For the first time in my weight loss journey my BMI says NORMAL!!
I celebrated with some home-made kettle chips in the cafeteria at work and promptly broke a piece off a porcelain crown. That will teach me!!33 -
So, after boasting to my hubby about the cat-litter-carrying incident last week, today when we were unloading the groceries he deliberately left the pail of litter and an equally-heavy bag (for the other hand!) because "you want to carry heavy things"...35

Had to buy some new jeans because the old ones were falling off, tried on a size smaller and they were still too big, had to go down 2 sizes. Gotta love the thrift store because I'll be shrinking for a while26

Yes, thrift stores are great. When I gained my most weight, I only bought from them because buying new XXL at a store felt like defeat. My journey is still young but can't wait to drop off my XXL clothes at the thrift store for their next owner.10 -
My first big goal jeans....need a belt to stay up even right of the dryer and makes my butt look saggy. At the start of this I could not pull them up all the way. Not going to lie I'm going to miss those, but I have new goal jeans fitting perfectly and another beautiful pair waiting in the closet for me16

Stairs. Besides commuting I don't go up and down stairs at all ( I live on the first floor) last time I went up stairs I'd pause at floor 3 and take a break. Today I ran up to the 6th floor carrying groceries with a friend without stopping. Maybe it's so minimal but weight loss translating to real life activity feels so awesome25

This is great what sort of training are you doing free weights or machines
Machines at the moment but I want to use free weights as my right side is weaker than my left (go figure, my right is my "dominant" side) plus my core strength is non-existant. Just waiting for a PT session to become available as I haven't a clue where to start with free weights
I'd love to hear what you are doing on machines. I don't have the get-up-and-go yet to attempt free weights, but I am super comfortable using the machines. Glad to hear of a real-world success using them.
@fitoverfortymom
I've not been doing them for long, since mid-December of last year. I do 2 x 12 reps on each machine:
Hip Adductor/Abductor (80/65lbs)
Abdominal Crunch (55lbs)
Diverging Lat Pulldown (50lbs)
Triceps Press (60lbs)
Leg Extension (25lbs)
Arm Curl (22.5lbs)
Converging Chest Press (25lbs)
Lateral Pull (55lbs)
Shoulder Press (10lbs)
Leg Press (65lbs)
Lateral Raise (20lbs)
Pec Fly (20lbs)
Seated Leg Curl (45lbs)
I've not been doing them for long, since mid-December of last year. I increase the weights whenever it seems "easy" to lift that particular weight; if it's a huge effort to move the weights towards the end of the sets then I carry on at that weight for a few more days. Once it eases, I move it up a bit.
I have no idea if what I'm doing is correct but it appears to be working for now, and I figure that something is better than nothing. I want to move into the free weights (once I can fit in a PT session) as one side is weaker than the other and my core is so weak that press-ups/planks are nothing short of laughable.
But I'll get there, given time

Madwife2009 wrote: »1) Asked my husband if he wanted to accompany me on my cycle ride today - he declined on the grounds that I am fitter than he is and he didn't want to hold me back. I even offered to do a shorter, flat ride so he could keep up but he still said no. I wasn't disappointed TBH, and I was really flattered that he's acknowledged my efforts by stating that I am fitter than he is (to put this into context, he NEVER mentions my weight, EVER). We've been together 29 years and he's always been the one who's stronger, faster and has more endurance.
2) Really, really windy today (22mph+ speeds). I stepped outside to get my bike out of the garage, almost got swept off my feet by a gust of wind so went back indoors thinking to abandon my cycle run. My husband grinned at me (in a good way) and said that I wouldn't be going out then . . . so, to prove him wrong I went straight back out and rode off into the distance (albeit much slower than usual as straight into a head wind).
Not sure if that was a good decision or a bad decision as it was pretty unpleasant - the wind was cold and blustery and really bullied me. Nearly came off a few times, such was the strength of it but I still completed ten miles by the time I got home. They were the hardest ten miles I've ever done on my bike. BUT I did them4 -

I've been having a hard time lately and though I've lost close to 24 lbs most days I just can't see it.
Went shopping today and I just knew I'd not lost a dress size or if I had only one. I've gone from a tight size 16 to a loose size 12 and down from a 1X to a L.
I could've cried.39 -
Bought a pair of jeans today in my goal size 3/4, to help motivate me to get rid of the last 11lbs in my diet/exercise journey. (22 down so far) Started November in a size 12.
Came home to try them on to see how far I had to go. And they buttoned without me having to suck in! Haven't worn this size since before getting pregnant with my youngest daughter. She turns 22 tomorrow. This doesn't mean the strength training or the better eating habits stop, But it does mean that I can actually indulge a little bit tomorrow at the party we are going to.39 -

My husband told me he wouldn't like to try cross country skiing with me because I'm more fit than him. Last time he made a comment like that was when we rented bikes at the beach while dating 12 years ago. He then recommended joining a hike and ski club. Who? Me? I thought I was the lazy wife who did nothing but sat around watching Netflix. I'm having a hard time remembering the last time he told me that. My NSV's are giving me an identity crisis, but I think it's a good thing.27

shoutout to qa for keeping the devs on their toes \o/
#isqaanalyst.
i walked four or five miles home from my barbell club, four-yorkshiremen style. no bleeding knees but it was post-deadlifts, so that kind of counts. and we had the uphill all ways and the snow, oh yes indeed yes, we did have the snow.
why i had to walk, actually. i knew when i left home in the morning that i was likely to get there but coming home might be a thing. left my car behind on purpose because i couldn't have driven it far anyway. and from the looks of the weather report i had a feeling the buses were not going to be running by the time we broke up. so i did deadlifts and presses and then sure enough, i walked home.
the distance itself wasn't that big a deal, but it was horrible snow. idek if normal snow is like this, because mostly it just rains on us. but it was dry enough to make that squidge noise, yet instantly skiddy as soon as it packed itself down underfoot. so i'm counting it as a victory because it was really unstable ground the whole way and i was just wearing my regular hiker/runners. i was carrying 20-some pounds in my backpack as well, so it feels like a nice - genuinely 'functional' - test of various things. i would have got home anyway because it's not like there were alternatives, but the thing is, four or five years ago i think i would have pulled a few muscles along my spine and neck on the way.
and then once i got home i dumped the groceries and borrowed the corner neighbour's snow shovel. don't have one so i started out on her sidewalk and steps too as a payback courtesy, and ended up pretty much clearing the block. my neighbours on the other side of me are growing older, so i did them . . . and then there's a couple further down that i saw helping each other to manage their stairs in our last big snow thing, so i did them . . . and there's a vacant lot that becomes horrible . . . i feel like the village busybody, but honestly, it's kind of hard to stop when you get started with snow.30 -

Buy yourself some yaktracks or other type of grippers for your shoes (my letter carrier wears yaktracks and I figure she's probably an expert on the subject). I have an older pair of hikers and I just leave them on all winter. That way I can confidently stride out when I'm walking the dog after a thaw and freeze. There's nothing worse than walking on ice and worrying that you're going land on your *kitten*!4 -
I ran the gridiron 4 miler in central park today. It was a bit cold but there were more than 5000 other runners (crazy people) entered. I didn't even finish last!25
