What nobody tells you about losing weight

I'm not hungry all the time, which seems to be a common theme, and I do eat at a pretty moderate calorie deficit. I just eat things that fill me up, I rarely get the munchies.
My overall mental health is better, and that's coming from someone who has had severe mental health issues their entire life. This time 2 years ago, I was very seriously contemplating ending my life. It hasn't changed ONLY because of my weight loss, I've remedied other stressors that were affecting me, but it has certainly caused a massive shift in my overall perception of life.
I noticed a big difference in my mental health too. it feels great to feel good! eating better helped enough that I could see clearly and was able to find ways to deal with stressors. I'm glad you have been so successful!!11 -

my glasses are too big too after 60 pounds and I don't need them anymore...weird right!! I think all the extra inulin due to insulin resistance was messing with my eyes!

So much this!
I actually had to go get them adjusted as they kept on falling off and they ran an eye test while I was there. My sight improved (diopter improved, corneal irregularity is still as bad as ever and reason why cheap glasses is never going to happen to me) and I now need new glasses...
No one mentioned how bloody expensive losing weight could be (even if you don't spend any money on the weightloss itself... thanks MFP ) Keeping myself in suitable work clothes and shoes (!?!?!? - lost a size there too) is bad enough... new glasses with my particularly *kittened*-up eyes is just painful and it's excluded from health insurance coverage around these parts (it's considered cosmetic...)
Not to mention I still have 20kg to go...13 -

- My shoes are more comfortable, it's easier to wear the heels I love. I haven't figured out if this is due to smaller feet, or less weight on my feet
- I still have "fat" days, and if I try on something on that doesn't fit yet (i.e. gives me a huge muffin top) I feel like haven't made any progress - regardless of all my successes (almost 50 lbs from my highest, 35 lbs since August)
- I don't fight with keeping my towel up in the gym - it just stays wrapped around my body (more towel, less body)
- Almost every time I run 5km, I still feel shock and awe that my body can do this running thing. And that I want to keep running, and every day I don't run, I'm waiting for the next day that I have the time to run.
- The amount of time I spend reading the forums. I love the stories and tips and community (even if i'm slow to join). Thanks to everyone who takes the time to post

I fit in plastic deck chairs and am not worried that I might break them and land flat on my...ahem.
People don't have to squeeze behind me anymore because I can actually scoot myself closer to the table.
I'm also feeling the need to be more active. My home office is upstairs and I no longer kick myself for forgetting something downstairs. I think I made 10-15 trips yesterday.
At the office I found myself walking faster around the building and enjoyed it!8 -
That you would regret not taking any pictures with your highest/starting weight.
I generally avoided taking pics back then and when I started my weight loss journey I wasn't sure if I could be able to go the distance so I didn't take any pics then either. Only after I lost 10kg (a bit more than 20 lbs) I decided I'll "risk" it. I haven't reached my goal yet but lost enough that I now I wish I had pics with my starting weight for comparison, no matter how much I would have hated them at that time.26 -

Agree! I had to find photos from others that happened to capture me without me knowing...4 -
One odd thing I have noticed is that people feel more open diet-shaming me now than they did when I was larger. 40lbs ago I could eat candy at my parents house and they didn't say anything. Now that I am tracking my calories and KNOW when I can have a treat and still lose weight- they say something like "We're going to have to stop buying candy if you keep eating it- we don't want to keep you from losing weight!"
Also- people give me diet advice like "You know you shouldn't be eating gluten" or "Organic is the way to go, you won't lose weight with all of those hormones in your meat- dairy- produce" I simply remind them that I'm not on a 'diet' I am just tracking calories in and calories out.
People REALLY want me to be more restricted. I don't know why the simplicity bothers people so much.46 -
That one day you will look down and wonder when your legs got so small.
That when life got stressful the only thing that has suffered with my weight loss is the social aspect of things on my fitness pal. I still log every day. I still have no problem watching what I eat. It's completely habit now. Weigh, log, eat. Still simple as ever.

Omg! This for days! If I hear one more "Paleo, organic gluten free, hemp only, fruitarian, master cleanse" lecture from people, I'm going to scream. At this point, I've lost over 100 pounds. I think I got a lock on the process. Whereas you(general you, not you OP) are not dieting, overweight and trying to tell me how I should proceed to succeed.
Maddening. I haven't developed a tactful way to tell these people to go stuff it. Then again, I'm not very tactful at the best of times.44 -

Well, now that I have lost enough weight, my bras are loose around the back. It's tricky using the 3rd row of eyes to hook them (instead of the 1st row) while reaching behind me, i can't close the darn thing. now I have to close it in front then rotate it around to the back & then slide my arms into the straps. Annoying, & yet cool.13 -

I can totally relate, my band size has remained the same (I really never had that much backfat, or underarm fat, I carry my weight in my gut, butt and thighs) but my cup size has gone down. Now I have bras where the cup size is too big and no one ever told me that I would have to exercise my chest area or deal with the boob sag.8 -

I can so relate to this. I lost both my parents this year (I was especially close to my Dad and his death was unexpected.) After several months of slugging around & comforting myself w/food, I wanted a positive distraction. Started running on my treadmill and it has helped me so much -- both mentally & physically. I'm not athletic and have always despised running, but it's different now. I can hear my Dad in my head, too, telling me how great I'm doing and to keep going.36 -

Yes! I love my butt! And I'm thrilled with my quads ... but my stomach? Not so much. I mean it's way better than it used to be, but gosh can it just be flat already? After two big babies, I think I'm just going to have the abdominal muscles sewed back together and get rid of the mommy pooch so my stomach will go with the rest of my body.

I sometimes feel guilty about all the time I spend working out.
Yeah, my husband will "unconsciously" sabotage me and give me grief for working out instead of taking care of the kids. I just keep remembering, "You can't pour from an empty cup," which means that I can be a better mommy and wife if I'm healthy and fit. Before losing weight, I would use my kids as an excuse to skip the gym.31 -

This was me too, until the girls started falling out.7 -
I'm down 87 pounds, 13 more to go until my goal weight. I'm mostly happy with my fitness level and appearance, and I'm healthy by all of my doctor's standards. I enjoy exercising far more than I ever thought I would, and I even look forward to my 6:15 am workout class. Still, not everything has been positive.
- Not everyone is supportive. I have relatives who told me that I would be ugly if I lost any more weight, or that my current clothing sizes are "smaller than anyone ought to wear." The person who said that last part insists on buying me clothes that are far too large because she refuses to believe me when I tell her what size I wear, which turns a gift into a really disrespectful message. She also continually tells me that certain foods or things eaten over the holidays "don't count," even though I've tried explaining that she should eat as she chooses but I am not interested in thinking that way about my own nutrition.
- Everything I wear has to be replaced or resized, including things I didn't really think much about, like glasses and rings. I've lost enough fat in my face that my glasses are too wide. It's expensive, and it's often harder to find my new sizes than it was to find my old sizes. Bras are now ridiculously hard to shop for. The only things that still fit are socks and shoes, unfortunately, because I was really hoping my wide feet would get smaller. (The guy at my local running store assured me it does not work like that.)
- Even though I'm going into maintenance soon, I will never be able to eat as much as I once did. I know I can't just stop being mindful of what I eat, because I don't want to gain it all back, and that idea is a little daunting. It is really a new lifestyle, not just something I did for a few years.
- I have far more tolerance for hot weather, and far less tolerance for cold. I get cold much more easily now, but I can handle heat that used to make me feel sick if I was outside for too long. I guess that's what happens when you have a lot less insulation than you used to.25 -
Nobody told me that I'd have to wear undershirts like we did in elementary school just for an extra layer to keep warm!21

The size of clothes in the dresser gets me, too! I'm now super content with the space in my dresser... Which was part of a nursery set!4 -

How wearing clothes you have memories/photos of feeling big in can make you feel like you are that size again although rationally you know it's not true12

You also need less space for your clothes in the suitcase...
Or alternatively... more space for other stuff (like 1/4 of my suitcase was green tea kit kats on the way home from Japan this time. Last time I only had room for maybe 1 packet...)10
