All those snacks of carrots and celery, be careful, you are going to gain weight.4

after losing 70 pounds (on a high carb diet mind you) My grampa went on about "this internet girl" who sells this low carb diet plan online i should buy. Like...why? do i not seem to know what im doing?
Coming from a guy who everytime i see him reminds me how FAT i used to be. But yet trying to sell me on wack diet plans...12 -
Someone told me I should eat 6 servings of lettuce a day with nothing on it. Then when u lose weight u can add a little meat. He said his daughter lost 79 pounds. Technically he was telling me to starve myself. Some people. Sigh. Counting calories help me lose weight.13

A friend's sister joined us for lunch one day. She has been obese and "on a diet" as long as I've known her, several years.
When she arrived, she proudly announced that she had given up french fries as part of her diet. Then she ordered onion rings with her burger...45 -
I was just told by a girl I workout with that i should start working out in long sleeves because I'll burn more calories that way.11

Food combining - like don't eat bread after fruit, and other stuff so inane my brain immediately jettisoned it upon processing it.11

If you eat salad with every meal you'll lose weight. Then they had some macaroni salad with dinner.22

This was said to me at a dance class by a stranger, "you have such a pretty face, you shouldn't eat after 6:00."21

That one is true, at least for me.5 -
That our bodies are all toxic and thus hold on to fat unless we jump on a $500+ rebounder every day to flush our lymph nodes.18

Technically, that is probably true since we burn more calories cooling our bodies, but I doubt it is significant enough to be worthwhile.

Meet my 6'1 built-like-a-shotputter husband. It's a perfectly healthy weight for him. But I accept that he's an anomaly.5 -

I've been trying to figure out how eating after six can make someone ugly... I got nuthin'!
I dared to tell someone a couple of months ago that I was counting calories. She said, with great authority, "People who count calories never lose weight!" I told her I'd lost more than 40lbs so far and she shut up.
Hearing that women can't lose weight once they get to menopause/peri-menopause/over 50, and they may as well stop trying.
Almost anything on the front of a checkout-stand magazine. ("Lose 30lbs in a month with these miracle fat-burning foods!!", etc.)
That one about the body having a "set point" weight that it tries to return to sounds dubious to me - is there actually any evidence for this?14 -

When my weight loss started to show I got people asking what I was doing. I told one friend I was working out a lot and eating well. She goes "Oh I'm so disappointed." People don't want to hear it's work and will tell themselves plenty of crap to avoid getting down to it.14 -
A person on the bus the other day: milk will make your calves fat because it's designed to grow calves.
Just when I thought the milk-calf argument couldn't get any sillier.58 -

You have to eat clean to lose weight. LOL.13

Them: You've lost so much weight! You must be in the gym every day.
Me: I've not set foot in a gym, I just walk a lot.
Them: I wish I could do that.
Me: You can, just go for a walk whenever and wherever you happen to be.
Them: I can't do that, I always have to look after my grand-daughter.
Me: What? Your grand-daughter doesn't have legs?
Them: She doesn't like to walk.
Me: Don't you have a buggy for her?
Them: She won't sit in it for long, she gets bored.
Me: ... (gives up)

English is not our first language, so I wouldn't judge the poor reading comprehension, but how anyone would think this argument makes even remote sense is beyond me.0 -
MFP posts seeking advice on the struggles of trying to eat 1200 or 1000 calories. "I feel so full I'm stuffed how can i get my daily calories in?" Just who do they think they're talking to?36

IMHO this is not a myth. Is the naked truth.
