Beautiful Behaviors - January 2017

Good morning! I read yesterday, but stayed quiet. Another rough day. I ended up binging at night and did not go to class. So I have to go to class next week and from here on out, no excuses.
Yay Lea!! I am sure he appreciated that more than you'll ever know. Although I do not have Autism, I have experience with children with Autism and that is a big step for you as well. Proud of you! Keep baby stepping, you're working every day to make things easier and better for you!
@dlm4mom -- I have tried that, I do not always do it though, because of it taking up some extra time. But I should use the extra time in the morning (I tend to wake up earlier when I go to sleep earlier) and I don't always do that either! I guess that is why there is balance. I need to work on the balance!
So I weighed myself and I am up 1.5lbs in a month. Completely my fault. Just eating in general... not a specific area. I have had chaos in my personal life and at work. Although I have been pacticing alternative ways to combat going to food for comfort, it is still a work in progress. I am completely embarrassed and feel like the only thing I am good at is failing, right now.
With that said, today is a new day. I woke up early to make a breakfast/lunch to bring to work and then have soup for dinner. This is leaving me with 390 calories left. So they will stay "left".
Beautiful behaviors:
-Be thankful that I have a job(s) to come to and income to live (even though i'm looking for a better fit)
-Give myself some more credit (a daily struggle!)
-Be a positive example for someone else who may be having a hard time (smiling, giving encouragement, etc)
SMART Goals:
-Leave the 390 calories intact
-Drink 100oz water
-Move when able! (I'm working both jobs, so i'll be sitting 11 hrs total. Yippee)
Thanks for letting me vent. I hope you all have a successful Thursday!4 -
Lea, your posts are always inspirational to me! Thank you for sharing. I too struggle with both mental and physical illnesses, and have considered disability. if you don't mind me asking, how long did it take for the whole process from initial request to receiving your notice?0
-
@lulalacroix, is the 30 day yoga challenge you are participating in on MFP, or elsewhere? I'm interested...0
-
@jessiquoi - about 7-8 months total. I organized every piece of paper I could, every embarrassing detail, and submitted it. They requested additional info, which I supplied.1

hi, all! just getting a chance now to sit down and think. if every day was like today, I would be thinner in no time. I'm busy at work, and I always eat the same thing while I'm at the office, always track, walk more and drink more. unfortunately, I couldn't handle mentally if every day was the same, so I'm glad my job is what it is.
currently I work from home Monday and Wednesday, in the office Tuesday and Thursday, and am off every Friday. I work four 10-hr days, which exhausts me, and it's all worthwhile to have a 3 day weekend every week. I work very very hard on the days I'm in the office, not so much on the other days. it's a good balance for me mentally, but I do choose to eat too much or make bad choices on the days I am home, so sometimes I wonder if I would be better off working more days in the office. I REALLY don't want to! I prefer to get better at managing my time at home. work in progress.
what's your daily schedule like? how does it affect your staying on program? what changes would you like to make?
later,
jess2 -
Libby, I want you to get off of that "failure" mentality! You don't know how much you may have gained if you weren't doing the things that you're doing, and you'll never know, so don't stop! Have you thought about aiming for a smaller success, to get you on the right path mentally? For example, aiming simply at having a good breakfast and tracking it every day for one week... or lunch, or dinner, whichever meal gives you the most trouble. Sometimes I find when I break down my goals into tinier chunks, I get more traction on them and success follows. Maybe it would work for you too, instead of looking at "everything" all at once.2

Hello there! I am happy to report that I lost half a pound this last week! I know it's not much but I had an extremely hard time staying under my calories last week, as I'm jumping back in to the weight loss thing while nursing and it's hard to figure out where my calories should be.
My daily schedule is always busy. I'm up at 6am, and have to get the kids and myself out the door by 7. At work by 7:45, and then I leave there and head for home around 4. Get home around 5 if it's not activity night, otherwise its the kids activities (and my gym time from 5-7ish), then home to get them to bed, and hopefully squeeze their homework in. My schedule doesn't help me stay on track at all. I'm a newly single mom, and I used to talk to my husband and get things organized on the way home, but now (more nights than I care to admit) it turns into snack time. Then it's run, run, run, and a lot of nights the kids and I end up grabbing dinner rather than going home and cooking. I need to start making better use of my slowcooker I think. Or, doing more pre-cooking on the weekend.
@MehTaken I am in the same club as you. I was down to my lowest weight since high school when I had two miscarriages and then I gained it all back.
@PuzzlePea I've learned I need to take things a day at a time too. Otherwise I get too caught up in what mistakes I 've made, which inevitably leads to me making bigger mistakes. The day by day helps me to regroup faster than I would have in the past.5 -
Good afternoon!
This looks like a great thread to participate in. Self care is huge for me right now.
I am the stereotypical full time working mom of a 12 year old. I am a teacher. Everyone comes before me. I'm my own worst enemy - carving no time out for myself to do anything leisurely, helpful, or positive for myself. My needs have not been a thought in my own head in years!!!!
What do you get from that? You wake up 45 years old, with 15ish extra pounds, and you look like you were run over by a truck. You need a new wardrobe, a decent lipstick, underwear that don't have holes in them, and anxiety medication.
This year, 2017, I will be 46. One thing is for sure: time will just keep going by, whether I am being good to myself or not.
I've had it.
So - I've been practicing self care. My family is totally on board - pitching in, making sure I get to bed at a decent hour, with some time for myself. I've started MFP again, got some new makeup with my Christmas gift cards, as well as some new workout pants. Joined a gym for the first time in years - and only trying to get there three times per week consistently. (No more "all or nothing!" mentality)
I quit Facebook - a waste of time and sooo annoying. That's been the best change for me by far. I used to use it to unwind - it stole my focus from me and aggravated me more than anything. I think it gave me brain fog.
I'm finding new hobbies and reaching out to friends more to get together.
So I am right on with your motivation!
Self Care in 2017!!!!!
Talk soon,
Kim6 -
Hi!
Feeling good. lost 2lbs. although NOW MVP has taken away 30 daily calories from me. Have no idea why.4 -

No actually it's just a personal challenge. I realized that I just really like how I feel afterwards and wanted to challenge myself to do something new and different for a month. So far I feel like my breathing is improving and I am more in tune with my body. I'm really liking it.
And actually yesterday was so busy for me. I didn't get a chance to do the yoga until midnight. So I did a yoga for bedtime and it really felt awesome and relaxing.3 -
Welcome, Kim!1

Did you drop off from a weight? (20's to 10's for example)0 -
Jess -- I am out of my moment of funk! I am ending the week on a good note! Dinner seems to be my trouble, so I am going to start tracking it better!! I am not a snack person, but I should get into a better routine for that. Maybe I won't be so "hungry" by the time I want to eat dinner -- especially when I eat around 5! I have a long "fast" normally. You'd think i'd be used to it by now, but I still sway!! You are also right -- I needed to see the results so I can change it, because I want to go in the right direction!
I ended up eating hardboiled eggs, which brought my cals down to 150 left. I am in the red for fat, sugar, and sodium (all expected), but would have been in the green had I not eaten all of the eggs! Portioning... I have got to get better at that! I cleaned out some of my cupboards and had thrown away a lot of expired items (the snacks) so I am pretty good with the options... just need to enjoy them! I will be able to make healthier choices as well when I go grocery shopping. Almost all the way on the healthy choices!1 -

Yes. There appears no reason for this blow back on calories. So, just going continue as I am, following my carb cycle diet. See to be doing well for me. Am into week 3 and my body is changing.

Welcome, @KimF0715 !! Your self description made me giggle. Better to wake up at 45 than at 55 with those realizations! Good for you!
Libby, You're doing great. It *is* hard to break out of a mood.
@gatamadriz - maybe skinny people need fewer calories than fat people?
Congrats! @TeachingT !!!
Today was okay. I rested and I ate all day, but somehow managed my calories and exercised for 20 minutes.
Beautiful behaviors for tomorrow:
Mental - Learn a new skill like maybe start making a pair of sandals for summer
Physical - walk 5 blocks, like add a block on by circling a building
Spiritual - Express love toward myself, toward my God, toward one person
Rest - Set aside 8 hours for sleep
Hydration - drink at least 8 cups of water
Calories - prepare the squash and sweet potatoes for easy cooking later
Congrats, @mcglothinm !!!
Wow jess, look what you started!
May all who read here find love and joy

I was in my calorie allotment today- only because all of the talk here about food prep guilted me into making soup for the freezer. THANK YOU. What I learned today was that those little werther hard candies have too many calories.
My days are long too even though my kids are out of the house. I am up at 6:30 and at work by 8:30 then home by 6:30. I am almost always too tired to cook and not having the kids at home makes it so easy to eat junk.
My goals for next week are to be within calorie allotment for at least 4 days and to get more than 5000 steps 4 days I think I can do it. I'm having my book club here for dinner next week so that day will be hard. But fun.4 -

Good morning, everyone! I just completed my food entry from yesterday. That seems to be the habit I've fallen into, tracking after the fact, and I don't like it. I know I do better when I track BEFORE I eat. I think it makes me eat less.
Do you track your food before or after you eat?2 -
Good morning!
Good stuff going on here. First weigh in (always a good one)...shows a loss of 2.5 pounds. Whooo hooooooooo!
Now...how to not put it back. The inlaws are taking the kiddo for the weekend. Two restaurant meals in the plans. Gotta watch the wine. Food won't be too hard to control. I have Celiac Disease (don't think I mentioned that)....so I always have to watch food. I usually err on the side of grilled chicken, a small grilled steak, big old salad, etc.
I usually track before I eat, because I plan out so much and I meal prep. I think it's better too. But any tracking is good tracking.
Everyone have a great day!!!!!!

Happy Friday morning everyone!
I (for the first time in a diet ever) track within a day after I've eaten. I used to track at the end of the week. That's a bad idea by the way. This is all somewhat dependent on electronic devices. My Kindle fire was a low cost device with a lot of stuff that helps.
Since MFP runs a little slow, I put my foods on Alexa shopping list when I'm in a hurry.
"Alexa, put a banana on my list."
"I've added a banana to your shopping list"
I only use the shopping list to record food, so it works out. I could alternately use the to do list, but the shopping list seems to work well.
I'm copying my "beautiful behaviors" goals from my above post, so that I can turn them into a check list in Evernote. Using Evernote for a check list allows me to save and review and assess their value.
No electronics can replace the giggly feeling when someone "likes" my post.
Stay calm and stick to your plan.

Hello ladies,
Please count me in for this awesome exercise in accountability and mutual encouragement. I'm 37 and a newlywed. I was pleased to lose 10 lbs before the wedding using MFP but gained it all back (and then some) on our honeymoon.
Now with an all-time-high BMI of 31 I've joined a free weight loss clinic and 'surprise!' they recommend that I sign up for MFP. ... well I already have MFP and it's a great tool. This is the first time, however, that I've been motivated to reach out in the forums. Thank you all for creating this positive space . The beautiful behavior I will concentrate on today is to continue to track what I eat for the 3rd day running. Have an excellent day, everyone!4 -
Welcome @Mithridites !
Can someone explain to me how to "friend" another person in the MFP environment?
Thank you.

Good Morning! Happy Friday, all.
As much as I would like to say today has been nice, it has not. I have never felt so much bullying in a workplace as I have experienced here. I have stepped up my search in employment and am praying that my future employer will understand the reason why I ended up leaving my current place. No one deserves to work in a toxic environment, ever.
As a result, I did end up getting fast food. After I tried on some clothes that didn't fit (because that'll show the scale, right?). I need some strong prayers!!!
I LOVE THIS GROUPPPPPPP!!!! You guys are so amazing. Thank you for being shoulders to lean on, ears to listen too, etc!

Hello All,
Jessquoi.... Some times I've finished my logging the next day as well but it just shows how determined we are! Now if I can just get my butt off the couch more... and get all the right foods I should be eating.
Woznube7.... Good for you having the courage to not waste another day of this precious life. That truly is courageous
Just got a Bowflex TreadClimber and fired it up today... Only made it for 5min with everything at it's lowest resistance but won't give up.
Blessing everyone!
