My cat is not overly lazy but she can be highly annoying. She loves to sit watching me get things ready and then wait until I get started to want outside. Then she meows at me all the way out the door, like I'm inconveniencing her.

It's like bathroom stalls or movie theatre or train seats - whhhhhhy would you choose the right-next-to-someone option if there are so many others available?
There's one old guy who, for the past few weeks, every Monday and Wednesday morning at 7:00 when I am half-finished my run, chooses the treadmill right next to mine (no matter which one it is, even though there are usually only one or two other people in the whole row) and proceeds to walk for fifteen minutes while glancing over at my screen constantly and absolutely reeking of sandalwood. It drives me bonkers but I don't want to stop running, wipe the machine down, and go to a different one when I'm in the zone. Grrrr.
okay, but like... how am i supposed to prove i'm better than you if i can't see how fast you're running?

D'uh. Because then someone would come onto MFP and say one of their biggest gym annoyances is the person on the treadmill who's blowing an airhorn and throwing flags around.21 -

Might make a nice change from the treadmill-dancers, and the ones on their speakerphones, though (or the guy who wears his Beats around his neck with the volume at 11...because the only thing worse than someone else's taste in music is someone else's taste in music playing just loudly enough to hear the top end blaring tinnily away through headphones.) Oh, and all the complaints about people who run too loud, lol.
Seriously, though, as someone who rides a train to/from work, nothing that happens at the gym can ever compare to the bizarre and annoying stuff I see on public transit, so I mostly just grin and bear it. Better someone being weird on the treadmill right next to me than trying to grab my butt or barfing on the floor in a crowded train....people are weird and the more of them you confine in a public space, the weirder they get.7 -

This is why I don't take the classes or go to the gym. I've tried, but the attitude I get from the more experienced people makes me feel inadequate and unwelcome. Oh, an instructor might be encouraging, but then I get grief from the other people in a class--because apparently I need to have personally trained with Bob Fosse to be in a beginner class (which is probably not your situation).
That and the people who have given me attitude or made audible comments because I'm not fit and thin already. I don't need that. I'll stick to walking outdoors and trying to do stuff at home.
I'm the biggest, least fit, least coordinated person in the classes I attend and have to do many modifications (I will manage a burpee one day), but I get nothing but respect from the others in the class and some of the long standing attendees seem strangely proud of the effort I put in and how much weight I've lost. I think you need to try a few other classes out to find a more welcoming crowd.
It's something I'm willing to consider. At the moment, I have a manageable routine. When the weather gets worse, I'll investigate my gym options.
But this is something I have experienced at several locations over the years and it tends to make me gun shy.0 -

Most people at the gym really are not like that, fortunately. You generally will not be judged except by a few select, um, special... yeah... special... people.

People judge people. Most keep it to themselves, but they still judge as this thread proves.

When you're trying to watch Outlander while walking on a treadmill, and your stoooopid Amazon kindle fire 3rd edition craps out during the video several times (or so you thought, it's a crappy tablet anyway).. you then proceed to tape your laptop to your treadmill and the video craps itself out there as well. You get annoyed and hop off the treadmill, then finally decide to watch the episode online...and then feel fine for the next hour while you enjoy the episode...Carlos_421 wrote: »

Well there is a difference between dropping a deadlift and setting it down heavy. If it slips that's one thing but people who just drop it are getting three reds and should learn to complete their lifts. I think a lot of people just drop them to get attention, frankly.

i have been on the treadmill when the staff decides to start using the hoover and clean round my treadmill. so off putting when i am trying hard not fall off

About the only thing that irritates me is when I head over to our company's gym and the weight room has weights scattered all about, plates loaded up on all the bars and the benches out in the middle. Regardless of how many people I've talked to about this and the signs put up about reracking the weights it still happens. So...takes me 10 mins out of my lunchtime lifting to get it straightened out.
But...they better watch out now because we're getting some camera's installed (camera's not because of that but because someone bent the locked cage holding the basketballs).1 -

I'm doubtful that anyone who has even considered the germ thing would be doing that.
My gym has single-use wipes available everywhere and I think that's pretty typical now. It's been a long time since I've been to a facility where they even have reusable cloths/spray bottles, much less require you to use your own towel...1 -

There's a difference between venting about rude behaviors (making a mess, not racking weights, etc.) and judging/shaming others for not being as coordinated/fast/strong/energetic/experienced as one perceives their own self to be.
So far only one poster in this thread stands out as being guilty of the latter.12 -
For everyone complaining about others that rest on the machines WTH!!
I've developed an appreciation for lifting weights for several months now and the stronger i get the heavier i lift the heavier i lift the more REST time i need in between sets. And yes while I am resting I will look at my phone, look around the gym and in general REST and take my time! Now if you need to use a piece of equipment ask to work in. I will gladly allow someone to work in with me. And as with others I will either ask to work in or do something else until i need a piece of equipment. Simple as that and definitely nothing to be annoyed about. Geeesh!
I agree with you, but I'm usually at the gym during slow hours and lots of equipment is available. A lot of times I use other equipment that's open between my main sets but "hog" just one piece of equipment. If it's busy and I notice someone looking, I'll invite them to work in or let them know how many sets I have left. I think that's fair. I know the usuals and that helps... I can guess if I'm on something they want and I let them know. Being polite and considerate usually works for me.0 -

That's not true. I've seen guys who run on them and sound like a herd of elephants with the "thump, thump, thump" that shakes water bottles all across the room and I've seen other guys, similar size, who run so light that you barely hear their feet hit the ground. That's on treadmills and the indoor running track. I don't know how they do it but they do. I know which ones will be getting the hip and knee replacements in their 50s though....2 -

My issue is when the treadmill itself is loud and squeaky, not the runner.
Though I remember now one woman Wahoo used to make sex noises when she was lifting weights. I know she was just working hard but it was really distracting!
