to have found an excellent counselor with lots to offer. I can't help wondering how you'll find time for everything. I think that is a very nice problem to have. I love yoga. I hope you will too.
Margaret: I agree with Janetr. I hope the new neighbor behaves responsibly from now on. If not, call the police. That should solve the problem. I hope it doesn't come to that. :flowerforyou:
Purl: I also live in the PNW. We have very bright lights all over our house, and always try to find those that are solar temperature. We have them very close to where we work at our desks. They help. So does physical activity and Vitamin D3. Yoga takes care of more than just my body this time of year. Riding my bike indoors is a big help, too. We have it set up on a trainer in the garage. It allows us to pedal like crazy against pressure and never leave home so it is weather proof. Brainstorm a list of possible things that will help and try as many of them as you can. Stick with the ones you enjoy enough to do regularly. (((HUGS)))
Heather: It is good to hear that you're writing again. I always wanted to be a writer, but it turns out that I'm an excellent reader. Story telling is not my best skill. I tend to start with enthusiasm and then my interest dribbles away and I don't finish. I admire what you are doing.
I went to a Fred Meyer store near me and bought a new pair of jammies to wear when we visit DSIL's house for Thanksgiving. My old jammies have outgrown me. The sleeves hang down below my fingers and the waists sag down on my hips. I went from XL to Medium. That is a non-scale victory (NSV) I'm proud of! I actually lost the weight more than a year ago. They were too big last winter, but still wearable. They aren't wearable any more. Evidently yoga and horseback riding are changing the shape of my body. I am surprised and pretty happy about it.

I was able to get out early enough to walk with my friends that I walked with before my surgery...when they were ready to go home I kept walking and walked well over an hour....in the afternoon, my walking friend came over and we walked together for well over an hour..during my rest times, I watched figure skating on TV and worked on my knitting....later Jake and I watched the Minions movie and I rode the exercise bike for 35 minutes....what a great day.3 -
Wow....just had a "run in" with the neighbor behind me. A teenage boy, approx 15-17 yo walked through my site and when I asked him politely to please not do that he says "F*** Y**, fat bi***! Then his "step-dad" (mother's boyfriend) comes flying out of their trailer yelling at me for disrespecting his family and starts throwing things around! I have only been in this park for 5 days and so far the lady that lives to my left has been shooting me nasty looks without even saying a word to me and now this! I am beginning to question my decision to move into this park and am nervous now about the "people" around me. I miss my old neighbors. Missy has been acting weird now since that guy blew up at me. I have dropped all the blinds on the windows and am loving on Missy a lot to try and calm her. I think I will bring her potty box back inside and keep her in for the night. I will have to talk to the manager on Monday when the office opens and see if she will let me change sites when another one comes open. I hope she will.

Hi all!
Spent the day in Houston at the son's apt. Put up curtains on his oversize sliding patio doors. Used 3M Command tape and hooks, PVC pipes and flat twin sheets from Walmart!
He just wanted coverage from the afternoon sun and a little privacy even though he is on the 7th floor and there is no building near by.
After we had lunch at Jason's Deli my husband developed a massive nose bleed. Out of nowhere and he never has them. It took quite a while to stop it. Made it back to the apartment. He held his head back a bit and I put a cold compress on. It finally stopped and we made it back home and all is good. Phew...
I'm tired. I think I'm having an arthritis flare as everything is achy at the moment. Early night for me with a couple of Aleve.

Hi Gals,
So I forgot to mention… with all the gardening that I do sometimes I get wind falls of produce, I eat some, share some, and then go to town canning it for gifts or to feed me in the winter and early spring before there is the selection that we have here late spring to fall… So today I made hot pepper jelly (8 jars), and 8 jars of this great green tomato relish, I have made the relish before but from a different recipe and it was good but this one is much better. And am baking – baked beans from home grown dried beans… There are a bunch of apples in the garage that some will become applesauce tomorrow… I also dried some tomatoes some to use just that way and then some I packed in jars with herbs and oil… great gifts.

Kim,
Canning is becoming a lost art! I'm planning to start my business again, after living in Southern Cal for a bit, and teach cooking and preserving. There are a lot of young people who are very interested. I like Placitas. We looked for homes there too, but I like having a few more trees and less wild horses. lol
