Having something sweet in the AM makes me want to keep eating and eating and eating. It's easier for me to stay in a calorie deficit when I eat more protein in relationship to carbs, and meet my fiber goal.
Are you still the 58 kg you were when you posted in August? And are you still in a country at war?
yes I am and my country is still at war I don't know when this will end0 -

I personally don't find cake very filling or nutritious for the amount of calories so I would not eat something like cake for breakfast every single day. It is up to you how you want to use your calories.
omg the first sentence is horrifying
Yes. You get fat from a surplus of calories no matter the source.
Eat however you want without going over your maintenance level calories.muffinsandcakes wrote: »You gain weight if you eat more calories than is needed to maintain your current weight. Those calories can be from cake, broccoli, oatmeal, chicken- any food or drink you consume that has calories.

am having it usually with milk, but may you give me other insights? (sweet please :P)
Do you find cake and milk satisfying? How long does it fill you up? If you are hungry an hour later probably should consider other choices.muffinsandcakes wrote: »PaulaWallaDingDong wrote: »muffinsandcakes wrote: »PaulaWallaDingDong wrote: »It's not necessarily bad to have cake for breakfast. If it fits your goals and doesn't screw up the rest of your day putting you over your calorie goal, go for it. If not, don't.
Eta: wow, you guys are fast.
Hmmmm actually am craving more for brunch yea
Then the question is, is that affecting your goals?
my goal is to to lose much this year but I don't wanna be harsh on myself so...
There are other sweet type foods you could eat that may be lower calorie/higher nutrition like fresh fruit, dried fruit, oatmeal, cereals, yogurt, sweet potato, parsnips, beets, carrots, squash, peas, corn.
Generally, protein, fats and fiber leave people feeling satisfied so you might want to choose foods that have more of a combination of those things if you are feeling cravings.
thank you so much that was insightful0 -

Uhhh...I wouldn't say having it for breakfast is "good"...it's not a very solid way to start the day nutritionally...but whateves. It will only make you gain weight if you're in a surplus of energy...if you're in a deficit, you can't gain weight...'cuz math.

There's a pretty well-established tradition of having sweet baked goods for breakfast -- coffee cake, danishes, donuts, french toast, muffins, Pop Tarts. I mean, having straight-up cake for breakfast is unusual, but I don't know if I would call it "disgusting."
Of course, disgust is fairly subjective when it comes to food. People eat things like haggis and natto and brains.3 -

Cake for desert = win...cake for breakfast...I can't really wrap my head around that...I'd be hungry about 30 minutes later...and it provides very little nutritional value.
There's about a million different things you could have for breakfast that would provide solid nutrition...that said, I'm smelling a troll..

True, although if you order it iced, you will have to insist at least three times that you don't want sugar, you don't want a flavor, you don't want any kind of syrup -- then you have almost a 50% chance of getting it without added sweetener. I tend to hang out near the "cafe" counter after I order and try to catch the attention of the McBarista (I just made that up, so if McD's starts using it, I want a licensing fee ) and tell them not to put any syrup in it. There is a button on the cash register interface for no syrup, because I've gotten a manager to point it out to the person working the register, but they must not include that in the training, because hardly anybody seems to know about it.
ETA: on the upside, they are always willing to remake the drink when my iced coffee comes out sweetened. It's not about the calories; coffee with sugar tastes absolutely vile to me.
omggggg see? homemade is healthier?for heart issues :P
I can't tell with all the emojis if you are serious or joking. What heart issues would be impacted by drinking inadvertently sweetened iced coffee from McDonalds?
I think they mean because it would be less stress to make it yourself than jumping through hoops to get the iced coffee without sugar.
OP, cake for breakfast can be tasty. Personally, I prefer a slice of fruit pie if I'm going the dessert for breakfast route, but I've been known to have cake for breakfast if I've got some to spare.
I do have the issue of cake for breakfast == hungry for lunch earlier, but I just solve that by eating something satisfying for an early lunch.1 -

We had a tradition from being kids that on boxing day my mum wouldn't cook, and we could have whatever we wanted to eat if we got it ourselves... invariably it was chocolate for breakfast... still do it now... still get hungry half an hour later!!1 -

My wife's parents are from Britain and she prepares a "candy cane bread"...basically a big candy cane shaped filled donut thing for boxing day...It's about the only day I will do something like that as I really don't care for sweets early in the morning (and really not much of a sweet tooth to begin with)...but yeah, I'm starving and end up eating my omelette and whatnot anyway even though I've just had 800 calories worth of candy cane bread.0 -

Ehhh. Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't let someone's opinion of a disgusting vs tasty breakfast impact my choices. However, it *would* be a good idea to pair the cake with something more filling to avoid being hungry later on, as others have written. If it *REALLY* bothers you though, and/or you want to get in something sweet and still hit your macro goals, I recommend cake flavored protein bars. Oh Yeah! One's bar is the best one out there imo, but NitroTech, MusclePharm, and Robert Irvine's Fit Crunch lines sell popular birthday cake flavored bars too. FitJoy is supposed to release a birthday cake bar in the future.1 -

You take that back! Haggis is delicious! (For the record, I am not being serious. I'm Scottish, I like haggis, I know to most everyone else the very thought is stomach turning. Also, that was an accidental pun).
Also, yes to cake for breakfast. Perk of being an adult is eating whatever the hell you want when you want it! (Calories permitting of course, we are calorie counting).5 -
When i make a big cheesecake, i inevitably have it for

morning tea
after lunch
afternoon tea
Dessert

I've never had haggis, so I shouldn't say negative things about it. I like plenty of "disgusting" things myself -- I had kimchi the other day and my husband thought some food had spoiled in the kitchen. I never grew up having baked goods and sweets for breakfast...and that kind of stuff early in the morning is extremely unappealing...growing up it was generally oats during the week and bacon (or sausage), eggs, and potatoes on the weekends...sometimes the occasional waffle or pancake (but I don't like syrup)...hell, I think I may have had like four or five doughnuts in my entire life.
Admittedly I don't have much of a sweet tooth though and I'm also not much into baked goods except for sourdough toast with a slathering of butter...I mean really, my family and friends at Thanksgiving left all of their leftover deserts at my house...peach cobbler, apple pie, and pumpkin pie...of the three, the pumpkin is the only one I really like...I had a piece for desert on Friday while we watched Christmas movies and that was it...I dumped it all in the trash on Sunday when we were cleaning out the fridge.
That kind of stuff just does basically nothing for me...I'm not in the least tempted...and don't get me started on the crappy grocery store baked Christmas cookies and whatnot that will be flooding the office...no problem staying away from that stuff.0 -
