I thought this too (86 pounds down) when i first lost the weight but it seems as though my face is sorting itself out now. Things are shifting around and I don't look gaunt anymore. Maybe it just takes time for our bodies to adapt to the new weight?
I "third" this statement! My BMI is in the middle range for normal... Ive lost 55 lbs total. I Definitely looked older and haggard initially!! I was thinking that I'd gain some weight (maybe to the higher end of normal) back so I could retrieve my girlish looks (lol), but thankfully my face DID sort itself out! .... I was WORRIED... I mean I am 39, but I didn't have Any wrinkles before weight loss and then suddenly I had brow furrows and sharp parenthesis by my mouth. Thank God it softened back up and I didn't have to regain any of the pounds... furrows are slight and parenthesis are gone.., I can't say for fact that this made the difference, but I increased my water intake and face moisturizing.... I'll continue to do that as those were the only changes that I made and saw results,19 -

This!! ^ I was just talking about this with my aunt! Ever since I started eating healthier and exercising, my mom has quit smoking and started walking with me, my brother comes on walks with me, and my best friend started a gym membership and has goals to get in shape and told me that I am her inspiration! We even started doing Couch to 5K together! I would say one of the best "side effects" besides losing the weight and being healthier is the impact you have on others. What. An. Honor.40 -
That you get a lot less judgy about people that opt for plastic surgery.

Dude... I'm totally on board. One of the things that's keeping me going is knowing I'll be able to get skin removal surgery afterwards.10 -

Ditto! I can't tell you how gross my body looks naked, right now! A slim silhouette is swell - but DANG, I am going to have to clean this "stuff" up before I feel comfortable wearing short sleeves - or God Forbid - shorts!10 -
It can take awhile to adjust. Logically, I know I'm thinner, but I still see the old me in the mirror.14

Same! And I've always hated my boobs so what better time than with a TT?5 -
The confidence I never knew I had! I find myself speaking up on my opinions more, and meeting more people just in friendly conversations!
Also I find I now believe I can achieve anything!29 -

Damn straight. I hate the idea of wearing a swimsuit without board shorts now because of my saggy *kitten*. I never wore board shorts before to cover up my huge pear-shaped butt. The bingo wings I can deal with later; I need my sleeveless tops to get through an Aussie Summer.8 -
No one told me I would have to start wearing smaller underwear...the leg holes are now too big and too often...the train leaves the station without authorization...

I am so pleased to hear this, it means that there is hope for me yet. I've lost quite a bit of weight with more to lose so it's been a slight worry (although I'd rather be a healthy weight compared to how I was). I've been feeling a bit weird about my face as it does look more lined, gaunt and so much older than it used to; I'd see all of these posts about people looking younger having lost weight and think "If only!".17 -
No one told me my brain would be a sick *kitten* who enjoys tricking me.
Went shopping over lunch today and saw a pretty dress I liked. Nothing fancy. A marine blue dress with a V-neckline. It's the type that can be made to look hot or business casual depending on how you accessorize it. A bit of a chameleon dress if you want. So, brain goes: here... that's the right size for you. Mind you I know the sizing at that store pretty well as it's one of my regulars. Clothes are cheap and the quality decent enough for clothes that won't fit me in 6 months. I shopped there at BMI 40 and I haven't hit the XS range yet. Another 3-4 clothing sizes to go and the changes between sizes are amazingly predictable.
I go into the dressing room, slip on the dress and actually burst out laughing. I had taken the size I used to be at (EU48, approx US18) instead of the size I really need (EU42, approx US12). The shop assistant had a good giggle too when I stepped out trying to hold the plunging V-neckline together to avoid having my boobs spill out. Nice girl brought me the right size and it fits like a glove.
I still can't get over how TINY that dress looks compared to what I needed before. My brain can't seem to catch up to that, no matter how many times I hold a picture up for it to see.41 -
I have a pair of large pj's I got for christmas. i smile everytime I fold those sucker because it has been a decade since I wore anything without x's infront25

How much your mind will continue to trick you through the process!4 -

Ive actually gone the other way - since hitting the gym my thighs have gotten bigger, and now I find I need pants with bigger leg holes or else I feel like the circulation to my feet is cut off...7 -

Same! Pants used to be too baggy in the legs and too tight at the waist, now it's the opposite. Pants will fit loosely around the waist, yet too tight around my legs/glutes.

that my knees would stick out so much, and actually aren't 'straight'. Kinda freaked the other night about how my knee bone seems to be further to the side than it used to be (not explaining perfectly), but was reassured by physiotherapist in training that my knees are fine lol
they also stick out waaay more from my shins!10 -
I love this whole thread and I feel it all! I've lost 53 and have like 70 to go but all of the sudden I have bones18

I poke myself silly every time I discover a new bone (bruised collarbones for the win )
In order of apparition (as in... "found the silly little buggers!"):
- collarbones
- hipbones
- cheekbones
- ribs
- vertebrae (discovered those the other day when I was leaning against the wall in the break room. Bloody uncomfortable!)
Any other bones I need to be aware of? Although it's fun randomly discovering bones, it does tend to come at pretty annoying moments...15
