What nobody tells you about losing weight

Instead of worrying about getting too much of something... sugar, carbs, sodium... you have to worry about getting too little... got dehydrated and ran low on electrolytes this weekend - not an experience I want to repeat. Now checking sodium levels to make sure I have enough... never imagined I'd be doing that!

How far a towel will wrap around your body.
How different it feels to cross your legs.25 -
That I can't sleep on my stomach anymore. The lack of a belly means no support for my lower back, when means back pain when I lay prone. Wakes me up every so often now....12

Awesome! I attend an aquatics center,so there are people that walk from the shower to their area (behind a cloth screen to put on (or take off) clothes. To me, they are my goal weight, but here I am walking around nude from point A to B. I am more comfortable in my skin than they are, and its plain sad. For me its mostly a great way to completely dry off, (after actually drying off with a towel) and yep when there aren't people in there, I do check my naked self out in the mirror to reaffirm what I look like, to what my brain is looking at. To be in sync.
I'm curious as to why you find this sad? I'm comfortable in my own skin, and I'm pretty sure I'll never walk naked through a change room no matter my weight. We're all comfortable with different things, and I don't believe it makes anyone 'sad'. All part of You Do You.
^^^ very much agree with the post above.
@Angelfire365 Thank you for taking a moment to post that, I appreciate you sharing another point of view on the situation.
I love reading this thread... I've gotten behind, looking forward to catching up and sharing!5 -

Being in "the in between" - or as I like to call it, wardrobe purgatory - is pretty inconvenient and it's something that never once crossed my mind when I started this process. Like, what am I supposed to do with my still fairly new, rather spendy leather belt? Poke a new hole in it? Pretty sure I don't want to do that...

These are great for this - no holes, no 'in-between' size issues

I share my body with who I choose to. it has nothing g to do with comfort. I don't walk around a change room naked.period. I'm actually quite happy not sad at all9 -
How strangely embarrassing it is when people (almost exclusively women) notice and congratulate me on my weight loss--not at all unpleasant, just awkward and I am not sure what the protocol is. It may seem paradoxical, but I almost wish I could loose weight privately (like giving up alcohol or cigarettes). I think had I almost assumed no one would notice. Isn't it strange how attached you can be to the persona you have lived with for so long?30

I've been losing so slowly that really only my close friends and family have noticed and commented on my loss. I think for everyone else it's taking so long to lose the weight that they've forgotten how big I was to begin with and I'm fine with that. I'm not a very social person anyway and I don't think I could handle a lot of attention about my weight.12 -
Started my journey at 340 now I'm at 202
Seeing my hip bone
Trying to find a 34 D bra
Loose and hanging skin ( already had brachioplasty on my arms, because I couldn't find tops that fit my chest that would fit my arms and vise versa)
Love this thread, thanks for sharing everyone, and agree with a lot of the post24 -
I didn't have much to lose, but even the small amount I have so far (and another 10 lbs to go) has made a change:
- feeling your ribs and your hips (especially when you stand up!)
- flatter stomach (I've had an issue my ENTIRE LIFE with a little "paunch" - even when I weighed around 120 lbs in my early 20's - and now, with my new diet, it's finally GOING AWAY!)
- looser clothing
- shoes are all too big!
- so much more energy
- agreed about the morning breath, oh my word.
- better libido (happy husband)
- fewer headaches
- struggling to eat enough, as I get full so quickly now!
- my jeans (and other pants) are starting to need a belt to keep them up, whereas before I had a belt to keep them from slipping under my fat tummy.
- no more friction burns/rashes between my thighs after a long walk with my dogs.12 -
How surprised people are when they ask you for your diet, when all you did was eat less.23

I am still taken aback when strangers or store clerks make more eye contact and smile or even flirt. I am so used to people ignoring me when I was heavy...it is weird the change.
People at work that tell me to stop losing weight. I still have 27lbs to go.
The people around you that start making healthy changes because they see your progress.28 -

I'm in this stage right now... goodwill has been my best friend! Clothes are inexpensive and when I'm done I can donate them back. I'm in between a 16 and 14 right now... so i bought a pair of 14 jeans and they are hanging on the front of my treadmill to remind me exactly why I'm running lol... I want to be in those 14's comfortably by the middle of next month.17 -

I hear you on this!! It's indescribable how that feels... yes it does feel like at some point you become invisible. Then it's quite shocking to realize ppl are suddenly seeing you when you've been there the entire time. You're taken back a bit to realize you are no longer invisible. But of course there's the time before you hit that invisible point where ppl definitely see you and make unkind remarks and insults that aren't necessary.
Not sure which is worse... I guess I felt more comfortable in the invisible zone at the time.
So glad to see someone post this, never seen this on the boards before... I know it's probably happened to many but to see you post makes me feel like I wasn't alone.8 -
I am no longer invisible. Such a shame that obese people are treated different but I know I was treated much differently after a weight loss.15

Clothes r loose, having to buy new clothes.2

That people will ask you time and again..are you sure you need to lose more weight...even 50lbs over weight.11
-
that shaving legs takes less time! partly surface area reduced and also the fact that bending and rotating legs is much easier when you don't need to take breathers!16

How frustrated you get when you get winded just going up a rather long and steep staircase, not because you are THAT out of shape anymore but rather because you are congested and barely can breathe anyways. I had to keep reminding myself my being winded was due to the congestion and not due to lugging around 40+ more pounds.12
